IC Date: Late September/ Early October IC Time: About 2:00 PM IC Setting: The day is bright and sunny, with scattered clouds and a temperature that belongs more to Indian summer than true fall.
Sasath stirred formlessly in her sleep and twitched an outspread wing. The female blue sprawled on her side in the sun, wings open and absorbing the sun's heat as they had been for the last four or five hours. Right after her early morning bath and oiling, the female blue had flown to the rim of the Weyrbowl and gone back to sleep. Nocia, for her part, hadn't been so enthusiastic about the early wake-up call, especially because it involved a cold lake at an hour of the morning that was anything but warm. Now the blue rider had settled back in her weyr, looking for that book on hawks she'd been reading the night before.
Sasath stirred again and a radiant cornflower blue wing actually fluttered against her side. The triple eyelids flickered, closed and popped open as tones of red and orange flowed across the whirling facets. The heat and basking for the last couple hours had finally triggered Sasath's rising. The rush of emotions took Nocia aback for several long breaths, giving the female blue time to stand and launch herself to the feeding grounds.
Nocia jumped from her seat, goggle-eyed. Sasath was rising now? She had been particularly finicky about her bath at early o' clock this morning and her hide had been gleaming more than usual, but Nocia had thought the relief of the transfer and settling in to their new routine on Earth was responsible, not an impending Flight. The bluerider scrambled to follow Sasath to the feeding grounds. With a bugle, the female blue announced her flight to any who had failed to see her streak across the sky.
Blood it, Sasath! Don't you dare eat that meat. Nocia ran towards the female blue as she sank her teeth into the throat of a cow. Sasath let go of the cow long enough to shriek at her rider. Sasath's eyes were a true crimson as she whipped her head around to catch sight of any gathering males. Flaring her wings, the female blue hissed and snarled. She wanted meat, but her rider was firm. With a fierce lash of her tail, Sasath tore into the cow's throat and drank furiously. The red of blood looked shocking against her pale blue hide.

