Alright. So it wasn't the best position to be in, but shards, what choice did he have when his lifemate had been damn fool enough to do what she had done.
The lithe young man slid from the saddle at his dragon's neck, dropping to the ground and letting out a wearied sigh. He pressed his head against his bondmate's side for a moment, and the beautiful green dragon curled her neck around to affectionately nuzzle his wavy hair.
K'vai pulled back and rubbed her forehead reassuringly. She flinched slightly when his hand brushed the crossed scar on her face, but he just hushed her soothingly.
"Matching set, eh?" He said, kissing her injury delicately when she complained.
Always, my love. Lureth replied. She sat back and glanced around, examining the Weyr's main entrance with her own personal brand of scrutiny.
I suppose it shall do. But I think we are too lovely for this Weyr, Mine. It is very...dull. The green smugly flipped her tail around her legs and sat back.
K'vai just shook his head and tugged his coat around him. Sure, it had been cold back home, but here it was almost worse...later in the season perhaps? No matter. He adjusted the thick scarf around his neck to cover more of his face and looked around. Hadn't his wingleader at Fort (who was now so terminally ashamed of him he could barely stand to LOOK at K'vai again) said there'd be someone to greet them?
Well...it was late afternoon...coming on evening, actually, if the dim light slowly fading away was any clue. So maybe he was just interrupting dinner...?
A sound made him turn, a voice coming from a nearby hallway. A very grumpy, surly voice. A girl's voice...oh. Well that made it far less interesting.
And then she turned the corner. A thin woman, a scruffy halo of blonde hair ringing her face, sea-green eyes and a supremely irked look that was tantalizingly familiar... she glanced up and down at K'vai, and looked unimpressed. K'vai was about to write her stunning resemblance to a dead rider off as cooincidence when the woman's eyes widened, and she made a squeaking noise.
"Shards. It's YOU. I mean, the scar threw me, but...it's YOU." She said. Trinity was...well, floored. She'd come up because they'd told her to greet the new rider coming in, but... had they known? Perhaps...she'd heard the rider was from Fort Weyr, and it wasn't a secret that so was Trinity, but...oh dear. Kvai...her closest friend when she'd when Colith...when...
She stepped back, not sure how to react. The rider seemed to not know how to react...and then Lureth lowered her head and hissed.
You smell of dragon. But not anymore.
K'vai held his breath and let it out in an explosive sigh. "Trinity. You ARE still alive...I...we...thought you'd gone between forever after you impressed that wher...you disappeared." He shoved his hands in his pockets, not sure of what to do. He'd been devastated when he'd heard what happened to her dragon, and then, when she'd gone between with that crazy wher...everyone had thought she'd gone to follow her dragon...
But here she was...no wonder his Weyrleader hadn't told them where she'd gone...
Trinity smiled slightly, and brushed her hair from her face.
"We came here, of course, dimglow. The wher and I, I mean..." She frowned at that- so did K'vai. He knew very well her extreme dislike of whers in general...
Lureth growled softly at them both. Stop that. i am bored now...please, let us go.
K'vai just laughed. "Oh, calm down, you. Have a little patience? Don't you remember Trinity? She rode Colith...you flew with him once, remember?"
Lureth's eyes swirled faintly as she tried to remember, but her near-perfect memory of her flights and the mates she chose served her well in this case.
Yes....he was pretty. We were very lovely together. She said, with a hint of fondness. Where is he?
K'vai was about to answer, but Trinity cut in.
"He...he went between." She said, her voice cracking. Lureth twitched slightly, but only said Oh. That is sad. and dropped the subject.
K'vai cleared his throat, awkwardly, and glanced at the skinny, sickly woman who had once been the most vibrant woman he'd known at Fort. (Aside from himself, of course...)
Trinity glared at the floor and crossed her arms over her chest.
"They said they were sending another rider up soon..."
((AH> Help, someone. I'll drown in too much excess exposition...!))
