Being alone at night, at the lake, was all Lawrence wanted to do. He made his way through the paths to the lake, absentmindedly kicking at rocks with the toe of his boot. Though his eyes had adjusted to the dark of midnight with little difficult, it didn’t make it any easier to see where he was going. All the weyrling knew was that he was heading for the lake. He snuck out of his weyr only minutes before, with Elonverrilth still sleeping. Glitch woke up briefly, moving closer to Lawrence out of pure adoration, and he had contemplated leaving her behind.
Instead, the green fire lizard was now happily curled around his shoulders, deeply asleep and nestled between Lawrence’s own body heat and the warmth provided by his thick coat. The bronze weyrling hardly noticed her presence, though his mind felt calm knowing that there was someone else with him. Someone that wouldn’t try to bother him about his feelings, or try to get to know him better. Glitch loved him simply because she was bonded to him. She didn’t ask for anything in return, but Lawrence was perfectly happy to have her tag along in any situation.
The weyrling shoved his hands into his pockets with a little difficulty due to the gloves that covered his hands, but finally managed it as soon as he reached the shore of the lake. There was naught but little ripples on the glassy surface of the water, and Lawrence booted a rock into the lake, watching the rings spread outwards. While the sky was cloudy, here and there patches of stars appeared. The weyrling followed their reflections on the water, marveling in the fact that the air was so clear that it seemed like millions of stars were visible in the tiny gaps in the clouds.
Glitch's green head peered out from under the hood that covered Lawrence's head. She opened her mouth in a tiny squeak of a yawn, earning herself a grin and a quick peck of a kiss from Lawrence. In return, the flitter licked the weyrling's cheek, nuzzling a bit closer as Lawrence continued to stare out over the lake.
