Shut in from the cold outside, Rafael chose to spend his time inside the library at Rocky. Rumor had it that the library contained scrolls from Pern, complete with early Pernese texts as well as more modern information. Rafael shivered with excitement, not from the cold. This would be his... second trip to the weyr--the first one being an introduction as he met the weyrwoman and weyrleader. A lovely group of people, no doubt. However, Rafael Werden wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to study these Pernese scrolls for himself.
He quickly ran inside the weyr after being dropped off by a helpful dragonrider, and asked the first person he saw to direct him to the library. Grinning, Rafael offered the weyrling a thank you in a thick, German accent, and slipped into the library. He had offered his hand to the librarian for her to shake, introducing himself as Herr Rafael Werden, the historian from Vancouver. He had received strict instructions on to be quiet and respectful inside the library, to which Rafael heartily agreed. Of course he would be respectful...
The historian picked out a dusty Pern scroll from one of the shelves to the side, and cautiously unrolled it. It was a scroll about Flights and Hatchings, from Fort Weyr, and included the sire and dam of each clutch, along with each of the dragons that were produced. Interested, Rafael tucked it under his arm, and plucked another scroll from the shelf. This one was all about thread fighting formations, such the best wing formations for certain kinds of clumps of thread. The historian tucked this scroll under his arm as well. When Rafael had gathered a couple of scrolls and two thin books about Pern, he resigned to a big red armchair off in a corner of the library.
The German sunk into the armchair, glad to be sitting, and laid out the scrolls and books on the coffee table in front of him. Leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees, Rafael stared at the clutter. Which one to start with? He poked at a few of the scrolls. They were interesting enough, but it would be best to start from the beginning. Rafael picked up the more worn of the two books, and flipped through it. It was a small, somewhat inaccurate depiction of what Pern was like. Rafael skimmed through it, out of curiosity, but quickly put it down, favoring a Pernese scroll instead.

Kumiko had decided to check out the new library. She had always wondered what they knew about Pern. She didn't even know that much, and her dragon always had to translate during lessons. It was hard not knowing English.
"I hope I can find something interesting to read...Maybe they'll have some books I can understand!
It was then she realized the other man in the room. She chuckled slightly and waved.
"Hello!"

Nomics loved books. L-O-V-E-D them. He would read all day if he could. But alas, being a Bronze rider meant he actually had to DO stuff. So when he realized there was a library in the weyr he went straight there. Literally. While someone was telling him about it he excused himself and hurried away to find it. Now he was finally there and was virtually salivating over the collection of volumes, most of which involved Pern. He Skimmed titles, looking for something Fiction. He finally found a nice thick one with blue leather binding and yellowed pages. Perfect. He plopped down on the floor right there and cracked it open, smelling the papery scent of the pages. He promptly began reading.
A little later he heard noises. Someone was here too. Interesting. But he was so engrossed in his book he felt disinclined to get up and say hello. If someone else comes, i will get up and say hi. He decided. He turned back to the book, its pages filled with pirates and buried treasure.
Not long after the first interruption, another person came. Nomics sighed Fiddlesticks. Ahh, i guess i can finish it later. He got up, joints a little stiff from sitting on the floor for so long. He walked over to where noise was now coming and stopped. He studied the people there. One was a man in what seemed to be his late thirties and a girl in her late teens. The man looked mildly familiar. Hmmm. where have i seen him before?
Try snooping on him last week to figure out who he was. Faizah finally had to sit you down and tell you he was the historian and that he was, in fact, not here as a Russian spy. Indeed, he was German and didn't know a lick of russian
Nomics then remembered. Oh yeah! He was pretty suspicious, though. I mean really, he was totally checking out the Dragons. Looking for their weaknesses.
Thats his job. To study the dragons. Faizah told you that too.
I still think he is a spy. Nomics replied stubbornly. But then he was distracted by a strange and melodious noise. Japanese! Yurith, the girl speaks Japanese!
Apparently
OOO! but i love Japanese! it sounds so pretty! His dragon merely sighed at HisRider's childish ways. Nomics now stood excitedly off to the side, still watching, waiting to be noticed.

