Faizah nodded politely to J'kent as she saw him enter, then continued over to Lesla. When Faizah noticed the little bronze she smiled. That was a pleasant surprise. Then she smiled at Lesla. "A bronze? You must be very happy. I need to get his name and measurements down, if you don't mind?"
The egg that J'kent held continued to crack, a complete circle, before it just simply fell away from the flitter within. As the egg shell fell away a blue hide could be seen with perfect clarity. The blue's head swung around for a moment before settling on J'kent. Then it opened its mouth as his eyes whirled red from hunger.

Lesla looked up at the Weyrwoman as she spoke. Grabbing a handful of meat, she stood up from her sitting position. She nodded in the affirmative at the Weyrwoman's question. And then, looking down at Zeus, she gave a rare smile and softly said, "Yes, Weyrwoman Faizah, I am very happy." while giving her bronze flit another tidbit of meat. "I named him Zeus." Lesla added as she held up Zeus closer for inspection byt he Weyrwoman.
Houkath just looked between Lesla and the Weyrwoman trying to follow what's going on but she could hear a thing since the Hers was talking aloud and not mentally through their bond. She hoped everything was okay and that the hatching would finish soon. She would like to see all the flit eggs hatch but she was beginning to feel a tidbit hungry. If those eggs don't hatch soon, she just might nudge Hers and tell them they should go so that she could get something to eat.
Seichou was happy that His would not have let him get off her shoulder. But still, since there were still eggs that needed encouragement in hatching, Seichou gave a soft trill as he caressed Lesla's cheek and let her know that he was going to join the other flits still humming near the clutch of eggs. Then he winged off of Lesla's shoulder to alight near the eggs. Once he was settled on the sands, he resumed his humming blending his voice with those that were already humming. Seichou hoped the flits in the eggs would hatch soon. He didn't know how long until Houkath complains of her hunger.
Zeus looked gulped the offerec tidbit of meat and opened his maw for more. However, His had other ideas for he felt himself rising as His held him up. Looking about, he came face to face with a different person. He chirped wondering what's going on but, ignoring the other person, Zeus faced His once more and demanded to be fed by opening his jaws.

Faizah smiled as she took a tape measure and measured Zeus. As she was writing down his name and measurement she asked Reyna to bring her the small scale. Reyna willingly complied, setting the scale on the ground at Lesla's feet before she perched herself on Faizah's shoulder.
"Please set him for a moment on this. It'll tell me his weight." Faizah instructed, stroking Reyna's chin in an unconscious gesture.
Reyna chirped at the little bronze in curiosity. He seemed a slightly bossy little thing...

Lesla ducked her head in apology as Zeus seemed to have ignored the Weyrwoman and was still demanding to be fed. Lesla complied by dropping another tidbit of meat down Zeus' maw. She was glad that the pieces of meat were chopped finely enough that Zeus didn't really have to chew his meat at all. As soon as she saw him gulp down the meat, again she dropped another tidbit before Zeus could demand to be fed.
From the behind the Weyrwoman, Lesla saw the gold lug the scale to where they were and set the scale down by her feet. After she heard the Weyrwoman's next set of instructions, Lesla sat down on the ground at gently settled Zeus on the scale. She wondered if she should give him another piece of meat or wait until the Weyrwoman was done with measuring how much Zeus weighed.
Zeus chirped a greeting at his dam politely enough. However, he was not liking the fact that he had been set down by His on something metallic. He also didn't like that he was not being fed as he demanded. He hissed and flicked his tail in irritation. Looking around, he saw the bowl of meat on the other side of His. He attempted to get off the scale to get to the food but His stopped him from getting to the bowl of meat. He looked up at His kreeling pathetically of his hunger.
Lesla had been fast enough in keeping the bronze on the scale. She just didn't know how long she could keep him still. With his piteous look of begging for food, she just didn't have the heart to say no and quickly offered another tidbit of meat. She just hoped that it was okay with the Weyrwoman.
Houkath being deaf, just silently watched the proceedings. She did keep her making her focus back and forth between Hers and then back to Seichou who was with the clutch of eggs in the Sands.

Faizah smiled and nodded her head. "You can feed him, just as long as he sits there for a moment. Shouldn't take too long for the weight to pop up." Faizah explained.
Reyna chirped, explaining to her son that he needed to sit still for only a moment.

D'niel dashed into the hatching grounds, Abhi winging in just behind him. "Sorry I'm late! It took Streeth a while to wake me up," he explained as he stumbled in the sands.
He shyly walked over to the egg with a '7' drawn in bright red, assuming that the numbers were those coinciding with the number he chose a little while back. He gently scooped it up and waited for Faizah who was apparently running this circus.

