The late afternoon was quiet, calm, a time of relaxation and content silences as the night drew closer. People were waiting for dinner, or finishing of their last chores of the day before darkness fell, or just hanging out and having fun.
That, she thought, was boring. Her hide shone with a molten golden glow, and she stretched and preened on top of hers' weyrledge. The late-afternoon sun cast upon her just right, and she arched her back, happily showing off. She was gorgeous, she was resplendent, she was a queen. And she wanted those silly males busy with other things to pay attention to her. Spreading her impressive wings, she jumped from the ledge, casting into a long glide over the weyrbowl, showing off and singing out with a siren call to all the males that she was waiting for them.
She perched on a branch of a tall half-bare tree, the reds and orange of the turning leaves a lovely contrast to her own beauty. She trilled proudly, admiring herself and demanding everyone else do so too, before spreading her wings once more.
(Somewhere further away, Tag glanced out in her direction, feeling her pride and bubbling energy for her coming flight. He just smiled. "Show-offy little princess." he said fondly.)
And then she was done waiting. She'd called to her potential suitors, and if they didn't follow, so much their loss.
Tiggy screeched out a challenge to the male flitters and soared upwards into the sunset light. She was a golden comet, and the lovely males she called to would have to catch her to win her glorious affections.

Feeling lazy in the afternoon, Boomerang found himself resting curled up in Lawrence’s bed. The weyrling was in the dining hall, eating, and Boomerang thought that taking a quick nap in the warmth of the weyrling’s bed would be better then sleeping outside in the cold. As such, he chirped, snuggling further under the covers. And that was a bad idea. No sooner than he started drifting off, the food in his belly making him sleepy, did he hear the call of a Rising female.
Instantly, his eyes were open, and swirling a lustful red. The bronze growled, and tore his way out of the covers, leaving little scratches and rips in the fabric as he struggled to get free. He snarled at the sheets, snapping at them once or twice. Once his thick body was out of its restraints, the bronze was in the air, and between in seconds.
He reappeared just outside the weyr, in the weyr bowl, flapping his wings and his head swiveling around quickly to find the female. He crooned in response to her call, trying to conserve energy by gliding. He landed on an out-cropping of rock, clinging to it with his tiny claws. The bronze heard a screech, clearly from the female again, and his head darted to the side. In his vision, was the sight of a gold fire lizard rising into the air. Yes, that gold would be his... She would be his.
Controlled by the Flight lust, Boomerang jumped off of the rock he was perched on, flaring out his wings to catch an updraft, and soaring upwards. He glided to where the female was waiting for her suitors, and Boomerang crooned his arrival. He drifted closer as they flew, as close as he dared, and the bronze softly hummed, trying to win the gold’s affection early in the Flight. Every little bit counted.

Bronze Zeus Zeus was at the Feeding Grounds napping nearby on top a boulder. His nap was interrupted when he heard a screech of challenge from a female. He didn't have a clue who it may be, but he was determined to answer it. He stretched his body, getting himself limber as his head looked up in the sky scanning the horizon. Instinct was taking hold of him and he knew that a female has risen to mate. When he felt limber enough, he launched himself up into the sky still looking for the female who had called to challenge the males.
When he was near the Weyrbowl, it was then that he espied the golden beauty. He also noticed the lone suitor so far and he pumped his wings to gain the distance between them and him. When he was near the pair, he crooned at the gold but pretty much snubbed the older bronze flit. This would be his first time participating in a mating flight. He would try his best, anything less would be inconceivable and demeaning to his bronze stature. Besides, he felt that he had a bit of advantage since he was probably as big as the gold flit, if not bigger. Nobody else knew except for His, but he hatched as the largest bronze flit to date with a hatchling size of 16 inches and he kept his large size until he grew up into his adult size of forty inches.
Bronze Orn Orn blinked open red swirling eyes as mating instinct took hold of him. From within His den, he screeched an answering challenge ignoring the fact that he would wake up His and His' Wher Queen. He went between from their den to the feeding grounds and pounced on the nearest chicken. He sank his teeth into the neck and with one fatal bite, killed the chicken and he began to blood it. Leaving the carcass behind, he launched himself back up in the sky and looked for the gold that he instinctively knew had risen for a mating flight.
He saw a group of three flits near the Weyrbowl and winged himself towards them. When he was near, he trilled a greeting towards the majestic golden beauty. He would chase because instinct demanded that he do so. And he would do his very best in being the bronze that caught the gold. He surveyed his rivals and decided that the older bronze would be more of a rival than the younger bronze. Looking at the older bronze, he hissed at him, letting the other know that he considered the older bronze the only competition from his point of view.

Tiggy crooned appreciatively. Three lovely boys to chase her? It would do. Nothing less than her splendrous self deserved.
She rolled abruptly, wrapping her wings around herself and dropping past the boys before leveling off beneath them. The first chasing had caught her attention with his daring nearness and his romantic crooning, but she couldn't be unfair. She briefly flipped, floating on her back for the half second it took to hum at Boomerang flirtatiously before dropping away from him and shooting past the other two, her wingtips brushing against theirs.
They were challenging one another; the younger was strong and fast and impressed her very much. She liked that. But then there was the big one; she swooped past him teasingly, calling out to him. His wingspan had to be at least as large as hers; would he be the one she would choose?
Not yet, anyway. She rose in altitude once more, growing bored with taunting the males. So they were worthy enough of chasing but that did not mean she intended to be caught easily! She shot straight up, heading for the clouds.

