K'ryn raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat surprised, but he finished off what was currently in his mouth and glanced back at her.
"Ah, really? Well...um. Immediately before we came...well. We were originaly of Fort Weyr, you know. Not much was going on there. We flew formations like everyone else, nothing too exciting." He stared at the ceiling for a moment, trying to think of something to say.
"Oh! I was a harper before I Impressed. Well...almost. I think Synth ruined my progression past Journeyman, but, frankly, I won't complain. I don't know...I've never heard of a Rider-Harper before..." He shrugged, and smiled back at Faizah. "I wonder if it's possible? But...well. That about covers it. I had a rather boring childhood, except for the parts where Harper Rayan was involved. He was a very ...eccentric man..."

Faizah listened carefully. A Harper? Interesting. "Harper? What was your specialty?" She asked. She didn't know much about Pernese music or instruments, even though she had heard her share of amazing singing at the Hatching Feast. Surth had enjoyed the music as well.
Faizah began nibbling on her next cookie, enjoying the simplicity of the moment. She hadn't been able to truely sit and enjoy a soda and cookies for a long while. Something always went wrong.

K'ryn grinned, and brushed his fingers lightly on a napkin to get rid of a few crumbs. "Specialty? Oh, dear heart, you have to guess?" He said, laughing. "I was a singer, if you can believe it, and none to shabby at that. I wasn't exactly the type to be singing the higher, prettier ballads, for sure." And it was true, really; his voice was a deeper tone, smooth and strong but elegant, like some Earthian opera singers or rock stars. "But it never stopped me from some of the others."
He was about to say more when something white pooped into the surrounding air by his ear. A tiny white flitter alighted on his sleeve, landing awkwardly on his hindlegs, something clutched in his fore paws. "Braun, what now? You have the worst snese of timing." K'ryn growled. The white flitter just chirped and held out the crumpled mess of whatever he'd found, and K'ryn took it. A crumpled ball of newspaper.
"...Lovely. Thank you. I shall teasure it always..." K'ryn grumbled, as Braun hopped off his arm and stuck one foot into the mouth of the soda can to lick the soda off his toes.

Faizah listened intently. Of course his specialty would be singing. She loved to hear his voice. Singing would be a perfect Harper specialty for him. But it was better to ask than to assume. Always better to know completely than to guess.
As the white fire lizard popped in it was all Faizah could do to stifle the laugh that waited right behind her lips and tickled her throat. Reyna hadn't done such antics, but the calm gold was still one of the best things that ever happened to Faizah. Even if she wasn't as entertaining as the others. But that was good. When Faizah collapsed into bed at night she wanted to sleep, not be kept up by the antics of a hyper flit. And Reyna was perfect for the white rider.
"So, were you any good with the instruments? Or just the singing?" Faizah asked curiously. She offered Braun a cookie.

K'ryn smiled. "Well, they tried to train me on the pipes, but I sounded terrible. Squeaky and off key..." he said with a laugh. Oh, he remembered many nights when he'd been forcibly manhandled out of the apprentice barracks because his roommates had gotten quite tired of the high-pitched off-key squealing of his flute. "But, ah, I picked up the drums rather fast. Probably would have been my specialty if I hadn't been so preferential to singing." He absently tapped a quick stanza from one of the drum-messages on the table; he didn't know if she knew the drum code they used in the watch towers, but he quickly spelled out the code for "Greetings, rider".
Braun eyed the cookie suspiciously, then snatched it in his teeth and bolted to the other end of the table. Or, tried to, anyway. the way he grabbed it was rather inneffective, and he ended up falling over with it on top of him. He squeaked in horror, and grabbed it in his claws and began to roll away with it.
"Mostly singing, to answer your question, love. But I wasn't terrible at other things; I just never really finished my apprenticeship."

