Midnight Hunger (Akira/Trinity)

Kain shuffled into the Main Hall. He had been sleeping soundly when Hobbs had scrabbled over the tired bronze rider. The blue began to trill for food, projecting to Kain his hunger. Kain had had no choice but go to the hall and feed the blighter. He decided he would get himself something to eat as well.

Upon entering the Main Hall the blue zipped over to the fridge. Kain opened it and the blue grabbed a large, raw steak on a plate. Perhaps someone knew the blue would be hungry tonight and had set aside the steak. Most likely Faizah. That woman knew almost everything that happened in the Weyr.

Kain reached in and grabbed an orange soda, then went over to the cupboards for something to eat. He settled for a bag of doritos chips and sat, pensively munching the chips and sipping the soda.

Absently, Trinity wondered if Kain had ever even seen her as he'd walked past. She w2as standing by the counter, a large butcher knife in hand, looking positively morbid with blood spattering her sleeves and a messily chopped up bowl of steak in front of her. She'd been considering stealing the one remaining steak in there, as Trinsk was being particularly fussy that evening and refusing to eat unless Trinity cut his meat for him and fed it to him by hand. He didn't like the dragons that were occupying the feeding grounds, and he'd thrown a fit when she'd tried to force him...

So, at the moment, Trinity was just smiling, smirking, and waiting for Kain to notice that she'd managed to sneak the almost full-grown blue wher into the kitchens, and that Trinsk was currently under one of the long tables in the hall, his tail sticking out at one end, his nose the other as he snuffled around. Trinsk like chips, thanks to his introduction to the salty snacks earlier, and very slowly his head slipped out from under the low table, watching Kain with some curiosity.

Akira woke in a cold sweat after a bad nightmare. She sa silently staring at the walls lost in thought. The girl lay back down and tried to go back to bed, realized it was a lost cause and decided a drink may help her cal her nerves. She stood and slowly pulled a sweatshirt on over her pajama top and threw her hair up into a messy bun before wandering out towards the kitchen. Halfway there she heard the soft chirps following her and paused. Lilly soon appeared and looked at the girl curiously. Akira sighed and continued along glad for the company.

She arrived, not noticing anyone else, and moved straight for the fridge, pulling out milk and proceeding to pour a cup before returning the jug and taking a seat at the table. Her eyes where half closed in her sleepy state as Lilly perched nearby staring at the other fire lizard in the room. Akira slumped slightly in th chair, exhausted and took a long drink from her glass.

Kain waved slightly to the weyrling that entered with her green firelizard. He continued munching on his chips. He wished Hobbs would finish that steak already. Looking over at the problem blue he noticed him curled protectively around the steak and glaring at something. Or rather someone.

Kain nearly had a heart attack when he saw Trinity, the wher handler, stand by the counter. She was brandishing a bloody knife. A breath of hot air and a crumpling of plastic alerted him to the theft of his snack. He swung his deep, dark eyes over and noticed Trinity's blue wher.

"Would you mind explaining this, Trinity?" Kain asked mildly.

Kain got to his feet to grab another bag of chips. The wher could have the one he had napped.

Trinity shrugged one shoulder nonchalantly.
"He likes chips." She said seriously.

But her attention was drawn to the young woman who sleepily stumbled in, poured a glass of milk, and still silently trudged over and collapsed at the table. She simply watched all this with a blank, faintly concerned expression, but when the blue wher under the table did nothing, she simply tossed her head back and moved over to the sink to take care of the rather fearsome homicidal maniac look she had going on.

Trinsk simply gurgled politely to Hobbs and Lilly, and snuffled around at the chip bag gleefully. Then he grumbled at Akira, scooting over to her and shuffling out from under table and whining softly as he noticed her. He rubbed his snout against one foreleg nervously, and scooted back towards Trinity.

"Oh, stop that." The tall blonde woman snapped, glaring at him. "Play nice."

Akira couldn't help it, when the wher snagged the chips she cracked up laughing startling Lilly into flight. The flit flew and landed near the other flit in the room wanting safety in numbers, the flits eyes showed fear as she stared at hers.

The blonde in question calmed down and gave a sheepish wave towards the two others in the room finally realizing she was not the only person in the room, and that she had inadvertently scared Lilly. Sighing she attempted to show her flit everything was alright, but Lilly only turned her head away. "Did i scare my flit that much?" she mumbled, drinking more milk. 'These nightmares are going to do me in at some point.. what is this the third night with the same dream? This is strange.'

Kain grumbled to himself. He rolled his eyes, also turning them towards Trinity. "I meant explain what your blue is doing here." Kain tossed a chip into his mouth as he finished speaking.

Hobbs looked at the young green flit seated next to him. His fauceted eyes began to whirl a mirthful greenish blue as he lowered his head. He lightly crooned next to the green's head at the same time he circled her with his tail.

Kain glared at Hobbs. " 'Op 'ha' 'Obbs!" was what came out of his mouth as the Weyrleader attempted to scold his blue. He turned annoyed eyes to the girl laughing behind him.

He swallowed. "What is so funny?"

Trinity gave Kain a look.
"I repeat: He likes chips." She said, hiding a smile behind her hair. "But if you must insist on something other than that, it was because I expected to be alone. And he isn't harming anyone." She sounded oddly defensive of her ward, and it managed to shock even her. So, growling, she went back to cleaning up, washing her hands and cleaning off the counter.

