Love had been testy again lately, so Z'ran knew her eggs would be coming soon. He just couldn't be sure when exactly the green would lay them. He did know, however, that when she had clutched before, it was sooner than this.
But he wouldn't have to worry about it for much longer. He was coming back to his weyr after taking a walk, Ilimsya curled sleepily around his shoulders, when Love came from between with a pleased chirp. Guessing what that could mean, he hurried into his weyr, taking a look around.
And there, in her little nest, were six eggs. Carefully unclipping the hammock she claimed as hers, he took the eggs down to the Sands. Love was already with him, wrapped tightly around his arm, so he didn't have to worry about calling her. Gently transferring the eggs from the hammock to the Sands, he then pulled the green flit off of his arm.
"Take care of your eggs. You want to see them hatch, don't you?" The unspoken question, though, was, You don't want Ilimsya to take care of them, do you? It always worked, Z'ran noted with a suppressed smile as Love hissed at the sleepy gold and curled around the buried eggs. The rivalry between the green and gold could always be relied on.

Z'ran had taken to relaxing in the Common Room the past couple of days, the plush chairs there better than just him sitting around in his room or sifting through Earthian history in the library. He had just gotten up to go investigate the...t.v...sitting on one of the tables when he heard a trilling squeal.
Having learned that sound didn't mean bad, he turned and looked for the little green he knew made the sound. She was coming from between as he turned, whirling in circles around him. He held his arm out slightly so she could alight on it and crawl to his shoulders, scratching her eyeridge gently. She then gave him the image of her six eggs shaking free of the burying sand.
He smiled slightly, then took off for the kitchen to get meat chopped for the hatchlings. Then he recalled that he had to alert the people who had talked to him to reserve an egg. Or two, in Tamahome's case.
After stopping off at the kitchen to start someone cutting the meat, he called for Ilimsya and waiting for her to appear. "Ilimsya, find Aurora, Tamahome, and the candidate Tatsuya. Show them Love's eggs are hatching and that they need to get to the Sands. I'll have the meat for them. Now go, my dear," he told her, watching her fly off again. Now to get the meat and get to the Sands...

Tatsuya had been both surprised and not surprised when Z'ran had agreed that he could have one of Love's eggs.
It was not like there were not, generally, plenty of the little creatures the Pernese called firelizards around. A much smaller version of dragons, they made good pets and were sometimes useful.
When one of the man's other firelizards appeared in that way they had, out of nothing...he jumped a little. The teleportation thing was taking some getting used to. Dragons did that, too. The delicate boy smiled at the little thing. An image of eggs came into his mind.
"Okay. I guess it's that time."
They kept eggs on the warm sands...large enough for multiple clutches even of dragons, let alone firelizards around the edges. It was how they incubated them...they did not brood as birds did, but used sand. It all made sense.
Making his way there, he headed over to the small clutch. Six eggs. "Hi," he said, quietly, studying each of the six. It being a green clutch, there would only be the 'lesser' colors...brown, blue, green and maybe white...but he didn't care.
He wanted one, if he was honest with himself, because they were cute.

Tamahome and Aurora were in the same room, tolerating each other, in a rare instance of them sharing the paperwork of the Weyr. Ilimsya, Z'ran's gold, appeared from between and portrayed an image of shaking eggs. Tamahome looked up at the gold, his brow furrowed, before he realized what was going on.
"Love's clutch his hatching..." He murmured.
Aurora looked up, rubbing her eyes. She too glanced at the gold, then nodded to Tamahome. "We should get over there. You have two eggs, if I remember correctly..." She sighed, setting down the account book she had been going through.
Tamahome shifted through some files before pulling out a clump of papers. When Aurora looked at him strangely, he tossed her a camera. "Just because he have eggs claimed, doesn't mean we can forget to record the clutch..." He headed out the door then, the papers and a pen in hand.
Aurora followed him, wondering what her egg would hold. The highest she would get was a brown, which might be interesting since she already had Fudge. But if she got a white, which was possible from any clutch, Aurora would refuse the creature. She didn't want the strange white flits. They gave her the creeps... Secretly Aurora wished for a blue, especially one rich in color.
Tamahome could have cared less what color his egg revealed to be. He just wanted a friend for Cue, who seemed to have grown lonely recently. Any color would be fine for him, just so long as it got along with his little green. Who, having sensed Tamahome thinking about her, appeared from between, already humming. Aurora's brown Fudge and green Gloria were already at the sands, if the image Cue gave him was correct.