Faizah smiled at both the flits antics and K'ryn. When he tapped out the drum code she understood only the rider part. Faizah smiled as he spelled it out for easy understanding. She nodded at his final comment about his apprenticship.
"They pulled me onto the stage at Surth's hatching feast. Some of the others had heard me singing to myself during chores and wanted me to sing with the Harpers. I have to say it wasn't too bad. I cant really sing, but I can mimick the voices around me." Faizah blushed. "Even with this I can play the violin rather well. Flexibility is reduced, but I can play." She stretched the hand with the scar.
A gold mass appeared to the right and she looked to see Reyna there. The gold fire lizard alighted on the edge of the table and looked to the white. She cocked her head in confused curiousity.

K'ryn smiled and gently took her hand, tracing the scar thoughtfully. "Violin, huh? I'd like to hear that someday...I'd like to hear you sing, too, now that you bring it up." He gave her a daredevil grin. "Oooh. and you're blushing? Now I really want to hear."
When Reyna appeared, Braun stopped and gave a squeaky chirp, boggling his eyes and scooting over to the much larger Queen to sniff her delicately then circle her curiously. He then chirped again, happy, and shoved a chocolate chip from his cookie at her.
((Sorry- fail for now.))

Faizah blushed deeper. "Nakia has a better voice than I do. A nice, high soprano when she decides to use it. I can only repeat what I hear."
Reyna chirped back at the white firelizard as it inspected her. She politely crooned a rejection for the chocolate chip. She hadn't much of a taste for chocolate. Reyna just moved across from the two humans and curled herself into a gold ball. One fauceted eye was fixed on Faizah, swirling a lazy green. Reyna was acting as the shaperone.
"The violin? I suppose I might play it for you one day. I haven't played for someone in years." Faizah smiled. "Kain often wonders why I even bought my violin. I don't play it enough, he says."
(Only if you excuse my epic fail.)

((FAIL WARS!))
K'ryn watched Reyna with a certain amount of amusement. Was she- apparently so. He held back a snort of laughter, and very seriously folded his hands on the table like a good little holder boy told not to touch the cooling sweets on the table.
And then he sort of reached across and took Faizah's hand, gently turning it over and running his hand across her palm. "Well. You've got lovely hands for the violin. Elegant, I'd say. Though, i feel the need to add, you've also got a deadly hook shot when you try." he laughed, remembering the incident in the infirmary. "But I think Kain is right. If it makes you happy to play, you should do it more often."

Faizah giggled. "I slapped you, not punched you. I suppose it's from years of martial arts training." She thought back to the five years she had devoted exclusively to martial arts. She had excelled, it was needless to point out. "If I had punched you, you would have had a broken jaw with all likely hood."
She thought back to his last comment. "I would play more often, if I had the time to do so. But running the Weyr smoothly is very time consumming..." she said softly.
Reyna chirped, closely watching the humans. She eyed K'ryn especially, after he had taken Hers' hand. The gold's eyes were whirling a calm green, however.
Faizah laughed at her gold.
((I think that one is a fail. Not certain though...))

K'ryn experimentally touched his free hand to his jaw. "Remind me never to make you angry again, alright?" he said with a light laugh. "Not that I would ever want to, of course. But martial arts, huh? So they train girls to fight here? Usually it was left out oif a weyrwoman's trainging, from what I know, but ...well, it's different here. Obviously. Ugh." He shook his head. "And now I sound like spome sort of chauvanist."
He shrugged one shoulder, and just smiled as she explained how busy she was. "You do great, you know. You're an excellent Weyrwoman."

"I try not to hit people. Truthfully, I don't quite remember why I slapped you. And I don't want to be reminded." She grimaced.
Faizah nodded. "Not really. Women aren't left out of anything unless they choose to exclude themselves. We have a different social structure than Pern, that's all." Faizah smirked. "I chose to take martial arts because of the men my mother would bring home. Couldn't always trust them. So I learned to fight. I studied for five years." She was proud of her acheivements.
Faizah blushed slightly. "I try." Was all she said concerning her job as Weyrwoman.
