I understand that everyone has made an effort to make a candidate for the upcoming Hatchings, but we will obviously not have enough. At this rate, we'll have lots of wild wher running around unbonded and dragonets suiciding left and right.
So I have a suggestion.
The plot states that Pern has a shortage of candidates on Pern. Even so, couldn't they send a few over to Earth in hopes that some of the dragonets are healthy? I mean Jadavath will most likely not have a lot of defective dragons in her clutch. Missing limbs are not hereditary, -as far as I know- and she was caught by a fully healthy male Brown. It makes sense that most are completely fine.
Here is my suggestion:
Pernese candidates come and Impress the healthy dragonets and leave, while the Rocky candidates Impress defective dragonets and stay.

I like the thought. The 'leftovers' would basically be given to npc candidates, then?
It seems like a good idea, and a good way to pretty easily fix the problem with 'leftovers'. (Eurg. Wanted to make a candidate, but my truancy from the board is bad enough.)
I certainly think this is a REALLY good idea, except for one thing. Wouldn't the Pernese be a little weirded out by greens clutching?
Or would they just assume it's because the greens have never had firestone?

I made a little suggestion about green clutches being half infertile, somewhere in Faizah's cbox.. -finds- rockyweyr.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=ds&thread=452&page=6#2310Somewhere in that mess. The paragraphs start with "Speaking of which..." Basically, it would cut green clutches down to about 5-10 healthy dragons that hatch, instead of the 10-20 that happens should all of the eggs be fertile. (It all depends on the Flight, the winner, the clutch size, etc). Not only would it cut down the need for candidates in general but then we wouldn't have so many going back to Pern or NPC weyrlings running around. Besides, if there are 8 dragon candidates, and nearly 40 eggs on the sands between the two greens, that leaves 32 NPC candidates. Maybe about half are Pernese? So 16 go back to Pern. That leaves 16 NPC weyrlings on Earth. That's kinda more NPCs that I would like... Anyway that's a suggestion for another thread--which I'm going to copy/paste in a bit--but I like the candidates from Pern bit, so yeah. Though I don't really have a stance on the whole genetically infertile/chewing firestone thing, yes, the Pernese, at least according to Rocky's history/timeline/background/bleh, greens are infertile if they chew firestone. Since there is no use for firestone on Rocky, the greens are fertile. In Crucith's case, she was kept away from firestone out of fear she would set a weyrling on fire. 8| But, and I was going to mention this in her clutching thread but I'll do so here as well, her clutches rarely, if ever, produced healthy dragonets. Greens aren't known for their motherly natures, according to green flitters that leave their eggs unattended. Crucith never took care of her eggs, being more selfish and uncaring of others than most greens... And being a sadist, she wouldn't try to make sure her eggs were comfortable. -cough- Long story short, greens who chew firestone are infertile. Rocky has no need for firestone. Thus greens lay eggs. So the Pernese would think it unorthodox, but I don't think they would pass up a chance to steal more dragons back to their world. Greedy little people.
