For the past week, A'jax knew what was coming. He had seen the lighter tone of his beloved Green's hide, had felt her increasing moodiness. He had even felt the bite of her tonuge as she snapped at him. She had apologized later that day, but it still came as a shock to the rider of the normally sweet Green. The tension that was forming between them had him silently wishing she would Rise soon.
And now, in the pre-dawn darkness, it was time. The night air was crisp as Dulchanth's eyes, now whirling a dangerous, lusty red, snapped open. With a hiss at her startled rider, she betweened to the Feeding Grounds, crushing two cows as she latched onto first one, then the other. With a feral shriek, she issued her challenge to the males of Isle.
Males of Isle! I Rise and challenge you all to Chase! Follow my path if you dare!
Then she went between again, coming out over Rocky before shrieking her challenge to the sleeping Weyr. Rocky! I, Green Dulchanth of Isle, dare your males to come Chase! Her challenge now decreed at both Weyrs, she returned to Isle, furiously whirling red eyes watching for those who dared Chase such a glorious prize!

Kain was sound asleep in his bed after sending Gorth off to the feeding grounds. This time of morning, what trouble could really be waiting for the bronze? Certainly not any sane dragon... Kain would never have expected what came next.
Gorth, having just downed a rather large deer looking animal, suddenly swung his head around to look at the sky. His eyes whirled with red as a rising green appeared in the sky and challenged any Rocky male to chase her. And chase he would!
Gorth quickly blooded the animal, taking down and blooding a goat afterwards, before he took to the skies. The green had gone between again, which meant that she could only be at Isle. With the coordinates in mind, Gorth betweened with a final thought to his rider.
I Chase...
Kain sat bolt upright, looking around and hopeing to hear the bronze was only joking. but that would not be his luck. The bronze had already gone to Isle, forgetting Kain at Rocky even as the flight lust began to assail his body. Kain felt the usual fever of need, and he wondered what Gorth had been thinking.
"Damn dragon..." Kain muttered to himself as he got out of bed and, his mind unfocused due to flight lust, began to wander the Weyr.
Gorth, meanwhile, had reappeared at Isle in time to see the glorious glowing green skimming gracefully on the wind. He pumped his wings until he was next to her, floating just to the left, crooning his compliments to such a gorgeous green. He didn't dare use words to express how beautiful she was. Why should he? There were not words enough to attempt an explanation!

Kyrinth was warm and fuzzy, it seemed, where he was trapped between sleep and wakefulness. He dozed as he listened to Lyrah read one of her books out loud. Which book was it? It didn't matter. He was thinking about other things when her clarion call rang out above the Weyr before disappearing once more into icy between. A Chase? He could not reseist.
Lyrah! Snowfire! he trumpeted, calling the white flit and his rider again to awareness, his wishes strong enough that not even young Kaena doubted what was wished.
"I'm coming, don't leave without me!" the Brown weyrling cried, grabbing her coat and stuffing her feet into her wherhide boots. Snowfire, remembering what was needed, latched onto his friend's head between the knobs, flattening himself to his friend's head as best he could for the Chase. In response, Kyrinth shook vigorously, attempting to buck the tiny flit off, and was pleased when all that happened was him squeeking reprovingly and tightening his grasp.
"Go, blood, I will be down in a minute," she shouted, digging in her wardrobe for something that wasn't the thin flannel pants she wore.
He obeyed.
Using Snowfire's eyes as his own, he downed a cow, and then another, before dowing at last that annoyding pig that was squealing so frightfully where it was backed against the shed that housed the feed for all of the beasts in the grounds. Jsut as he finished blooding, he was surprised to feel the familiar weight of his rider vaulting onto him; he had not even noticed her come.
With that, he went between, touching down again only briefly to llow Lyrah to dismount.
"Good luck, love!"

Dulchanth watched as first a Bronze, so dark he was practically hidden in the night, came from between. Then, a Brown appeared as well, a white firelizard latched onto his head as he deposited His. Only two? The Rising Green snorted quietly, but then she let out a trumpeting cry, calling her Chasers to action. To me, my males! Chase all you wish, but only the best of you can win me!
She then launched herself higher into the dark sky, where only the stars glittered faintly like snow in the skies. The pale Green didn't check to see if her Chasers were behind her as she angled her way out over calm waters, keeping close to shore. The conflicting air currents would be their first test, however easy it might be. It would only be the first of several increasingly difficult challenges.
A'jax, disoriented from the Flight lust and the time of morning, staggered out of his weyr. Half-blind to his surroundings, he weaved his way outside, eyes turned skyward. His body shivered with the impact of cooler air, but his mind didn't acknowledge the movement. He watched as his pale beauty began her challenges for the males who had showed up to Chase. Some smothered corner of his consciousness wondered where their riders were, but all rational thought was momentarily driven from his mind as he shivered again, a fresh wave of heat pressing down on him.