J'kent didn't move that much as the little nose of the firelizard hatchling creeped out of its heat-hardenned shell. It was a blue, he saw. His hide was a a dark shade, but smooth and soft.
Dust appeared over his shoulder, crooning softly to the little flit. As the flit came out of its shell, creening, J'kent held out the meat from the bowl, a silent offering. The flit fell onto it, hissing savagely, eating as much as he could with his small jaws. It was only maybe two or three minutes before the tiny thing was stuffed to the point of bursting. The little blue yawned once, than curled up in the nook of HisJ'kent's arm.
Dust flicked his long tongue once at him, than copied his younger cousin, curling up in the nook of J'kent's other arms. J'kent's grin became ironic.
i suppose his days of being jealous are things of the past? Marith's voice was amused; she was sitting on a ledge not far away, watching the proceedings.
Oh, shut up. Marith's only response was a deep chuckle.
"well, now for a name. What should I name you, little one?" He didn't expect a response, and didn't get one either. Dust twitched his tail, but the newly hatched flit just slept on, oblivious.

((Wolfayne, J'kent's flitter is blue. I clearly stated it in the last post where it hatched.))
Faizah finished weighing Zeus and thanked Lesla before hurrying over to Daniel. "Hey, it's fine. Your egg hasn't hatched. Do you know what to do?" Faizah asked. She grabbed a bowl of meat and set it next to him as she awaited his answer.

"Uhhh... Kinda? I mean, yeah. I do, thanks." he said as he put the bowl in a more reachable spot, he would have to shovel the red stuff out fifty miles an hour when it finally poked its head through.
He waited almost patiently for the first cracks to appear in the little egg. He wondered what color it would be...

Shinji was forgetting something. He KNEW it. He leaned back against the startlingly warm hide of the big bronze in his weyr, and affectionately rubbed the crazy dragon's head just behind the...well, he called them horns, but everyone kept re-correcting him with 'headknobs'- either way, it was one of the itchy places that drove Wrath mad.
Then he noticed Sakura sit bolt-upright and cheep, then begin a low humm. What was she doing? He scooped up the little green and glanced at her, but she just looked at him with half-lidded eyes and hummed rather flippantly right in his face. Shinji tucked her under one arm, where she promptly curled up and pointed her nose in the direction of the bowl.
The gold small one Renya has her clutch hatching. Wrath supplied lazily, too tired to bother clarifying any further. Even despite the rather constant state of fuzziness and murky fog the dragon lived in, Wrath remembered Shinj had been meaning to go see the hatching.
"Oh...OH! OH HEEEEELLLL!" Wrath snorted and tucked his muzzle under one arm and went back to sleep as Shinji literally bolted from his weyr. Silly boy, he was. Silly like...clouds...and...he was asleep.
Shinji didn't hardly pay attention to what was around him as he ran for the hatching sands; his little green flitter squealed and betweened ahead after getting tumbled off her perch on his forearm. Shinjiro just sent her a distracted agreement that he'd find her again, and kept running. Sakura arrived at the edge of the sands, and she stayed there, crooning a greeting to Reyna before humming softly once more. The prettygoldone had eggs! This was a lovely thing. Nothing made her happier than EGGS!
Shinji had just about made it to the human-sized entrance to the sands when his headlong charge was halted abruptly by a solid mass of human that he slammed into. Opening his eyes, he looked up at a rather confused-looking man with long dark hair, who was holding him by the shoulders- an effort to keep either ofthem from falling over. "Sorry! Busy! You okay?" Shinji stammered out hurriedly.
A'shan just shrugged and released him. "I suppose there was no real damage. You were heading for the sands, then?"
"...Yes. I forgot. Hatching... you know." The purple-haired boy spoke as he walked backwards into the nearly blisteringly hot sands. Then his attention was entirely on the eggs, the few others in who held tiny and rather adorable little flits who'd already hatched, and the Weyrwoman.
"...actually, I don't know." A'shan murmured, watching the energetic weyrling. He made sure the small and rather bouncy woman behind him was unharmed, but she just shoved him forward with a huff, and a reminder that this was all in the name of science. (Or her personal curiousity. Lorelei was a force of nature; you just didn't argue with her.) So he resigned himself to his fate and stepped in to the Hatching grounds.

