Lanrhakah watched as the eggs began to crack. her friend Natan had impressed a cute brown dragonette. she would go over and congratulate him later.
Maybe... hopefully... she'd walk over with a dragonette of her own. Struggling to bottle up her nerves, to try and exert a calmness that might help a dragonette pick her, she watched a pale, near-white blue impress one of the male candidates.
She wondered if blues chose girls at all... seeing as greens chose guys all the time, it seemed, it would make sense that some blues would choose girls. But she would wait and see. On the whole, she wanted a female dragon more than a male.
she absently wondered if the television had been left on in the common room, then snapped her attention back to the hatching, rocking eggs with a snort. Why in the world was she worrying about the TV?!
She clapped along with everyone else for the new blue weyrling. She thought that his blue was quite cute.

Alex and Eturynth When Crucith rose from her somewhat protective perch above her eggs, Alex knew that she would be very lucky to be left alone unscathed after how she had been treating her. I suppose I'll have to be more careful now that Eturynth Impressed me, she mused, forgetting temporairily that she was intimately linked with the pale dragonet now. Why? she demanded in response, haughtily. She's not nearly as beautiful as I am. Right? What male will want her now that I'm h- She stopped as the full grown Green stopped before the pair, snarling and baring the seemingly ill-kept teeth. They were, after all a horrible yellow color. She demanded respect? Hm. That wasn't something that Alex could easily give. She just looked at her, easily meeting her angry red eyes. But then another egg hatched behind her, revealing a blue as pale as Eturynth, but not nearly as beautiful in Alex's eyes. After a last demand of respect, she turned away, but then seemed to think better of it as her young, newly hatched daughter strode past her to view momentarily the going ons. She snapped her fangs at her as she attempted to return to Alex, saying That blue Impressed a boy that isn't nearly good enough for you, but can we go an- She broke off with a shrill squeak before cowering in the sand as her dam left them be. Rushing forward to embrace the scared dragonet, Alex looked toward Crucith's retreating bulk and the smirking greenrider that could only be Hers, the promise of revenge in her eyes. "Sorry, you demented b%(*!, but respect isn't something I like to give anyone." Hugging the small hatchling to her, she stroked her moist hide, sending soothing thoughts to her. Funnily, most of them were of different dragons around the Weyr that Eturynth might enjoy flirting with as well as some of the men that had caught her own eye as potential 'playthings.' For once, that advide the bronzeweyrling had given her actually worked. Within moments, the dragons and men were being rated, much as Alex might have done with any of her many friends in Huntsville. Darling, I believe you were planning on eating....? Alex hinted, pulling away from the flow of thoughts that threatenned to keep her thinking men for the rest of the day. Oh, yes! I am so horribly hungry. If I don't eat soon, my bones will start showing and my perfect color will go all nasty, and I would die if that happenned! There was something about her that Alex just loved.H'vas and Cherath When Brynath rose toward their ledge, Cherath bugled a quiet greeting to her friend. Mine, Hy'ka wants to speak with you, she relayed to her rider in a rather singsong, teasing voice, her eyes whirling an amused shade. From where he sat, the Greenrider stuck his tongue out at her. His eyes glowed at the thought of the Weyrling that had caught his eye. He hadn't seen much of him lately, but he knew all about Brynath's recent Flight and the happennings afterward. The handsome man watched with increasing excitement. However, he was sorely dissappointed and hurt when his, ah, friend seemed so awkward nd didn't even try to sit next to or near him. He frowned before smoothing his face over, erasing it of his inner emotions. If he could have, he would have blocked it from Cherath, but that was a hopeless cause. They watched in silence for a few minutes, waiting for something, anything to happen, the entire time a tension in the air kept increasing. H'vas finally decided to stand beside Cherath were she lay, rubbing her neck aimlessly. Brittany Copeland Brittany continued to think of all the stories she could base off these dragons, even as she stepped closer rather awkwardly to the two clutches. She noticed how most of the other Candidates were clustered closer to the darker green dragon, not the lighter one. After a moment, she saw one of the many reasons why. The light green stepped closer to a newly hatched pair, a pale whitish colored dragon and a stunning girl about her own age. Snapping and snarling, she could have killed the two easily. But she didn't. More and more hatchlings were hatching every minute, or a that's what it seemed like. Again she wondered what color her hatching would be, if she even - what was the word F'lar had used....Imprinted? Impressed? - one herself.

The Green hatchling was undaunted as Crucith had tried to shoo herself away from that side of the hatching sands. But she had a purpose for being there. She was just being nosy, although true, she had stopped to watch that brown hatchling hatch from his eggs. But he seemed to tired that ignoring Crucith's warning to go away, approached the brown in concern. You okay? How come you're not looking for Yours? the Green asked the brown a tad worried that he might choose to go between if he didn't start looking for His. The brown struggled to open his eyes, he was so exhausted that he didn't even feel the rumbling of his stomach. His eyes were a mad swirling red though, evidence of his hunger. In response to the Green he said, Too tired to look. But I can feel Mine here. They'll come find me if I can't find them. At that, he managed to sit up from his position and surveyed his surrounding. As the Brown did so, the Green also made a survey of her surroundings, it was then that she felt Hers. With a glad shout, she bounded to Hers, bowling over some candidates that weren't fast enough to get out of the way. Most were unharmed but a few received some scratches as the dragon hatchling obliviously plowed through the candidates to get to Hers. Green Matrith 045305 (Main) BEF4BF (Marking)"Motherly, Protective, Talkative, Nosy" - Hatchling Size: Four Feet Long - Adult Size: Twenty-two Feet Long - Markings: Shall like shape covering shoulders - Impressed to: R'yew (Formerly Ruyewnl Pern NPC Candidate) Mine, I finally found you! I do apologize for not looking for you earlier, but I was worried about Iaruth. You do forgive your Matrith, don't you, R'yewMine? Matrith asked Hers with an imploring voice. Her eyes a swirl of rainbow colors. Ruyewnl wasn't really looking forward to Impressing hatchlings from what Pern viewed were defect dragons. She certainly wasn't expecting a Green Hatchling from this Hatching to choose to Impress to her. But the moment that their eyes had locked with each other, Ruyewnl knew that she would not have chosen any other dragon but Matrith. However, she got confused when her dragonet had called her by a different name. "Of course I forgive you, Matrith. But R'yew? Why call me by that name?" Ruyewnl asked her Green. Matrith was happy that Hers didn't seem to mind that she had been tardy in finding her. The question regarding the name was easily answered, Ruyewnl is a mouthful to say. Besides, I like the sound of R'yew better than Ruyewnl, don't you, Mine?Ruyewnl... or R'yew as she started to think of herself, just shook her head at her dragon's preference and readily agreed with her dragon's assessment of her name. "Fine, you can call me R'yew." After a pause she continued with, "Why don't we get you something to eat? I'm sure you must be starving." R'yew told her Green as she led the Green hatchling away to were the food was. At the mention of food, Matrith finally focused on herself and she indeed was hungry. With a happy bound after Hers, she never even looked back at the brown hatchling, forgotten at her need to be fed.
Brown Iaruth (b15a31)"Wise, Boring, Reclusive" - Hatchling Size: ?? - Adult Size: ?? - Markings: None - Impressed to: Sarah One of the candidates that got injured as the Green hatchling passed was Sarah. When she got injured, the Brown hatchling got anxious, for that particular candidate was His. He made his way towards His in a bit of hurry all eyes concentrated on His. Mine, are you okay? he asked as he assessed her injury. Say something, SarahMine! Your Iaruth is getting worried. Iaruth said his eyes while mostly a swirl of rainbow colors, were also gathering a smattering more of the yellow color of worry.

