IC Date: Week of Jan. 29th, 2012 IC Time: 5:15 p.m. [/b][/u] Mentari had spent the morning trying to find Tad. She was worried about her health, which had started to act up. As a small child she had had problems with asthma, but this was different. She was nauseous, sore, her period was late, she felt bloated, she was having strange cravings, constantly tired... The list continued. Why she had wanted to search out Tad before going to the Infirmiry, she didn't think about. She just knew she had wanted him with her. But finally, as the hour grew late, she had given up. Instead she had sent Christopher to Tad's white flit, Cobweb, with a message that Mentari would be in the Infirmiry. She hoped Christopher would find Tad and give him the message. Mentari was really worried, but she didn't want to tell Faizah. Faizah would demand she not only see the doctor, but probably insist that she stay a few nights in the Infirmiry as well...

The infirmary? Mentari was sick? With absolute and utter worry, Tad ran out onto his ledge without his coat.
Then he realized that he could not help Mentari if he froze to death. He grabbed it, vaulted onto Kimath and let the dragon glide him down into the bowl.
The infirmary. Something horrible had to be happening if she'd called him. Some horrible sickness or defect. He was going to lose her right after he had found her. Out of breath, he all but dove into the room.
"Mentari?"
Where was she? He was not going to panic...not on the outside. But inside, he was coming up with all kinds of horrible scenarios...

"Tad...?" Mentari questioned from behind him. She had been sitting in the corner near the doorway. Mentari had seen him nearly dive into the Infirmiry, but she hadn't had the chance to see who it was until he called out for her.
She leapt out of her chair, practically running to him. She had been so worried, still was worried, and she wanted the comfort of being in Tad's arms. When she reached him she wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his chest. She didn't dare cry. Not when she didn't know what was going on. Not when she didn't know if she was sick or not...
The doctor appeared in the waiting room, holding Mentari's file. "Miss Pandora?" He called out, looking with curiosity at the scene before him. He knew the reason she was here. She had been here two days before to have blood work done.
Mentari heard the doctor, but she couldn't bring herself to move away from Tad. Instead, she whispered into his chest. "I'm so scared..."

"It'll be okay," Tad said, in tones that indicated somebody would pay if it wasn't. But the doctor could not examine her while he was holding her. He hugged her firmly, then gently disentangled her from him.
"I'm right here." He just hoped she hadn't ended up with Faizah's blood problem, which was treatable, but a pain in the neck, from all he had seen. But then all of those other horrible situations, many of them far worse, floated into his head again. And Mentari was clearly thinking of them too, and he needed to be here, but part of him wanted to run and hug Kimath.

Mentari nodded, allowing Tad to disentangle them. She nodded again when Tad assured her that he was here for her. She looked over at the doctor, tears in her eyes, and nodded at him. She took a few halting steps forward before squaring her shoulders and following after him.
The doctor led them into one of the further back examination rooms. Mentari took a seat uncertainly on the examination table, shooting the doctor a fearful look. He motioned towards another chair, intending it for Tad. But the doctor wouldn't be surprised if the boy stood next to Mentari. The doctor took a different chair, looking through the chart for a moment. "We got your blood results back, Mentari-"
"Please don't tell me its something bad..." Mentari interrupted, her voice breaking at the end of the sentence. She felt the tears brimming more powerfully, but she held them back. She wasn't going to cry...
The doctor shook his head. "Nothing bad. You're probably worried you have the same blood condition as Faizah, which I'm glad to assure you is not the situation." The doctor paused for a moment. He glanced at the file again before closing it. He heard Mentari sigh.
"You're pregnant, Mentari." The doctor said.

Pregnant? Relief flowed through Tad...although pregnancy was difficult and uncomfortable, it wasn't...
...wait...
Pregnant.
Kimath had won Ladeth's flight and as far as he knew there was only one man Mentari had slept with...possibly ever, he wasn't sure.
Pregnant.
Oh. My.... After the initial relief, his jaw just kinda...dropped.
Pregnant.
What was he going to do about *this*?

