IC Date: Jan. 15th, 2012 IC Time: 2:34 a.m. Virika sat in the Infirmiry, disbelief written all over her face. The doctor had just told her very distressing news, and she had no idea how to take it. This was something she hadn't planned that night. Not at all. This was something that had been far from her mind. And only now did she realize why she should have been thinking of everything that could have gone wrong that night. What would Garrik think...? He stomach heaved at the thought of telling him. And avoiding him for the rest of the night was going to be hard. At this time of night, every wherhandler and wherling was awake. Even the newest ones, from Virisk's clutch, were wide awake. Avoiding anyone tonight was going to be a challenge. Virika covered her mouth with her hand. Her nausea had been difficult to deal with, and she could hear the doctor talking about anti-nausea pills now. But her mind refused to focuse on the doctor at that moment. I call Garrisk's. Virisk told Virika with certainty. Don't do that! Virika called back with fear. Virisk paused a moment. Already coming...Virika sighed, tears brimming. She wasn't sure how Garrik would take the news. This was something that seemed on his list of worries. And it had happened anyway. Virika pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them there. What was she going to do?!

Virisk calls us, Mine, Garrisk informed His. Garrik's brows furrowed slightly, but he shrugged. "Okay...did she tell you where they are?"
The blue nodded, giving Garrik an image of the sick-get-better place. Garrik's brows furrowed even more, then he was running. He was oh so glad he had long legs at this point. It would help him get there faster.
Surely she would have told him something was wrong, right? If something was bothering her? Though he hadn't seen her much since their night together...
Was it something he did? Was she avoiding him because of it? What did he do, then?
Garrisk was easily keeping up with Garrik at this point, though he was worried about His and ViriskHers. His was driving himself crazy with worries, and he wasn't sure what was going on with ViriskHers.
Finally reaching the Infirmary, Garrik found he couldn't talk himself into opening the door, even though it meant finding out what was wrong with Virika...if anything was wrong. He paced in front of the door for a couple minutes, then Garrisk overtook the concerned wherling, and butted his head against the door, announcing their arrival.
Knowing they had to enter now, Garrik gave the blue wher a despairing glance, then opened the door. The sight he was greeted with took the air right out of his lungs. She looked like she was about to be sick, and she was in tears, and she was curled up in a ball, hugging her knees to herself.
He hurried over, kneeling down in front of her. He reached out and pressed a hand to her chin, making her look at him. "What is it? What's made you look so miserable?" he choked out, afraid of what this beautiful woman could be so upset about.

((Whoot! One awesome man for the jack asses in the world...!))
Virika didn't even hear the door open, which should have startled her. But Garrik's hand on her chin, forcing her to look at him, got her attention. Her heart dropped, and she felt the color drain completely out of her face. She probably looked even more sick now, because she certainly felt it.
Her stomach heaved again. Virika looked away from Garrik for a moment, trying to control the nausea. She pressed the back of her hand to her mouth, closing her eyes for a moment. Finally, the nausea settled down for a moment. But Virika was at a loss of words. Garrik was here, and she owed him an explanation, and he was worried about her. Yet no words came to her mouth.
Child. Virisk announced from the doorway, where she stood next to Garrisk.
Virika shot a look at her wher. She hadn't meant to bring Virisk from their weyr. The green was sleeping soundly when Virika came to the Infirmiry. Even after Virika had gotten the news, Virisk had had no thought about leaving the weyr. Virika had to wonder just how much of her upset she had been sharing with the wher.
She looked back at Garrik, opening her mouth to speak. But words failed her again. With a shaky sigh Virika closed her mouth again. She laid her head on her knees, terror and worry and even a little happiness swirling around.

"Child...?" Garrik repeated, looking confused as he turned to Virisk, then back to Virika. "What does she mean, child?"
Virika didn't get a chance to explain, or Virisk to expand on her statement, before shock crossed his face and his mouth dropped open. "You...You're not...?"
Gravity seemed to shift, and he quickly stumbled backward, hand reaching back for a chair. He found one, though he was sure Garrisk quickly pushed one at him, and he collapsed into it. He stared almost blankly at Virika, trying to put two and two fully together.
But, unlike most men, who would stutter and try and deny the news, he looked to her from where he sat. "How are you feeling? How far along are you? It is mine...isn't it?"
Sure, he was hardly stringing coherent sentences together, but he was being understood well enough...he hoped.

