Breakfast. And Loren had been woken up particularly early by her Woruth. The blue had been hungry.
She would be glad when the young dragon was hunting for himself, although at least some of the Weyr's dragons preferred to have their riders present anyway. Hopefully, he would not be one of them.
Now she sat in the common room, one hand curled around a cup of coffee. She'd tried the Pernese equivalent, which they occasionally brought some of. Bleh. She'd stick to coffee.
It seemed that all humans everywhere had caffeine and alcohol. As if civilization could not manage without both of those substances, and people would find them wherever they looked. Or look for them wherever they went. "We're a weird species, humans."
Dragons were far less strange, far simpler in their needs and their desires.

"I've been saying that for years now." A voice came from the entrance.
Faizah walked into the common room, surprised to find someone else up and about this early, besides herself and the servants/drudges of the weyr. Surth and Reyna were still sound asleep, thankfully, giving Faizah some much needed time away from draconic influence.
She smiled at Loren, trying to think of the name of the girl's blue. Kimath? No, that was the simpler blue... Nyketh? No, that was the Pernese weyrling's worrier blue. Woruth? Hmmm, that sounded about right. Must be Woruth.
"How are you this morning, Loren?" Faizah asked, sipping her hot apple cider.

"Wishing Woruth hadn't decided getting up before dawn was fun today. And once I was up..." She sipped her coffee again. "No sense going back to bed."
She studied the Weyrwoman for a moment. This woman was in charge of the place and rode the huge white dragon. Which identified as male, but was not...not really. Woruth was definitely male.
"I'm starting to come to the conclusion dragons are just much easier to deal with. Less complicated, less crazy emotions." Of course, Woruth probably wasn't quite as smart as she was...a gold might have been, but blues were relatively... Then there was Tad and his Kimath. She did not envy him...she'd heard him explain the same thing to his dragon for the third or fourth time, after all.

"Whaaaaat? But early morning is the best time to be awake. It's cold, and pretty, and obviously, breakfast foods." Tag apparently had no problem whatsoever busting in on other people's conversations. Of course, Tag happened to almost always be up roughly this early, but he only slept a few hours a night. One of those really annoying people who only needed like, four hours of sleep.
At the weyrling's words (Loren, right? She had a blue, he thought he remembered...) he shrugged, a difficult task considering the dangerously full cup of coffee he was holding. "Wait til your dragon gets older. And You have a flight-eligible dragon. Talk about crazy..." Not that he knew from real experience, but he saw what it did to others.

Faizah laughed along with Tad. "I agree. Early morning are cool. But sometimes you just want to sleep until noon." Faizah told him.
She turned back to Loren. "I agree. Dragons are much simpler than humans. Hundreds of years of "superior knowledge" only gave us time to become a complicated social species." Faizah said. Afterwards she wanted to knock herself out. She was beginning to talk too much again. It was causing her to talk like a scientist...

Loren shrugged. "Well, I have one advantage. I'm not particularly concerned about the gender of any potential sexual partners." Which was not that surprising given the girl had, after all, bonded blue, not green.
"Which has to make it easier than if you're a strict monosexual. On the other hand, I CAN think of a few people here I'd rather not wake up next to. That S'tor gives me the creeps and makes me very glad Woruth isn't a green."
No risk of ending up in bed with the brownrider, who seemed to dislike her for no reason she could fathom. Maybe he just didn't like Earthers...

Tag frowned. "Yeah...I'll stay faaaar away from him. He seems to have something against weird dragon mutations. which means Hal and I? Not going anywhere near him." He waved a hand and tried to ignore a niggling feeling of irritation as she mentioned her...'preferences'.
"Mono...eh. Yeah...I should probably figure out this whole 'dragons and multiple partners' thing. It would save me a lot of trouble." He grumbled, glancing at Faizah. "Superior knowledge? Whatever do you mean by that, my dear?"

"That doesn't explain the looks he gives me. He gives me these...glances like I'm something he would be scraping from the underside of his foot and Woruth is perfectly normal."
Loren had even considered going to Pern. Woruth was normal, if one of the Weyrs there would take the pair. SHE would stand out...none of the Pernese quite counted as black, but...
But she was not sure about leaving Earth, possibly for good. "Well. Dragons just...do it, you know. Without any of the entanglements."

Faizah shrugged at Tag. "How humans are supposed to be smarter than animals. I don't believe it, but most of the human race does." She shrugged again.
She listened intently to Loren and her concerns about S'tor. She had to agree. Something had crawled up his butt and refused to come out. She just hoped he would be less severe as he adjusted to living on a different planet.

Tag clicked his tongue. "Smarter, right. I'm guessing none of those people have ever met a cat." He said with a sight. He dropped his head onto his arms and glanced at Loren. "Yeah...not all dragons..." He shrugged, a rather weird action with his current slightly-boneless pose.
"S'tor scares us. Hal doesn't like him, and neither do I...though, I really think he's kind of a misogynist...he seems to have a problem with girls. Ah...women, I mean. My apologies to my present company."

Loren nodded. "He does, doesn't he." She furrowed her brow. "Of course, he could just be taking out on us the fact that he got exiled from Pern because...I suppose there's something wrong with his dragon, but I don't know what it is."
Ditz appeared, settling to the bluerider's shoulder and demanding a share of her breakfast. Rolling her eyes, Loren fed a scrap to the green.
"Maybe he's one of those guys who's ego has to put him above women and he's afraid he's wrong all the time? I don't know. I've met sexist pigs before, of course...they exist everywhere." Not all of them were even men.

Faizah smirked. "Yeah. Sexist pigs are out there everywhere..." She agreed. Faizah had seen her fair share of them. But she wasn't about to admit to that.
She looked at Tag. "You ok?" She asked him, noticing his odd pose. She arched a brow at him.
