IC Date: Week of Nov. 6th, 2011 IC Time: 6:00 a.m. Ladeth had recently been enjoying all that the cold weather had to offer. Even Mentari had not fully understood her dragon's sudden obsession with the cold. But there was a perfectly logical explanation... Ladeth was napping in her side of the weyr, as Mentari was doing in her side. It was early morning, the skies still somewhat dark with night, and so very deliciously cold. The early morning air was at it's coldest, which would suit Ladeth wonderfully. Ladeth roused suddenly. Her eyes were whirling a deep red, and whirling violently. Mentari, feeling the sudden change in her dragon, woke with a start. She jumped out of bed and to Ladeth's half of the weyr, calling out as she did so. "Ladeth...?!" Ladeth turned and exited the weyr. She launched herself into the air and aimed for the feeding grounds before Mentari even saw her. I Rise... was all Ladeth said in explanation as she leaped on a small cow. "Rise...?" Mentari repeated, trying to get her mind to understand what it was her dragon was saying. With a gasp, Mentari understood. "Blood only, Ladeth!" Mentari screamed. Ladeth, her hide glowing beautifully and the flightlust already assaulting her, listened to her rider with the last rational scrap of her mind. After she blooded the cow, Ladeth roared to the Weyr. Ladeth Rises! Come males, and Chase.

Early as it was, Tad was awake, in the dining room and enjoying breakfast. He had never quite developed a taste for the Pernese coffee substitute and preferred the Earth variety. A hearty meal sat in front of him, barely touched. Outside, Kimath lounged in the stll-cold bowl, dozing a little. Then the blue's head snapped up, nostrils flaring as if at some scent that wafted through them. Ladeth! And he knew that if he could win this particular green, his rider would be happy. That was, in truth, all the simple-minded blue cared about. Pretty much all he knew to care about, for that matter. Besides, Ladeth was pretty. He was in the air before that thought had ended. Tad's fork was halfway to his breakfast when a wave of lust and promised happiness washed over him. Kimath, what the...Ladeth! the blue called, bright as bubbles. Part of Tad wanted to curse the green's timing, but the rest of him was already on his feet, food abandoned. Ladeth meant Mentari and he could not stand the thought of somebody else winning her. He didn't spare time to think about what that meant for him, for them, for the future, his feet carrying him to the internal staircase that would lead him to Mentari's Weyr. At least knowing where it was wasn't a problem. Go get her for me he thought to his dragon, the blue already at the feeding grounds where she was, fierce and beautiful and terrible. Then there was no thought except the mantra of Mentari-Ladeth in his mind... (OOC: Sorry about Kimath's color code being missing. My spreadsheet is on my other comp and I don't have time to hunt for it )

Rometh's head snapped up when he heard Green Ladeth's siren call. He who had yet to Chase would Chase this deep green beauty. With a simple thought to his rider, he leapt into the air.
D'meiMine, wish me luck. I chase.
He soared out over the Feeding Grounds, his hide dark with the remainders of night. The half-darkness also hid his extravagent markings, though he thought that a shame more than anything.
LadethSiren! May a simple Blue as myself be allowed to Chase your glory? he asked, noticing another Blue, much lighter in appearance, flying near Ladeth.
D'mei cursed his dragon for his timing, struggling with the door to the bathroom. He must have locked it somehow when he went in, but now he couldn't figure the blasted contraption out! The flightlust that started to assail his mind didn't help his plight, either.

Mentari managed to get to her feet and to the door, opening it. She knew there would be riders coming. Already she could tell, from Ladeth, that there were two chasers. Kimath was one of them. Which meant that Tad was coming, and Mentari was looking forward to that. She hoped Ladeth would choose Kimath...
Mentari was surprised just how scary this whole flight business was. She had been prepared. She had gone to all the lessons, and Faizah had been tutoring her as well. She had known what to expect. So why was she so scared...?
Ladeth winged herself through the sky, enjoying the feeling of the cold air on her feverish hide. She did a myriad of twists and turns, not even trying to show off for the two blues that had chosen to Chase. She heard the question of the second blue, and answered him in kind.
You may Chase, blue.
Then she darted off, towards the mountains. She knew she was faster than the males, but she didn't care. They would keep up, or they would not. Either way depended on them. Without looking back, she called out to them.
Which of you can keep pace with me...?[/color] she taunted.

Bright, the light. Bright the glow on Ladeth's green-dark hide, which was, really, all that Kimath was paying any attention to.
Most dragons had short memories. Kimath also had a rather small brain, and thus was likely to live in the eternal moment even more than most dragons. Yet, he knew how much catching her mattered to his rider.
Tad, into Mentari's Weyr, but not approaching. He had been warned not to touch the rider until the dragon chose, but that was the hardest thing he had ever done in his life. This was no strange woman (or, worse, man) with whom he might spend a night and then try his best to forget. No, this was his Mentari...if he could call her that, if he could claim her. He wanted her more than he had ever wanted anything in his life.
Kimath wanted Ladeth, the two of totally one accord as the blue pursued, not quite as fast as the green, no, but doing his best to keep up with the lighter weight dragon.
She was so beautiful...

Accepted into the Flight, Rometh was about to grab something to blood when Ladeth shot off. Any other time he would have grabbed something on the fly, but nothing but Ladeth's green hide was all that mattered now.
He shot off after her, not even his bloodless muscles distracting him. Even the other Chaser didn't cross his focused mind.
D'mei had stopped fiddling with the handle and was now throwing his weight against the door, trying to dislodge the door or break it; whichever came first.
"Shards!" he growled, feeling a new wave of flightlust. Why wouldn't this bloody door open?!