Gorth shivered with anticipation as the splendid green called out to them with her challenge. Immediately, he followed after her as she raced over the calm waters. He had forgotten how vastly different Isle was from Rocky, especially the wind currents. But Gorth was determined to give this Chase his all.
Gorth kept his place on the left side of the glorious green. Right now, he did not care that a brown chased as well. The brown was blind! While he did have a flitter to be his eyes, it couldn't possibly help that much. Gorth ignored the brown in favor of the green that he would work to win. And win he must!
((Sorry for the bleh post, Stormy. Gorth muse is elsewhere...))

Kyrinth bugled as he caught the wind in his wings. He was where he was meant to be: flying the neverending waves of the sky in pursuit of one that Rose in challenge. He stretched his wings, the color of his eyes swirling with lust and determination.
He was glad that Snowfire was with him, for though he was incredibly dramatic at times, he knew what was needed and had good, sharp eyes. Yes, he did get distracted at times, but a sten call would bring him back to focus.
Kyrinth saw through eyes not his own that he was to fly over the treacherous waters off the coast. Silently he dreaded it. He had never truly needed to fly over large masses of water, and had never been taken to Rocky's sister Weyr. He did not know the patterns of the air, and he had no doubt that the great Bronze did. After all, he was the Weyrleader's beast.
Kyrinth knew exactly when he entered the air above the water, feeling immediatly the change in temperature. He wobbled in his flight, unsure, but recovered quickly. He would not give up so easily.
Lyrah closed her eyes as she felt the Brown surrender himself to the Chase, stubborn to the end. He would be equal, no matter what happened, she mused, before turning toward what she asumed was the weyrs. Scanning the opennings in the stone, she spotted the one that had the look of...what was his name...A'fox? A'tax? A'jax! Yes that was his name. With a small smile, she began her trek. _______________________________________________________________________________________
Seeth, much to his disgust, was directly underneath the Green as she burst out of the cold oblivion of between and into the sky above the original Earthian Weyr. What choice did he have but to give Chase to the blasted Green? Instict took the reigns immediantly.
Of course, he was going to be the biggest nuisance he could be until he was forced, and most likely after that still. He snapped at the air, eyes whirling dangerously full of anger and rising lust. Sennia, I must Chase.he murmured to her, the tone of his voice alone waking her.
"Seeth?" she yawned, waking fully. "What's going-? Ah." She flipped her blankets off as he obliged and filled her in. "Well, at least it won't be as dangerous as Crucith!" she snorted derisively, remembering the wounds he had come home with the last two times. "Go, blood! And hurry, please?" she told him, slipping on somr clothes.
He was stubborn too, of course, but overal he was angry, furious. He did as she asked, of course, but past that, he rolled the dice. He attacked a single cow as it lowed in terror, leaving it berft of blood afte an antagonizingly slow death. Sennia scowled as she realized what was happening.
Raising a bloody lip, he beckoned her to rise and mount him, winging into the air and between.
He reappeared thousands of miles away above a weyr empty but for two riders.
Sennia could not help but hide her distataste for what her beloved Brown had done on purpose, yet she knew that nothing she had said would have stopped it. She clambered down his back, bidding him farewell and good luck. And then she began to walk.
Seeth knew sshe was disappointed in him, yet he could not help what he feltat this unjust call. He was not at the beck and call of just anybody. He terrorized a flit that flew too close stealing coordinates of the Chase from his mind as the blue flew squealing off. He was between...he was above and forward of a Green, a Bronze, and a Brown, the males of which he recognized. He roared, diving toard the fleeing Green.

