The moon had long since risen above the horizon, and its shining, sweet face was overhead, hidden from view from the sleeping fire that was Samira.
She was restless, and hot, for though the night held frigid temperatures and little heat reached her, she had longed removed her blankets from herself, creating a nestlike structure around her. Keno and Porli were gone, maybe have a late night hunt, or maybe sleeping in the comforting heat of the Hatching Grounds. But if Samira was but restless, what was Xenith?
Her hide had taken on a brighter shade lately, and she was much more....mature? Demanding? Overall queenly? Something. She could not sleep for the feelings within her were swelling, feelings she had not experienced before now. Now, with the moon reaching its zenith in the sky above, she could not hold herself back.
It was time.
She jerked her head back, crying out with a lust that she didn't understand. She had no recollection of such a feeling, but what did that matter now? It was happening now! She dove off of her cushions and out of the weyr opening, going straight as an arrow to the enclosure where beasts were kept for those who did not wish to hunt. She cared not which she had, but only that she got it, and soon!
Samira came awake with a gasp, her small, delicate body being wracked with heat and shivers at once. Though she had been expecting this, and had known for quite some time that it would happen, nothing could have prepared her for this. It was Xenith's time, her maiden voyage.
No, my love! she screamed both mentally and physically as she felt rather than saw her Impressed Queen dive for a large cow, with all intentions of ripping it to pieces instead of blooding it. Blood! The blood only! even in the shocked state she was in, the young Queenrider knew the part she was supposed to play, and while it was a fairly small one, she would play it right.
Xenith hissed savagely as she buried her teeth into the cows' necks, one after another. Finally, when she was done, she stood over the bloodless sacks of bones and roared out her challenge:
I fly the moon's path! Chase me if you are able! Catch me if you dare![/b][/i]

Uthekielth had been having a rather good day, and as he was going to curl up with His, instead he heard the cry of the golden beauty of the small Weyr. 'Mine! I Chase golden Xenith this night!' Without giving his startled rider a chance to reply, the massive Bronze launched himself into the air and went between to the Feeding Grounds. There he saw the Rising Xenith and crooned his reply. I answer your call, glorious Xenith! I, Bronze Uthekielth, shall Chase you this night! He then plowed a cow into the ground, quickly blooding his kill. Before Xenith could launch herself back into the air, he grabbed another cow and drained that one as well. With the energy from the blood now flowing through his massive body, he again took to the air and circled the young queen, tapping her gently with the tips of his wings as he crooned adoringly.
Z'ran was quickly awoken by Uthekielth's statement of Chasing and as he sat up, the Bronze took off. Groaning, he muttered, "We practically just got here, and you're Chasing? Great way to make an impression, Uth." The Bronze, however, ignored him. Before Uthekielth's lust crashed over his mind, he was able to find a pair of his wherhide pants and drag them on. Now to find...Samira, was it? Z'ran wandered outside, glancing around. She would surely be with Hers, rather than in a weyr, and paced around the shelter, hunting for the Rising queen's Bonded.
-----
Although Kiranth was sleeping quite fitfully, Savana was unable to sleep and was taking a walk to try and calm her mind. However, the challenging cry of a Rising dragon seared across the link between dragon and rider, and the dainty woman stopped mid-step. She knew Kiranth would Chase, whether the Rising female be Green or Queen. Go on, love, and win her, she told her now wide-awake Brown. Now to hurry back to the shelter and find the dragon's rider...
Kiranth's eyes had snapped open the instant he heard Xenith's call, eyes whirling a lustful red. Regardless of Savana's approval, he took to the skies, winging for the Feeding Grounds. He dropped on top of a couple pigs, draining the blood from their bodies before turning his attention to Xenith. Ignoring the Bronze flying around, he sang, Glorious golden Xenith, you outshine the moon this night! This Weyr would be lost without your light! The world would be thrown into chaos without your beauty! I hear your call and answer your challenge! I, Kiranth, shall follow your divine light to the ends of eternity and only hope you find this Brown worthy to be in your presence!

