IC Date: Week of March 4th, 2012 IC Time: Noon [/u][/center] Mentari followed Ladeth from the hatching grounds to the feeding grounds. The green has demanded that she need to feed, and Surth had agreed to watch the precious eggs as Ladeth did so. Mentari couldn't help the smile that was on her face. While Ladeth looked to be herself again, Mentari had practically blowne up in her pregnancy. While she was only three months along, about, she looked to be around six or seven months along. And her nausea had gotten worse with the bigger she got. Mentari looked around, wondering if Tad and Kimath would show up. She knew that Ladeth had called Kimath before, to let him know that Surth was watching the precious eggs while she ate. But Mentari wondered if Tad would accompany the blue. Why wouldn't he? Ladeth said from where she had downed a cow. Mentari shrugged. "I'm not sure." She answered.

Not far away and not long after Mentari responded to her dragon, Kimath too descended to the grounds. He would have stayed with the eggs, of course, had Surth not volunteered to do so. The white could be trusted.
He stopped by the fence to put Tad down next to his weyrmate, before rising again to circle. Not that the blue intended to spend long selecting his meal.
Tad stepped over to Mentari and slid an arm around her, then glanced at her swollen belly. She should not be so big for this early and a thought at once horrible and exciting came to him. "Mentari," he voiced, quietly. "Have you got an ultrasound yet?"
Because he could think of only one reason why she would look so pregnant so quickly...one that an ultrasound could confirm or deny for them.

Mentari laughed and shook her head. "Not yet. I have on scheduled soon though. I wanted to wait until I'm far enough along to see the gender too." She explained. Her eyes practically sparked with her excitement.
Ladeth moved onto another animal. This time it seemed to be a small goat. She downed it, breaking the neck, before she looked up at the skies where Kimath was circling. With a soft bugle, she greeted the blue. Then she turned back to her meal, even as she contacted Surth to ask about the eggs.
Mentari shook her head after a short glance at Ladeth. "Stop worrying! You know Surth will take care of them!" She called to the green.

Tad nodded. "We'll have to start thinking about names, too. Or do you want to wait until you know the sex so we don't think of ones we don't need?"
Great. She was...but he didn't want to rush her to the infirmary with worries that might mean nothing. If it was anything to actually worry about.
Kimath snagged a young cow, bringing it down and tearing into the flesh with draconic relish. Any dragonrider who started out squeamish would no doubt cease to be so after watching their lifemate feed a few times. Tad liked his steaks bloody, but not like that.
"OF course she's going to worry. Mothers are supposed to worry about babies." Even if Ladeth's responsibility to her eggs ended the moment they hatched.

Mentari smiled, hip bumping Tad when he seemed to grow worried. "Don't worry about me. I'm feeling fine. If I wasn't, you would be the third one to know. After myself and Ladeth, of course." She laughed a little at her own joke.
Names. Mentari hadn't even started thinking of names yet. But she smiled. "Yes, let's talk about names. I'm ashamed to say I haven't even started thinking about them."
Mentari had to laugh again. "True to that. But she was the one who called Surth to keep an eye on them. She's eating so fast, from worrying, that she might choke..." Mentari said, a little worried.
I'm not a hatchling anymore... Ladeth said to MentariHers.

Kimath lifted his head to fix whirling eyes on his mate. It was clear he agreed about bolting food, although for right now, the blue didn't say anything. Just looked at Ladeth.
"Hrm. It might be easier to wait until we have gender, though." Unless he was right, and it ended up being harder. "I dunno. Maybe the Pernese tradition of blending names is fun, but then we might end up with Tatari, which sounds like an Eastern European dish."
Maybe one made out of potatoes...

Mentari laughed. "Tatari? It sounds like a japanese dish, if you ask me."
She grew silent for a moment, thinking about names for babies. If she had a boy, she was thinking Scott, after her father. Or maybe Devon... "What about Scott or Devon for a boy?" She asked, looking up at Tad.
Girl names were harder. There was so much more variety for girls. And when having a girl, she wanted to find a name that sounded pretty, and had a nice meaning to it. Which was even harder to do...
Ladeth finished the goat, stepping back from the center of the feeding pen. She linked her mouth, getting what little blood had accumilated there. Then she moved to cleaning off her claws, ignoring everything except her task of cleaning.