Not long after Boomerang found himself in the company of the golden fire lizard queen, two more suitors tried to join the Flight. While he had to let them try, Boomerang continued to fly close to Tiggy, showing that he wasn’t about to let up anytime soon. Boomerang gave them both a low growl, only to have the third bronze hiss back at him. He was brought back to reality when Tiggy responded to his crooning with a soft croon of her own. He watched with red eyes as the golden form drifted away from him, to flirt with the other males, and Boomerang felt jealous arise in his chest.
But he was first... And no other bronzes were going to take this victory away from him. While the gold had pulled forward to taunt the other two, much like she had taunted him, Boomerang found himself weaving back and forth, trying to keep an eye on the gold. He settled into a glide, just barely tilting his wings to angle himself one way or the other. No sooner did the female turn upwards to the sky, did Boomerang’s wings and body follow suit. With a satisfied screech at chasing the gold, Boomerang flared out his wings to slow himself down, allow the gold to dart ahead of him.
He would watch from behind, and Chase from behind. The bronze chirped keeping his eyes on the gold, feeling that she would try to lose her males in some way. As such, Boomerang just barely noticed the clouds until he flew through one, drenching his hide in cold water droplets. Boomerang let out a draconic gasp in surprise, faltering just enough for both of the other suitors to zip past him.
And the bronze growled again, knowing that he made a stupid mistake. He would not make that again, even though his limited memory said he probably would in a future Flight. The flitter pumped his wings, trying to make up for his stupid mistake, and return to a perfect spot behind the gold.

((Alright. Sorry everyone, but I'm wrapping this up because it's been sitting here too long and I feel bad. So I'm going to pick a winner now out of the three, and wrap this up somehow.))
Tiggy flew upwards as far as she could, letting the air thin around her as she darted through clouds and gained altitude. She was a little confused; she didn't know where she was going, just that she wanted to go UP. So up she went. She spiraled in and out of the clouds, darting through the cover they offered to confuse and taunt the bronzes.
Ha! She was so clever. They would never catch her, silly pretty things. She would never come down to the ground evereverever again! She crooned victoriously, sounding arrogant and proud of her own cleverness, and she wheeled through another cloud. The temporary blindness was no worry to her; the silly boys would never be able to catch her, and she knew where they were.
She heard the first bronze yelp as he hit the clouds, and she called out to him, egging him on. He couldn't give up, that would be NO fun! The other two were just as close, she knew, and almost as stubborn. But she found herself favoring them all, and she slowed a bit, curious to see where they were. She erupted from the cloud cover above them all, and trilled teasingly, swooping over their heads and straight back into the clouds.
The first bronze was still dropped from the clouds, behind the other two. And of them she spied them both behind her, nowhere close to where she would emerge. She smugly continued her game of hide-and-seek when a sudden growl caught her attention. Another suitor? She dashed forward, exploded out of the clouds- and found she'd misjudged her bronzes. She emerged to fast and too suddenly to stop herself and avoid what happened next; that growl had been Boomerang, and she was too close.
She yowled in defeat and not a little dismay, but as her wings brushed his, her tail twined with his and she let her momentum carry her to him. He'd surprised her, she hadn't thought he'd be there, but... she hadn't been paying attention to how close he'd been. And when she'd come from the clouds, he'd been there. And she liked that.
She let out a cry of dismissal, arrogantly, to the other bronzes, and nuzzled Boomerang. Well? He'd been the one to catch her, however unorthodox it had been. He should be very pleased, she thought distantly.

[ooc| Stupid belated post. >_> I disappoint myself.]
Completely and utterly behind now, it was Boomerang’s only thought to keep the gold in his sights. His mistake had nearly forced him to drop out. Hanging on, just barely, the bronze’s droplet-drenched hide rippled with each beat of his broad wings. His eyes caught the shining gold hide, and the younger bronze turned, spiraling through the cloud cover to minimize the strain on his wings as he gave Chase. There was a croon that came to him, through the thick clouds, from the gold, which urged Boomerang on.
He snarled, pressing his wings harder in an attempt to get past the other two suitors. Unable to see far in front of his own snout, he couldn’t try to pass up the other bronzes. It wasn’t safe... But a tiny voice in his head told him otherwise. This was his gold. His Flight, his Chase. He would do what he could to win this queen. He might be young, but what he lacked in experience, Boomerang was more than happy to make up for with his persistence. He wasn’t knocked out by the sudden cold of the cloud, and the lack of sight wasn’t going to prevent him from trying either.
A teasing trill caressed his ears. Close. So close. A bit too close. Boomerang turned towards the sound, knowing that voice to be the one of glorious Tiggy, and rocketed out of the cloud cover. A blur of gold greeted him as Boomerang emerged. Squawking, the young bronze tried to stop, to slow down so that he wouldn’t collide with the gold, only to have her gratefully entwining with him.
Boomerang’s hearts nearly jumped into his throat, threatening to claw their way out of his chest as he allowed the gold to press close to him. He welcomed the nuzzle, lowering his head to nudge her back tenderly, as he locked talons and wings, claiming her as his own for the Flight. Triumphantly, Boomerang purred against the gold, his red eyes now shutting in pleasure. He won; despite his mistake, he won.