Virika didn't get a chance to answer before Garrik was freaking out. By the time he had sat down and started asking questions, Virika had had another mini freak out of her own. She put her arms over her head, hiding her face in her knees as she heard things moving around. Virisk must have sidled up next to her, for she felt the wher's presence. It was a comforting feeling.
Another wave of nausea hit, and she couldn't hold it back this time. Virika lurched to her feet and towards the garbage can near the door. There she got sick, until the point where there was nothing left in her stomach. Finally, even the dry heaves subsided.
Virika wiped her mouth with the napkin she had grabbed before coming to the Infirmiry. She didn't dare move away from the garbage can, but she was finally able to form words. She spoke to Garrik.
"I'm sick, a lot. But otherwise I feel fine. Been crying for no reason a lot too, but the doctor tells me that's a symptom. He thinks I'm only a few weeks, maybe 6 weeks, along at the latest..." She paused for a moment, turning her head to look at Garrik. Tears were brimming in her eyes as she spoke again. "Yes, it's yours. I'm sorry..."
On the last word the tears overflowed her eyes. She turned her head back down, feeling the nausea spike again. She was happy atleast that the worst of it was dry heaves...

Garrik's stomach turned slightly as Virika threw up, but he pushed the feeling aside as he quickly got to his feet and went over to Virika. He wasn't sure what he could do to help her at this point, but he pulled her hair away from her face and gently rubbed her back with his other hand.
He listened with concern as she explained how she was feeling and how far along their child likely was...That was a foreign thought to Garrik. He had never thought about having a child, and he still wasn't sure he could think of himself as a father. But he would eventually come around to it, if Virika decided she wanted to keep the child.
He hoped she did...
When she started crying, though, it just about broke his heart. "Don't be sorry, Virika. Please. Seeing you sad...it damn near breaks my heart. I...I never really thought about having kids, or being a father, or even being in a relationship, but I don't regret any of it. Honestly. I rather hope you don't, either. But, I understand if you do, and don't want to keep..."
Garrik couldn't finish his sentence, tears of his own welling up. He fought them back, not wanting to cry. He wanted to be strong for Virika.

It felt comforting, Garrik rubbing her back. It made her feel safe and cared for. All the emotions she hadn't been feeling the past few weeks...
She listened closely as he spoke, still leaning over the garbage can. Just in case, even though the nausea had subsided. She smiled a little when he said he didn't regret it. She didn't either. Far from it! That night had been one of the best nights of her life.
"But, I understand if you do, and don't want to keep..."
Virika's head came up at that comment. Her eyes narrowed, and while her stomach was heaving at the thought of what he was suggesting, her blood boiled at the same time. Was he trying to imply that she wouldn't want her own child? She glared at him, her breathing fast and shallow in her anger.
"You think I'm going to abort...?" She almost growled. Virika was fighting to keep her temper and her pride in check. What she saw made her stop, however. Tears were brimming in Garrik's eyes as well. Virika's expression softened and tears brimmed once more in her eyes. Forgetting her last question, she spoke again.
"Garrik...? What's wrong?"

"I don't know if you'd want to abort, Virika...! I never really gave being a father any thought, occupied as I was with trying to find my family. And then I found the Weyr, and got sick, and Impressed Garrisk...I just haven't devoted any time to thinking about finding a girlfriend or starting a family of my own..." Garrik said, tempted to push away from Virika and pace. But that might upset her more.
"I just...I don't want you to abort..." he added, scarcely audible. The tears continued to threaten to fall, but he'd be damned if he let himself cry and upset Virika more...!

"I'm not going to abort." Virika said quietly, having barely heard Garrik's last words. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged the man. She could see the tears and hear how close he was to crying. She wanted to comfort him, but the hug was the only thing she could offer at that moment. She still didn't trust her stomach not to revolt.
Virisk slowly walked up to them, rubbing her muzzle along Virika's arm. She was offering Virika comfort, knowing how upset she was as well.
Virika sighed, laying her head on Garrik's shoulder as she continued to hug him. A small smile came to her face as she sat there with Garrik. A child. She was going to have a baby...! "We're going to be parents." She whispered, not sure if Garrik was listening or not.

Hearing she wasn't going to abort, the pressure behind the tears finally abated, and he returned her hug. Perhaps a bit fiercely, but they both needed the reassurance of being in the other's arms.
"You're going to be a great mother, Virika," he muttered, pulling her slightly closer. He set a hand gently on the back of her head once she shifted, laying her head on his shoulder. He vaguely wondered how his parents would have reacted to discovering they were going to be grandparents, and he couldn't stop the sigh that often accompanied thoughts of his parents.