Loren let out a breath. The brown had finally got up...and the green had moved, although she'd bowled some Candidates over.
She tensed at that...glad she was not in that group...and she saw the brown nudging one of them, apparently concerned. She would not have minded that brown...not at all, but it was not to be. The blue-white had also Impressed, to the large cowboy type guy she'd seen around.
Well. There were eggs left. As long as there were eggs left, there was hope that she would Impress today. If she did not, it did seem as if there were plenty of fertile female dragons who could give her her partner. She glanced over at those fortunate enough to have been chosen.
Their faces did make her envious and nervous...they all seemed completely happy, even those who had Impressed the so-called 'low status' dragons. She had made up her mind not to care about that.
So. What would Hatch next? She scanned the two clutches, trying to guess which egg would be the next to break open and spill a dragon to the hot sands...the thought of the heat reminded her how hot her feet were. She tried shifting position, but it did not help.
No *wonder* they made the Candidates wear white.

Candidate Eric Gate
It would have been best if he hadn't been as far away as possible from everything really. He hadn't felt like dinner as he was in one of his moods again and so he'd gone to take a walk around the big flat area they kept calling the bowl [though it was a silly name in his opinion] before it got too dark.
Of course he'd made it to the point exactly perfectly far away from the hatching sands at the exact moment he heard the loud calling of the dragons. He'd been confused for a time until he'd realized that that meant the eggs were hatching.
Ohdamn. The eggs. He'd borken into a dead run and booked it across the field [the fastest way to his room] and scrambling up the hallways and stairs. He could already see a few of the others making their way to the sands and dragons across the compund were flocking to the hot pit of sand to watch.
Oh he was going to be late. great way to make an impression. Heh. Even he had to laugh at the unintentional pun. And then he was throwing the robe and sandals on over his jeans [it wasn't worth it to try to change fully as he was late enough already] and running for the sands.
And oh holy DAMN they were bigger than he'd thought. He skidded to a halt outside the candidate's entrance and stared for a moment enthralled by the fantastic size of all the dragons. The one he could see was a huge dark brown [S-something. Seeth, right. He was the father of the snappy green Crucith's clutch. Ah. All these names were confusing. But he'd at least hammered the egg's parents into his head.]
But he found himself utterly terrified. He hung back significantly. He was almost too scared to trust in the thought that the dragons wouldn't hurt anyone. He greeted the females as well as he could manage for trying to avoid their notice but as the baby dragons emerged and found their partners his fear began to subside.
Eventually he moved forward and watched a deep green dragon find a boy from that other world as her own. He eyed Crucith carefully, edging to keep away from her but determined not to show fear. [He was half afraid she'd see disrespect and half afraid she'd try to eat him. Silly he knew but it worried him all the same.]
Amy and Blue Tardith
"-o that!" Amy's voice rang clear just outside the sands as Tardith appeared frokm between with a flash and a chill breeze. The blue despite having very little facial range still managed to look sheepish.
We are late, aren't we? The blue said as he landed and Amy slid from his shoulder. She shook her head and disloged drops of water onto him as her hair was still wet from her post dinner shower she'd cut off to get here.
"Yes, we are. I told you going between is too dangerous! I-" She cut herself off and a warm smile lit her face at the sight of a young man and a pale blue dragon who had obviously just made Impression. "Oh nevermind. We will discuss it later. I can't stand to be cross at a hatching."
The blue rumbled happily and lowered his head and she lightly kisses his cheek before he made his way to a high ledge to watch. He fire lizard screeched at her angrily annoyed by her tardyness though he quickly went back to his contented hum as he landed on her head.

