Cioeth liked the lake. Soon, Tiffanie supposed, it would be a lot easier for the chimera dragon to get to it. The blue shimmer of her hide seemed to mingle with the water, at once more visible than usual, then she looked like a regular, ordinary, green. Nothing special.
Tiffanie stripped down to a bathing suit and joined her dragon in the water. Some of the Pernese were casual about social nudity, but she was not about to pick up THAT habit. Swimming with her dragon, though, was quite enjoyable, once the first cold shock of the water wore off. Once she warmed up, she floated in the water.
This was the life, she thought. Of course, she might have been willing to go to Pern and risk her life, but they would never allow Cioeth. Not in a million years. She was perfectly healthy, but they feared her. Feared the difference in her genes that had been passed on once.
Of course, the chimera dragon could be rendered infertile easily enough...but that would not matter. So, they would remain here. Remain here on Earth... "So. What place will there be, in the end, for dragons?"