Brownrider Y'ume Y'ume sighed as he felt that he didn't do enough for the Weyr. They are supposed to be a Searchrider pair and yet, they could not actively search for Candidates here on Earth. They always had to do it discreetly, usually having Y'ume going incognito and approaching the potential Candidate while Firenth hid somewhere. It was a good thing that Firenth's ability to sense Candidates were sharp enough that he could even do it through their link. However, having to go to Pern and back again was also a tiring ordeal since it takes more than just three breaths to go Between from planet to planet. He looked at the napping Firenth wondering how the dragon felt. His private silent musings were interrupted when Firenth suddenly stirred.
Firenth snapped awake all his eyelids opening and faceted eyes showed a whirl of red colors. Even in his slumber, he had heard the bugle of a female about to rise calling for the males to chase her. A female calls, Y'ume-Mine. he said to His as he stood up and quickly stretched his limbs. It was a good thing that he'd just eaten that noon so he didn't really have to blood a kill. Nevertheless, as soon as he felt limber, he said, Wish me luck, Mine. as he walked towards the weyr ledge, squeezing through the canvas door that hid the entrance of the weyr from outside prying eyes and kept the weather out of the weyr. When he passed through the canvas door and was outside on the ledge of the weyr, he launched himself into the sky heading towards the Feeding Grounds where the female would probably be blooding her kill.
Y'ume had startled when Firenth suddenly awoke disturbing the flits who were also napping in the weyr. He was busy lulling the flits back to sleep so he wasn't able to pull the canvas door aside for his dragon. He was glad when the flits settled down and went back to napping after Firenth left their weyr. Y'ume wondered who the rising dragon was and who the rider of that dragon would be. Since coming to the Rocky Weyr, he felt bad that he hadn't been really mingling with the others even if by now, Firenth knew the name of the dragons in the Weyr and who their respective Riders were. When Firenth leapt out of their weyr to join the flight, Y'ume scrambled to catch up to his dragon, going through the hallways and stairs in haste towards the Feeding Grounds.
He wore what they call here on Earth, a white v-neck cotton shirt, a pair of blue jeans, and a pair of sneakers. It was warm and sunny despite the fact that Earth was supposed to be in the Fall season. However, Y'ume didn't have time to enjoy the weather as he ran to where the feeding grounds was. Hopefully, this time around the rider for the female dragon will be somewhere in sight so that he won't have to go looking for her like he did that day that he and Firenth arrived at the Weyr.
Firenth glided down to the feeding grounds expecting to find a green dragon, but was instead surprised to see Blue Sasath blooding her kill. Instead of being put off, the sight of Sasath blooding the cow and her female scent was enough to make Firenth lust after the female blue. He bugled a greeting to let her and the other males know of his intention to join the flight and chase after the female blue. Afterwards, Firenth said Greetings lovely Sasath. I, Firenth, shall answer to your call. as he dipped a bow towards her and trilled in appreciation at the blue dragon's gleaming hide. When he stood back up on all fours, he said to His I chase Blue Sasath. Hers is called Nocia. sending an image of Sasath and as well as the female riders that was currently at the Feeding Grounds.
Y'ume finally caught up with his dragon as he neared the feeding grounds noticing Firenth and a blue dragon. Y'ume was confused at first until Firenth told him who they were. When he was close enough to the female rider, he was surprised to see how young she was. If he wasn't mistaken, she'd be as young as Nakia. He didn't remember formally meeting her so, he introduced himself to the female since he didn't know if she minded whether or not she knew the riders of the dragons that chose to chase her blue dragon.
He hoped to Faranth that the female rider was not yet merged with her dragon to be able to hear him speak. "Greetings Bluerider. I'm Brownrider Y'ume of Brown Firenth." he said and then added, "I hope you're okay with me joining." as he ran his hand over his hair to try and put them to order having had it dissheveled as he ran from his weyr to where he was now. Already, he could feel a rising lust for the rider of the female blue dragon just as Firenth started lusting after the female blue dragon. He and Firenth were starting to merge like they always do when Firenth joined mating flights.

"No. It was bad enough that you chased that green-gold monster, but a female blue?" S'tor's eyes met Ryath's as he tried to impose his will on the brown.
It was Ryath's fault they were trapped here, anyway. Entirely the dragon's fault that he was not on Pern fighting Thread, hadn't even graduated...would he? Surely they would do something.
And now the dragon wanted to chase another female-ridden monstrosity. And S'tor was losing his battle. Losing it to the rising tide of lust. Pretty soon, he wouldn't care that the abomination was the wrong color for its gender and probably hadn't been given firestone to boot.
They had to stop the greens here from *breeding* before this place...heck, this world...got overwhelmed. But who listened to a weyrling brownrider.
Not even his dragon! S'tor actually growled at Ryath as the brown spun and launched from the ledge, streaking through the air towards where the blue blooded her kill.
Which left the brownrider with no choice but to stalk towards Nocia's weyr. He hoped Ryath didn't win. Of course, if he did, maybe...
S'tor's mood was not one conducive to romance, but the dragonlust that flowed through him did not so much push aside his anger at his dragon as mingle with it, a growing and rising tide of emotion.
Nocia might well be very, very glad if S'tor did *not* win this particular flight. He needed to convince Ryath to stick to greens...no way could he demand celibacy of a dragon even if he didn't want to add to the clutches of abominations...
OOC: Yeah. S'tor, in bad mood.

Balderth had been out basking in the warm rays of the sun. He may have appeared to be laying on his stomach, zoning out on the view, but he had his eyes focused on one particular thing. Sasath. The shiny female blue was in the feeding grounds! He had to be quick. Leirona. Sasath, the blue siren, she calls to me. I cannot refuse!. The behemoth brown launched like a rocket from his ledge, bugling to the blue wonder. In the back of his mind, something reminded him that blues were male. However, Sasath's scent was unmistakably female.
Leirona could feel the warmth of the blood sliding down her throat thanks to Balderth. This rising lust was not unfamiliar to the brown rider, but it was very uncommon. She felt herself being drawn to the weyr of the bluerider. She was not surprised that the rider of the female blue was a female herself. She joined the small crowd around Nocia. "Bluerider, I am Leirona of Brown Balderth. He chases your Sasath."

