Tad shuddered. "Well, at least neither of you turned out anything like her."
They must have rebelled into niceness. He'd seen that happen before. Some kids wound up just like their parents. Others managed to be the complete, total and utter opposite of where they came from.
He was much like his father, but that was a good thing in his case.

Mentari nodded. "I remember Faizah reading us fairy tales. Especially about unicorns, pegasus and dragons. There were stories about people who did magic. My favorite one was the movie Peter Pan. How they saved Tinkerbell by repeating that they believe in fairies..." She smiled slightly.
Mentari didn't want to dwell on everything Faizah had done for them.

Tad grinned. "That's a fun story. I always liked that one myself. Sometimes I think it would be nice to stay a kid forever."
Kimath, in some ways, had that eternal child about him. "And hey. We have *dragons*. That beats any fiction, doesn't it."
And the real dragons were nice, friendly creatures. Sure, they ate whole cows, but they wouldn't hurt their riders or anyone around and were as affectionate as any horse.

Mentari nodded enthusiastically. "Yes. Having the real thing is much better than the stories. Without a doubt and without hesitation."
((sorry about my fail post))

"And the dragons in the stories eat fair maidens, rather than choosing them to be their partner for life." Yes, there was perhaps something a little flirtatious in Tad's tones.
Perhaps. Of course, Ladeth would have some say, likely...dragonrider relationships had to get complicated. Love triangles? Not *nearly* enough sides around here.

Mentari smiled and a small blush graced her cheeks. She had heard the flirting tone in his voice. "And they kill the handsome knights, instead of choosing them to be their lifepartner." Was she flirting back? Yes. Yes she was. Very unashamedly.
Mentari hoped that Kimath would chase when Ladeth rose to mate. That would help if she could look forward to Tad being one of the possible winners.

Tad snorted. "Good thing I'm not a knight, then." Which was an amusing image.
"Of course, now I have an image of Kimath all done out in barding. I wonder if he'd tolerate...nah, would take too much material."
Maybe he could inflict the idea on Cobweb or Nag next Halloween...much more manageable in terms of size. He grinned at her. "You are definitely a fair maiden, though."

Mentari shook her head. "Every girl is a princess and every boy a prince. Or fair maiden and knight." She smiled delightedly.
Mentari tilted her head slightly to the side in confusion. "Barding? What's that?" She asked honestly. Whatever it was, Mentari was sure she could get Faizah to agree with it. Ladeth done out like something from a Reinassance Fair? That would be awesome.
She heard his last comment. Blushing, Mentari could find no words to come out of her mouth. She was speechless.

"It's something they used to put on horses...like...colorful pieces added to the harness. It would be hard to do with a dragon, though. The wings get in the way."
Then she turned scarlet and Tad felt his own cheeks color. It had just come out, really, without him thinking about it. And now he thought about it, it was a line. And lines were bad. Lines were not how you actually got a girl's attention...and he seemed to have handed her tongue to the nearest cat to boot...

Mentari was still blushing as she spoke. "I'm sure Faizah and Kain could come up with something similar. If we wanted to do something like that with the firelizards or dragons. Might look cute." She attempted a smile, but was still blushing.
Was Tad flirting with her? She couldn't tell. It seemed like it, that was for sure.

Tad grinned. "Cobweb, for example, is already cute. But some kind of...hrm. Maybe a collar? A pretty color would look good on a firelizard."
It wouldn't be hard to make at all, would entirely depend on whether the flit concerned was willing to wear it. They'd probably be perfectly capable of simply removing it if they didn't like it.

Mentari nodded. "He sure is. Perhaps someday I will be fortunate enough to get a white flit. They seem the cutest of all." She smiled.
"A collar? That would be interesting, to say the least." Mentari paused.

Thaddeus grins. "Or maybe flit jewelry, although I think of Cobweb as male. I know he isn't really, but I just can't quite see him as a girl." He studied the black flecked white for a long moment.
"He's a very cute firelizard, though."

Christopher decided to make sure they knew he was still there. With a trill the blue rubbed his head lightly on Mentari's cheek. Then he crooned to Cobweb, trying to start his own flitter conversation. Mentari smiled and rubbed his eye ridges, just the way he liked.
"All fire lizards are cute. But a line of flit jewelry would be interesting, to say the least." Mentari said.

Tad grinned. "I'm not the one to do it, although I could do leather. But I'm betting *somebody* in the Weyr does beads or something. I should look around, see if I can track something down."
The grin did not fade at all...he couldn't help it. Of course, they would have to think about colors for the different colors. "And Cobweb could wear anything...anything goes with white!"

Mentari laughed at Tad's comment. "I can do beads. I've been learning how to attach them to fabric lately." Mentari offered. She continued to rub Christopher's eye ridges.

Tad considered that. "And I'm good with leather...having no problem with the harness making we have to learn for the dragons. So, that's two possibilities right there."
It was funny how their idle talk had suddenly drifted to a potentially viable project. After all, the riders here had few duties, although if their existence ever came out, he wondered if they would not be used as an SAR force.
Or by the military in a more active manner, but the fact that dragons did not, generally, hurt humans would get in the way of that. Except for a few, and those were considered insane. Crucith. And he'd heard Ryath was sent here because there was no firestone...

Mentari nodded, thinking similiar thoughts. She had often wondered how Faizah and Kain began a conversation about the weather and it would end with a list of chores that needed done in the Weyr. Now she knew how it happened! They just let the conversation flow.
Mentari wondered what it would be like to be able to actually take Ladeth and show her off to people. It wasn't an active thought on her part, but Mentari was thinking it no less. The life-style of being caged up in the mountains didn't really suit the young girl. She wanted to be able to go into town and go to the mall or something. Taking Ladeth with her, of course.

OOC: We should probably think about wrapping this...it's turned into a really long thread.
Tad stretched. "Eh. Let's think on it. And not discuss it with our dragons. I get the feeling dragons, especially greens, gossip worse than middle school girls."
He flickered Mentari a grin. She was, fortunately, rather older than that and not, as far as he could tell, inclined towards gossip. And quite pretty, too.

((You want to take it to another thread? Or no?))
Mentari blushed. She had been thinking similiar thoughts about Tad. He was handsome, to Mentari. "Ladeth isn't really prone to gossip. I know Nakia's green flit is. Missy is very much the gossip. Though I understand where you're coming from."