Mentari had a similar reaction. At first she felt almost dizzy with the relief. Oh, how she had feared having the same blood condition as her sister!
But being pregnant wasn't that much better. She gulped, then took a deep breath to try and calm herself a little. Her heart had started beating a million miles a minute it seemed. Mentari looked over at Tad, wondering what his reaction was.
She giggled a little at Tad's expression. His jaw had dropped and he didn't seem to be looking at anything, really. And the comical appearance of his reaction eased Mentari's own fear a little. She smiled and reached out to take his hand.
"Can we have a minute alone, Doctor?" She asked, looking at him with a small grin. Mentari was more calm now that she knew what was wrong.

If one could call it 'wrong'. But Tad knew who's fault this was...and he couldn't even blame Ladeth, as this could well have happened before the flight.
Nope. It was not the fault of their dragons. It was his fault...and, yes, hers...but he had been raised to consider it the man's responsibility. If Mentari was pregnant, assuming she didn't want an abortion...then he had a responsibility to her and the kid. In his old life, that would have meant asking her to marry him.
Now? He was not sure that was...allowed. Or the right course of action. Or... He was so lost.

The doctor left the room at Mentari's request.
Mentari looked at Tad, worry clouding her expression again. He seemed upset... She tried not to feel guilty over this. A child was a miracle, she believed. But Tad seemed more worried than she was. She was almost tempted to tell him she wanted an abortion, just so that he would stop worrying.
But she wanted to keep it...
That sudden thought took Mentari by surprise, and she couldn't keep the tears from falling any longer. She looked the other direction, at the wall, and wiped her eyes. She didn't want Tad to see her crying. She didn't want Tad to see her so upset. She wanted this baby, as much of a surprise that it was.
Mentari finished clearing her eyes before turning back to Tad. She willed herself to put strength in her voice. "What do you want to do?" She asked. She could have slapped herself for the gruffness of her voice when she spoke.

He studied her. "I..." A pause. "It's my responsibility to do the right thing...and that means giving you all the support I can. I just wasn't expecting it."
He should have been...they hadn't been using protection, after all, and some women were fertile enough to catch from one or two attempts. Or they had just gotten...lucky. "What do *you* want to do?"
If she wanted to keep it, then he would have to get used to the idea of being a father. And although he knew that would take time, he also knew...that being with a woman seriously *did* carry that risk with it. It was just a little sooner than he had expected. That was all.

Mentari paused, thinking it through. They were young, and if they continued to be in a relationship with each other, there would be plenty of time to think about children. Mentari wasn't sure she was ready to be a mother. But she just couldn't wrap her head around the idea of having an abortion.
And she knew she wanted the baby, even if she wasn't ready to be a mother.
She bowed her head, looking at the floor intensely. "I want to keep it..." She muttered in answer to Tad's question.

"Good. I think, though, that we might need some...help." Tad wracked his brain. There was Faizah, she could advise, and he knew by now that she had more or less raised her siblings. There were various people in his own family, except...
He knew how they would react...by all but physically dragging him and Mentari into a church. THEY would not understand the Pernese customs they lived by. For that matter, how much did they apply? He didn't know. And he would gladly have married Mentari...but would she want to marry him? Carrying on as they were just felt right, baby or no baby.

Mentari nodded, knowing what he meant. "Faizah would help. I know that. Lakeen too..." She paused for a moment, thinking. She was ashamed to say she knew nothing about Tad's family. And that was going to be part of their child's family...
She decided she wanted to atleast meet them. Perhaps...
"What about your family?" Mentari asked hesitantly.

"My family...any of them...will immediately demand that I marry you. In a church. And lecture me for being so careless, and refuse to shut up. Most of them don't even know where I am, or about Kimath."
Which was a mess, but then, no worse than many Holder types....except that Holder kids were educated about dragonriders and the way things were for them.
"They...don't actually know about the Weyr," he admitted, finally. "I've been trying to work out how to tell them everything since...since before I Impressed Kimath." Poor Tad.

Mentari nodded. "Most people don't know about the Weyr. It has to be that way." Mentari said. When she had first gotten here she had spent a lot of time with Faizah, and had even met Ammon. She remembered Faizah and Ammon talking about keeping the Weyr secret. She sighed.
Marriage. His family would demand they get married. Mentari was surprised to find that she didn't mind that idea. At all. She rather liked the idea of marrying Tad. She blushed slightly. "I wouldn't mind marrying you..." She whispered.
Although they would have to ask Faizah. Get her permission. Mentari shivered a little at letting her sister know that she was pregnant. That wasn't going to be pleasant...
Mentari leaned over and hugged Tad, wanting to feel close to him. And wanting to comfort him. It was obvious that he was conerned about his family, and what they would think about what had happened to their son.