Wings spread to catch an updraft, Streeth soared above Rocky Weyr. Daniel was atop his back, relishing the warm sunlight in the cold of the sky. The were flying for a good while when Streeth began looking distracted and kept starring at a certian spot the ground. Finally, when he started circling whatever he was scrutinizing, Daniel had to ask, What'cha lookin at my dear?
His Blue answered in a preoccupied manor, It looks like a Blue, Mine. But i get a strange tingly feeling when i see it. I think its Rising!
From his seat he couldnt see what was down there very well, but he guessed that the light blue dot by the lake was what Streeth was referring to. Daniel thought to his dragon, Well, there IS supposed to be a new Blue here that is actually female. That might be her. I assume it is.
Without batting an eye the Blue closed his wings and plummeted towards the ground, Daniel hanging on for dear life. As he dropped, Streeth informed his rider of what was gonna happen, D'nielMine, I am going to Chase her... But i suppose I should put you down first.
When they came dangerously close to the earth, Streeth snapped opened his wings and angled for the few people standing near the gorging Blue, relishing the pain caused by so many Gs against his wings. They landed, skidding to displace their extra inertia, and before the dragon had even stopped his rider was on the ground trying to pull off his harness as fast as possible.
Hurry hurry hurry D'niel! move faster! I do not want to be left behind! Streeth fidgeted in agitation, this would be his first flight and he wanted to be on time.
"Stop moving and it'll be off in a sec!" Dan wrestled with the harness a moment longer and finally got it off. "Alright, GO!" But streeth was already gone, shooting for a cow a few dragon lengths away. While he blooded his kill he bugled his presence to the illustrious and unique female blue. Saphire beauty! Blue Streeth has arrived!
When his dragon left, Daniel trudged over to a group of a few people and the rider of the female blue, Sasath was it? When he was in speaking distance he bid the lady good day, introducing himself formally with a, "D'niel, rider of Blue Streeth here." He gave her a little smile and was silent.

