Candidate Chore: Librarian's Helper (Open)

Kira & Gold Empress
Kira walked down the hallway towards the Library. Since arriving at the Weyr, she and her brother had explored what they could of the weyr and knew where most things were at. The only place they haven't really gotten at look at yet were the Hatching Sands. But maybe soon, they get a chance to sneak a peek there. Anyways, at first, they didn't have much to do. But now, it seemed that they were to be given a chore to do every month. Kira didn't mind since it did feel right to stay there eating and sleeping without doing anything in return. But, she did wish that she was given a different chore that would have taken her outside. But, she wouldn't shirk the chore just because she didn't like it all that much.

When she arrived at the Library, the old Librarian looked up at her. Kira greeted the her with a polite nod as she said, "Hello, I'm here for the Candidate Chore. I'm supposed to help the Librarian. There are two others that should come along soon." She did hope that the other two would come soon. She didn't want to be cooped up inside all day, with just her, the books, and the little old lady who didn't seem to be the talkative type. Then again, she was in the library so talking would be a bit no-no.

Empress swooped inside the library and landed on Kira's right shoulder. She looked around herself, not impressed with what she saw. There wasn't a flit in sight and there didn't seem to be any interesting thing to be done inside the library. She chirped a greeting toward Hers but she also demanded that she be fed. Empress was a late sleeper and she had just woken up when Hers had gone to do the library.

Kira caressed Empress on her head but in a small whisper, she said, "I'm sorry, Love. You'll have to wait until I'm done with my chore. Or you can go see, Sirai if he'll go feed you." Kira hoped Empress would opt to just stay with her and wait patiently. At least with Empress around, Kira wouldn't feel too cooped up inside the library.

Much as Empress wanted to eat, she would rather that Hers fed her rather than someone else. So, with a harrumph and a discontented sigh, she secured herself on Kira's shoulder and decided to nap, while Kira did her chore. Hopefully, by the time she woke, Hers will have been done with her chore.

Kira looked back at the old Librarian and hoped that she would let Empress stay. The Librarian didn't seem to mind having a flit inside the library. After a while, the Librarian ask Kira to dust and clean, books and shelves, in one part of the library that was not frequently visited. The Librarian told Kira where she could get cleaning supplies and left her to do the chore in peace.

Kira got a duster to dust the books, and a sponge with a bucket of water to clean the shelves with. She went to the section of the library that she was to clean and dust. First she took the books out of the top shelf one-by-one, and dusted them as she put them down somewhere out of the way. Then, Kira wet she sponge before cleaning the top shelf with the sponge. There sure was a lot of dust on the shelf as Kira wiped it clean. She made sure that the shelf was clean before putting the books back up. Giving the books another good dusting with the duster to make sure that it was clean of dust. She repeated the process for the second row shelf of the bookshelf.

((I know, I'm not puting a candidate in here. But if it was just candidates, it wouldn't be any fun. Right?))

While the library may have seemed empty, it was far from it. There were three visitors there, slinking around in the shadows. Truthfully they were playing a game of hide and seek, which was entertaining in itself. A large dog, a fluffy cat and a gold flitter were playing a game of hide and seek, much to the librarian's dismay.

Apparently it was the dog's turn to seek, and the cat had found an interesting human to occupy her attention. She threaded through the legs of the candidate cleaning the shelves, purring quietly. Baby, for that was the cat's name, meowed at Kira.

Since Kira was already sort of on an routine as she cleaned the shelves and the books, she was startled to suddenly feel what felt like a cat threading through her legs. Looking down, as she heard the cat purring, she smiled at it before softly saying, "Hey there little kitty. What are you doing here?". Kira wasn't really expecting the cat to answer her, but she was wondering if the cat was lost or if it was waiting for its owner. Looking back up and around, she hoped that the Librarian wouldn't get mad if she saw the kitty kat wandering around the library. However, since Kira still need to finish her chore, looking back down at the kitty, she said, "Well kitty, I don't know what you are doing, but I still need to finish my chore." as Kira picked up the duster to dust the books. Hopefully, the cat won't think that Kira wanted to play when she waved the duster around.

Baby listened carefully to Kira, but didn't move when the candidate went back to her work. Obviously the dog had not picked up her scent yet, so she needn't worry. And this human was quite interesting indeed. So, instead of leaving, Baby walked a small distance away. She sat, curling her bushy black tail around herself, and watched with gleaming gold eyes.

Reyna, the gold flitter also participating in this game, had found the cat. But since the gold was not seeking, she paid it no mind. Instead she found a perch on the top of the bookcase and chirped a greeting to the woman who also had a gold flit. Reyna found that, from her perch a top the case, she could easily see the red striped dog seeking them.

Look up as she heard a chirp from a gold flit. "Hello there. Are you supposed to be there?" Kira asked the gold flit. She didn't mind having the gold flit perched up in the book case, Kira just hoped that the gold wouldn't track dust over the books and shelf that she has already cleaned. Kira wondered why she was being accosted by various animals in the Library of all places. "Well, you're welcome to stay there, Lovely Gold. It's just that, I've already cleaned this part, so please don't track dust over here. Okay?" Kira told the gold flit as she gestured to the part that she had already cleaned. With a shrug of her shoulders, she went back to her chore. As she did so, she idly wondered if her fellow candidates that was given the same chore as her will show up at all.

Empress deigned to open one of her eyes when she had heard the chirp of greeting. She looked askance at the other flit and noticed that it was a gold. Coming fully awake, she thrilled a greeting back at the other gold flit. Besides, Empress knew that the other gold flit was older than her. She might like to boss Emperor around and any other flits that she met, but that didn't mean that she could boss around an older gold flit like herself.

Reyna chirped in acknowledgement. She wasn't going to dirty the place up. Then she heard the other gold. Reyna turned to look at her, eyes whirling a calm green. Reyna was pleased that the other gold acknowledged her. So she trilled a small welcome back to her before flitting off to another bookself.

Weed, the dog that was currently seeking the flit and the cat, turned a corner. He could smell the cat, but he could also smell another flit, and another person. A person that wasn't the sour librarian. He would have smiled if he could have, following the scent to the person.

And low and behold, there was the cat...!