LiAnne, some of the dragons say there are fire-lizard eggs Hatching. Do you want to go see them? Jayrisith spoke wishfully. Unless you are content with Zune who is gone more than he is with you. Then we don't have to go anywhere. The little Green spoke again innocently and batted her eyes at the young woman beside her.
LiAnne, having just celebrated her twentieth birthday a few days ago, wasn't in the mood to hang with a bunch of people. Her only company besides her dragon - and her flit for once - was a little girl named Caevaniara. The little blond was singing to her audience which consisted of an attentive cat, a blue flit and Zune. Her cheerful voice was soothing as she continually repeated her favorite song.
"Baa, Baa, B'ack S'eep Havve yoo any wirds? Yessir! Yessir! T'ree bags full! One fer my master One fer the dane One fer the liddle boy who livves down the lane!"
Niara squealed at the end and grabbed her cat in a happy hug. Surprisingly, Raka didn't squirm at the attention and instead purred loudly. "Hey, Niara, would you like to see baby fire-lizards?" LiAnne beckoned the little girl to her who came over with a smile. "Li-zards like Heka?" Caevaniara pointed to her mother's pet currently having a staring contest with Zune.
"Yes, but you won't be able to get very close. Your mommy would kill me if you got one," laughed Anne. Ciara was a formidable woman who wasn't afraid to beat someone into a pulp. That and her multitude of college degrees was intimidating.
"O-Kay!" Caevaniara skipped over to Jayrisith and did her best to clamber onto the Green's back. Laughing, the dragon used her nose to nudge the child up. Raka followed at a surprising speed and then LiAnne. Once everyone was settled, Jayrisith launched herself from her ledge and soared over the Weyr. Where are the fire-lizards hatching? The Hatching grounds.
Jayrisith landed away from the group of people and Reyna's clutch. Already LiAnne could see people with Hatchlings about them. Still, a few eggs had not Hatched, leaving Anne with a chance to Impress one. "Niara, I want you to stay here with Jay. If I Impress, you can help me care for the little one. Okay?" The weyrbrat nodded solemnly and LiAnne approached the little clutch.
"I hope I haven't missed anything."

Lesla managed to make Zeus understand that he was supposed to stay still on the scale. It took no time for the Weyrwoman to quickly weigh Zeus. Once that ordeal was over, Lesla was once more occupied with a demanding hungry bronze. Lesla noticing that the meat left in the bowl were big enough that Zeus would need to actually chew for once, she gently let Zeus lay on top the meat inside the bowl. Then, she hefted the bowl with a happily chomping Zeus inside it, up from the ground as she stood up and looked towards the clutch of eggs. There were still a few left that needed to be hatched.
Catching Houkath's attention, she asked her green, So, do you want to go now or do you still want to watch the hatching? Now that Lesla managed to Impress Zeus, she was fine with leaving the sands.
Houkath on the other hand did not want to leave yet and sent the image of her staying until all the eggs had hatched. Actually, Houkath was wondering if she herself could Impress her own little flit. A flit that would act as Houkath's ears so that Houkath can finally be able to respond when others talk to her. It was rather hard trying to speak what one didn't know how to say, and doubly hard when one can't hear the words being spoken to learn how to say the words. Houkath has tried to read mouths but it's hard and people just don't talk the same way which just confuses Houkath. She has been thankful to Faranth that at least, she is able to hear the thoughts of Hers.
Seichou had not stopped his humming and wished that the other eggs will hatch soon. This hatching was getting rather long and he was getting thirsty. Humming non-stop was thirsty work in the brown flit's opinion.
Zeus finally having had his fill crawled his way out of the bowl of meat. Up along His' left arm and settled on His' left shoulder. With a pleasured croon, he curled up on himself and promptly fell asleep.
Lesla noting that Zeus was asleep took care in how she moved making sure that she didn't dislodge the sleeping flit on her shoulder. Moreover, looking down, she saw that the bowl was still half full of meat. Once more looking back at the rocking eggs, she wondered if she could entice another flit if for some reason one of those numbered eggs hatches and their supposed owners do not arrived in time to Impress the flits themselves. And since Houkath seemed to want to stay until all the eggs have hatched, they just might have a chance at another flit.

Loren, for her part, was quite entranced by the tiny green, having moved back away from the rest of the eggs once she had stuffed the hatchling's stomach full of meat.
She had fallen asleep in the crook of her elbow. Green was a good color, Loren thought, although she was hardly the shade of camoflage, any variety, or army green. She definitely needed a name for the little one.
This was worth watching, too. Pretty soon, she would be dealing with a hatching of the full-size dragons, and although it had to be quite different...the dragons were intelligent and chose their partners...it also had to have its similarities. The dragon hatchlings would...she could make a guess at how big they would be, comparing the size of the baby firelizards to their mother. Her green was quite a lot smaller than the bronze, but that was some kind of natural color spread.
It helped, anyway. They would be large, but they would hardly be *huge*.