R'ner and Blue Noxceventh
R'ner jerked bolt upright from his prior position of flat on his back on his weyrledge. "Nox? Not again, really. How many greens are there for you to chase, you horny devil?" He grumbled, staring at the navy-blue dragons that had leapt to his feet beside his rider. The dragon's whole body was shivering slightly, as he sniffed the breeze. Yes. And No. Sasath rises. She is blue, not green. So there. Noxceventh said, a definite smug tone to his voice. Rainer just let out a disgruntled sigh and heaved himself to his feet. Checking to assure he was indeed decent to present to the blue's rider, he leapt onto Noxceventh's shoulders, clinging to the blue's neck with his knees for the short glide to the feeding grounds.
The distinctly unique blue landed fast, half-dumping his rider to the ground outside the pens before making a strained leap over the fence to stand within a respectable distance of the female blue. He settled back, most of his weight on his one remaining hind leg, his head tilted so the stripped-to-the-bone side of his face was tilted to the sky and his good eye was on her. And then he greeted her. Radiant Sasath, the morning sky does not compare to thy beauty. He began R'ner let out a sigh. Why, by the first egg, did his dragon insist on waxing poetic whenever he chased? I, Noxceventh, greet you, and intend to win you, Sasath. The blue finished, a note of confidence in his mindvoice.
R'ner just bit back another sigh, narrowed his eyes, and politely cleared his throat by the young bluerider- he knew her to be near eighteen turns, he remembered, but she looked far younger at that particular moment, and despite the welling of all sorts of less than chivalrous emotions flowing through him, he fought them long enough to bend slightly at the waist, almost a bow, and greet her with as much formality as he could muster. "R'ner, of Noxceventh, at your service, my lady rider." He said, though his breath hitched a little. She was actually... very beautiful. He couldn't help his almost catlike smile as he looked back up at her. "And it is my greatest pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Ari and Brown Dracouth
Dracouth's tail twitched, beginning to lash slowly back and forth on the floor, making a slight soft scraping noise with every movement. Ari raised her head from her work, slowly setting the needle and tread and torn shirt she was mending down on her desk. "Dracoouuuuth..." She said, already knowing by the strange but now familiar bubbly feeling in her chest what had him disturbed. She dashed out onto her weyrledge, shoving the canvas aside to see the familiar brown and gleaming blue hides of chasing dragons on the feeding grounds...but where was the green...if she'd flown already then...no.
Dracouth was now beside her, blinking sleepily but clicking his jaws together as he woke. Sasath. She is blue! But she is female. I shall chase her, Arianne. I shall win her. Her dragon's catlike sense of confidence made her smile...Ari thumped the huge tiger-striped brown affectionately and snatched her coat from it's hook just inside the entrance.
"What are we waiting for, then, love?" She said. In a flash, the dragon had her on his neck and they were making a mad dive towards the feeding grounds. Dracouth pulled up lazily at the last second, slamming into the ground with a gruff bellow to announce his presence. Ari slid off his back, tightening her coat around her- she recognized most of the other dragons, from the mangled deep blue to the paler blue belonging to one of the Earth weyrlings...and, of course, the brown belonging to the snobbish, elitist young man S'tor...Ari smiled grimly. Perhaps... ah. She would have to have words with the lad some time, on the subject of female riders and the like, but later...now, right now, she was a little distracted...
She folded her arms across her chest and grimly raised an eyebrow at the brownrider. She knew she could pull off the appearance of a young boy with little effort, and with the heavy leather jacket and her short-cropped hair, she looked more a weyrling boy than an experienced female rider right now. Shards, even when she spoke, it was with the attitudes and mannerisms of a male. It had served her well in the past from being taunted by her wingmates, but now...
She colored slightly as she caught sight of Nocia. The young woman was lovely, soft and sweet and gentle-looking. Ari clenched her fists inside her cloves, mentally dmaning her own rough hands and stock build. "G-greetings, miss Nocia..." She breathed, barely audible. "Ari, of Brown Dracouth..."
Dracouth shouldered his way past some of the younger dragons, silencing them with a snarl, stopping just out of reach of the stunning blue female. Dracouth has come, Sasath. He said, the deep brown banding his eyes making the lavender-tinted lust in them stand out.

Weyrleader Kain and Bronze Gorth "Don't you dare...!" Kain scolded his bronze. Gorth ignored his rider. His wing was healed; he knew that but Kain was having trouble believeing it. And Gorth had decided he would Chase this time. And Kain could do nothing about it. But what Kain didn't know was that this female was blue, not green. Sasath is blue. And I will chase. You should get down to Nocia. Gorth told his rider bluntly as he lept into the skies. He angled down for the feeding grounds, where several other dragons were waiting for the blue female to take the skies. As he waited Gorth downed a bull and blooded him. One bull was enough right then, since Gorth had eaten just the other day. Blooding that single bovine was just assurance that he had enough energy to chase. And he was also not going to repeat the mistakes that had cost him Cherath's flight. "Cursed bronze!" Kain yelled at his bronze as he took the skies. He grumbled to himself as he felt the flight lust begin to build inside him. He began jogging towards the feeding grounds, where the rising female's rider was. Nocia. That was what Gorth had said her name was. At least the rider was a woman this time. Cherath's rider had been male, and Kain was secretly glad Gorth hadn't won that one. Kain reached the feeding grounds to see his bronze in the throng of chasers. It was almost comical to see the bronze there; he towered over the other chasers with ease. Barely supressing the laughter he felt at the size comparison, Kain bowed elegantly at Nocia. "I am Kain, rider of Bronze Gorth. A pleasure to meet you, Nocia."

