A Serene Moment-Lakeside

[Samari]

The shiny green flit known as Kara flew over the lake. She trilled to the critters all around. She banked and landed on the edge of a pine branch. She stretched out her wings and watched the water below. She suddenly dove down and rose out of the lake, a fat fish in her mouth. She floated over to the bank and began devouring her catch. Her green scales glittered.

Jas had been practicing some complex acrobatics along the side of the lake. He often came here to sleep, eat, sleep, and fly. But today something new happened. A lovely green flitt had come to his recluse. Curious, he stopped his session and landed on a rock to better watch her.

He duly noted her fishing prowes and overall elegance. As she consumed her prize he decided he wanted to make a good first impression. He considered how best to go about this. After some mild flitt pondering, he launched into the air and bugled a hello. He somersaulted and then barrel rolled, landing with a precise backwing not three lengths away from her. He cocked his head at her inquisitively and flashed her a picture of His and HisGreenEyelessOne.

Kara lifted her head up from her fish in time to see the blue flit showing off. She was rather impressed. She stretched her wings and trilled to the blue. She turned her head to the side before relaying an image of Hers and Hertinybrownone. She hobbled over closer to him and sniffed. She was rather taken with this blue. She turned her frame to where the sun glinted off her scales, giving her a jewel-like sheen.

The images the Green sent him seemed familiar... he must have seen them while flying at one time...He tried thinking back but was distracted by her coming over to smell him. Believing this to be sensible, he did the same to her. He wondered what to do next. Play tag? that would be fun. Maybe... but he was distracted again by her now shimmering hide. If there was ever a glint (pardon the mild pun) of truth in the 'dragon hoarding gold' thing, he was feeling it now. she was just so Shinny. He sat on his haunches and shifted his head as he looked at her.

Snapping out of his stupor, though not before making a fool of himself, Jas got up and pictured to her playing tag in the sky and then swimming in the lake followed by a questioning feeling. What did she want to play?

Kara thought for a moment, her eyes focused on the blue. She made a burbling sound and sent a thought tinged with amusement and laughter. She sent him an image of himself, glittering like a sapphire in the suns rays. She was complimenting him in a way. She had a moment of pondering. What did she want to play? She had an idea! She pushed an image of a particular set of mossy rocks about 2 feet away from each other on a straight line. She then projected an image of the glittery pair dashing towards those rocks. She wanted to race!

When she sent him an image of himself so pretty-like, he puffed his chest in mock pride. He knew that modesty is the best policy. Waiting patiently he tried to look around, but his eyes kept falling on the pretty Green. She was lov-e-ly in his opinion. almost as pretty as HisGreenEyelessOne.

ooo! a race! those were so fun! but then he became confused. he sent her a picture of them flying and then one of them 'running' (if you can call a sad hobble a run). Either way, it would be an enjoyable experience. Jas hadn't really taken the time to get to know the other flitts at the Weyr for some reason and so didn't really play with anyone except for His. And so, he prepared to go the distance. Go for speed.(pardon the mild Cake reference)

Kara chirped, nuzzling the shiny blue flit. She spread her wings out and let Jas observe what he was up against. Her tiny body was sleek, yet muscular. She was built for speed and agility. She turned and pointed with her elegant head to the rocks she'd told him about. She got herself into a good take off position, sending him an image of him positioned next to her. She then sent another image of them darting through the air.

If a flitt could blush, Jas would have right then and there. While he tried to recover from her tantalizing touch, She showed off her supple physique. His jaw dropped and he almost didn't notice when she gestured to the rock that was the goal. Seeing her get ready for takeoff, he automatically followed suit, lining up next to her. He opened his wings a little and crouched in preparation to spring into the sky.

When she sent him a picture of flying, he sent one back in affirmation and prepared to leap into the sky.

Kara let out a trill, rocketing into the sky. She spread her wings out wide and gave several powerful flaps. She made a flying dash towards the rock markers she'd indicated. She loved feeling the air whip past her, and watching the world become a blur.

((Sorry i 'left'. i went to take a short nap at 5 and woke up at 9:30 with the computer off :/ ))

half a moment after Kara moved away from the earth Jas leaped off of the rocky bank, snapping his wings open and delivering short flaps made for distance and speed but not altitude. The exhilaration of speed and race and pumping adrenaline made for a lightheaded feeling of elation. If he had had breath for it, he would have bugled his pleasure. But she was just a hair faster than he! searching for the path of least resistance, he cut through the air and strove to surpass the swift Green.