Rafael was content to sit in the big red armchair and immerse himself in the Pernese scrolls, if it wasn't for one thing. The other person in the library. The librarian, Rafael was able to learn from his brief meeting, didn't tolerate loud and disturbing noises. Rafael finished up the paragraph he was reading, and was about to glance upwards when an unfamiliar voice and language caught his attention first. The unfamiliarity forced him to look up. What he saw was a young woman dressed in an odd style of clothing. Judging by his own history lessons, Rafael deduced that she was wearing a Japanese style of dress--definitely Japanese heritage.
The historian adjusted his brown glasses, pushing them up the bridge of his nose to look at the woman. "Um... Can I help you?" he asked, lowering the scroll. "I'm afraid I don't speak Japanese," he cautioned, making a guess as to the language that he was being addressed in. Figuring that it would be more polite to stand up, rather than sit like some mastermind, Rafael rolled up the scroll partially, and set it on the table. "Ah, I'm Herr Rafael Werden," he introduced himself, doing his best to keep his German accent out of his voice (it didn't work too well).
Standing, Rafael offered the woman a hand and a smile. He was going to say more, but a movement out of the corner of his eye made him pause. "Oh?" he murmured, seeing a man to the side. "Greetings!" Rafael said in a hushed whisper. Despite it being a weyr's library, where there would be no college students bustling about, Rafael had a natural urge to suppress his voice into a quiet whisper. The historian jerked his head to the side, indicating that the man should come over. "Well, come on over here..."

Having been invited to join the conversation, Nomics stepped over so as to be able to speak softly and still be heard. This was a library after all. "Howdy! Im Nomics of Bronze Yurith. Glad to meet 'cha." The Bronze Rider then offered his hand for a shake. "What brings you to this side of town? We dont get many visitors, as you may well know."
As he was talking, he was also studying the young Japanese girl. She seemed nice enough. But his thoughts were interrupted by Mari popping into the air above and screeching obnoxiously. Sighing inwardly, and outwardly, Nomics chided Mari, saying "Oh, come now! You know how you are supposed to act in a library! Stop this foolishness and come sit on my shoulder like a good conceited Fire Lizard." Instead of complete compliance with His, Mari latched onto Nomics' arm and hissed angrily at the others. Shaking his head, Nomics apologized, "He is just a jerk. You would do well to ignore him." But still loving his little bundle of egotism incarnate, the Rider dutifully scratched the tiny Bronze's eye ridges in a rather affectionate manor.

[ooc: Just an OOC note, with Kumiko now under Faizah's control, and Faizah being MIA for the most part, we're assuming Kumiko left. Some time as passed as well... Or something. :x]
As the newcomer made his way over, he announced who he was, and held out his head for Rafael to shake. The historian grasped it in a firm hold, shaking the rider's hand. He introduced himself as Nomics, of bronze Yurith. He was most definitely Pernese, Rafael concluded upon hearing the man's name. "Glad to meet you as well, Nomics. I'm Herr Rafael Werden,” the German responded, repeating what he just said a few moments ago. “Ah, I’m here to visit the library… I’m a historian, and I figure it would be beneficial to both Pern and Earth to learn as much as I could about Pern."
Rafael paused, knowing that he shouldn't talk so much, but the prospect to talk to a real Pernese rider was too great for him to resist. Thankfully, the Japanese lady dismissed herself quietly, having to attend to something more important. "Nice to meet you, uhh..." the German trailed off, since he realized that he did not know the woman's name. "Well, still nice to meet you, even if we didn't talk at all, and you seem to be speaking Japanese, which I don't understand... And I don't even know your name," Rafael murmured, waving the girl off silently.
An obnoxious noise cut into the goodbye, and Rafael looked over to Nomics to see a bronze fire lizard pop in out from nowhere. "That's your flitter?" he asked, smiling a tad as the rider struggled to gain control over the pesky beast. "He's a jerk? Well I'm sorry to hear that. Too bad he doesn't know to be quiet and respectful in a library..." Rafael managed a small chuckle, and glanced off to the side, where the librarian gave him a stern look. The historian clamped his mouth shut, and mouthed a "sorry" before looking back at Nomics. "I'll be sure to ignore him then."

Hearing the historians accent and name Nomics said, unthinkingly, "Oh! You're German! I love German! Oktober Fest For The Win!" He laughed, because there was SOOO much more to the German people than their annual festival. "Im here for the books too, but im more of a fiction kind of guy." He said as he showed his pirate book.
When the girl expressed her desire to leave, Nomics said, "Oh, ok. I dont actually know you, but Japanese is totally awesome... So you are awesome too! Well, bye then..."
Nomics took note of the Librarian and, instead of looking morose at being the cause of a mild reprimand, smiled grandly as if there was not a problem to be found with anything in the world. He then turned back to Rafael and said, "excellent, in that case, you two should get along fine."
Suddenly remembering something of the utmost importance, Nomics asked, "Sooo, have you ever been anywhere other than Germany and the states? Like, say, Russia?"
As Nomics asked his question, Yurith rumbled in both amusement and vexation at HisRider's foolishness and persistence.
