Virika watched her green wher, Virisk, go down to the feeding grounds. Virika wasn't really paying attention, trying to finish one of those insufferable books Faizah had told her to read, unless she wanted Ammon to get her a tutor. So it was no surprise that Virika didn't notice the glowing of Virisk's hide.
She had noticed, however, her beloved green's change in temperment. The normally calm green was edgy, short fused and petty. Virika often stroked the young wher's eyerdiges just to calm her. Lately, even that small action wasn't enough.
Virisk sauntered down to the feeding grounds, hunger and heat beating at her. Her temperature was soaring, her green hide glowing in the darkness. She knew what was happening, reaching out to her handler as she lumbered into the frey of frightened animals.
I will Run tonight, mine.
That's nice. Virika answered back, trying to understand what was going on in the book she was reading. Then the full meaning hit her. What?! Only blood! She reached across the mental bond to enforce her will on her green if she needed to.
Virisk giggled. I know, mine. I must blood only.
Virisk swatted a paw out, tripping a goat. Without preamble she clamped her jaws on the creatures throat and began to blood him. At the same time she called to the males.
Who shall chase Virisk?!

Trinity was in her quarters, running a comb through the tangled mess that was her hair currently. Damn idiot, she was, falling in the bloody lake this late. She was freezing, and so annoyed that even the constant mental nudging of Trinsk was hardly enough to get her to focus on anything besides getting dry again.
Finally, the surreptitious mental pokes got to the point where she she threw the brush across the room, let out a frustrated scream, and lashed a venomous response at the wher. WHAT?!
Virisk run. Chase. Though the statement was simple and incredibly lacking in information, it was accompanied by an image, slightly distorted and colorized through Trinsk's mind, of the green by the feeding grounds. She seemed to be glowing, radiating light and warmth, and Trinity felt her blue's rumble of awe as he looked at her.
Trinsk lumbered into the feeding pens, his tail twitching in extreme anxiety. He was surprised that he was bigger than her; she was sooo pretty, like a queen, and he rubbed his muzzle aginst the inner side of his foreleg. Virisk pretty. Trinsk me. Me chase? His tone was almost timid, scared, like he was waiting to be reprimanded. His words were stunted, too, and though he tried to be clear, his meaning bled into them through words and pictures; showing a small blue smudge as himself, and the glowing green radiance of Virisk.
He tentatively shuffled over to the other animals in the pens and took a small young goat as his prey, his eyes focused on the goat but his thoughts and entire focus on the green wher.

Virisk took down another animal, this time a small chicken, and blooded it as she waited for Chasers. Finally a blue came, all reds and yellows to her thermal vision. His scent was distinctly blue, the one that had decided to Chase green Virisk. The only male who had decided to Chase Virisk.
Trinsk... Trinsk may Chase. Virisk said in response to what the blue had muttered.
Without another thought Virisk leapt over the fence and towards the lake, jogging more than running at this point. She wanted to save her strength for the last stretches of her Run. To do that, it would not do in her favor to spend all her strength and endurance in the beginning.
((Forgive my cruddy post. Will do better later.))

((All good.))
Trinsk's eyes widened and he let out a stunned squeal at Virisk's words. She...she was going to let him chase? Prettygreen was going to accept his affections?! He didn't really have time to be any more stunned. After that, Virisk was gone, running off and over the fence.
Trinsk let out a surprised warble and scrambled to his feet, claws scrabbling at the dirt desperately. The normally-clumsy wher was suddenly in motion, leaping the fence and landing with a thud, loping casually after Virisk.

The feeling of smooth rocks under her feet was interesting in her heightened state of mind. Virisk continued lopeing forward, keeping one eye behind her to make sure she did not lose her single Chaser. She didn't want to lose him. That would not be good. And he was a handsome blue; cute almost.
She took the edge of the lakeshore, the water lapping at her claws in some places. The green wher kept on going. She needed to do something for him to prove himself. Virisk pivoted on one foot, turning and darting quickly into the brush not ten feet away from her. Her wings were partially extended, catching any amount of breeze and coolness they could.

Trinsk panted slightly, more nerves than effort. No, he was feeling good! The night air felt good in his lungs, and he settled into a pace matching the lovely green's. No point losing her, but he knew, somehow, that it was better than being too close. Oh! She'd turned, taking a route toward the lake.
Eagerly, he bounded after, calling out with a crooning sort of howl as his claws sunk into the wet sand of the lakeshore. This seemed all too- Ack! Trinsk dug his feet into the ground, turning and skidding on the sand like some strange mimicry of a drift-turn, digging his hindlegs up under him. Virisk was fast- turned on a dime, she had. He kicked out, using the strength of his legs to propel himself in a flying leap after her as she darted into the underbrush. He may not have been the smartest or the fasted male in the Weyr, but his focus on Virisk was absolute.

Virisk kept running, full out running. She was nearing the end of her stamina, and she was going to use the remainder of her strength while she was at it. She ran as if her life depended on it. And in her lust-filled mind, it did.
Virisk continued, no longer caring if she lost her Chaser. If she did, it was his loss. The wind of her run felt good on her fevered hide, especially her outstretched wings. She could see a hill before her. Virisk wanted to get to the height of that hill more than she wanted much of anything right now. She darted for it.
It took her less time to reach the top of the hill than she thought it would have. When she reached the peak of the rather small hill Virisk took a deep breath. She wanted to fly. She snapped her wings out fully and rocketed down the hill. While it wasn't enough for her to fly, or even glide, the momentum and height did allow for Virisk to float somewhat. Her feet barely skimmed the ground as she floated down the hill.

((Due to lack of activity, and a desire to finish up this run, Trinsk has been deemed the winner of green Virisk.))