Z'ran walked into the Sands, bowls of meat for the firelizard hatchlings in his hands and balanced on his arms, not long after Tatsuya. He caught the boy's tentative "Hi" to the eggs and found himself grinning at the sight. Approaching behind the boy, he said, "You're Tatsuya, right? Sato Tatsuya?"
"Well, either way, here. Take a bowl. Normally I'd hand it to you, but as you can see, I'm a little precariously balanced."
Love snapped and then growled at the human who had dared get so close to her eggs while she was fetching HersBraveZ'ran. Then she let out a shrill cry, taking to the air again, going between to find HerLoverKeno and let him know their eggs were hatching.
Z'ran looked at Tatsuya. "Love would...appreciate if you weren't so close while she isn't with her eggs. She was not very happy that you were right over the eggs, but she knows I won't let anything happen to them. You're fine," he said, shaking his head slightly. Love had squealed right in his ear, and it was not a pleasant feeling.
Ilimsya came from between at that point, humming as she entered the air above the Sands. Already firelizards were starting to appear, meaning their people wouldn't be far behind. She gave him the image of Tamahome and Aurora working on paperwork, then Tamahome with papers in his hands, throwing some rectangular object at Aurora. "Ah, the records and...camera?" He looked to Tatsuya, a perplexed expression on his face. "Is that what you call your image capturing devices?"

Tatsuya stepped back...the man was right, he was a little close to the green. He did take the bowl, though. Hrm. The green had vanished again, leaving the six little eggs right there. They seemed very small...of course, the creatures that would hatch from them would not exactly be large. He wondered, once more, what colors this clutch would produce. More of the little mini-dragons appeared in the air, all of them making the humming noise with which they greeted hatchings and even, he had been told, human births.
They were cute. Definitely. All of the wings in the air made for a colorful display "Camera, yes." Somebody was going to bring a camera? That made sense.
Would the dragon hatching be anything like this? They would be larger, of course...much larger eggs for much larger beings. And more formal...there were traditions of dress and etiquette that had to be maintained. Which made sense. For right now, he just watched the eggs, wondering which one would hatch first.

Tamahome and Aurora arrive soon afterwards. Tamahome smiled at Z'ran, approaching him. "Mind if I take some bowls for Aurora and myself?" He asked politely.
He smiled over at Tatsuya, who already had a bowl in hand and seemed to be inspecting the clutch. If Tamahome remembered correctly, which wasn't very likely, this would be Tatsuya's first flit hatching. He smiled at the fond memory of Impressing Cue.
Aurora was looking over the eggs. She knew number six was hers, and she wanted to take it and go off on her own before it could hatch. But she knew better than to do so before she was given permission to...
Fudge and Gloria were perched on platforms above the sands, watching the going ons and humming like no tomorrow. She smiled up at the two of them. They were her world...

"Please, go ahead," Z'ran said to Tamahome, turning slightly so the Weyrleader could get to most of the bowls. Now he was only left with two or three bowls, and that was much more manageable than the six he had tried to carry before.
Love came from between again, then settled on the sand near her eggs, curling her tail around her legs like a cat. Her eyes where excitedly whirling a pleased blue, crooning at her rocking eggs before taking up the hum resonating through the air.
The egg labeled with a carefully drawn '3' rolled and cracked, but the hatchling inside didn't reveal itself. Z'ran then took a quick step back, not wanting to Impress another firelizard. He didn't even want to think about how Uthekielth would react to a third firelizard... He was, however, curious about what was in the cracked egg. It was, by far, the largest, so he assumed it would be a brown.
Then the egg with a '2' rolled out of its little nest of sand, rolling and knocking into a couple of the other eggs before the hatchling within exploded out of its shell. The little brown shook the goo and bits of shell from his hide, then opened his wings in an attempt to fan them dry.
The brown was a rich, chocolate brown, with darker brown spots on his wings. Raising his tiny snout, he caught the scent of something quite enticing. A croon diverted his attention for a moment, and he looked to the small green he knew to be his mother, and gave her a small chirp of greeting back. Then his hunger returned to his mind, and he leapt at the nearest human. He climbed up the man like a squirrel did a tree, shoving his head into one of the bowls the man was holding.
Z'ran watched as the first egg to hatch, however explosively, revealed a brown. He hid a smile as the firelizard hatchling threw himself at Tamahome, scrambling up the man, heading for the bowl in the Weyrleader's hand.