((OHMYGOD It keeps eating my post.))
Miyuki and Fayeth and Shinji and Wrath The Hatching sands were of course full. Miyuki and Shinji had immediately dropped everything to see the hatching, and the siblings were resting on the back of gold Fayeth. Wrath was in his weyr, gleaning images of the hatching from his and the two green firelizards that belonged to his beloved Shinjiro.
Miyuki made happy noises as baby dragons hatched, and the gold underneath her watched with a calm unease. Hatchings were good, but they made her nervous. Catching her thoughts, Miyuki reassured her dragon that even the cutest of baby greens couldn't hold up to Fayeth's queenly majesty.
~~~~ K'ryn and Synth The greenrider was leaning lazily against a wall, ahnds in his pockets, Behind him, his ghost-pale green huddled in the shade of an overhanging ledge. She'd braved the evening light to see the green's clutches hatch. It always almost bothered her how she had chewed firestone before she had had an opportunity to fly and have a clutch herself, but at the same time...she glanced at the pair of browns, one light, one dark, just like the greens. They were certainly acting the part of dutiful fathers. She snorted and decided it would be too tedious to remain loyal to one male for that long. Even it he did father her children...
~~~~ Kye and Kyesk and Riley and Risk
The two wherhandlers hadn't actually intended on coming to the hatching, but the loud baying of their whers as the bronze and the brown announced the forthcoming dragon hatchlings had woken them. Since they knew it would be useless to go back to sleep with the dragons, the whers, and all the flirelizards siniging the new life in, (and because Riley had never seen a hatching before) they had decided to go watch.
Still, it was fun. Kye couldn't help but smile at the sheer excitement in Riley's eyes as the blonde teenager applauded the impression of a pale green dragon to an equally lovely and pretty young woman.
~~~~ A'shan and Azulith
The bluerider swept a stray strand of hair from his face. He had chosen to hang back from the majority of the crowd, preferring his solitude. He hadn't been keen on coming, but Azulith had so clearly been excited that the man hadn't had the heart to deny the blue anything.
Even without the empathing bond most rider-dragon pairs shared, A'shan could see the happy swirls of blue and teal in his dragon's eyes and knew he wouldn't ever have not come. Besides, he'd promised someone he'd be there for moral support...
Where was that thrice-damned girl?
~~~~ Candidate Lorelei and Co.
Lorelei was...nowhere to be found. Hell, even her pack of fire lizards couldn't have told you. All six of the crazy little creatures were by the sands, crooning their tiny hearts out for the dragon babies. Only one person knew where the so-called candidate was...Lorelei herself.
And currently, the Aussie woman was bolting up a flight of stairs, limping slightly. She's tripped on the hem of the flowing white robe they'd told her tow wear and banged up her leg pretty badly. One of the various doctor-types had said she had probably twisted her knee badly, but the headstong woman Lorelei was had just sworn at him and limped along the wall.
The hatching was far more important than something like a bad knee.
When she finally made it to the sands, she was lucky enough to trip again, this time into the arms of the oh-so-cheerful A'shan. He'd just raised an eyebrow at her, and gestured to the sands. Idiot man.
Still, Lorelei had stumbled onto the scorching-hot sands with little effort, stopping behind where most of the Pernese candidates were gathered. She executed a sloppy bow, mostly because she nearly fell once again, but the deep bow was unmistakably a gesture of utmost respect.
Now hopefully the dragons didn't cound on tardiness...

Gregory excitedly watched as another of Jadavath's clutch Impressed. So far both of the young dragonets had Impressed Pern candidates, but Gregory was hopeful that some would choose a Rocky candidate. It would be nice to see what kind of dragon Jadavath had brought into the world. Looking up at L'gar's face, Gregory tried to read the older man's reactions. L'gar had probably attended multiple hatchings. This probably wasn't even his first time watching his dragon's young hatch and Impress. There was such a monumental difference in experience between the two. Gregory couldn't help but feel a little small. Being more than a foot shorter then L'gar didn't help either. --- Jadavath crooned at the hatchlings, both hers and Crucith's. The Green felt pity for the younglings of her fellow Green. It didn't appear that their mother was encouraging them at all. Crucith had even gone so far as to snap at one of her children after the little one had Impressed. The only time Jadavath had stopped her motherly adoration was when Crucith seemed to threaten her child. If the sadistic Green so much as growled at her children Jadavath would show her just what her teeth and claws could do. The other dragon's clutch had come early, and it's mother had no right to be testy. Snuggling Zedorath's hide briefly, Jadavath let the Brown know her worry about Crucith. --- As its mother and her rider were preoccupied with their own thoughts, one large egg began to crack and split. It's tiny frame rocked as the dragonet inside scrabbled and tore at the hard shell encasing it. Finally with one final attempt the hatchling shattered the shell and broke free in an impressive display of aggression and bragger. It's wings unfurled and the large Brown flexed and shook them. After he had sufficiently dried off some, the Brown hatchling looked around at all the candidates present. It knew its was there, but for some reason the Brown couldn't find him. After a moment, the Brown spotted His hanging towards the back and a good deal away from the Brown. Why are you so far away Mine? Can't you see your Desuuth wants you closer? Eric, Mine, are you listening? Come get your Desuuth and take me to food. My hunger claws at me.Impatient the Brown stalked some of the way towards His. His whole body radiating his impatience and fierce temper. I did not choose a stupid boy for Mine. Why haven't you come? Loren was starting to wonder, idly, if she was actually going to get a dragon today. Maybe she was not.
Maybe she would have to wait until the next female clutched. It should not be that long, she told herself. And there were still eggs left. She shook her head.
Nerves had settled back into her stomach, but her attention was caught and held by the newest brown. Now that was a dragon she might have been able to do well with, but he had already chosen...not her...he was heading for a boy who was hiding in the back, behind the other Candidates. She made sure she was not in his way. They seemed to hatch with pretty sharp claws already equipped.
The sands were getting hotter. Part of her wished it was over already, even if that meant she was one of those left without a dragon, just so she could go somewhere cool. She wanted to go out of the cavern and jump in the snow...and she could not imagine how some of the other Candidates, more accustomed to colder climes than she, were feeling.
But she would not leave. Not until there was nothing left but pieces of egg shell that might grind down to become part of the Sands. She wondered if some of the Pernese hatching grounds had Sands made out of a high proportion of egg shell.
--
Tad was not even paying attention to the rest of the hatching. He had a concern that would be his first concern, his primary worry, for the rest of his life now. The pale blue, Kimath, had settled into a rhythm of eating.
He could feel the dragon's mind and emotions...no, it was NOTHING like anything he had imagined, although he had honestly thought they were smarter. The thoughts that drifted across their link were simple ones. The way the meat tasted was a big one.
"Once you're full, I think I need to find somewhere I can wash you off." The hatchling was covered in bits of yoke remnant and bits of sand. He needed a bath.
Tad probably needed one himself, but definitely not as badly as Kimath did. "You're dirty."
Kimath looked along the length of himself for a moment and then kind of wing-shrugged, as if he did not really care about being dirty. Well, Tad did. You didn't ride a poorly groomed horse. He was not going to be seen anywhere with a poorly groomed dragon.