Faizah nodded at Daniel and then looked around her. She noticed A'shane, so she grabbed his egg (number 11) and headed over to him. "A'shane. Yours is here. Grab a bowl." Faizah deposited the egg into his hands, then began to explain. "When it comes out of the egg, feed it. Don't even think about it, just shove the meat into it's mouth." Without another word Faizah was off.
She headed to Loren next, holding her notebook and the scale. She smiled at Loren as she spoke. "I need a name and measurements on record. Have you named her yet?" Faizah asked, her pen already to the paper to write it down.
Daniel did have to wait long for the cracks to appear. In fact, no cracks appeared, really. One moment the egg was whole, and the next the egg had shattered and a little brown was sitting in his hands.

"Ahh!" Daniel exclaimed in surprise. He was not expecting such an entrance as that! Regaining his composure, the young man began shoveling food into the little creature's mouth.
"Whatever will i call you, ya cretin?" Dan wanted to think of a suiting name, which usually took a few days. But since Faizah would like on as soon as possible, he picked one that had been on his mind for the past few days.
By the time Dan had picked the little Brown's name, the flitter had fallen asleep on his hand. Moving him into a more comfortable position for the both of them, Daniel scratched the creature's eye ridges and proclaimed, "I shall call you Ruski."

J'kent studied the little firelizard atchling in his harms, wondering what he woould name the little thing. He just sat there watching as the little thing slept on. After a few minutes, he became aware of a rune-like pattern on the flit's back and his flimsy wings.
He decided what the little blue thing in his hands would be named. Some take days, maybe even weeks, but no, we dragonmen take only minutes! he thought ruefully. "I'll name you Rune," he murmured quietly.
((Finally, I have figured out some sort of name!!!!!))

Loren hesitated, coaxing the green onto the scale. "I think Ivy is a good name," she said, after a moment.
Naming something green after a plant made a certain amount of sense. Had the firelizard been male, she had had a different name in mind, but Ivy was too *pretty* for a more masculine name. "Do I need to take measurements as she grows?"
Obviously they were recording for records...presumably for the veterinarians or...hrm. The dragons were intelligent, would you call those who tended to them doctors? Like as not on Pern it was a specific profession, given the importance of the flying beasts. And the special care they needed.

"Ill be measuring them every few months." Faizah said. She smiled at Loren as she took the length and weight measurements. "8 inches. Normal sized green. Ivy sounds like a wonderful name as well." Faizah finished writing down what she needed, then headed over to J'kent.
"What have you decided to name him?"

J'kent looked up from the two sleeping flits and grinned. "I have indeed Weyrwoman, and his name is Runegenette mcurdy." he yawned widely, and sheepishly added that "Marith woke me up after I had finally gotten some sleep. either that, or these two lazy things are sleeping deep enough to make me want to go and crawl into a nice warm bed somewhere. What can a dragonman do?" The last sentence was said sarcastically, somewhat teasingly, though it was directed mostly at His Marith, Dust, and the young Rune.
Snowfire popped into view of the eggs at that time, watching the eggs curiously. He had seen eggs hatch before of course, but not here in HisLyrah's and HisBigKyrinth's new home. He was curious, and nosed sneakily toward the eggs.