Jackaloth, still somewhat sore about losing the green Pixieth, had sensed that the young Queen was getting ready to fly. And he had been only blooding his kills since he had decided to Chase her. So there was no surprise for this brown when her cry split the night air. Jackaloth jumped into the skies, having already blooded just ten minutes earlier. He took notice of the bronze and other brown, but didn't bother worrying about them. Jackaloth was a dragon who knew his abilities, and he was probably more agile than either of these dragons. He was not worried!
Tamahome had known Jackaloth would chase again. And the night found him wide awake, sitting on a ledge as he watched the dragons gather around the young Queen. He could feel the heat of Jackaloth's lust, and he knew he had to find Samira soon. The rising lust would not allow him any other choice once the actual flight began. With a sigh Tamahome got to his feet and began heading towards Samira's weyr. Fly well, Jack! He called out to his brown.
Jackaloth hovered above and slightly to the right of the young Queen. He heard the bronze and other brown call out and answer her challenge. But they only answered with words. Jackaloth had a better idea, despite possibly getting a verbal lashing from Weyrwoman Aurora later in the day.
Without another thought Jackaloth let out a ground shaking roar, accepting Xenith's challenge to chase her. His roar not only rumbled across the ground of Isle Weyr, but it disturbed the water as well. A small pod of bottlenose dolphins were disturbed, jumping and leaping across the waves, heading away from Isle. Jackaloth paid them no heed, however.
Queen Xenith! I, Brown Jackaloth, answer your challenge and shall Chase you to the ends of Earth and Pern!

Samira was half blind as she stumbled from her weyr, wearing only a big t-shirt and underthings. Only half of what she was seeing was what was around her. The more vivid majority were things she could not be seeing, things that Xenith responded to. She saw the browns and the bronze, and the limp sacks that had seconds before been live, thriving beasts. She was still feeling those waves of desire and lust, growing ever stronger as the kills were blooded. She had to find her! Where was she! She was supposed to be there!
Xenith see and knew each of the males about her. Jackaloth, Weyrleader's Brown dragon. Bronze Uthekielth, of Z'ran. Brown Kiranth, of Savana. They had chosen to accept her challenge. But which would Catch her? Time to find out.
With one last critical eye cast over each of her suitors, she flung open her wings and leapt straight, toward the moon and its loose, starry wreath. She was ready, and was willing to do anything, but she was careful, critical. She must choose wisely who would sire hereggs.
She must see strength and speed and cunning and vigilance and bravery and any number things in the one she chose. And she knew how could start.
She had noticed seveal days ago that there was a great wall of loose rock on one of the cliffs nearby. She had seen beasts there, and had nearly caused an avalanche tying get away from her hallucinations. She had not been allowed to go out since then, her Flight being so obviously in the coming.
She would finish what she started. An avalanche so close to nowhere in particular with no human being for miles, except fpr the weyrfolk wouldn't beso badz. Now would it?
She slowed her flight speed just a little, and raked one talon across the loose boulders. Immediately, the avalanche began as a small rock the switched so many switched, so to speak, that it went all out.
When the rocks settled, the dust would not. They would have to find her.
samira had given up onfinding her love. She saw what was going on. She had slid down a wall just inside of the feeding grounds door to the weyrs. She saw no one else. Yet, at least. They were probably asleep themselves when she called, Sam decided. After all, it was fairly late.

Uthekielth felt a nag of irritation at being outdone by a mere Brown, but then Xenith leapt into the air and his irritation was pushed aside. He had to remain focused on the rising Queen or risk losing favor for one of the Brown Chasers. He stayed close to the pale Gold, but he was forced to veer off once the rocks started falling. The dust would not stop him! Relying more on scent than sight, he tracked her scent through the dark cloud of dust. It would take more than a lack of sight to divert him from such a beauty!
Z'ran couldn't find anyone else outside of the Weyr, so Samira must have wandered in her daze. He bee-lined for the Weyr, intending to find Samira regardless of where she was.
-----
When Xenith leapt into the air, Kiranth spread his wings and took to the air as well, though the Bronze had a slight advantage for already being in the air. But the Bronze Chaser would not stop him from winning Xenith! Even if it took all of his strength, he would not lose her to such a raging beast. Seeing the falling rocks, he steered clear of them, rising above the settling dust. Surely such a gleaming gem would shine through even the densest of dust clouds. Her light would be impossible to smother on such a night as this! Trusting his instincts, Kiranth folded his wings and dove back into the dust, pulling up near Xenith.
Savana was already back in the Weyr, somehow knowing that Samira wouldn't be outside. She would explore the personal weyr are before the rest of the Weyr. Surely she'd find the Weyrwoman soon.