Sasath tossed the cow away with a flick of her head. That one was done. It was almost flattering to the female blue that so many had come. She was worth it, of course, but the dragons at Southern hadn't followed her into the sky like this on her first flight. One blue had chased. Now four browns, two blues, and even a bronze had blooded for her flight. The female blue reached out with a taloned paw and snatched up a second cow. Her teeth sank into the cow's throat and she braced her neck muscles to pull away a chunk of the flesh.
"Don't you dare," Nocia yelled at her dragon when she saw the female blue tense. "Blood only! You can eat after your flight. If you eat now, I'll have your head on a platter." Nocia fought to restrain the female blue. In Sasath's first flight, shock and fear had spurred Nocia to prevent Sasath from eating, but now all Nocia had to pit against Sasath's will was her own. With a muffled shriek, Sasath ripped into the cow's throat and drained the blood from the beast. The female blue dropped the carcass and looked up to the hard, bright blue sky. Sasath lowered her eyes to look over the cows speculatively and quickly fixed her gaze on a smaller, brown one. One more should be enough. The blooding had brought different instincts to the fore, and the female blue no longer resisted the command to blood. This smaller brown cow was quickly disposed of and Sasath flicked her tongue around her jaws to get any blood left on her face.
Then, with a challenging bugle, she took a great leap into the air and the chase was on. Sasath would not be easy to catch. Even without the blood giving her quick energy, she had more stamina than a green and was far more agile than a gold. Her size, that of a particularly small brown would make the flight difficult for all the chasers, used as they would be to females on the two ends of the draconic size range. It would take tactics to win her flight.
As Sasath raced away from the Weyr without looking back, Nocia turned to return to her weyr. Her sight was blended with her dragon's and sometimes Nocia only knew where she was going because her feet were navigating the path back to her weyr from weeks of practice. She sensed more than saw the other riders around her. Nocia forced out, "Thank you for introducing yourselves." She wanted to say more, but flightlust and the state of her sight, wavering between sky and Weyr, made it impossible.

Ryath was airborne, and he was a strong brown, quite worthy of such a rare treasure as the female blue. He sensed his rider's anger at him, but he did not care.
Like most dragons, a female tail was one of the few things that could cause him to ignore his rider, and there were certainly plenty of...interesting and attractive females here. He wished he had firestone, then he could truly impress her, but he not smelled a pebble of it recently.
Not a pebble. He hated those who had sent him here for a moment. Not S'tor, of course. He knew from his rider's mind that it was not the man's fault. Then his thoughts were gone, washed away in a wave of purple.
The blue was the only thing that mattered, and he could feel his rider's tension. His desire to catch and his desire *not* to catch.
His inner, mostly well hidden, disgust for the woman and her dragon, but it was not enough to stop Ryath from throwing himself into the chase. She was an unusual size, larger than a green, far smaller than a gold. Perfect to be caught by a brown, he thought as he shifted through the air, seeking currents he was, as yet, not fully familiar with.
An older dragon, cunning, would have an advantage in this fight, but Ryath intended to give it his best.