Ladeth watched out of the corner of her eye as her Chasers flew after her. The stranger blue was interesting, for he did not take the time to blood before beginning his chase. Kimath was closer, however, and he seemed willing to do anything for her. She blinked, putting on a burst of speed and angling at a seventy degree angle, further into the cool air.
She did a small flip so that she leveled out behind her two Chasers. Which of you can keep up? She called to the blues. At the same time she turned a half circle and sped off from where they came. She did a lazy spiral as she waited for her Chasers to catch up.

Anything for her...for unlike some dragons in flights, no human hesitation held Kimath back (as it might had it been any other green that took to the skies, calling for suitors. Dragons, of course, cared little for sexual loyalty).
Up. Up. Then she was suddenly behind, and turning away. Kimath spun on a wingtip as best he could, but he was not as agile as the smaller green, not quite.
But then, his true competition was not her, but Rometh. Rometh who had not blooded, Rometh who was, thus, weaker. A cannier dragon might have made use of that, but even with Tad in his mind, Kimath could not really manage anything but a straight pursuit of the rising green star.
Poor, simple Kimath.

Rometh watched Ladeth as she first pulled up, rising above them, then turned and was now behind them. He folded his wings and dove, bending his spine so he pulled more of a sideways U motion rather than a straight dive, opening his wings again and rolling to right himself. He pumped his wings, seeking to regain lost height, green Ladeth's hide his main focus.
She would have been his only focus, but his bloodless muscles were starting to ache from his manuever. But it would take more than a mere ache to deter this determined blue!
D'mei could feel the door was getting weaker. But it was still a thick door, and it would take more than him throwing his weight against the door a couple times to bust through it. Maybe the doorjam would give before it broke, preventing the need to replace the door.
Another wave of flightlust deterred his mind once more, causing him to throw himself against the door harder. He heard a muffled crack, took a couple steps back, then charged at the door, throwing his shoulder into it. With a louder crack, he tumbled through the remains of the door, hitting the ground hard. Shaking off his daze, he climbed back onto his feet and began to search for Mentari's weyr. For surely that's where she had been at so early in the morning when Ladeth Rose.

Mentari noticed Tad enter, but she didn't dare approach him. Ladeth had to make the choice... Mentari could not influence that desicion...
"Tad..." She did manage to whisper, her hands fluttering in front of her as she itched to reach out to him. She was still a bit scared with the flightlust coursing through her veins.
Ladeth's breathing became labored, and she knew she wouldn't last much longer. She would have to choose soon. But she knew she had enough strength for one more show from her suitors. She tilted one wing down slightly, so that she could do a lazy turn around her suitors.
She surveyed them, watching each one individually. Rometh was note worthy, Chaseing without blooding. But Kimath was more direct; he didn't have any hidden agenda to impress her. Both were pleasant specimens of dragons...
Show me your strength, suitors... She called to them, exhaustion bleeding through the mental call.

Impress her? For a moment, Kimath almost panicked. He had no idea how to impress a girl! His rider...knew how to impress human girls, but not dragon girls. What did he do? Tad was counting on him to catch her!
Counting on him. Maybe he should...aha. He did the only thing he could think of, a rather ragged barrel roll that said a lot more about try than any actual skill in flight. He was trying! That was all he could do, try, but he was starting to worry now that she wouldn't want him when there was a smarter dragon there she could choose.
Poor Kimath.

Rometh was feeling the burn, and not having blooded only made it worse. And now Ladeth was demanding a show of strength! The blue doubted he would be able to impress her, but that doubt wouldn't keep him from trying!
They were flying over the mountains. Surely there was something he could use...And there, just ahead of him, was a boulder. Judging by the size of it, it was a perfect size to pick up and...
Do what? Throw it? At what? Sucking in a deep breath, he folded his wings and dove for the boulder. Just before he reached it, he snapped them back open, and then he latched onto the stone with all four limbs, rapidly pumping his wings to get it off of its perch.
Finally attaining some height once more, he struggled to climb higher and find something to throw the rock at to impress Ladeth. Spotting an opening in the adjacent rockface, he tucked one wing close to his side, starting a wobbling spin. He was about to release the rock when he felt a sharp tearing in his wing.
He dropped the boulder, rather than throwing it, and extended his good wing to stop his spin.
Ladeth! This simple blue apologizes! I cannot! I cannot continue to Chase!
Regretfully, he turned from the Rising green beauty and started back to Rocky. Hopefully his wing would hold him until then...
D'mei felt Rometh's torn wing muscles and cringed, feeling them as his own. He turned from his search for the rider of the green, and sprinted for the Weyrbowl, knowing that was likely where his poor blue would land.
...If he didn't crash in the mountains first.

Ladeth watched the males closely. They did well to show their strength, or tried to, but the stranger blue dropped out of the chance. Inevitable, due to him not blooding.
Ladeth looked back at Kimath. He was the first Chaser, and the only one left now. He was a good dragon, if an overly simple one. Ladeth found his company comforting. And MentariHers liked Kimath's rider very much.
Ladeth angled over so that she was flying slightly under Kimath, running the tip of her wing across his stomach. Then she rose higher into the sky, aiming for the rising sun.
Kimath, come claim your prize! she called to the blue as she folded her wings close to her body and allowed herself to drop.

Kimath was not aware that the other blue had dropped out.
He was aware only that Ladeth was calling to him, reaching to him, blue and green twining together as they had done for the entire history of Pern.
Man and woman reaching for one another as they had done for longer than any records or histories showed...and right now there was no true separation between dragon and man as Tad reached for Mentari, sliding his arms around her, his lips seeking hers.
There could be nobody else for either of them, at least for that moment, and perhaps for many moments to come.
