Flying with a dragon took some getting used to. Loren now understood how the early open cockpit pilots felt.
Except not. The sense of the wind under Woruth's wings drifted through their bond, the blue's joy at doing what he was born for. They were keeping it short for now, building the young dragon's stamina.
But what did they fly for? Loren sometimes wondered that. She'd considered volunteering to go to Pern, as Woruth had no deformities and there there was an enemy to fight.
On the other hand, her friends were here. Leaving them struck her as a sort of betrayal. So...for now at least...the dark-skinned bluerider stayed.
Company would, she thought, be a good thing. Woruth agreed with her wordlessly. He was starting to really notice that greens and other females were 'different', too. He'd be chasing them soon enough.
"I can't believe you were a hatchling so recently, Woruth."

Brittany squealed as Useckoth dove and twisted in the air, relishing the feel of wind on his soft, If hard with muscle wings. He giggled, rumbling his laughter for all to hear. Oh, what beauty the sky hods for us, my love! he crowed, swerving around a cliff as he had done countless times in the past few weeks.
She laughed at the goofy, dreamy sound of his voice, as well as with the exhilaration of the flight. Sweetheart, Any sky would be beautiful with you in it! She hugged him through the harness, knowing that she would do anything for the high flyer that had dreams he would touch the stars.

"Careful of that cliff there!" Loren called to the other rider, knowing that while Brittany likely would not hear her directly, dragons made good relays.
Her tone was mostly teasing, of course, as Woruth leveled out his own flight, the dark-skinned bluerider quite comfortable on her dragon at this point.
Quite comfortable, but there was still that faint hint, that ragged edge of danger that made doing this worthwhile to her. She enjoyed flying, and she hoped to always do so, until both she and Woruth were old and creaky.