Tamahome, on his own way into the Weyr, saw Samira. It looked like she was heading inside, and he decided to follow her. Before that, however, he would introduce himself.
"Samira...I'm Tamahome, rider of Brown Jackaloth, who now Chases your Xenith." He murmured, feeling a fresh wave of flight heat.
Jackaloth followed as close to the golden wonder that was Xenith as he could. He was flying close enough, however, that he was able to see her in the dust after she caused a rock slide. The con of this was that he got hit by a few flying rocks as he followed the lovely glowing gold hide of gorgeous Xenith. Even the moon was outshone by her this clear night. And Jackaloth would not lose his chance to win her.
He refused to give up!

Xenith watched what each of the three Chasing beasts did in order to find her, intent on choosing which would best sire her young ones. She had seen already their charm as they responded, now for their cunning.
Uthekielth, of course was the only Bronze to fly, and hence the greatest in size and stature. He was straight, to the point, which could be good. He had relied on instinct and senses in the dust. Good, but not enough.
Now, Kiranth was young, and a Brown. He had a poetic touch, but that iheld no favor, nor disfavor, with the glorious Queen. He was wordy, and expressive both, unlike some droning dragons she had met. Like Utgekielth, he had relied on senses, but not a special, harder sense, and he had veered to swerve away from her rock slide.
And then there was Jackaloth! Another Brown, but he was the most expressive, as well as the oldest in the Chase. He was experienced, as well as the Weyrleader's dragon. He had stayed with her in the thick cloud of choking dust. Perhaps him?
Maybe.
She whipped her head around, checking to see if any had fallen behind or dropped out. None had. Good, they had stamina. They would need it if they wished to stay in the Chase.
With a trumpetting cry, the majestic dragon, so adored by those ancients who had believed in her and populated the islands and lands below, dove first down, and gaining speed, lashed upward once more. She flew straight for those whos hides were dull and dirty and those who contended for her. But she cared not for the very real fact that she may crash into one. Her eyes were for the moon and her gentle face. She was, as she had claimed in her challenge, following the moon's path.
Samira shivered as she watched through eyes not her own. She heard feet and wings move in unision, tying to reach her. Would they? she wondered. Will they catch me?
At that moment, someone stopped in front of her. She did not recognize the face, her vision as passion and lust blurred as it was. She caught snatches of what he said. Tamahome. Yes, of Brown Jackoloth. She knew him.
With surprising grace and agility, the young Queensrider stood and took step forward. She wanted to - No! Dear one, you musn't! she cried, knowing, seeing what what going through her beast's mind, of her daring plan to chase the moon. But first she had to get there! Get to the moon-that-was-Pern! Away from this place!
Later, Samira would remember with a groan that Xenith's visions came without rhyme or reason, and were often begun with some other, strong emotion. This time it was lust, and yearning. A yearnign of love and home both, perhaps. She wanted to go home, and the only way to do that was between!