No sooner had the brown hatched did a faint scrabbling come from one of Crucith's eggs. Eagerness radiated from the creamy shell, and the dragonet inside frantically scratched at it's pearly white prison. A small hole opened up near the top of the egg, and hardening talons chipped away at the edges, widening the opening in the shell. It growled lowly, mimicking it's mother, and clawing at the eggshell. A bright green forearm pushed it way out of the egg, only to slip back in and paw a bit more at the shell. The dragonet huffed, exhaling forcefully and stuck her snout out of the gap. Once satisfied with her work, the green tried to pull herself further out of the egg. She got her head, neck, and forelegs out of the shell before getting frustrated. The dragonet hissed, and angrily pushed at the eggshell that was still holding together. She bent over, her wedge-shaped head lowering to lick at the egg. It was being annoying, keeping her in. That would not do. The green wiggled in place, using her tiny bulk against the shell to snap it, break off more pieces. As if trying to defy her creamy casing, the hatchling reached down and starting biting at the sharp, jagged edges of the shell. She continued to nip at the edges, in quick succession, breaking off more pieces until she was satisfied with the opening, and allowed herself go daintily crawl out. Pulling herself out of the egg, the green stood on the warm sands, and showed her egg that she meant business by giving it a kick with her hind leg. Now that that was finished, the green lifted her nose into the air, and flicked out her tongue. She walked in a tight circle around the remains of her egg, her eyes swirling blue and orange. Pausing suddenly, the green crouched down, and prowled behind the eggshell that once held her. I finished with the egg, though it was a pain. Now I'm coming to find you, mine! she said, a draconic grin spreading on her muzzle. Her green tongue fell out of her mouth in a near-human display of pondering, and the dragonet stalked past the shell and towards the candidates surrounding the two clutches. However, she went about it in an interesting way, keeping to the outside, and trying to locate her bonded that way. Her path taking her past a few of the eggs near the outside, the green eyed each one with an interesting look. I'm coming for you! the hatchling happily declared, I'm coming to find you, and when I do--hey! Watch it! Hissing and jumping back, the green glared at an egg that rolled off its mound of sand. Don't do that, got it? Now then, don't hide from me, Lanrhakah, because I'll find you anyway. I'm good at that. The green's eyes turned rainbow in colors, as the Impress was made, but the hatchling had other plans, still stalking around the outside of the hatching sands, on her way to her bonded. Once she had found her, like a feline, she pounced forward, aiming to knock the girl to the ground. Green Snith Quick, Snappy, Sneaky No Markings Impresses Lanrhakah (mimiheart) Hex Code: #8abd6b

Lanrhakah watched as the brown that had been weak before impressed, adn the greenling as well. She buryed dher feet in the hot sand and tryed not to bet impatient. That would not help.
Maybe her thus-far not imrpessing had to do with where she was standing? Lanrie moved aroundd a little. As she moved, another of crucith's eggs hatched, with much amusing anger at the egg, the green hatched, and Lanrie's eyes went to the little one.
And then she didn't look away. Now then, don't hide from me, Lanrhakah, because I'll find you anyway. I'm good at that She heard in her mind. Immediately, Lanrie realized that the greenling had Chosen HER. As she began to realize this, and a grin formed on her pale face, Snith decided to run at her and pounce on her , cat-style.
See, Mine. I told you i would find you. I woud've beeen quicker if not for that shell! Snith said to Lanrie.
Snith... I'm so happy you chose me! Are you hungry? she asked her dragon. Snith snuffled for a moment, still siting on top of Lanrhakah's stomach. Making up her mind, the green slid off. Yes. I am simply ravenous! But come on; if you're bringing me to food, then you gotta get up! the green said quickly as lanrie got up from the sand. "snith, will you--" the green hop-skipped on ahead without her, and she had to jog to keep up.
chuckling, she *led* snith to the food.

And...another green, and another of the girls no longer a Candidate. Not that Loren thought she would have wanted that one.
Too hyper.
WAY too hyper. It even pounced its poor rider. "That dragon," she said to nobody in particular, "Had better not keep doing that...she'll be too big soon."
Which would be worse than the puppy that grew into a 120 pound dog and still thought it could sit in its owner's lap. Well.
Eggs left? Yes...still eggs left, and lots of pieces of shell, and the group of weyrlings...that was the term they used for the trainees...growing even bigger. Maybe...no. Being at the back did not seem to make your chances of Impressing significantly less, based off of the pattern so far.
Compatible personalities. Maybe she wasn't compatible with any of them...that had to be it. There wasn't a dragon that was enough *like* her here yet. She knew it wasn't her size or her coloring or her Earthian origins.
No. They just didn't think she was *suitable*.