When she was finally done, she grabbed an apple from the bowl of fruit nearby and threw herself down across the table from Kain with a nonchalant air. Her eyebrow was raised at the laughing girl, and she eyed the milk in her hand.
"Don't spit that out your nose and everything, now."
Trinsk ambled over to her, nervous about all these new people, and shoved his head in her lap, burying his face under her arm with a worried and anxious croon. Trinity just lay her hand over his eyes absently, not even realizing she'd done so.

Akira spoke softly her voice showing her clear need for sleep. "A wher with chips..... is funny. Never thought to see that." She rubbed her eyes and,hearing Trinity's comment, "Won't happen."

Akira turnedd her attention to Lilly who was now staring at Hobbs and feeling less afraid. She motioned to her flit and again was ignored for a moment before the green moved away from Hobbs and flew to perch closer to Akira. "What has you up this late? I understand her reason because she has a wher, but what about you?" She said directing her gaze at Kain.

Kain arched an eyebrow at the Weyrling. "Nakia, Faizah's sister, said that wouldn't happen. Next day milk came out her nose due to some antic her green flit was up to." Kain explained.

Kain thought about her question. "Well, that blue bugger decided he was hungry and woke me from a sound sleep. Otherwise I would be snoring away right now. You?"

Hobbs growled at Kain's comment, after taking his attention from the green fire lizard nearby. Kain flicked a chip piece at the pesky blue. It landed perfectly between the eyes and made Hobbs growled again while scrabbling at his forehead. Kain chuckled.

Akira was silent for a moment before answering, unwilling to give too much away, " I had a bad nightmare and just couldn't get back to bed so a i came down here. I didn't think i would find anyone else in here. Though company is never a bad thing."

Lilly flew close to kain and nudged his hand. She turned an eye at the blue daring him to do something about her being close to his. The green flit was in a playful mood, and Akira looked at her and muttered, "Behave Lilly, I don't need you acting like Alexandira....my clothes already have one enemy they don't need you joining her in the fight to destroy my wardrobe too."

Trinity just rolled her eyes at the flit's antics, but she seemed rather inwardly amused. "You think they're bad?" She said, in response to Akira's complaint over her clothes. "You should deal with whers; little bastards are messy as anything I've ever seen." Under her arm, Trinsk wiggled his head, keening softly. Obviously, he did not approve. Trinity grunted, and swatted his nose, and he jerked back, startled.

"You're proving my point." She mumbled.

The girl thought for a momment and replyed, "I wouldn't think whers would be too messy...", Akira then grinned and relaxed back in her chair feeling more at ease with the people and creatures in the room. "....then again..they are larger than Lilly here."

At the mention of her name, Lilly turned an amused eye to the others in the room before again nudging Kain.

Kain smirked at the green as he began to scratch her eyeridges. Hobbs looked at the green curiously. Hobbs slunk over to where His was petting the green. The older blue forcefully, but not harmingly, nudged the green. He wanted her attention!

"Whers can be messy. But have you seen Virika's green?" Kain said, easily following the conversation. "That green is more cleanly than a cat!"

Trinity raised an eyebrow, and shrugged. "No. Haven't had the pleasure." She said with a faint air of apathy. But Trinsk seemed to catch something and nudged at her again, moaning softly.
"No! I know she might be a pretty shiny green, but we aren't going to go looking for her."

Trinsk let out a disappointed sigh, and settled back down on the floor. He gave his handler a baleful look, one Trinity was far less than pleased to realize was much more comprehending than she would have liked.
"And no pouting."

Akira grinned, "So do you like having a wher? I don't think I could take having to be nocturnel..."

Lilly nudged Hobbs back and gave a soft chitter before taking to the air flying around the room. Akira mumbled something and put her head on her hands staring off into space.

Hobbs trilled, joining Lilly in the air. He followed just behind her, sometimes doing a midair flip to show off. At one point Hobbs was flying on his back for a good two seconds.

Kain glared at his blue. "Stop flirting! Insufferable reptile..." He grumbled to himself, tossing another chip into his mouth.

You taught him this skill you call "flirting", mine. Gorth chimed in at that exact moment.

Kain coughed, doubling over with the action. NOT true... Kain told his bronze.

Trinity snorted abruptly, attempting to sound derisive, but it devolved into a fit of ill-concealed giggles.
"Flirting?" She managed finally. "Oh...oh dear. You aren't serious. He's...?" She giggled again, and did her best to stop this action by grabbing a chip from Kain's bag and crunching on it violently. "He-he reminds me of every sharding green pandering for attention. It's ..." She made an odd hiccuping noise and blushed. She glared at Trinsk, pretending it was him, and he just warbled in confusion. "It's hilarious."

Akira gave a snort of laughter and tried not to laugh too loudly,"Flirting? No wonder Lilly is in a good mood. She is getting male attention."

Lilly crooned and landed seeming to bat her eyes at Hobbs. Akira couldn't help it, she broke into giggles and said, "Houston i think we have a problem."

Hobbs landed as well, watching green Lilly intently. He was ignoring His, that was obvious, in favor of the pretty green before him. His eyes swirling a flight lavender in his flirting, Hobbs trilled to Lilly.

Kain couldn't help himself. At the sight of two beautiful girls giggling he started laughing too. He smiled at them, answering Akira's comment. "Indeed we do."

Trinity looked confused, and she pouted slightly.
"Who's Hyu-ston, and why does he need to know that?" She said, utterly baffled.

Akira grinned, "That was Earth saying. It has something to do with NASA. I don't really understand it myself."

Lilly trilled back to Hobbs and flew over to land on Akira's shoulder, giving hers a stare as if daring her to repremand her.