Noxceventh/R'ner The elder blue took his time, knowing the younger dragons would be more likely to fly straight off after the blue. So he instead swung his claws at a small beast, draining it of it's lifeblood in the meantime, taking energy from the warm liquid. He stepped back a bit, his good eye whirling with amusement, anticipation, and pride. He snapped his wings out experimentally, testing the weaker of them with a shake, and, finding himself strong in both body and spirit, he leaned his weight into a crouch and leapt upwards.
His wings labored a moment to get him airborne, but long practice with standstill takeoffs meant he was gaining altitude fast- and that was all that really mattered now anyways. That and the beautiful speck of sapphire loveliness above. He surged upwards, following her path with one intent- to win. Tactics were his strong point, and he knew to not underestimate any female, especially one so unique as Sasath. Luckily, he knew a thing or two about the flight patterns of blues.
Dracouth/Ari When Sasath finished blooding, it only took her bellow of challenge to have Dracouth answering with his own roar of acceptance. The hefty brown was on his feet in an instant, but, unlike the brown who rocketed after her so swiftly, and the more nimble blue who also simpley leaped into the air, Dracouth had a different strategy.
Brawn was good for something after all. The stripy brown set off overland for a bit, gaining momentum- he was a heavy beast and takeoffs like the others had done would be to long and laborious for him. So instead, he sped forwards, claws tearing slight divots in the earth, until he reached a ledge, and leapt upon it, jumping to a higher point and slamming his wings in a mighty downstroke in tandem with a leap outwards. Not elegant, for sure, but it would get him on that delicious blue's chase faster.
Ha. Who needs style when you are as awesome as me? The dragon thought smugly, even as a wash of exhilaration swept over him. No way Sasath would out-fly him, nor the other dragons. He was strong, he was powerful, and he could outlast them all.

With her bugle of challenge and leap skyward, the Rising of Blue Sasath commenced. Streeth shot up after her almost in the same instant as she left the earth, beating his wings that were filled with the power of the blooding and flight lust. He surged after her without thought, blinded by her glorious scent and beauty. He bugled his acceptance of her challenge and infatuation with her radiance.
Dan, following Nocia, turned back for a moment and saw his Blue tailing Sasath. Even in his desire clouded head he knew that that was a brainless move. In an effort to give His more of a chance, he mind-shouted, You dunce! Back off! She's not a green! You have to take your time!
Streeth didnt respond, but he did slow a little to give her a few dragon lengths of space. He wanted so badly to just overtake her and not have to worry about the other males winning. This was his first flight and he desperately desired to be victorious so he could have her. Blast his inexperience!

Rider Y'ume and Brown Firenth Firenth watched as other dragons began arriving at the Feeding Grounds to blood their kill in order to give chase for the flight that is definitely to come. As he waited for the tantalizing female blue Sasath to finish blooding her kill, he had an urge to go blood his own kill. And with the thought in mind, he saw a likely bovine and with a pounce and a snap of his jaws killed it and drank its blood dry. After he was done, he liked his blood chops, his eyes already swirling in the color of mating frenzy. Once Sasath bugled a challenge before taking a leap into the air, Firenth was among the few males that leapt in answer of that challenge. He gave an answering bugle of challenge to the males that have decided to participate as he saw them fly off after Sasath. He was a healthy and fit dragon and able to land and take off into the sky without having to do a pre-flight run. He crouched low to the ground and sprung up with his mighty hind legs as well beating down his wings to lift off the ground. He may have been the last to fly after Sasath, he may not be the youngest in the bunch of males that were chasing after the lovely blue dragon, but he had experience and that should be more than enough to win this chase.
Y'ume let his dragon take the lead in the merge between their mind as he was among the last riders to follow after Nocia. Y'ume didn't know where they were headed, but like Firenth, he was lost to the lust that now rode him as he tried to navigate his way without having to bump into obstacles along the way. He had gotten used to the double sight of looking with his eyes and seeing through Firenth's eyes in the sky as well as his own on the ground. But, being in a new weyr, it was still hard for him since he didn't know the place all that well yet. He mumbled apologies as he bumped into servants that came out of nowhere that were on their way to work.
Y'ume/Firenth slowly followed after Nocia/Sasath as Nocia walked back to her weyr/Sasath flew away from the Weyr. Y'ume/Firenth was slowly gaining on Nocia/Sasath while trying to ignore the other males that came too near her.