So...that was what the babies looked like...slightly different proportions from the adult, and the brown didn't seem to have quite worked out flying. Instead of taking off, it shot up Tamahone as if he was a tree or a rock, no doubt digging baby-sized talons in all the way up.
Tatsuya winced just a little bit at that...he'd have to watch that with his. For right now, he focused on the other eggs. Egg number 3 was the largest, but there wasn't ever anything above brown in a green clutch, or so he had been told. So it couldn't be a bronze or a gold.
Had to be another brown, bigger than the first one. The rest, then, would all be blues or greens. Or possibly one of the rare whites.
The brown that had hatched, though? As far as he could tell it was healthy and it was definitely cute...although if the dragons hatched that fast, he could understand why he had been warned to be ready to dodge on the Sands.

Tamahome watched as a gorgeous brown hatched. The brown seemed to greet his mother before it leapt at him. He winced a little as little claws managed to scratch as the flit climbed up him. Finally it settled on the side of the bowl, and Tamahome smiled.
It was a cute flit, and such a rich brown color. Tamahome reached into the bowl and grabbed a few pieces of the cut meat. He offered it to the flit. "Be careful little guy. You don't want to choke." He whispered to it.
Aurora was practically bouncing up and down. While the brown was cute, she wanted to know what would come from her egg. She approached Z'ran, carrying her bowl of meat. "Would it be alright for me to take my egg to a corner on the sands?" She asked. She didn't want to take the chance that her flit might Impress to someone else...

Egg 2 Calm, Observant, Well-Mannered #b33d00 with spots of #5b1f00 on the wings Looks to Tamahome The little brown blinked up at Tamahome, eyes swirling all colors before reaching out and taking the meat from the man's hand. He chirped thanks up at the man. Z'ran didn't get a chance to answer before another egg calmly cracked open and the hatchling within squirmed out of the wreckage. He glanced over and saw it was the egg that had been marked with a '5', Tatsuya's claimed egg. The little green that was inspecting herself was a soft, moss green, and as she stood up to sniff the air, it became obvious that she had a sort of belt marking that was a deeper, grassy green. She stared at Tatsuya, debating how to get the thing creating the smell that was driving her stomach crazy, before she just lowered herself back onto all fours, stepped over to the man, and chirped at him. She repeated her demand for food, waiting for him to respond.

Well, there it was...the one that was supposed to be his. Tatsuya dropped to one knee and reached out as she padded over.
She had two colors of green on her...and he had noted the dragons and firelizards he had seen tended not to be 'solid colored' but rather to have different shades. "Here you go, little one." A name was already coming into his mind. "Momi," he added, after a moment. He would call her that. "Thank you," he murmured...to the hatchling, her dam or Z'ran? Probably all three. The green climbed onto his hand...for right now, she pretty much fit on his wrist, although he assumed she would eventually end up about the same size as her mother.
She *was* absolutely, utterly, cute.

Tamahome smiled at the brown. "Akatsuki..." He murmured to it. The brown looked up at him, tilting his head to one side before taking another chunk of meat.
He looked over at the other egg he had reserved. Egg number 4 was his as well, and Tamahome was starting to have the same fear as Aurora. With one little flit to look after, he wasn't sure the other would "accidentally" Impress to him...
Aurora smiled at the little green. She was cute. But Aurora wanted to procur her flit too. She turned back to Z'ran. "May I please?" She asked with a seductive note to her voice. She was going to pull ever trick out of the book...