Kara looked at the small blue gaining on her. She sent a thought tinged with a chuckle. It was her, rocketing ahead. She flapped her wings rapidly and leveled her body out. She shot ahead like a green bullet.

feeling a bought of daring, Jas decided to do something outlandish. Foregoing wining the race, he tried showing off. Still moving forward swiftly, he began twisting and diving. Then he flipped underneath her and, flying upside down, grabbed her forefeet with his and dragged her into the lake. Pressing his wings against his frame he used his body and tail to swim deeper into the water with Kara. He finally let her go and darted around her impishly.

Kara screeched and darted out of the water with angry red eyes. She sent an image of hers shouting a very nasty Earth word to his shiny box thing with words. The word was VERY bad, because it resulted in Hertinybrownone flinching. She sat up on a tree branch, her eyes whirling around. Her mood had been soured thanks to Jas interrupting the race.

Still swimming, Jas was confused. Why would anyone not like to swim? Wet was fun! At first he was sad that he had upset the pretty flitt, but now he was just perplexed. The word she sent meant nothing to the innocent blue, but he assumed it was bad by how red her eyes were.

Wishing to make amends, he climbed out of the water and shook like a dog to become moderately dry. Trying to find something pretty for her, he scrounged the beach, finally finding a shinny green stone. placing it in front of her, he then looked at her with sad purple eyes and crooned a heartfelt apology. He didnt mean to make her angry. it was all in good fun. he wouldn't do it again. would she please forgive him? To show his subservience he even rolled onto his back showing his belly, still crooning his lamentations.

Kara humphed and picked up the green stone. It was the same color she was. She cooed and nudged the little blue, accepting his apology. Her eyes calmed to a blue hue, and stopped swirling as bad. She hobbled over to a rock and continued to gaze into her prettygreenstone. Maybe Hers would like it. She spotted something in the distance and set her prettygreenstone down to grab it. She flapped over to Jas and handed him a shinybluestone.

Jas whistled with admiration. This was the nicest thing anyone, that was not His, had done for him. He sat back on his haunches studying every facet of the Precious. Cooing, he looked back up at the gracious Green and pictured to her him placing the Precious on a secluded pillow in his weyr and then him returning to where he was now. With that he jumped to the air and Betweened out. Moments later he was back and touched down right next to her. Looking at her radiant form, he pondered whether or not she would be willing to race again...

Kara grabbed her shinygreenstone and betweened to do the same. She came back a moment later, stretching out on a rock. She raised her glittery wings to let some air flow under them. She turned to Jas and chirped, projecting an image she'd gleaned from Pern. It was a massive horde of other flits, some bronze and some brown, chasing after a shiny gold. The thought was oozing with envy of the little gold.

Jas's eyes widened in amazement. So many firelizards! But the taste of jealousy was a through the memory. The little Blue chirruped in consolation for the poor Green's strife. He chattered away, trying to make her feel better. You are just as lovely as that Gold. I would willingly Chase you any day. Your time to fly will come soon. In an effort to express his feelings fully, he sat down next to her and touched her wing with his, his eyes glowing a blue/green hue. Not exactly a kiss on the lips, but hey, he was new at this stuff.

Kara sent a thought of gratitude. She felt better knowing the little blue would covet her. She always felt jealous of the gold flits at High Reaches. All the flits respected and loved the shiny queens. Kara always felt dim and unwanted while the golden firelizards would fly past. She nudged Jas and trilled softly. Her eyes were swirling a soft purple.

feeling special for being able to make Kara feel better, Jas puffed out his chest in pride. When he looked back at her he noted the purple tinge in her eyes. Unwittingly, his own eyes began to take on a purple luster. But, being the innocent that he was, it only made him feel uncomfortable. Trying to lighten the mood he sent her a picture of them finishing their race that he had rudely interrupted followed by a questioning feeling. Would she like another go?

Kara trilled and stretched her wings out again, her eyes turning blue. She sent a picture of them swimming. She was starting to get a little warm. She cooed then dove into the blue liquid without so much as a splash. She enjoyed watching the fish go by.

ooo! swimming! he suffered a moment of confusion when he wondered why she was so angry at water five minutes ago and now jumped in wholeheartedly. But then he remembered she was a female and, well, females were females...

Following suit, he jumped in lightly with barely a ripple. Having lungs made for flying and a set of transparent eyelids made the wet almost a second home. He swam like a crocodile near to where Kara was and sent her feelings of inquiry, feelings of hunger, and images of the fish passing by. Care for a game of Catch-The-Yummy-Fish?

Kara mentally trilled and got her sights on a shiny fish. She darted out and snapped it up in her jaws. She flapped up out of the water to munch on her snack.

Jas shot through the water like a dart and grabbed a racing fish as well. It was about half as big as he was so he had to swim with it to shore and drag it onto the beach. Settling down where he could see Kara, he began devouring his meal also.
