Reya shrugged amusedly. "I grew up fighting two older brothers, and that toughened me up. My third brother was a bit of a fruit, so he didn't really fight anyone, but he always had good fashion advice," she explained.
It was her turn to raise an eyebrow at what he next suggested, though. "The Infirmiry? Please. The only times I've gone to the Infirmiry or hospital was when I either felt the pain behind the bruises without provocation, or when I was profusely bleeding. These are nothing," she said, trying to wave off the suggestion. Sure, with how numerous they were, she might want to check them out in further detail, but she didn't think they were bad enough to go to the Infirmiry.
"You seem more worried now than before. Why, cause I'm bruised? You should have seen me when I got into a fight with a damned Bronzerider from Fort who kept plagueing me on Pern." She laughed dryly. "I wasn't able to move for what felt like a week."

Kain nodded as she began to explain. He had had his fair share of brotherly scuffles. He knew how rough they could be. But he also knew that bruises could mean there was serious damage underneath the skin. He decided not to push her though, even as everything in him screamed to drag her down to the Infirmary himself.
Kain listened to what she said next, and he felt his fists clenching. What had the bronzerider done that had kept her bedridden for a week? And how dare that rider put his hands on a woman! Kain wanted to get names and residences and take Gorth to Pern right then, simply to have a few choice words with said bronzerider.
Kain's mind immediately went to Gorth. The bronze had overdone it with chasing the Isle green. He was in a lot of pain, but was sleeping soundly in his portion of the weyr now. Apparently one of the doctors had seen to him yesterday. Kain would have to go thank them...

Reya noticed the tightening of the skin on Kain's hands as he clenched them into fists. Perhaps she shouldn't have mentioned it...?
"Don't worry, he was down almost as long as I was, if I heard correctly. But, that was the fight that made N'ton decide to send me back to Earth. At least he had the courtesy to wait until I was healed before shipping me off. Besides, I doubt the bronzerider will follow me here. His dragon doesn't really have anything wrong with him."
Then she saw the distant look that she had learned meant a rider was either talking to their dragon or were thinking about them. "Is your dragon okay? I thought he was hurt this morning when he came back from...Isle?" she said, pausing a moment to think of what Rocky's sister Weyr was called.

Kain nodded, looking down at Reya. "Yeah. He has weak lungs, yet he was determined to chase. He has never won a flight... And this time he returned injured..." Kain paused for a moment, trying to calm himself down. It wouldn't do to wake Gorth...
"He is in a lot of pain. But one of the doctors saw to him, gave him pain meds or something, and he is resting now. He is going to be out of it for a while, though." Kain explained.
He tried to focus back on what Reya had been saying before. But it didn't matter. He couldn't remember what she had said. Not that it would have made a difference. As long as the rider didn't come to Rocky or Isle, Kain would leave the man alone.

Reya looked to where the two halves of the weyr met. "Poor Bronze," she said sympathetically.
Kain still seemed tense about her telling her abuses suffered by that infernal Bronzerider, but she was determined to put it from both of their minds as best as she could.
She slipped behind Kain, reaching up to rub his shoulders. "Don't worry, amore mio." She leaned into his back, listening to his heartbeat for a moment. 'Why does he relax me so much? Is it because he's the first man I've slept with? No...surely that'd make everything more awkward. Could it be that I have more feelings for this strange man than I realize?' she thought, feeling her eyebrows pull together in her slight confusion.

Kain nodded as Reya spoke about Gorth. Kain felt bad that his bronze was in pain, but at least Gorth was sleeping it off. Right...?
Kain looked over his shoulder, watching Reya as she moved behind him. She started to rub his shoulders, but then she leaned against him. Her head was resting on his back, and he could only assume she must be listening to his heartbeat. He couldn't see her expression, but she seemed to be lost in thought.
Kain stayed silent. He didn't want to disturb her.

Reya felt...safe? content? both? against the Weyrleader's back. Had they not been standing up, she almost could have fallen asleep against him like this.
Then, the perfect, happy moment was ruined. Her bruises were more sensitive to lactic acid build-up than the rest of her body, being freshly formed and still tender, and standing still wasn't helping the matter. Sure, she wasn't out running a marathon or something that would cause massive lactic acid accumulation, but she still felt the sudden burn in her numerous bruises on her legs and lower torso.
The burn then led the buckle of her knees, and she slumped slightly into Kain's back, letting out a startled squeak. The other bruises voiced their dislike of the sudden motion and the impact against the muscled expanse of a human back. Were she not the tough woman she was, she might have fully collapsed to the ground from the wave of pain radiating from all of the now-irritated bruises.

Kain felt the slight weight of her leaning on him more. And he most certainly heard her squeak.
Quickly Kain turned and literally swept Reya off her feet. He wouldn't take the risk that she fall and hurt herself more. Kain held her close to him, protectively, as he struggled to find words to ask what had happened. Before he could, however, Kain leaned his forehead against hers. He took a few deep breaths, trying to calm his suddenly racing heart.
"What happened? The bruises?" He finally managed to ask, although he didn't know why he asked. The only thing that could have happened was that the bruises had been agitated somehow...

Reya felt her own heart now racing, startled at Kain's quick reactions to her legs collapsing. She felt a flush creep up her neck and stain her cheeks, struggling to regain her emotions and recompose herself.
When he asked her what had happened and mentioned the bruises, she only trusted herself to nod before regaining most of her composure. "Yeah. I guess the bruises don't like me standing still for too long...I can't believe they flared up with that intensity so quickly," she muttered.

Kain continued to take deep breaths to calm himself. Then he turned and deposited Reya on the bed, sitting down next to her. If her bruises were going to do that then he was making damn sure she stayed off her feet for a little while longer.
"Then no standing for you right now. Give your body a little more time to heal." He mentioned to her. His eyes kept roaming over the bruises. He still felt horrible about causing them...

Reya snorted slightly, trying to hide a smile. "I said the bruises don't like it when I stand still, not when I just walk about, amore mio." But she didn't bother to get up, knowing her bruises weren't going to let her about for a while, and that she was just talking big.
She looked over at Kain, noticing his eyes held distaste as he looked over her bruises, and guessed why. "Don't worry about the bruises, caro. If I remember right, I dared you to do your worst," she said, giving him an awkward smile. "You certainly followed through with that dare."
((Sorry for the meh post, my muse is blah...x.x))

Kain laughed in a tight tone. "Well, I think we have both learned a lesson. You to never dare me to do my worst, and me to never wander about in flightlust again..." He sighed when he was done talking, however.
Kain leaned forward and rested his head on Reya's shoulder. He didn't know what to do. Surely Faizah would be along any minute now, wondering what had happened. And Gorth would wake eventually. Not to mention, there was Reya...
Reya...
Kain didn't open his eyes. He just took a deep breath, inhaling her unique feminine scent. She smelled good. And there was a chance she might be pregnant right now. With his child... A part of Kain wanted to smile at the thought. Another part wanted to run around the room like a chicken with its head cut off, screaming.
He laughed a little at his own mental image.

With a slight laugh, Reya nodded, agreeing with what he had said. She then leaned into Kain slightly, as much as him resting his head on her shoulder would allow, anyway. However, when he laughed, she turned her head to look at him and raised a brow. "What's so funny?" she asked, unsure if she wanted to know or not. But she was always the curious one.
And curiosity did kill the cat.
((Muse is fried. Sorry Faizah.))