((Ack! I had thought I had posted for Alex!))
You would not believe how horrible it was to be stuck in the same, boring place all he time. It was beyond any mind-bending torture one could possibly think of. At least for a specific Green and her Rider.
You see, when everyone doesn't like you, and you just had a Flight, you don't want to stick around and be all friendly to anyone. You do have to keep up appearances you know. You cannot just sit there and be a smirking idiot in front of the glares and scowls. Especially when it was the Weyrleader's own Bronze that caught you....
Yes. So. The duo had to move. But where? They were cornered in by rules and regulations prohibiting flight anywhere where they might actually want to go. They couldn't go to town, or to visit Alex's idiot family, or go to Pern. They couldn't even go to the Japanese Weyr! Could they?
Well, they supposed, there was no actual rule stating they couldn't. It was just that no one did it. The rules only said they couldn't got near any civilized area on Earth. Not that tiny, isolated Weyr. So, they thought. They had a plan.
Today was a perfect time. Middle of the night, everyone asleep....Yes. Time to go.
Regardless of any rules that may or may not be in place, they were going. And that, my friends, was that.
They came out above the ocean, happy that they Goof had somehow gone there before and had somehow remembered the coordinates. The Weyr rose before them; rumors had been correct. It was a shanty, tiny place. It looked as if all the dragons were outside, sitting and sleeping. Hah! That would not do. Eturynth was perfect; she deserved more than a cursory glance.
Alex carefully assessed possibly landing areas. Beach? No. The nearly nonexistant cliffs? No, not good enough. Feeding Grounds? Hah! What about the Hatching Sands? Perfect!
Even better, it looked as if some Riders were gathering there.
Land, my dear, the golden haired Rider murmured. And look, we have a welcoming party! To the seductive chuckle of a dragon, the ground rose to meet them.

Egg 5 Demanding, Imperial, Sweet #72e247 with belt-like marking of #2b551b Looks to Tatsuya Z'ran looked to Aurora, to Love, then back to Aurora. "Alright, you can move the egg. Just keep it within sight. I don't want Love flying into a panic or a rage because she can't see her eggs," he sighed. And then there was another arrival on the Sands. He looked up, trying to identify the green. He hadn't seen her at Isle before, so that either meant she was from Rocky or from Pern. He was, however, distracted as he heard another egg crack. As he looked, he saw that the largest egg had cracked again, but the hatchling inside still remained hidden from them. However, there was another green wobbling around, getting her legs under her. She was a solid green, and Z'ran noticed that she had hatched from the egg labeled with a '6'. Aurora's egg. The green was a dark green, and she didn't seem to know quite what to make of everything. Then she wobbled over toward Aurora, smelling the meat in the bowl the Weyrwoman was holding, and tried to jump up to the bowl before realizing she had wings. But how could she use them to get to the bowl?

Aurora shot a look at the strange green that had appeared. Then she turned, ignoring the pair. The green wasn't remarkable, just pale colored and without a mark on her. She wasn't special, like Faith was.
Aurora went to grab the egg, but it had already hatched. She paniced for a moment, then sighed a little. It wasn't flying away. In fact, the little green was coming towards her. She smiled and reached down to take a hold of it, enticing the little flit with a handful of finely chopped meat chunks. She smiled at the green, sending it waves of love and adoration and acceptance.
Tamahome wasn't so passive about the strange green pair that had appeared. He knew they weren't from Isle, and no one on Pern had the coordinates for Isle. So they had to be from Rocky. He wondered if they had a message, but then... Faizah usually sent Reyna with messages...

"Well, hello hello hello..." a voice virtually purred. "What have we here? A hatching? And only two eggs left?"
Alex stood, almost posing, not twenty feet away from the small crowd. Twenty feet beyond her, a Green stood waiting and ignoring the rest of everything around her. Pale and well-proportioned, she had a haughty look that one couldn't possible mistake for anything.
"I am Alex, from Rocky. Mind if I join the fun?" the girl asked, eyes trained greedily on one of the eggs, the one painted with the number one. The bright paint stood out. She couldn't help but stare, she felt. After all why not?
Without waiting for an answer, she scooped up the egg and a bowl, purred a seductive "thanks," and turned away. The egg would hatch any minute now, and she had quite suddenly decided that it would be hers. She didn't care that it might just be someone else's egg. But really, did she really care? No, not really.

