Today’s chilly morning found the rider Hy’ka clinging as tight as he could to the back of his chimera dragon. The weather was cold and unforgiving as the dragon took them both down into the weyrbowl. Hugging the green-tinted blue hide of the dragon, Hy’ka had to wonder why he didn’t just walk around inside the weyr, like the other riders. Nope, he just had to go outside, forcing Brynath to carry him into the weyrbowl. Groaning, the rider shoved his face against the blue’s neck, willing his riding furs to keep him warm.
Hy'ka, we are here, the blue dragon informed his rider after the short flight down the weyr ledges. And please... Get inside quickly? You are very cold, and I am too. I'd rather not see you freeze! Brynath touched down in the snow on the ground of the weyrbowl, that had fallen overnight. His large limbs buried themselves into the snow, and Brynath felt the need to clear out a path for his rider to walk. He used his forelimbs to shove mounds of snow out of the way, before he hunkered down for Hy’ka to climb off.
Reckless as usual, Hy’ka jumped off the back of the dragon, and landed on two feet. Except, he didn’t stop there. With a wince, Hy’ka’s knees buckled, and he fell to kneel on the frozen ground. “Auugh!” he cried out, bowing his head. “That... That was stupid--!” Hy’ka berated himself, shaking his head. “I’m fine, Brynath, just give me a moment...” Hy’ka rose to his feet, only to stand with his weight shifted to the left.
Hy'ka! Brynath nosed his rider, having moved forward to curl protectively around the young man when he fell. Are you alright? You hurt yourself, didn't you? That was bound to happen...
The rider hissed through his teeth as he tried to put weight on his right foot. “Yeah... Figures, right?” Hy’ka rolled his eyes. “Bound to happen sometime... But no matter... I should be fine in a few days!” the chimera rider beamed, hobbling forward in an attempt to get inside the weyr. However, he found his passage blocked by Brynath. The blue dragon surged forward to curl his body completely around Hy’ka’s. “Bryanth? Come on, I’ll be fine!”
We are going to the infirmary, and I'm going to carry you if you protest this. As soon as Hy’ka’s mouth opened to say some retort, Brynath already had his teeth on the back of the rider’s jacket, and he lifted up the man as if he were no more than a newborn pup being carried by his mother. No. You are coming with me.
Brynath was right, and indeed did carry Hy’ka into the dragon entrance to the infirmary, despite the rider’s whining. The chimera quickly set Hy’ka down in a chair, where he could wait until the doctor was free... Or even awake, and Brynath hovered over his charge like a hawk. Frowning, Hy’ka crossed his arms and leaned back in the chair, sinking down into it in his annoyance. His foot did hurt though, and when he moved it, it throbbed dully with pain. Maybe... Brynath made the right choice in forcing his rider to go to the infirmary?
It wasn’t too long before the two fire lizards bonded to Hy’ka felt his emotions, and woke up, winking between from their respective sleeping places in Hy’ka’s weyr. The rider was startled, but not surprised when Kivral and Supernova made their appearance, chirping at him in their concerned way, before the gold claimed the spot around Hy’ka’s shoulders. Kivral, kicked out of his usual spot by the younger fire lizard, hissed at Supernova, but curled up in the rider’s hands without another sound.
