Evander “E’nd” Lloyd
Prefers to be called Evander. Only Tack is allowed to call him E'nd
"Quod Erat Demonstrandum"
Pronunciation: uh-VAN-der loid; undPrefers to be called Evander. Only Tack is allowed to call him E'nd
"Quod Erat Demonstrandum"
Age: 25 years (Born January 29th, 1987)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual. He will probably sway one way or another depending on future Flights, but not really caring at this point.
Appearance: Evander stands at an average height of five feet and nine inches. He tends to have a medium to stocky build, easily giving him an imposing look if he dresses up and acts the part. However, his height doesn't have much to say to that. His limbs are of a normal length, rounding out his initial appearance nicely. He doesn't work out or anything of the sort, being kept fit by his job with New Scotland Yard. Even with that, he spends crazy amounts of time on the computer, so it's typical of him to be a tad flabby when not working diligently. This isn't to say that he can't exert his own strength when needed, for he's had to multiple times for the line of duty, as well as the various sci-fi and fantasy conventions that he's attended.
His choice in clothing likes to give people the wrong impression. Evander prefers to dress smart, wearing leather jackets with button-up shirts of his choice. Not one for bright and vibrant colors, he prefers neutral shades, and occasionally the more earthy tones such as brown and dull green. The majority of his wardrobe is made up of brown leather jackets, white shirts, and black dress pants. Because he does care about first impressions, Evander's clothes are always in pristine condition; ironed to the point of perfection and put away with careful abandon. Rarely will one find a crease or a wrinkle on anything but his jackets. As for shoes, Evander will wear anything that's comfortable, and fits in with his formal attire.
With skin tones that range towards the paler side, Evander tends to tan easily, and often ends up with sunburns. His hair is a dirty blond, and is, like his clothing, kept neat. Opting to keep it combed in a loose fashion, the back of Evander's hair reaches just past his earlobes, with only an inkling of sideburns running down in front of his ears. He has rounded features on his face, and a head that is rather spherical. Evander's nose is large and rotund, sitting somewhat squashed on the front of his face. His eyes are rough almond shapes, with his irises being a pale graying hazel color. His mouth is thin, often blending in with the rest of his face. When he’s in the mood to impress someone, Evander’s expression hardly changes, staying the same ‘eh, done it before’ look that he usually has.
By far, the thing that stands out the most about him is his accent, a heavy Scottish one that he barely tries to hide (on account of him not imitating an American one all that well). Growing up in Scotland, with a Scottish mother, it’s no surprise that’s the accent that he picked up. Since moving to England, to live with his father, Evander has adopted a fair English accent as well, as a side-effect of living with his father.
Picture:
Personality: Likes to be right; uses technical jargon (which is, more often than not, made up) when he wants to impress others; outgoing; friendly; enjoys sci-fi (so the prospect of Pern was intriguing); 'pure'--he is a virgin despite dirty jokes and his sexual orientation;
Play-by: Bryan Dick as D.C. Blythe (Blackpool); above picture is not from Blackpool, just a better picture of his whole body.
History: To start with his parents, Evander’s mother, the beautiful Scottish Amy Morrison, married the dashing and handsome English Kamron Lloyd. The two were good friends for years before, meeting when Kamron traveled to Scotland on vacation with his family. They wrote each other for a number of years, though they were miles apart. Moving out, and away from home, Kamron moved to Scotland, near Amy, where the two continued to meet up. They were married in the year 1985, having known each other for nearly fourteen years. Two years later, Evander was born. There was small disagreement over a name. Amy wanted Iomhar, while Kamron preferred Ewan. Combining the two, the young couple settled on Evander Lloyd for their first child.
He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, around eleven p.m. On January 29th. The weather was bad, a harsh wind blowing in snow and hail in a miniature blizzard. Despite the foreboding weather, Evander was a healthy baby, and after the usual check-ups, was able to go home with his parents when the roads cleared up. Since then his early life was as normal as they come. The young Evander picked up a Scottish accent from his mother, who was a writer, and thus was at home the most. His father was often away, working long hours on the police force, his favorite line of work.
As the years passed, Evander’s parents started to drift. The divide wasn’t one of great tension, but more like friends seeing less and less of each other until one forgets the existence of the other. As a child, Evander wasn’t too sure on what was going on. He only saw his father sparingly now, grateful if he managed to see him more than once a week. Evander wasn’t one to pry though, and he kept his personal life out of his social life at school and when at play. His head was often in the clouds, and heading out into deep space--a huge sci-fi fan at an early age, Evander would stay up late on school nights just to watch his favorite shows. It was these science fiction worlds that kept him sane as his father left the family.