Virika nodded. "And you're going to be a great father, Garrik." She murmured back to him.
She heard him sigh, but she didn't want to move. She knew he was probably thinking about his parents, but she didn't know how she could help with that. She didn't know where his parents were any more than he did. And she didn't have anyway to try and find them either.
Instead, she scooted a little closer to Garrik. Being in his arms again was wonderful, and she felt that slightly familiar feeling of safety. She loved being in his arms. She felt so safe, and like she belonged. And now they were going to have a child. A baby. She smiled a little, the thought of holding a beautiful baby making her happy.
"I think I love you." She whispered.
((Where did that come from...? -looks at Virika muse-))

"And you're going to be a great father, Garrik." Well, he was glad she thought so. Because he wasn't so sure...
When Virika moved closer to him, he complied and wrapped his arms tighter around her. "Well, if you think so..." he muttered, somewhat awkwardly.
But when she admitted she thought she loved him, he hid a small smile before murmuring in her ear, "I know I love you, Virika. You and our child."
((Garrik muse hates me, apparently.))

((Lolo. It's all good.))
"I know I love you, Virika. You and our child." Virika felt the tears fall. She was so glad at that moment that she was pregnant. The child would be loved by both it's parents. Both the parents would be in the child's life. She turned her head so Garrik wouldn't see her tears, even though they were happy tears.
"Thank you, Garrik." She whispered.

"No, thank you, Virika. Without you, I would only have Garrisk. As much as I love him, as much as I need him, I don't think I'd be able to live alone," he replied.
He seemed to know she was crying, though she hid the tears, and leaned back slightly, turning her head so she had to look at him. He gave her a gentle smile, then leaned in and pressed a tender kiss to her lips.

Virika smiled at his words, silently agreeing. While she loved Virisk, and was so happy with her, she had grown up with a large family. And she couldn't live alone any more than she could live without Virisk now. And she was so very glad that she had managed to find Garrik at Rocky. It was the last thing she would have imagined happening.
Virika tried to fight Garrik when he turned her to look at him, but she couldn't. She wanted to look at him, at his gorgeous face and warm eyes. Even though there were still tears rolling down her cheeks, Virika smiled back at him. And then he pressed a kiss to her lips. She kissed him back gently, moving her arms so that they were around his neck.
When the kiss ended Virika laughed slightly. The tears were gone, and in their place was a look of complete happiness. "So I have a question." She said, looking deviously at Garrik.

"Uh oh, should I be afraid?" he asked with a laugh, noticing the devious look. He felt movement at his side and knew instinctually that is was just Garrisk. And try though he might, he couldn't figure out what it was that she wanted to ask him.
((And my muse is now just being rebellious. There's no writer's block, my muse is just being hateful. >.< ))

((Lol. It's all good. Mine hates me too right now.))
Virika shook her head. "No, don't be afraid." She paused, leaning forward and pressing a small kiss to the corner of his mouth. Leaning back, she started talking again. "Do you want to be my boyfriend?" She asked in a whisper. All her courage had left her as she started talking.

Garrik blushed slightly as he registered Virika's question, but he gave her another smile as he said, "It would be my honor, dearest Virika, to be your boyfriend."
That she had even asked him made his heart soar, but at the same time, he was almost afraid she was going to revoke the offer. Another thought also made him pause for a moment. "What about Faizah? She won't object to us, or the child...?" he asked quietly.

Virika's face paled. She hadn't thought about telling Faizah. But it was obvious that they were going to have to tell her. She was the Weyrwoman. She needed to know these things...
Virika took a shaky breath and nodded. "I forgot that we have to tell Faizah. I'm not sure how that's going to go. But I doubt she will object to us or the baby. That's just like Faizah..."
((Sorry for short post...))

"Well..." Garrik paused to think over his next sentence carefully. "If she does have a problem with the baby or with me...Actually, I'm not sure what I could do. But I think of something, I'll promise." He pressed another kiss to her forehead, holding her close.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine," he whispered in her ear, rubbing her back again.

Virika smiled slightly. Garrik was wonderful. Not only was he willing to accept the baby she was pregnant with, but he wanted to be with her. And he seemed willing to go against her cousin, the Weyrwoman, to remain with her.
Virika couldn't help but feel happy. And now that her stomach seemed to have calmed down, the emotion was just that much keener.
((Sorry. Muse died.))