"I like Scott. Devon sounds a little...ambiguous gender to me. I knew a girl called that once." Tad was not the type to want ambiguous names.
"How about...Eleanor for a girl?" He'd always liked the name Eleanor...it was pretty, although he was well aware that Mentari might completely disagree. And as far as he was concerned, she could have the last word on it.
After all, she was the one doing all the work...he had to acknowledge that. Lugging the kid around for nine months plus however long she chose to nurse it for...yeah. That *was* all the work.

Mentari frowned a little. She, too, had known a girl by the name of Devon once. She had forgotten about it, though, since it had been back in first grade. She thought for a few moments, then smiled again. "What about David, for a back-up boy name? And I like Eleanor." She said.
Mentari started thinking about other girl names. Madison was out of the question. It was too common. Keiko had the same problem, although it was pretty. But maybe Tad had a point about combining their names, like the Pernese did. Tari? Did that name even sound right? Mentari didn't know, but she did know it sounded better than Tatari. She giggled a little, thinking about naming their daughter Tatari.
Ladeth fluttered her wings a little, feeling restless. She was contemplating going for a few chickens, while she had the time to eat. But she wasn't sure she should...

"David's good...I like David." A pause. "Scott or Eleanor, then."
Unless...well, they could cross further bridges when they come. "Unless, of course, the kid pops out and something about his or her appearance screams for a different name. My aunt was sure she was going to call my cousin 'Christopher', but she said he just didn't look like a Christopher."
There was no sense setting things in stone. They didn't have to make a final decision until they had to put it on a birth certificate, after all.

Mentari smiled. "Yes. Either Scott or Eleanor." She agreed.
She looked over at Ladeth, sitting there and eyeing some chickens. She frowned, knowing through their link that the green was still hungry. She didn't understand why Ladeth was holding back... Get some more, since you're still hungry. She told Ladeth.
Ladeth looked over with slightly yellow whirling eyes. Mentari nodded her head, and then Ladeth moved off, her eyes now whirling more red but with some blue tints in there. Mentari smiled. She didn't want Ladeth going hungry, even if she was intent to get back to her eggs. She looked back at Tad, a smile on her face.
"Are you really that worried about the baby?" She asked him.

Tad shook his head. "I'm not...well, not really. I'm nervous. It's not like I've ever been a father before. And I worry about all the work we're putting you through."
As Ladeth apparently lost some silent argument with her rider, he glanced at the green. Kimath had finished his first kill and was apparently contemplating a second. It was amazing, really, how little they needed to eat for their size.
Well, they must, he thought, just use food very efficiently. Of course, the amount of time they spent sunning was part of that. Dragons, he had noticed, lazed around a lot. Rather like larger cats in that way. He'd seen lions at the zoo. They never seemed to move...

Mentari's brows furrowed. "What work?" She asked, looking up at Tad.

"Lugging the baby around for nine months isn't work?" Tad grinned at her, cheerfully. It really was a little unfair that women had so much more of the burden...and that most men didn't seem to take it into account.
Well, no. A good man did. He was determined to be a good man and a good husband, even...perhaps especially...under their rather strange circumstances. "Us men get off far too lightly...which just means I'll have to make it up to you. Is it true that there's no chocolate on Pern?" Chocolate...always a good thing to have around. He did wonder how the Pernese managed without it, if that was true.

Mentari laughed. "I don't consider it work, Tad. I like that I'm carrying our child." She said in explanation.
"I'm not sure if there is no chocolate on Pern. There is cocoa. They use it in the klah they drink. But otherwise I'm not sure..." She smiled up at him, thinking how lucky she was to have that man by her side. She cradled her baby bump, thinking about the beautiful baby that waited there. "And make it up to me how?" She asked.