Officially, Evander’s parents divorced when the young Evander was eleven years old. A teary-eyed farewell was the last thing he saw of his father, as well as a written promise to ‘travel the stars’ tucked away in his pocket. Now a single mother, having to support her only son, Amy was working nearly non-stop to write her books and get them published. While her job did bring in money occasionally, the small family had to rely on Evander’s job at a local video rental shop, where he made little money at the age of sixteen. The better part about working at a video rental shop was that Evander got to meet many people, especially those that shared his interest in science fiction. From the older employees and customers, Evander learned of sci-fi conventions, specifically those held in the states. He enjoyed his work, and attempted to work longer hours, not only for the extra time to spend around people he liked, but also for the extra money it would bring in.
Unfortunately, two years later, at the age of eighteen, Evander’s mother passed away from cancer. The cancer was hereditary, from her mother’s side, though thankfully Evander managed to not inherit it. However, if only Amy wasn’t so reclusive in her last years, spent cooped up in her study and working hard on her next novel, then she might have been saved. Amy succumbed to cancer only because she refused to leave the house. Eighteen-year-old Evander wasn’t well off himself--still working at the rental place, he only made enough money to support himself. Desperate, he called his father, whom he and his mother had kept in touch with for all those years, and asked for help. Eager to help his only son, for he had not entered another relationship since the divorce, Kamron suggested that Evander move to London to live with him.
Not one to object, and still clinging to the written promise on faded and torn paper, Evander agreed, packed his belongings, and with some money sent over by his father, flew to London from Glasgow, Scotland. Sticking out with his accent, Evander picked up a British accent from his father and his father’s peers. A bad one, but still an accent. In need of a new job, Evander joined Scotland Yard as a part-time civil enforcement officer. However, he became interested in sci-fi conventions.
Obtaining a passport when he was nineteen, Evander made plans to travel to the states and attend various conventions he heard about. He saved up money for months, finally spending it on travel plans such as plane tickets, hotel reservations, and convention registration, leaving no money for himself to spend on personal possessions. Evander was limited to conventions on the East Coast, and attended a few well-known ones such as Dragoncon and Balticon. There, his Scottish accent made him stick out, though he did attract the attention of desperate ladies. He worked on an American accent, but it never turned out well for him. For the next couple of years of his life, Evander would attend conventions in various locations at least a couple times a year, always stuck with no pocket money afterwards, having spent most of it on travel arrangements.
When not caught up in convention life, Evander is at home, with his beloved computer. Of course, being a laptop, he rarely leaves it behind in the first place. His science fiction roots spurred an interest in computers, but he was unable to buy one for himself until he moved in with his father. Accomplishing that, Evander is a skilled computer wiz. He is able to navigate through a computer using only the keyboard, if necessary, and does so in the event that he doesn’t have a mouse--which has happened once when a rude guest stole his computer mouse. He often helps the neighbors with computer troubles, and used to run an online forum before he shut it down from lack of activity. One of the most notable times when he used his computer knowledge to help someone was when a virus struck down the computers of Scotland Yard--Evander was quick to track down the virus and trace it back to the sender, a man on the inside.
His access to the internet and love of science fiction is what got Evander interested in Pern in the first place. The storm that exposed the intriguing weyr sparked his interest in the place. Evander watched many documentaries and news reports on the location, some of which were awful, and didn’t provide him with good enough information. Like any good conspiracy theorist though, Evander didn’t stop there. He dove further, using his computer to lurk around back-end websites and half-baked blogs.
To get to Rocky, Evander had to save up for a number of months. He wasn’t just taking a trip over on a whim though--he had been emailing a U.S. Official in league with the weyr, Ammon Fredricks, for a number of weeks, and was asked to Stand for a hatching, not only to get more candidates for the hatching, but also to build and strengthen a friendship between the UK and Rocky Weyr. Not one to turn down the interesting offer, Evander jumped on that in a matter of seconds, saving up to be ables to travel to the states one last time, leaving his home country behind.
tl;dr, Evander is Scottish/British. His parents divorced at eleven years, and his mother died at 18 years. He moved to live with his father in London. He is a huge sci-fi geek who loves to go to conventions, and has been to the states a number of times. He's been emailing Ammon, and recruited as a candidate, due to the need for candidates for the upcoming hatchings and strengthen the friendship between the UK and Rocky.