Sarah was about to go to the brown to see if he was alright when a green bowled her over. Sharp claws dug into her sides and arms, but not enough to cause significant damage. A few scars max, and some discomfort at first. When the green was past Sarah clutched her side and struggled into a sitting position. She vaguely noticed the brown was up and moving before a voice was in her mind, asking if she was okay. The voice was male, and referred to itself as Iaruth. "Im fine, just a little cut up, Iaruth." Sarah said calmly. She then noticed the brown was in front of her, his eyes whirling the rainbow colors of Impression. Sarah was suddenly on her feet, disbelief in her eyes. Her, Impress a brown! She smiled at him and lowered her hand to his head. "Lets get you something to eat, Iaruth." One of Cruciths eggs began to gently rock, pausing often as if the hatchling within was in no hurry. Hairine fractures appeared on the shell, at the same time  an egg next to it rolled over and nearly bumped into the prowling green. From that egg hatched a blue, who fell headfirst into the sands. He tried to rise to his feet, but somehow became tangled in his own tail and wings. Help me, mine! K'astamine! Help your Perarth! The little hatchling called out, unsure where his was. Eric tried to stay out of the way- he really did. Even though he knew it wasn't the best idea he was incredibly leery of the mothers especially after the scarred-up green had snapped at one of her children.
The darker green seemed far more sensible. And not so bitchy. Eric folded his arms and began to relax the slightest bit watching as some of the other eggs began to crack and wobbble. One even split open in a spectacular fashion. A warm brown dragon tumbled out, screeching and making a very powerful display of himself. Eric couldn't hide the tiny smile. The dragon was gutsy; and he liked that.
When the brown began to search the other boys and girls Eric stayed where he was. The dragonling stretched it's wings and began to move towards the candidates with a purposeful stalking gait. Why are you so far away Mine? Can't you see your Desuuth wants you closer? Eric hid a laugh behind one hand as the dragon bossily demanded his partner. Whoever the not so little dragon picked was in for a rough time. The brown was inspecting each of the candidates impatiently and moving amongst them. It seemed to pause a second as if searching for something it knew was there but couldn't find. Eric, Mine, are you listening? Come get your Desuuth and take me to food. My hunger claws at me.
Then Eric went pale. The brown was marching towards him? He took a step back out of surprise. He was of course stunned by the abrupt connection as he managed to lock eyes with the dragon and a surge of energy flooded through him and he lost all touch with the outside world. All he could hear was an impatient and very demanding male voice ordering him to get his act together amongst a rainbow of emotions and color.
I did not choose a stupid boy for Mine. Why haven't you come? Do you not want your Dessuth? Eirc stumbled forwards meeting the brown halfway and dropping to one knee. The dragon sat back and regarded him cooly. It's tail lashed in the sand and he growled. "Don't call me stupid." Eric said gently picking a shard of eggshell from the dragon's forehead. "Of course I want you, Desuuth. How could I NOT want such a bold guy like you? You outshine everyone else here by lightyears." The brown closed his eyes for just a moment as Eric ran his hand along the long neck and scratched at the itchy spot just between his wings.
You took too long, Eric! Now feed me. I am starving. Desuuth stamped one foot in the sands demandingly and took Eric's sleeve in his teeth. He pulled Eric along for a few steps until the boy carefully turned him around and got him pointed to the food. "Eat up, me hearties." He said sarcastically. The brown snorted and opened his mouth. Eric rolled his eyes and began to feed the demanding creature. Still it was a loving look in Eric's eyes as he watched the ravenous dragon devour his first meal.

Candidate Lorelei
Lorelei was stunned by the ...well, EVERYTHING. The dragons were surrounding the place, and it seemed as if every fire lizard in the entire Weyr was in attendance. She had no idea what to do or say.
The little dragons were finding their perfect partners left and right. A powerfuly and proud brown found his way to an orangey-haired boy in the back, and a sweet and playful green found her perfect partner in a young girl with boots in place of the normal sandals. Even now a little blue was searching, and though Lorelei held her breath, it was apparent that he'd chosen someone else.
Sighing, Lorelei snuck a peek at the already made pairings, where newly-made riders were feeding their partners. She couldn't help a slight swell of jealousy, but the sight of six multi-colored pairs of eyes swooping around with the other mini-dragons put a smile back on her face.
So maybe she wouldn't impress, that was fine. She had six crazy creatures to watch after; but still, it was worth a tiny bit of hope?

Loren shifted her weight again. Another blue...it really did seem that just three colors would emerge from these eggs, although saying that did no justice to the variation in shade that she could see...although most so far had tended pale. Tad's blue was almost white and one of the greens was not much darker.
The nerves actually started to fade. She had accepted, now, the fact that she might not Impress this time. She looked up, and saw a whole bunch of firelizards...and Ivy was with them. Their high hums joined the deeper ones from the dragons as they dived around each other.
Clearly *they* were enjoying the occasion...and at least Ivy was tiring herself out. She was quiet for a green...hrm. Loren wondered if she would get a green dragon. She glanced over at Lorelei, who seemed to be struggling to locate a smile in her inventory of expressions.
The same worries as Loren, perhaps. That despite all of these eggs, there would be no dragon for her this day. She almost saw Eric's brown as the one who got away...but no.
He would have chosen her if he had really been right for her, surely.

Brittany Copeland More and more eggs were hatching every minute it seemed, and more and more kids were leaving the hot area that they were all huddled in. What was she supposed to do? Just stand there? Wait and see if she got lucky? That wasn't like her, at least not usually. Brown ones, blue ones, green ones. Some bold and some so pale you might mistake them for white. Were there white dragons? No....she didn't - wait, hadn't there been one there when she had first arrived here? Yeah, there had been! So, blue, brown, green, gold, white. Oh, and bronze. Were there any other colors....? she didn't think so. But who was she to say. She'd only known about much of this for a few days. So. The bookworm, the famous Brittany Copeland that had hardly any friends in Huntsville save for Ashy and Ashley, the one that passed every class with flying colors, was ultimately being turned down. By a dragon. Her beloved books coming true. Huh. Figures. So. If she did Impress - isn't that what F'lar had called it? - what would she Impress? She had absolutely no clue whatsoever. It sucked too. She'd like some sort of futuristic plans! The government had better pay for her college. She had been planning on getting a masters in the very least. J'kent and Marith More and more of Rocky's Candidates exitted the Sands beside their newly Impressed dragonets. He beamed at each and every one of them, whether from Pern or Earth, though he saved his biggest smiles for the Earthians, seeing as they were his first - ah, graduated? - class here in Rocky. It seemed all of Crucith's clutch had come out abnormally pale. It seemed as if the world had decided to mock Seeth's darker color in favor of Crucith's own paler shades. We should have guessed, he commented to Marith, that even her eggs would be too stubborn to accept outside influence in that regard. She chuckled in response, shooing Rune away from where the tiny, young flit was pestering Dust who, as per usual, was dozing between her headknobs. Sennia and Seeth Seeth had settled back into the sand once the now weyrling girl had commended her behavior enough to bow to Crucith, but that wasn't before making it clear how much she had put the infuriated green into her contempt. What was more, it was one of their own children, a pale green that went of he verge of white, had Impressed to the girl. Even she showed contempt for her dam and sire. He would have flown at the two then and there, but Crucith had, as usual, beat him to it. After the scene he witnessed between the two, he was making a horrible coughing sound, sounding as if he had begun choking. Sennia had stopped from her pacing and was looking at him strangely, an almost rebuking frown on her face. The brown was laughing. Laughing at whom was hard to tell. Was he laughing at Crucith, or the green and weyrling? One? The other? Both? The strong young woman winced slighty as she thought of exactly how Crucith might react to that. What was worse was the muttered comment the girl had made once Crucith had settled down once more. Of course, it nearly sent the sinisterly laughing brown into convulsions. In response, he growled to her and the green to Be careful, hatchlings. You don't understand withwhom you're playing with or exactly how dangerous the game is![/color