Despite the hatching being half over, there were still some people who were hurrying to reach the hatching sands. Moreover, soon after Weyrwoman Faizah left to measure a different flit, the egg of one of the new arrivals had hatched into a brown. So far, there were six hatched flits and, looking on the mound and around her, Lesla counted five eggs that were yet unhatched.
Lesla eyed the eggs that were still on the ground as she wondered when those eggs would visibly hatch. Looking over her shoulder at a sleeping Zeus, she wondered again if she should leave. But looking back to her Green, she knew that she couldn't leave since Houkath seemed determined to see the whole thing through.
She sighed innwardly as she now started to feel just a tad hungry herself. After all, she had woken up early to chop up some meat for Houkath and then there was the hatching and having to haul a sleeping Houkath all the here in the hatching Sands from their weyr in the second level. Her weyr was still a bit messy but Lesla figured they might need to make another move once Houkath had grown more into her adult size.
Houkath was getting bored watching the flit eggs and waiting for them to hatch. She wondered what needed to be done to make the eggs hatch faster but being deaf, she didn't hear and didn't know that the nearby flits and dragons were all humming and encouraging the flits still within their eggs to hatch. She just saw them as having their mouths open letting flies in for all she knew. So, she ignored the others and watched the eggs daring to approach one and lightly nudge it as if to say to the flit inside the egg, 'Hurry up and hatch already. Everyone is waiting to meet you...' But Houkath didn't really nudge the egg and more like breathed on it as if she was whispering to the occupant inside the egg.
Seichou just remain where he was still lending his voice to the humming with the other flits and dragons that were currently present at the Hatching Sands. Like Houkath, he wondered when the rest of his little brothers and sisters would hatch and joined the rest of them that were gathered around the mound of eggs. He looked once to His and felt proud that his managed to Impress a Bronze. Granted the Bronze seemed like a very bossy Gold for now, but he was sure that His would discipline the Bronze, whom His named Zeus, soon enough.

Suddenly it seemed as if every unhatched egg decided to hatch at the same time.
The single gold egg nearest to Reyna shattered her shell and erupted suddenly onto the sands. She stodd wobbly on her legs, spreading her wings out to dry them, before making her way to ... (I will edit this once Momo tells me which character gets the gold.)
An egg that was slightly away from the others shook for more than a minute before a little green finally popped out of it. She looked once around at the chaos of the hatching. Then her rainbow swirling eyes focused on one person off to the side. With single minded determination she made her way to him. When she reached him she clawed her way up the leg of his pants until she was perched on his shoulder, chirping for the food she knew was there. (Shinji)
The egg that A'shane was holding fractured abrubtly. When the egg shell flaked away a dark blue was seen. He turned about in a circle a few times before he gazed at A'shane. The blue opened his mouth and squawked, demanding to be fed.
One egg, surrounded on all sides by the shards of it's clutch mates, rocked violently onto it's side. The egg continued to thrash about until a hole appeared. The hole revealed another green. She looked about before winging her way unsteadily over to one of the bystanders. This one was a small child, but the green landed on the child's shoulder anyway. Her rainbow swirling eyes looked at the girl before she gave a small chirp in a request for food. (Caevaniara)
The last egg, closest to Brown Spock, wasn't waiting about another minute. A little brown head poked out of the egg shell, then quickly followed by the rest of his body. He stood there, looking bewildered for a moment, before he moved. (Next person to post in here will get this little brown. Except those who have already Impressed baby flitters.)

"Ah, hello Rafael. Nice to see you could make it."
Rafael politely dipped his head in return. "Thank you. A little birdy told me that there was a flitter clutch, and I might as well. It'd be nice to watch one grow up, though I guess I wouldn't want one, myself. Might be a hassle..." the historian muttered, trailing off as the hatching started. He stood off to the side, not really reaching out to any of the eggs or residents standing around the fire lizard clutch. And gold Reyna looked to be proud of her eggs. The German offered the tiny queen a smile, even if she wasn't paying attention. Children was always something to be proud of.
Kinda made Rafael wonder about his own family. Maybe he should settle down with a family of his own... Rafael wondered as he watched the eggs hatch. He absentmindedly watched the proceedings, getting a bit uncomfortable on the hot sands, but said nothing. Spacing out, Rafael just barely registered that the event that was going on. He saw the colors, and the people, but no names or words made it to his ears. It was just a marvelous thing to watch happen...
As the hatching neared to a close, Rafael made his way around the various residents of various ages, offering each his congratulations on bonding to such a wondrous creature. "Congrats. She's a lovely green. Congrats. What a nice-looking brown. Congrats to you--she's going to be a handful!" the historian commented as he wove his way around the spectators. He counted four greens, three blues, two browns, one bronze, and one gold. Not a bad clutch at all. "And congrats to you as well, Gold Reyna," Rafael said, reaching out to pet the flitter's head gingerly.
"Oh, except for that poor little brown," he noticed, looking up from stroking Reyna's head to see the brown who hatched last, and moved around with no one particular in mind. "I'm sure someone great will take him in," Rafael assured the gold, nodding. "He's very beautiful."

The brown heard someone speak and then narrowed in on the strange voice. After identifying the owner of the voice he flew right over to the man. Reyna chirped at the small brown with the whirling rainbow eyes. Faizah smiled as she spoke. "They really arent all that bad. Hobbs is but hes only one firelizard." As she spoke Faizah offered the historian a bowl of meat.