In a moment of instinct, Z'ran turned a corner inside the Weyr and was the second to find Samira. Brown Jackaloth's rider Tamahome was already there. Even through the Flight lust, Z'ran knew his manners and bowed respectfully to the goldrider. "Samira, I am Z'ran. My Bronze Uthekielth Chases your Gold Xenith," he introduced. He then flashed a slight glare at Tamahome, but then turned his attention back to Samira.
When Xenith came shooting back up from her dive, Uthekielth twisted just enough to avoid her crashing into him, but not enough to completely turn away from her. As the Queen flew past him, he let his tail trail across her glowing hide, leveling out from his bank. Following behind Xenith, he pumped his massive wings to bring him closer to her glorious golden form, unwilling to let the Browns outshow him. He would not lose Xenith to mere Browns! To show his stamina and agility, while not as nimble as the other colors, Uthekielth pushed himself slightly past Xenith and set himself into a lose spiral around her, folding one wing partially to maintain the spiral. Glorious Xenith, these other males do not prove themselves to you, they merely follow and adapt. I would do anything you asked and more!
-----
In his own attempt to show off, Kiranth followed Xenith's dive, folding his wings to his side before snapping them back open, veering up behind her. Surely she would see how hard the young, inexperienced Brown was trying and deem him more worthy than the older, more experienced Chasers! He could feel the burning in his wings, but knew that for the sake of trying to win, that he had to push past to show his determination. But with the Bronze blocking all sides of Xenith with his spiraling, Kiranth wasn't sure of what he could do to attract Xenith's attention. An idea struck him, and he went with it. He shot past Xenith and the Bronze, pulled up and brought himself to a stop, casting his silhouette against the moon. He hovered there for a moment, then pulled his wings to his body and dove, gaining speed before tilting his body back up, using the momentum from his dive to hurtle back up to Xenith.
Savana was the last to reach Samira, but unlike the two men, she did not introduce herself. She was one of the riders who remained silent until she needed to speak, and she would speak once the decision of who would be Xenith's winner was made.

Like the other brown Chaser, Jackaloth followed Xenith in her dive. However, unlike the other brown, Jackaloth allowed himself to dive into the water before shooting back up. Water droplets feel from his now less dusty hide, and they sparkled in the moonlight. At that moment, Jackaloth gained an idea.
Ignoring the bronze and younger brown, Jackaloth shot upwards. He slowed down some when he shot past the moon, making sure the moonlight caught the sparkling water droplets raining from his still wet hide. Jackaloth turned his body to face Xenith, in all her glory, and said one thing to her.
The moon is no match for you, Xenith, glowing gold in the night.

((Your cruddy post is excused, dear. We all have our moments.))
Xenith fell back witha wild cry as the Brown leapt before her, blocking her forward path to her home. How dare he, so much lower than she, do this! How dare he stop her, how dare him do such a thing! With a snarl, the gleaming Gold back-pedalled, attempting not to fall through the air, to stay where she was Queen of All the Sky. She was not yet through, and they did nothing yet chase and Chase, following and showing off! She would Fly away from here!
Turning abruptly on the tip of one wing, she charged at those waiting for her, waiting and doing nothing. She plowed between them, scraping them with her wings, no longer caring that she may very well fall. She could feel her power, her strength, slipping away, little by little, bit by bit. Soon she must stop. Soon, yes, very soon....
She would wait until she had no choice!
Straining her wings to the limit, her labored breaths creating ghosts of white in the air, she struggled to reach the sea. She thought of something Sam and once read, written by someone, she didn't remember who: "Lady of moonlit night / Reach to the lord in the sea / Caress in the waves." Would he be there? She hoped. She was getting so very tired.
Sam fell against the wall, supporting her back with the cool stone. She was shaking, both from Flight-lust and from pure exhaustion. She caught the glare toward Tomahome and the blank expression of the woman whose Brown Chased her Majesty. Tomahome was reserved. What would happen? She was not....
She bit her lip as she felt her wings shudder with the impact of the cooler air above water. She would choose over the sea, the sea that had always proved a mystery. The disturbed dolphins followed her straing shape, calling up to her, beckoning to come. But she couldn't leave just yet. No, not yet. She would stay awhile yet.

Kiranth saw Xenith coming at her Chasers and twisted his burning, throbbing wings to avoid a collision. He hoped Xenith would chose her suitor soon, else he would have to drop out. But he would have to outshow the two other males to regain favor with Xenith after accidentally cutting her off. With such little energy left, though, he wasn't sure what he could do.
With the colder air over the sea, Kiranth dropped slightly before fighting his way back up, sheer determination causing him to fight through the burn.
-----
Uthekielth could feel his energy waning as well, but he could still fly longer, unlike the young, untested Brown. The Bronze felt he needed to come up with something to set himself apart from the Chasing Browns, and cast a quick look about for ideas. Once they hit the open water, he managed to maintain his position, unlike the inexperienced Brown. The older Brown, Jackaloth, was proving a worthy adversary, and he couldn't help but feel a bitter respect for the Brown.
But his attention still remained on the Rising Queen. Pumping his large wings, he pushed himself over the cold ocean to propel himself closer to Xenith, crooning a soft tune of adoration.