Tad grinned. "These days, it's only fair for dads to do their share of diaper duty." Not that he was remotely looking forward to that. Mucking out after young dragons had been bad enough. Of course, human infants didn't produce nearly as much...
"There is? I heard there was no chocolate. Maybe I was told wrong." He made a face. "Somebody got me to try that klah stuff once. Ugh. It's far, far worse than coffee." And served the same purpose of keeping people awake.

Mentari had to laugh at Tad's mention of diaper duty. That was one thing she, too, was not looking forward to.
Mentari shrugged about the klah and coffee comment. "I don't drink coffee, so I don't know how that tastes. But I did try klah after Faizah told me what was in it. I thought it would taste more like hot chocolate." She stuck her tongue out. "I'm regretful to report it tastes nothing like it."

"Yeah. I suppose if you grow up drinking it, it's probably tastier." He grinned at her. "I'm told most Europeans won't drink root beer, because if you don't acquire the taste when you're young, you never will."
Maybe he should test that theory out with the Pernese. They certainly didn't have sasparilla, surely. Or maybe they did. He wasn't sure what did and did not grow on their other world, which he had not been able to visit.
Perhaps he would one day. On the other hand, he did not want to leave Rocky...and there was no way he was going anywhere without Mentari.

Mentari stuck her tongue out at the mention of root beer. "That stuff is nasty. I don't blame Europeans for not liking it... Lakeen drinks too much of it to begin with." She complained.

"I like it," Tad mock-complained. Not that he guzzled it, but he did tend to drink it when he drank soda, rather than coke or anything.
"Eh. We can't have *everything* in common, right?" He stretched a bit. "Just as long as we have enough to work things out." And he trusted her. He knew things between them would work, and they had the child to tie them together now.
Boy or girl or... He thrust that thought away. It was bothering Mentari that he seemed worried, so he was determined not to be.

((Again I must say, Tad is just too cute.))
Mentari laughed, nodding her head in agreement. "Nope. We can't have everything in common." She listened to the rest of Tad's comment, but didn't say anything. She just leaned against him, putting one arm around his waist. She turned her attention to Ladeth.
The green had moved away from the animals again, this time her eyes whirling more blue than anything. She seemed satisfied, cleaning her claws after having eaten a few chickend and a goose or two.

(( He's like a big puppy ))
"But still...we have something very important in common." He slipped his arm around her, letting her lean as Kimath finished up his own meal, some bits of blood staining the light blue muzzle...some people had mistaken Kimath for a white before, in certain lights, but he was definitely a blue.
There was a clutch on the Sands to prove it. "I suppose that Ladeth is going to want to go back soon, though. She seems to be pretty much done."
He was so used to the raw meat thing by now that he did not even flinch at it.

Mentari nodded in agreement, her free hand rubbing her baby bump. She smiled, again wondering if they were having a boy or girl, and what the baby would look like. It would be an understatement to say she was excited about it.
She nodded again, still watching Ladeth. Ladeth would want to head back to the sands soon, and relieve Surth from the job of egg watching. And Mentari could already tell that Ladeth was done. She was just likely to spend a few moments, cleaning herself from the blood of her kills, before heading back to the eggs.
((Indeed he is. <3))

"I bet Ladeth will be very glad when they hatch," Tad mused. It had to be tiring to have to watch them almost constantly, and while Kimath did his best to help, Kimath was Kimath.
"I'm glad Surth's willing to help. He's a fine dragon." He might be an unusual one...a huge white...but he certainly seemed to have a great personality. Of course, Tad understood why he had been exiled to Earth. Supposedly, he was a little...fragile.

Mentari smiled. "I think she will be too. And even if she isn't, I will be. You have no idea how hot it gets in there during the day. And I'm not even directly on the sands..." She said.
Many a times Mentari's mood had been soured by the uncomfortable heat in the hatching sands, even though she was off the sands. But she didn't want to think about that at the moment. She just wanted to enjoy having Tad's company.
