(OOC: I figured I should do this before the IC weather becomes too cold for Adair to be having a hike in the wilderness near Rocky. And FYI, I already have permission from Faizah about Adair acquiring a wolf for a pet. You can read the thread here.)
IC Date: September 5, 2011

Adair has spent a month or so cooped up in the Weyr. He didn't really mind it but Finder was beginning to get anxious about flying outside in the sky. Therefor, one day when the Candidatemaster had given the Candidates a day off from lessons, Adair promptly did his assigned chores and set off to explore the nearby woods with Finder. He did leave a note by his door so that folks will know that he had gone out to explore. He had gotten provisions for a midday meal from the Headwoman and let her know as well that he was going to explore outside the weyr.
Finder was ecstatic to be flying about and he zigged and zagged as he led the way for His. Every once in a while, he would look back the way he came just to make sure that His wasn't too far along the way. They were hiking outside, something that Finder had been itching to do but was forbidden because of some rule that he no longer remembers. He was just happy to be out and about.
Adair followed closely after Finder and shaking his head at his flit's behavior. You'd think that he's been a captured prisoner or something. Adair mused silently although, the feeling of being a prisoner wasn't too far off the mark for they had been grounded inside the weyr. He had been planning on exploring for hours on end but that was cut short when Finder chittered excitedly ahead at finding something on the ground. Adair rushed a bit and was surprised to see an injured animal.
The wolf cub, had sensed someone approaching him and much as he would rather face his foe upright standing on his four legs, he was too injured to do so. Instead of growling a warning, all he could do was whimper in pain as he tried to get up and away. As he tried to get away, some strange creature found him and started chittering excitedly. He was damned if he wasn't going to fight his way out of his predicament and he renewed his efforts to stand. Before he could accomplish his goal, a man was suddenly there looking down on him. He couldn't stop the whimper of fear that escaped from his lips for it had been a man that had hunted him and his dam. He didn't even know where his dam was or if she was yet alive. All he knew was that, he was separated from her and he couldn't smell her scent or hear her call anywhere nearby.
In one glance, the little creature seemed to have suffered some sort of injury that Adair wasn't sure the cause of. All he could see was the pup, for it was a baby in Adair's mind that was lying whimpering on the forest floor. What Adair didn't know was that the pup was actually a wolf cub who had been injured by a gun shot wound which miraculously just grazed the body of the wolf cub. Still, Adair approached the creature slowly as he talked soothingly at the pup. Kneeling down, Adair assessed the wound and slowly getting his hands under the injured pup, gently carried the animal onto his arms. He didn't have the resources to stanch the wound but he knew that back in the weyr, there would be bandages he could use and maybe also someone who would know what caused the little pup's injuries. He looked about for Finder who he noticed was perched not too far on a nearby branch overlooking the spot where the injured pup had been.
"Let's head back home Finder. Sorry that our exploration was cut short, but this little one needs our help immediately." Adair told his blue flit. And with that Adair mentally sent Finder their new destination which was the Infirmary where he could get bandages and hopefully someone's help with regards to explaining the little pup's injury.
The wolf cub had been surprised at the gentle hands of the man that bore him up from the ground and into the man's arms. He didn't know what his future was going to be, but he let himself believe that someone such as the man that cradled him within his arms, with such gentle hands would help him and lead him to safety. Dizziness from loss of blood finally caught up to him and he fell into a deep slumber. He just wished that when next he woke up, he would be whole once more with his dam licking him clean from his nightmarish ordeal.