Jackaloth watched the younger brown drop, knowing that his recovery would be hard. But then he focused on the bronze, his only real competition. The bronze was larger, better for gold flights, and he had more stamina than Jackaloth. Jackaloth was only a brown, but he was able to chase both greens and queens.
There was a reason that Jackaloth had become the leading male dragon of Isle, and it was not because he caught green Faith. In fact, most of the time he did not even chase the commanding green. It was because he was just as determined as any chasing bronze, and tonight was no different.
Jackaloth knew he wouldn't last much longer before he would have to drop out of the flight. His stamina had been tested, and his entire body was beginning to hurt. Gold Xenith had given them a good chase. But now it was time to give it his all, even if it was the last act he could do in the flight.
Jackaloth sped up as Xenith raced over the frothy waves. He was on the opposite side of her as the bronze, and Jackaloth sized him up for a moment from the corner of his eye. Then he turned up the speed a little more, using whatever strength he had left in his sore wings. Jackaloth managed to pull ahead of Uthekielth and Xenith. Just enough so that she could see that he was there; there for her alone. Jackaloth crooned to her.
I am here, Xenith.

She was mindless, crazed in the clear night air as she shot over those ancient waters. She felt nothing but the burning in her wings as her strength ran out, as the back of her lust deadenned mind schreeched at her to choose, to finish, to fall. She wanted to fly and sleep at once, but instinct told her the latter was safer, that she could not continue much longer.
She swung her head to glance at her suitors, noticing at once the young Brown was losing his battle against the Chase. She knew that if he did not turn back, he would fall from the rank of Chaser and fall from the air, utterly spent. Go Kiranth, you have not met my standards. Leave this Chase.[/i] Xenith voice was soft as it called back to the laboring Brown, full of both respect and adoration, for she loved the Brown that had risked much to Fly her, though he had failed.
She now had two suitors left, the Weyrleader's Brown and the Junior Weyrleader's Bronze. The Bronze was the practical, more traditional choice. He was stronger and had so much more stamina. He was great and magnificent. The Brown though, he was of a strength thatsurprised her, and he had pulled her out of her "homeward bound" vision. He was lrge enough the he could be a Bronze, if not for his coloring. He was-
A shape moved past her in the bright moonlit night.
With a trill of surprise and a small bit of consternation, she attempted to veer away, but could not at the reckless speed she was flying at. She could but slope downwards a little before she zoomed underneath him. Even that was not enough to distance herself away sufficiently. She felt her hide brush with his wings, his tail, the soft hide of is belly.
No! No longer can I fly! Jackaloth, I am yours![/b][/i] she cried as heat blossomed across the hide where they had touched, however briefly. Her wings were stretched to their fullest, and she managed to slow just enough to be at the victorious Brown's pace, or just a little faster, allowing him the chance to claim the prize he had won.
Samira gasped. It was over! The Flight was decided! There was only one thing left.
With a cry of surrender, she lurched forward, her slight body falling into Tamahome's. She did not even remember the existence of the other two Riders, let alone remember that they were there, and not some randm figment of her imagination. She had eyes only for him, only for the Brownrider that had won her as surely as Jackaloth had won Xenith. She was his!

Tamahome caught Samira, pulling her close to his rock hard body as his lips came down on hers. He carried her into her Weyr, closing the door a little more forcefully than he needed to. But Samira was his now, for now. And he would claim his prize just as Jackaloth would!
No! No longer can I fly! Jackaloth, I am yours!
Jackaloth roared into the night sky with his victory. He reached out and pulled Xenith close to him, twining his neck and tail and wings with her as they began to fall from the dark sky. Only the moon was there to light their descent and see them ensure the continuation of dragons on Earth.
((Sorry for my cruddy finishing post.))