The slightly rocking egg stopped as if to listen to his brother. After a few moments it started rocking again, cracks appearing. The egg remained intact, however. Another egg nearby tumbled from its place and smashed the shell of the gently rcking one. A gorgeous blue emerged in a flurry of sand and shell. The blue took his time getting to his feet, passive to everything else. E seemed to ignore the chaos going on about him. When he was to his feet he looked up at the pale green and dark brown that were his parents. Then he turned to the gathered candidates, looking without choosing. Almost refecting upon the type of partner they could be. Then he trotted over to a girl who seemed to be as reflective as he. Lorenmine? I am Woruth. I am hungry. Take me to eat please.-Woruth (93adbf) "Passive, Listener, Reflective" Impresses Loren (shadowreine) Hex code #93adbf

Oddly, Loren was starting to get tired. They had not been out here that long, but the heat, the nerves, the difficulty of focusing on two clumps of rocking eggs...it must be easier, she thought, if there is only one clutch to worry about.
Eggs cracking all around, though, more and more shards on the sands. She drifted a little...oh, she knew she was supposed to be concentrating on the hatching, on her future. On being...that crack was another egg hatching, she was sure of it. She glanced over. Yup. Another of the blue dragons was on the Sands, the smaller males, the quiet ones. He wasn't as light as the one that had picked the farmboy, nor was he dark.
Somewhere in the middle, in fact, and quite the handsome fellow. He'd do her fine...sure, the brownriders were more likely to get rank and the greens had the fastest flight, but...yeah. This quiet dragon, assessing each of the Candidates in turn...would do her quite well indeed. He seemed to be getting bigger.
No.
Closer. He was coming to check her out.
Lorenmine? I am Woruth. I am hungry. Take me to eat please He simply stood there, regarding her.
Definitely a handsome fellow. Definitely a male, too, that voice... Oddly, it reminded her a little of her father's voice, but without the hint of disappointment he so often seemed to carry within each word he spoke to her. Far from it, in fact...something in his tone made her feel that he, this dragon, considered her to be perfect. "Woruth. A handsome name for a handsome dragon."
A foundation had slid under her, easily, quietly. Her conclusion that he would do seemed to be one with which he was in absolute agreement. Unlike some of the other dragons around here, he looked completely healthy. Wings, in good proportion to his frame, a tail of, as far as she could tell allowing for him being a baby, the right length.
"You," she told him. "Will definitely do." She picked up a piece of meat, carefully offering it to the blue...even baby teeth could hurt fragile human hands, after all.
Do?
"Well, you obviously agree, or you would never have chosen me."

Green Taspoloth Caring, Relaxing, Dreamer No markings Impresses La'as (Formerly Lakoasty, NPC Pern Candidate) Hex Code: #c2e9d4 No sooner had the little blue hatchling from Crucith's side Impressed, another of Crucith's egg, a small one, finally cracked. A hole showing at the top of the shell. A green head poked through although with her color, she almost looked more like mint green to be precise. She rested her head on the shell, relaxing for a bit as her eyes took on her surroundings. After a time, she struggled once more and the crack widened and spread down the eggshell on both sides. As if a knife cut the eggshell in two, the two sides fell gracefully away from the green and she unfurled her wings to dry them as she shook herself getting rid of any egg goo that still clung to her. Folding her wings, she stared at once section of the Candidates. However, no one caught her attention and she swept her head across the Candidates that were lined up before her field of vision. And there, on the other side, a bit farther than she had liked, stood Hers. Stepping out of the eggshell with care, she walked towards Hers her eyes a swirling red indicating her hunger. She stopped in front of a particular male who had been brought to Earth from Pern. Looking up at Hers, her eyes a swirling rainbow of colors, she told him, La'as-Mine, your Taspoloth is very hungry. May I have something to eat please?(( OOC: Faizah has indicated that she might adopt Lakoasty, so I'm not going to add a reaction from Lakoasty to this post.))

[ooc: To H'vas] When the older man didn't say anything in response to Hy'ka's questions, the bluerider didn't hold it against him. After all, they were stupid questions. With a silent groan, Hy'ka buried his face in his hands. Stupid, stupid. Don't make this worse than it needs to be. Shards Hy'ka, you're an idiot. Towering above him, Brynath growled, but clearly he was content with saying nothing and allowing the rider to solve this on his own. "Thanks, Brynath," Hy'ka hissed out of the corner of his mouth. The blue rumbled in reply, and continued to add his humming to the other dragons' song. Raising an eyebrow in curiosity, Hy'ka leaned forward to peek around the blue and green dragons to look at H'vas. Was that... loneliness on his face? Now who could say no to that? "Excuse me, Brynath." Hy'ka stood up, and he carefully picked his way behind the dragon, climbing over the log-like blue tail, and side-stepping around Cherath's. "H'vas." The bluerider came up behind him, slipping to the other side so Hy'ka wasn't squished between the green and her rider. "H'vas," he repeated, now settling in a seat next to the other rider. Though a feeling told him not to, Hy'ka wasn't one to listen to it, and he reached up with an arm, wrapping it around H'vas' shoulders. [ooc: To Sennia/Seeth] Crucith's initial reaction to Seeth's attempt at laughing made her wonder if someone was dying. Oh the fun she would have if that was happening. Without a care for her eggs, the green raised her head to search the stands for the noise. As she pinpointed the noise as Seeth, she had to lift her own lips in response. The girls comment she didn't care much for, but Seeth's reaction was something she could get used to. Mimicking Seeth, Crucith laughed as well, a low, haunting, guttural laugh that could send shivers down anyone's spine. You will watch your back, girl. Impressing one of my children will not save you from me. The green arched her neck like a horse and shifted closer to Seeth. Through the whole proceeding, Z'volm was content with watching. He knew how Crucith would react, and to be honest, it was something he wanted to see. Unfortunately, the weyrling and her dragon escaped without harm. There was a tug at Z'volm's heart when he realized that, but the look on Sennia's face when Seeth moved to threaten the weyrling... That was priceless. Standing up, the rider moved to the railing. He crossed his arms and leaned forward on it. "Sennia... Calm down. He's only being a good father to his disobedient children," the greenrider vouched for the brown. "They only want what's best for their children..." he added with a chuckle. In agreement, Crucith purred. She flicked her forked tail in annoyance at the girl who thought herself higher than Crucith, but calmed down some now that the weyrling was gone. With a croon, the green wrapped her tail around Seeth, becoming affectionately close to the brown, and even lightly nuzzling Seeth's chest. The rapid swirling of her red eyes now slowed to an even pace, also changing to a red-tinted blue color.