Egg 6 Hovering, Possessive, Assertive #274625 Looks to AuroraWith a feral shriek, Love was in the air and diving at Alex, though Z'ran was already in motion and grabbing the furious flit out of the air. That being said, however, he was already thinking of some choice words for the mysterious rider. "Excuse me," he growled. "But I don't think I gave you permission to take one of the eggs. I don't know, nor care, who you are, but that is egg theft in most sense of the word. The only reason, and I mean only reason, I stopped Love from attacking you is because there's a chance of damage to the egg. I would be most appreciative if you put the egg back and went back to Rocky, miss." But, it was too late. The egg had already cracked in her hand, and the flit merely crawled from where it had hatched to the bowl that was so close and smelled so enticing. The firelizard was another green, this time a forest green with stripes of a vibrant green running along her body. With the distraction of the Rocky rider, another egg decided to hatch. The firelizard to practically sprint from the egg with the red 4 was a dark blue, and he had a very obvious bright blue thin ring around his neck. Tamahome was the closest human, and the little flit was the first of the clutch to figure out flight, leaping into the air and pumping his sticky wings. He then dove into the other bowl, devouring the fine chunks of meat.

Alex laughed, throwing her head back as the bell-like sound tumbled from her lips. "Go on, Rider. Take the egg. It's all yours!" With that, she tossed the fragments of eggshell and paint to the furious man and the flit. "What's inside, though, I think I'll keep. She seems rather taken with me, after all."
The Greenrider stroked the tiny body as it stuffed the contents of the bowl into it's mouth. The green was beautiful, with markings. Goof and Venus had no markings, unfortunately. This little one did though. She wondered what she would call her.
Her topaz eyes cool and ambitious, Alex glanced serenely at the Green, gliding through the air away from the Gold clutch. Eturynth did not mind a change in weather, temperature, and time. She actually enjoyed it. I wonder if we shoul come back more often, she purred, watching the healthy Bronze and Brown that she saw.

"Elsa." Aurora whispered to the green flit.
Elsa was so pretty. A dark green, without any markings. And somehow, Aurora believed that any markings would just detract from the beauty of the green. She smiled, feeding the flit little chunks of meat. Gloria might not be very happy with another green around, but Aurora knew the older green flit would get used to her.
Fudge was another story. He was so kind, he accepted anything Aurora came home with. Which was interesting, to say the least. She loved her brown, and his accepting nature, which was wonderful.
---
Tamahome smiled as another flit, a blue, winged his way to the bowl. Tamahome hadn't seen what number was on this one's egg. He had been too occupied watching the scene with the Rocky green rider. Later, he swore he would send a message to Faizah about that girl. She had already seemed to Impress the green, but perhaps there was something that Faizah could do as punishment to her for stealing the egg...?

Egg 1 Hyperactive, Inquisitive, Proddy #12771d with stripes of #18e728 Looks to Alex Egg 4 Spastic, Energetic, Friendly #181f9e with a thin ring of #41f0f2 Looks to TamahomeEven Z'ran's quick hands couldn't stop Love once Alex flicked the broken shards of shell at them. With another shriek, she betweened out of his hands, coming out near Alex as the Rocky rider walked away. Diving through the air, she attacked Alex, clawing at the presumptuous woman who assumed she could waltz in and take one of her eggs! Before too much damage could be done to the Rocky rider, Z'ran lunged across the Sands and pried a still-furious Love off of the injured Rider. However, he wasn't about to apologize to the little brat, as he thought she deserved at least that much, and keeping a hold of Love required most of his attention. While still unhappy about having her daughter stolen from her, Love had at least now seen her little green daughter and started to calm down, still hissing at Alex. That healthy bronze Etyrunth saw did not approve of the havock the green and her rider were causing, eyes slowly whirling red. He growled toward the green, half unfurling his wings should Z'ran want to fight for the firelizard. And it wasn't even that he wanted to defend the flit. He more wanted the creature to be taken away; less of them he had to deal with. But the manner in which the newly hatched green was leaving was upsetting Z'ran, and Uthekielth wasn't about to let the green get away with that without some warning. Z'ran then turned his back to Alex, surveying the scene on the Sands. There was only one egg left, the largest and unclaimed egg. It didn't seem to have moved much during the past couple of minutes, so he was almost wondering if the egg was a dud. However, the hatchling inside shifted again, pushing against the confining shell. A few more convulsions against the ivory shell, and the firelizard hatchling inside was free. Except...as the hatchling unwound itself from the mess, it became obvious that it wasn't one hatchling, but two. And they were complete opposites of each other, it seemed. One was a pale ice blue with a dark, nearly black comma on his back. His twin was the same dark blue as the comma, and the comma on his own back was the same icy blue that defined his lighter brother. The twins looked around in sync, not sure which bowl they should head toward, but after a minute, they seemed to finally make up their minds and half-ran, half-flew toward the man who had already bonded with one of their green sisters.

