ANYWAY.
So I have a problem. Being incredibly anal as I am, I am having trouble contemplating the personal weyrs here.
I always had thought of them as being like...caverns in the sides of the mountain, with a room further back that opens into the main cave where the dragons are.
Basically, a natural cave with a natural opening.
Because, really, how would you put doors on a weyr? So now I'm wondering if dragons have a high body temperature, or if Rocky has heating. Because...even in July, it's going to be damn cold up in the mountains at night. How do the riders not freeze?
And how in Winter? And what the hell about rain??!! Seriously! What if it snows?
Faizah's got hers as having a tunnel-like entrance, which makes sense, as it could have a curtain-like door-type thing, which would keep out the cold, but also be disguised from prying eyes.
(This really bugs me, for some reason. And I would think it would make sense to try to hide the weyrs from the outside. Then again, dragons flying around everywhere...)
UM. Yeah. I've typed up one of my character's weyrs.
I'm just being driven insane with the specifics. If I'm just crazy, tell me so. But this is one of those things that keeps me up at night. Oi.

This probably should have been mentioned somewhere.. although I'm not even sure if I've run this past Faizah yet.. -shrug-
Well, in this spin off, the Rockies are still rising, instead of crumbling like they are today. In case you're not familiar with geology in any way, that would mean that the tectonic plates that sit nearby the Rockies are convergent instead of divergent. Therefore there is hot magma building up under the mountain. Now, it doesn't necessarily sit right under the Weyr itself, but nearby enough so that with Earthian technology the heat can be harnessed, cooled properly, and run throughout the Weyr.
(For all of you that are very aware of geology and it's effects on an area, I do realize that this would change a lot around the Rockies, and probably even further away. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert in geology, and therefore cannot even fathom the repercussions of the shift in tectonic plate movement. Furthermore, I'd rather not delve into it, no matter how realistic I'd like this plot to be. The ramifications would just be to extensive to really wrap our heads around. Fair? ;.; )
Because this is a modern Weyr, there are indeed doors that separate the more private rooms in the mountain, though communal areas like the kitchen, dining hall, storage areas, hatching grounds, etc. have arches, which can be equipped with curtains if someone would so choose. The dragon entrance of the weyrs do have special curtains to block the elements. These were specially designed to keep the elements out, and retain as much heat as possible when closed. The outside of the curtain is specifically colored to match the mountain so that anyone who looks upon the mountainside wouldn't see huge holes in it. (The inside can be whatever color your heart desires. :3)
As to your description of the weyrs themselves, I'm rather confused. You said that the dragon's chambers would be in the back? I've always pictured them nearer to the dragon entrance, at the face of the mountainside. That way the dragons would have easy access to the sky at all times. Then off to the side there's another area where the rider's belongings and furniture are. Finally there's a bathroom in whichever corner of that room that you please.
You know what.. I'll just get to drawing all this, since the size charts are irking me at the moment. I'll have them up shortly, but everyone, I encourage you to throw out ideas and criticism. I'd like this twist to be as realistic as possible, so if you see a flaw, (other than the geological factors), please point it out. :3

I was just going to say myself that magma under the Rockies keep the Weyr warm all year round, and special curtains to keep out the elements.

Very nice Topaz. I like it. The only difference with Faizah's Weyr is that its higher in the mountain and therefor harder to get to. But that's okay.

Well yes. Faizah's is the exception. ^-^ Also, let me just point out, that any one weyr does not have to be laid out exactly like the others. Things can switch sides, maybe change the general shape of the rooms.. but all in all, each weyr should be equipped with everything shown. EDIT: I know someone had been asking for a layout of the Weyr.. I think Phazzy.. but anyway, here. I'll be working on the actual rooms within the Weyr next.

<3 Lovely work Topaz. That's a pretty close representation of how I thought personal weyrs looked. -nod-
And I don't think that was me asking. Unless I was sleep-typing or something. Hm. -shrugs- I remember asking for a map of a weyr, but I don't think it was Rocky.

I keep people straight by thinking of their characters. Names dont really click in my mind. ^^'

It was me asking. I think.
I am envious of your mountain-drawing skills, Topaz. Veeeery envious.
But thanks- that clears up a whole lot, yeah.

Oh. That clears some stuff up for me. I was pondering having some 'mods' made for Synth's weyr...but mostly just having it be deeper in so there's less light.

That's just fine Waffles. You can just say that they were able to pick a weyr that had a longer, curving path to the weyrledge.. or something like that. That way the rock itself would be a shield from the light, as well as the curtain.

Yeah, that'd work perfect. Hmm. I wish I had more to say on that, but that really covers it.