Sennia and Seeth Sennia grinned as Z'volm attempted to cover for her brown. Somehow, she fet giddy with happiness. "Yes, I know. What those two seem to think is best for them, that's what I worried about!" She laughed and shook her head, leaning over and placing her elbows on the railing beside him, her amethyst eyes sparkling. Shards, it was hot here! The heat was beginning to get to her as she stood there. After a brief moment of hesitation, she stood up straight and slipped off the thin hoodie that she had been wearing, revealling both her white tank top and scarred arm. Seeth didn't notice. He was too focussed on Crucith and the hatching clutch he had sired. He couldn't care less about the other clutch on the Sands. What mattered was his and Crucith's own, not some prissy, sweet green's that was nice to everybody. As the young weyrling and dragonet disappeared from the Sands, his emancipated laugh turned instead to a sinister chuckle that slowly faded away with his slowly shaking head. He hummed as Crucith snuggled against him. He lifted one threadscored wing and placed it lightly on her, his neck arching to that his head was just above her own. Of course, he left enough weight on himself so that if she suddenly stood again, his own wing wouldn't snap like a dry branch over a fire. If they aren't careful, more than just you will be after their hides, he murmured to Crucith, with another chuckle. H'vas and Cherath H'vas sat finally, his head on his fist. He was half tempted to reach into his pocket and pull out his MP3 Player. But he wouldn't. After all, it wasn't as if he could actually be bored.He heard rather then saw or felt someone coming up behind him. He glanced over at the place where Hy'ka had been standing, and when the young rider wasn't there, he turned just in time to see Hy'ka plop his handsome butt down beside him. Not that he had ever actually seen his butt. He grinned sheepishly as an arm wrapped itself around his shoulders. "well, who could say no to that?" he chuckled, echoing Hy'ka's thoughts. He smiled at his companion and Put one of his own arms around his shoulder.

At this moment, the last of the rocking eggs from Crucith's clutch started to hatch. Among the rest of the eggs nestled in the sands, this one was the only egg that showed signs of hatching at this time. Having no preference for how the dragonet was going to get to the outside world, it began clawing at every surface it could reach in it's shelled prison. Cracks spread across the creamy cage, and pieces chipped off, falling to the sands around the egg. Then, with a soft hiss and a pop, the egg split apart in a diagonal fashion. Delicately, a green hatchling pulled herself out of the egg, the top half of the shell sitting on top of her head like a hat--a very crumbly and fragile hat. Extruding herself from the eggshell, the little female crooned softly, undaunted by her agitated parents. As the crumbling shell on her head shifted with each movement, falling forward over her eyes, the green snorted. She tilted her head forward, dipping her slender neck, and jostled the remains of the egg off of her head. The shell was no longer of her concern, but she felt a compulsive desire to look over herself, just in case. Her head twisting back to let her eyes run down the length of her body, the green obsessed over her still-wet hide. She licked her hide, picking off bits of eggshell, only to frown and try to spit the pieces out, eyes turning to a distressed yellow. It was all over my hide, and now it's all over my tongue... It tastes awful! I can't eat this... she complained to anyone who would listen. A disgusted look graced her features--as much as a draconic face could look disgusted. Looking up from her hide, the green snorted, still trying to get the eggshells off of her tongue. She stalked away from the shell, daintily picking up her feet as if trying to keep them out of the sand. I will look awful with this sand and shell on my hide. I can't have that. Sara, you will fix that, won't you? The brightly-colored dragonet picked her way through the candidates to a certain brown-haired girl. She nosed the girl's leg before sitting promptly down on her haunces. SaraMine, your Skelkineyth is very dirty, and I don't like that. Will you clean me please? My hide can't look like this! I can't meet my clutchmates like this! Please clean my pretty hide.Green Skelkineyth Whiner, Vain, Clean No Markings Impresses Sara (ailedd) Hex Code: #9AD44D
[ooc: To Sennia/Seeth] The brownrider's worry over the dragons' intentions made Z'volm laugh again. "I think it's a perfectly fine idea. Nothing wrong with a little discipline." He chuckling, his laugh mirroring Crucith's. Closing his eyes, the greenrider shook his head, letting his chin rest on his chest. When he opened his eyes again, he noticed Sennia taking off the top layer of her clothing. Z'volm raised an eyebrow, but he said nothing else. She wasn't even remotely attractive to him. He didn't like the females of his race. Feeling Seeth's wing on her back, Crucith hummed, satisfied that the brown would be supporting her in her actions. Good, she threatened in a playful manner, giving Seeth a gentle nudge from her shoulder. As another egg of hers hatched, a picky little green that escaped Crucith's prodding simply because she was in a rare good mood. However, the Crucith did notice the lack of moving eggs now. Is that it? No more of our children? she asked, a hint of worry coming into her voice. [ooc: To H'vas] As the other rider returned Hy'ka's gesture with an arm wrap of his own, Hy'ka grinned. Like that, the gap was crossed, and Hy'ka no longer felt awkward around the older man. "Who could say 'no' to that indeed?" he commented, leaning into the embrace and letting his head rest onf H'vas' shoulder. "What do you think of the hatching so far? Any favorites?" The bluerider smiled. "I particularly like the blues, but I'm not biased." To the side of Cherath, Brynath snorted. Feeling better? I told you talking to him would work. And that wasn't hard at all, was it? The blue lowered his head to look around Cherath at His and H'vas. Brynath's facetted eyes swirled blue-green in imitation of his hide, and showing off his glee. Brynath, shoosh. Don't ruin the moment, Hy'ka prodded, ignoring the blue in favor of turning his attention to the greenrider.