"Neither would I, but I thought dragonriders generally didn't...because of flights." He would have to deal with the fact that Ladeth might not always choose Kimath.
"Kimath IS going to chase greens other than Ladeth. I can't stop him. Dragons aren't exactly monogamous creatures." Except the rare queen who would keep choosing the same bronze, but it was unusual.
He knew he wouldn't be able to stop the blue, even though, at least at that point, he wanted nobody but Mentari.

Mentari nodded. "I understand that. Flights do make it complicated. But it's not like you would be cheating on them outside of flights..." She was speculating. She knew that. What was she trying to do? She wondered to herself.
She liked Tad. Really liked Tad. Maybe even loved him. But she couldn't make the promise that Ladeth would always choose Kimath. Just like Tad couldn't promise that Kimath would only chase Ladeth. And Mentari knew that there might come a day when Kimath might not even chase Ladeth...
She tried not to think like that. It was going to depress her. She wanted Tad. She wanted to have that tie to him that marriage gave her. Even though it was essentially only a piece of paper, she wanted to have that.
Or maybe she was just being a dreaming kid again...

"Maybe we should talk to Faizah about it," Tad said, after a long moment. "She's the one who's used to juggling the two worlds.
And as little as he wanted to heap something on the Weyrwoman, he had come to respect her wisdom and understand exactly why she was the one in charge here. She had everything needed for it. And she was also Mentari's sister...yeah.
Talking to her struck him as for the best.

Mentari nodded in agreement. "Talking to Faizah about it would be the best thing. She would know what we can and can't do." Then a thought crossed Mentari's mind. They had to tell Faizah she was pregnant. And while she knew her sister wouldn't throw that much of a fit, Mentari didn't expect Faizah to take it lightly...
"That means telling her I'm pregnant..." Mentari whispered. She was a little on the nervous side, even though she probably shouldn't be.

"And she might freak out?" Tad considered that. "She has to know sooner or later, and if I was her, I'd be less mad about being told than about noticing when you're..."
He cupped his hands in front of his stomach, managing a bit of a grin. "So. I vote we tell her right away. Get it over and done with."
And if she did get mad, Tad planned on being there to take the heat for Mentari. Or, they could...blame the dragons. If all else failed. Faizah might ride a white, but she surely understood...

Mentari shook her head. "I don't think she will freak out. But I don't expect to get out of there without a lecture..." She smiled a little at the thought of her sister giving a lecture to them.
While Mentari couldn't hear Tad's thoughts, she did agree. If all else failed, they could say she likely conceived when Ladeth flew. Which is probably what happened to begin with...

"Like I said. Let's get it over with." If she lectured them about being too young, then Tad could take that. But she was the boss *and* Mentari's sister.
She needed to know. "Think she might be busy right now?" If he didn't go now he might lose his nerve...she was a little intimidating, being in charge and having that huge white dragon. Surth was quite gorgeous...and at the thought of white, Cobweb appeared from between and settled to his shoulder. "And where have *you* been?" he asked the speckled white flit. Not getting an answer, of course.

Mentari nodded. "She is always busy. But she makes time for us." She said, referring to all the residents of Rocky.
She moved to get up. At the same time the doctor knocked on the door. Mentari nodded that he could come in, then she asked, "Is there anything I need right now?"

Tad distracted himself from the doctor coming back in by rubbing Cobweb along the base of his neck. This caused the white flit to croon-purr softly. He knew Cobweb was really neuter, but he had always thought of the white as a 'he' somehow.
Eh. It worked, and the speckled firelizard made a great shoulder or arm decoration. Having him there helped Tad quell his emotions almost as much as Kimath would...Kimath being distinctly, well, confused about certain things.

Trying to hurry and get done with it, so that they could go find Faizah, Mentari waited impatiently for the doctor to find the prenatal vitamins he wanted her to take. After getting them, Mentari headed to leave the room. She was getting a little more nervous about telling Faizah she was pregnant...