Tamahome was at a loss as he watched Alex steal the flit. He wondered what he could do for a moment, then noticed the swirling of rainbow eyes. There was nothing he could do now. The green had Impressed to the arrogant green rider from Rocky. He sighed, feeling stupid for letting the girl get the green.
But then he felt another moment of loss. The blue flit in the bowl he was holding was gorgeous, but Tamahome couldn't think of a name! Today was not his day...
The last egg hatching stole his attention again. Tamahome was glad that it wasn't a dud, but then he was intensely surprised. Twin flits, sharing an egg!?! That didn't happen often, and he had a feeling it was going to need to be recorded and copies sent not only to Rocky, but Pern as well. He sighed.
Tamahome looked down at the blue again, and suddenly had an image of a cat with catnip floating around his head. Then the Weyrleader smiled. "That will be your name." He said, glancing at the blue with a smirk. "Catnip."

And...how often did that happen? The largest egg did not hatch some kind of giant firelizard, but hatched...twins.
Not just twins, but exactly what the Chinese would call yin and yang, the one pale with a dark marking, the other the reverse. Tatsuya drew his breath sharply. He knew enough to know that this might be lucky. Or...something. Or maybe he should just call it lucky, given that it meant there was one more of the delightful creatures than they had expected.
Twins, though, and it was as if they were two souls in one body as they turned, studying the area, then suddenly moved in the sort of hopping fly-run the babies seemed to prefer, not yet sure of how to coordinate their dark and light wings.
Right at him. Right at the bowl, almost landing on top of Momi. Three of them? Yes, apparently, three of them. Momi squeaked a little as her brothers joined her. "Well, at least you two will be easy to name." After all, they had, in terms of their hatching and their insane togetherness, not to mention their coloring, basically named themselves. There was, in the end, no choice.

Already immersersed in her own greed and self-absorbtion, the newly re-Impressed Alex held the gorging Green, watching her as she attempted to sort out a good name. She had Venus, Goof, and Eturynth....What was another that would work? A goddess's name....
Before she could think one up, the most unexpected thing - for her - happenned. The dame flew at her with hate on its pathetic little mind.
With a shriek, the Greenrider lurched back, holding up her free arm against the ferocious attack and clutching the hatchling to her with the other. Eturynth, in the distance, echoed her surprised cry.
Fortunately, after only a few seconds the Bronzerider stepped up and grabbed the struggling Love. Fuming with hate equal - if not greater than - Love's own, Alex held her scratched and profusely bleeding arm to her front, firmly holding Bastet away from it and the single scratch along her left cheekbone. It would not do if she lunged at her.
Bastet, she had recalled among the chaos, was the cat-headed ancient Egyptian goddess of love, beauty, and dance. As so the Green would be Bastet.
Eturynth hissed at the Bronze as it glared up at her, her eyes a more bright and angry red than they had been when Cioeth had hatched. Pehaps, Alex, we should.... she hissed angrilly to her rider, her thoughts hinting of her bloody desires.
No. Not now. But perhaps later, dear. We will, of course, be back.
((Yeah....Little muse for Alex right now.))

As much as he disapproved of the chaos, it would not do to attack another dragon. Z'ran agreed with Uthekielth's demand. "It would be best if you left. You've caused enough problems," he said. Love hissed her own agreement, still glaring at Alex with red eyes. And, despite the chaos the green weyrling caused, he was rather pleased with the turnout of the hatching. All six, well seven, firelizards had Impressed, though one wouldn't be staying at Isle. One of the eggs had hatched twins, which was an amazing feat from such a little green mother. Perhaps Keno being the sire of the clutch had something to do with it?