Gorth lept into the air after the blue Sasath. He was eternally grateful he was not the last into the air. Gorth followed the rest of the flock following Sasath, waiting until the others had bugled their acceptance of the blue's challenge. Gorth filled his lungs with air, then roared so loudly that his body shook, along with more then a few trees below him. He laughed to himself. Kain was certainly going to get a verbal lashing from Faizah for Gorth's answer to the irrsistable blue female.
Sasath...
Nocia...
Kain followed urgently after the blue's rider. He was as gone to the lust as his bronze was. But he did manage to flinch as he heard Gorth. That cursed bronze was going to get him in so much trouble. And not only with Faizah. Ammon wouldn't be at all happy about this either.
Kain's vision blurred with that of Gorth. Spread out before him was a vast amount of sky. But a movement caught attention to the side. A gleaming blue hide. Kain gasped, but found himself back in his own body, still following Nocia.

((OOC: For reasons of time, I'm going to pick in my next post, even though round-wise this is really short.))
Sasath had flown a good distance from the Weyr by now, but she was not anywhere close to done. With several deep wingstrokes, the female blue pulled further ahead of her chasers. Then, without warning, she swerved sharply to the right, so sharply it seemed she must break her back if she continued the turn. The turn continued, however and without visible injury to the blue. In fact, Sasath turned so far, she crossed her own flight path and ended up flying left, the opposite direction from the one that she had begun the turn in. Rumbling with laughter, she looked over he shoulder to see who had made the turn.
More land raced by under her blue wings, as Sasath gloried in her Flight. It was a heady feeling to be so desired, to be the object of such adoration. A rippling shudder ran from nose to tail as Sasath called to the chasers, I hope all you handsome males have kept up, I wouldn't want any of you to lose me now.
Only half noticed by the rising female, the ground she flew over was changing. Trees were becoming more spaced out and the grass patchier. What really caught her attention was the sudden strip of tarmac the female blue saw beneath her. As she looked ahead, Sasath saw small metal flying things that could have only carried one or two people on the ground and and in the air. They weren't even as big as the military planes she'd seen before, so it was understandable that the blue did not recognize the small planes as planes. Setting her path towards the air traffic control tower, Sasath roared her superiority to those silly metal flyers. She dove suddenly. using the momentum of the dive to slingshot herself around the air traffic control tower and back towards the clouds.
The sharp turn in particular had taken a lot of energy out of a body not necessarily made for that kind of agility and her chest muscles were burning now. Even so, Sasath forced herself higher and away from the airfield. It was a good test, but not a place to end a flight. Finally, her wingstrokes grew weaker. Feeling as if the weight of her wings was dragging them down, not her own pumping, the female blue turned her head to survey her chasers.

She had some stamina. More than any green Ryath had ever chased, although perhaps less than the odd one who was as much gold as green.
He would at least be there at the end, strong brown wings still carrying him forward. Oh, Ryath was tired. Exhausted, even. As Sasath played with the planes, he simply flew, pretty much straight on. But he would not show her he was tired. He would not show her he might barely have the strength for the fall that must come at the end of his flight. Some small part of his mind, something in the back, said it was bad for them to be here, amongst these odd machines.
It might well have been S'tor, but Ryath could not care about anything other than catching the brilliant azure female.

Gorth flew after the receding glimmering blue form that had his undivided attention. He watched her turn sharply. He knew he couldn't pull that, but he was far from done with this chase. Gorth began turning, a wide and slow turn, but soon he was only a few feet behind glowing Sasath. His lungs were burning and his throat felt sliced by razors from his ragged breathing, but this bronze was not giving up.
I hope all you handsome males have kept up, I wouldn't want any of you to lose me now.
She had called out to them. Gorth felt his blood soar even more in the flight lust. He didn't dare lose her; now more than before.
Gorth noticed Sasath dive. She had spotted a small airstrip, apparently not recognizing the metal planes humans without dragons used to fly. He barely recognized them himself. He heard her roar of challenge at the same time he began to dive after her. He tried to follow close behind her, but his larger body was not made for that type of movement. His hindlegs touched the concrete of the airstrip, then pushed off so that he could continue the chase at a better angle of ascent.
Gorth's breath was beginning to feel like acid in his lungs, which were setting a new definition to the description of burning. But he noticed Sasath begin to slow. He knew she would soon choose.
Soon...