Thaddeus glanced over, momentarily. No, the Hatching was not yet over, with a green having just burst from her shell.
Then he drew all of his attention back to his pale colored Kimath. At least, it did seem that there was nothing physical wrong with him. He had been warned about that...about the possibility of defective dragons. And the possibility of being asked to go to another world to be a fighter.
Well. He could handle whatever life threw at him now he had Kimath. A cold knot formed as he wondered what would happen to him if the dragon died. He released it, not wishing to share that worry with the hatchling...he could feel the dragon's hunger, abating now, and the faint confusion at being out in the world. Surely, this went two ways. Surely, he had to be careful of his thoughts and even his emotions from now on.
--
Loren fed a few more lumps to Woruth, then studied him. She was trying to apply an analytical eye to the dragonet, but it was harder than she had expected.
The bond was...far *more* than she had expected. It was not just 'Woruth wanted to be her partner'...it was more like...maybe now, she understood a little more about how transexuals felt...not wanting to be the other sex but BEING the other sex. He was PART of her in a way she could never have imagined.
Pushing that to one side to assess him was going to be hard. Perhaps she would have to ask somebody else, somebody less biased. Like their trainer.
He was blue. Not a ranking dragon, not a special dragon, but he was HER dragon and that mattered more than anything else.

- Green Xeroxith 244B1D (Main) 81C176 (Marking) "Bold, Fresh, Out-there, Stubborn" - Hatchling Size: Four Feet Long - Adult Size: Twenty-four Feet Long - Markings: Back is a lighter shade in a saddle-back like pattern - Impressed to: S'ion (Formerly Scion, NPC Pernese Candidate) After the last of Crucith's eggs have hatched and Impressed, a small egg from Jadavath's clutch shook violently in its mound of sand. As it shook, fine hairline cracks started to spread every which way in all directions. And with a shatter of eggshells, a dark green hatchling boldly stepped forth, her wings unfurled and quickly searched for Hers, her eyes a swirl of red evidence of her hunger. Hers had been there in front of the other Candidates, and the hatchling stopped in front of the surprised Pernese female Candidate. You are Mine, S'ion. Xeroxith will never let you go now that I've found you. Xeroxith told Hers with her eyes swirling a rainbow of colors. But before the girl could reply, Xeroxith added, And you had better get rid of the notion of going back to Pern. We are staying here on Earth and that's final. Xeroxith informed Hers. Then in a more gentler tone, Xeroxith asked Hers, Now that the formalities are out of the way, would you please feed your Xeroxith? I am starving of hunger. Xeroxith mewed, her eyes gaining more red swirls, as her stomach made a loud rumbling noise. (( OOC: I used the color for her marking so that you can read the text. In addition, I'm not adding a reaction for S'ion since I don't know if anyone would like to adopt her or not.))

~I am going to skip my characters interactions and get straight to the two eggs I have to hatch. I will be scarce until around Thursday of next week due to testing over summer assignments. I should be able to get back into things as soon as the newness of this school year has slowed down some.~Jadavath's eggs seemed overly active. It was as if they were making up for all the eggs of Crucith's that had hatched before them. A small egg was rocking with a slow almost patterned pace, while a slightly larger egg toppled over from the insistent yet rhythmic beating it was sustaining from the inside out. Both eggs began to crack and split at exactly the same time. The smaller egg finally toppled and smashed into the larger one, shattering the shells. As the two eggs collided two graceful forms seemed to emerge in almost perfect sync without any sort of tangle or mishap even though they had hatched on top of the other. Green and Blue both stood side-by-side looking regal and beyond clumsiness. The way they moved also belied their young age because the way they seemed to glide gracefully rather than stumble about as a hatchling should. Only as they got close to the candidates did they part ways and head to their separate bondeds. --- The Green knew exactly which child would be her rider, and she approached without hesitation. Looking up at the small girl, the Green seemed to sigh with her body. My dear Mentari. Why do you look so surprised? Did you not come to a hatching to Impress? Come, let us depart the grainy place and head to food. Your dear Ladeth is so very famished.Gazing up at the young girl, Ladeth bumped her hand lightly. We will make a very fine and refined pair. - Ladeth 217B11 (Main) 0A3303 (Markings) "Refined, Gentle, Graceful, Sarcastic" - Hatchling Size: Four Feet Long - Adult Size: Twenty-one Feet Long - Markings: Circle around right eye with a stripe hanging from the ring down her cheek--- The Blue sauntered through the many candidates that gazed upon him in awe, but he ignored them all. All of them save one. She stood there with an almost fierce determination, and it drew the Blue to her like a moth to a flame. You there. Why do you stand so proud? Is your pride strong? What about your will? Your Jerezeth will expect nothing less than perfection from one I have put my pride in. Lorelei, I have decided to be proud of you for you were chosen by me. That is no small feat.Sitting so that he could gaze imposingly up into her face, Jerezeth studied his new bonded for a moment. Yes, you will do well by me. However I hunger and would appreciate a meal. - Jerezeth 081447 (Main) 364794 (Markings) "Proud, Snobbish, Social, Classy" - Hatchling Size: Four Feet - Adult Size: Twenty-five Feet - Markings: Wing membranes and toes are a different color than the rest of the hide