Streeth was trying his best to keep near Sasath. He didn't want to fall behind his competitors when such a fine creature as the Blue was on the line. He pumped his wings steadily, counting the strokes to distract himself from the pain. He could not led fatigue win! But then she was winging away and his heart sunk. She was getting away! He could never catch her at this rate! She had just too much stamina! But no, that was quitter talk. Such words had no place at a time like this.
With a grunt Streeth prepared to let out a burst of speed to catch up, but before he could so drain his remaining strength Sasath made a tight turn to the right. He felt that if she could do it, he could do it too. He continued on a moment and then made his own turn. Instead of turning Eastward he went in a Nor-Eastern direction, keeping his wings close to his sides but leaving them out just enough to steer him in whatever direction the Female Blue decided to turn. His belly to the sky and his spine nearly folded over itself, the Male Blue could feel his organs fighting the direction his body wanted to go. But go he did.
When she finished her turn, he kept following, his wings beating erratically. He momentarily registered that they were near one of the places with metal birds. Airplanes, he corrected himself. But he didnt have any time to think about that because Sasath was being unpredictable again. For now she was actually flying TOWARD the airfield! Luckily she was there and gone by the time he reached the strip so he didn't have to do any fancy maneuvering there 'bouts. He was afraid he would run out of time, however. His wings were twitching now, and a film of sweat covered his slate blue hide. But he had to keep going. His young body would be able to recover later, when all this was over. His resolve soared as he noticed her begin to slow, giving him new vigor. A little more, he could go a little more.
Focused on the supple form of of the cornflower blue female, Streeth was able to see when she began to look back. She was looking! she would choose soon! He was unable to contain his winded bugle of elation as his chest swelled with hope. He was still there chasing and he so desired to win the illustrious Blue beauty. For a moment he forgot his weeping limps and he shot out of the pack of other males, flashing his lighter underbelly and striated wings for her to admire. See? he seemed to say, i am a prize worth having too. While this may have been a daring and pompous act, he truly wished for her to take at least a momentary notice of him. Oh, if only she would notice him!

Noxceventh crooned in delight at Sasath's elegant, back-breaking flip, impressed by her agility. He would hardly have dared follow her actions, not with his injuries, but he was swifter than any brown either way. She was daring, impressive, beautiful...
He trailed her unerringly, following in her wake. She shot over forest and then they burst out above a strange collection of metal birds, silver and shining. Noxceventh glanced back, tentatively, to see if there was recognition by any of the others- one of two seemed to know what the odd metallic objects were, so the Pern bred-and-raised dragon let it be, simply swerving to avoid a tall tower full of baffled-looking humans. Noxceventh let out a rumble of laughter and let the tip of his blunted tail tap ever so lightly on the pane of a window.
Rules be damned; he had more important things to attend to. Like the glorious blue ahead, and the race, and the tiring of his wings and his chest. She had to pick soon, she HAD to...
Dracouth felt smug in his strength, watching some of the smaller blues begin to tire. As they hit the airfield, he let out a surprised grunt and swerved upwards. Did they not realize the imminent danger here? These places were forbidden...but even as his fears and the weyrleader's words echoed in his mind, Sasath's beautiful blue hide caught his eye, and all caution fell away.
The brown dove after her, catching up to the pack and outstripping some of the others. He didn't move with speed, but he rose above, letting his larger size rival the blue chasers, and his strong chest puffed out proudly to show he was far superior to even the other brown. Surely HE was the choice to make.

Ryath was, yes, still there, although he had drifted a bit away from the pack. His rider's hesitation about letting him fly the freak blue interfered, but now his lust had taken over again.
He would...do his best to catch her. As the other brown showed off, Ryath snapped at him, threatening to try and bodycheck him out of the flight. He dismissed the blues as competition, focused entirely on trying to intimidate Dracouth out of the way so he would have a clear line at Sasath.
Of course, focusing on another male instead of the female was not always the smartest of ideas, and Dracouth was slightly the larger of the two...