((It's fine, Faizah. Blah posts due to muse-fails are understood.))
Dulchanth felt rather than heard Seeth diving at her and folded one wing, rolling to the side, away from the angry Chaser. She hissed angrily at him as she levelled out, casting a critical eye at the newcomer. He was even darker than the Bronze, and covered in scars from old injuries. Well, if he wanted to win, he'd have to prove himself!
With another bugle, she turned sharply and charged toward her suitors, then swerved up and other them last minute. She then turned out over Isle, pulling up and backflipping to show off what the males were competing for. She then rolled to the side, intending to put them through acrobatics that would test their abilities. She spiraled slowly around the three Chasers, casting a critical eye over each of them before decreeing her next challenge.
'Impress me! Show me your aerial abilities!' she demanded of the males.
A'jax glanced around, hearing movement. Another dragon dropping off his rider. That would only mean he was a Chaser...ah, yes. There, diving at his beloved Green. The dragon was so dark he could barely even see it, and he had a hard enough time seeing the Bronze that was also Chasing.
-----
Reya was bored with the quiet monotony of the small Earthian Weyr, but at least she was on the same planet as her family. Getting back home would be difficult even by plane because she had never gotten a passport. Perhaps she could talk to one of the riders about it? But no, the Weyr was on lock-down and a dragon appearing in Italy would just draw attention back to the Weyr. "Shards I'm bored," she sighed. In the four years she had been on Pern, she had readily adopted some of the Pernese oaths. With Till draped sleepily across her shoulders, she set down her book and stood with a stretch. "I think it's time to terrorize the Weyr, cause some chaos," she said to the drowsy flit, reaching up and scratching his head.
The red-brown flit yawned, rubbing into her head for a minute before nipping her fingers. "Blighter..." the red-head muttered. She left her room in the candidate barracks, striding through the Weyr. Passing the Weyrbowl, she saw a man who looked vaguely familiar, like she had seen him before. She had no recollection of him from Italy, so that left Pern and Rocky. And she couldn't recall him from Pern, either, so she must have seen him here at the--Wait! Wasn't he the reclusive Weyrleader? What was his name...? K'lan? No. K'rin? "Aha! Kain. That's right," she said to herself. He seemed to be wandering around in a daze, so she assumed his dragon had gone to Chase the Green who had appeared, shrieked a challenge and took off again. The Bronze beast had left him here? How inconsiderate. That's why she liked the whers better, they couldn't between like the dragons could. That, and they were inherently aggressive. Curious, she started to approach the distracted Weyrleader.
((And that is sad that I have more for Reya than for A'jax and Dulchanth. But my muse is also elsewhere. x.x))

((Lol))
Kain wandered into the Weyrbowl, not knowing what he was doing really. His mind was elsewhere, with Gorth chaseing the green at Isle. Isle... What was the blasted bronze doing at Isle without him, his rider? Kain couldn't answer his own question, for his mind wandered off to something else at that exact moment.
The flight lust poured through his veins, and Kain was at a loss to deny it. So he wandered, not knowing that the new Candidate had seen him or that she was following him. Kain just kept walking.
Gorth, meanwhile, cursed himself being born a bronze. He could not perform such tight aerial acrobatics like the two browns could. But he would be damned if he didn't give this flight his best.
Nor would he allow Seeth to beat him...
Gorth pumped his wings harder, pulling away from the browns around him. He began a slow, loose horizontal spiral, aiming towards Isle Weyr, and slowly tightened it. Soon the bronze was moving as fast as he could in the tighter spiral. He snapped his wings open to shoot upwards on the updraft he encountered.
Gorth's breath came in painful gasps and bloody foam came from his mouth and nostrils. Gorth shot downwards, towards the thicker air, before leveling out. He knew that if the grogeous green asked for more acrobatics he would not be able to finish the flight. Already his breathing had turned labored, and he could only hope that the thicker air would help revive him some...
If not, Gorth would soon have to drop out of the flight...

Dragons do not change; never, not from the moment they hatch until they seek the everlasting dark of between do they ever change in what they believe.
Kyrinth was a younger example of this.
He had never enjoyed being treated with pity or gentleness just because he did not have the use of his eyes. He never liked it when he was left out or forced to stay behind. He hadn't liked it when he and Lyrah had been exiled to Pern.
He especially did not like being treated as if he had no chance against the other Chasers.
He snarled as he was ignored by the Bronze and the cruel Brown that had come late. His eyes flaring with furious flames, he bared his fangs, and, if it had not been for Dulchanth rising in the night, he would likely have attacked someone.
But, alas, he would not. He had a task to see to.
He could not do the acrobatics many Browns and Blues and Greens could, at least to an extent. But he could always attempt it. He dove forward and down, diving through the ever tighter loops of Bronze Gorth as he strained, before swirling back up, cartwheeling through the air in a tumbling fashion before straightening himself rather suddenly.
I am not skilled in the air, he murmured, half to himself. Yet I try harder than I do without. Crusted foam hung from the corners of his jaw as he struggled to get air to oxygen starved muscles. He wished more than ever he had been allowed to join in with the other Weyrlings while they practiced aerial manuevers. ______________________________________________________________________________
Hah! She thought he truly wished to win!
Seeth laughed, a gutteral sound that did nothing to aid in Sennia's oft attempted plans on softenning his reputation. Now why would he do that? It wasn't as fun! He rolled, pinwheeling to face the correct way before correcting his flight angle. He eyed the blind Fort dragon and the Bronze that thought himself so high and mighty because of his riders rank.
But all of that was a lie. He was just another outcast, like them all, unwanted on Pern.
He lifted his lips in a snarling smirk as he watched the aerobatics. Yet he refused to join them.
Why should I? he snapped.
((Apologies for cruddy post. I couldn't think of how to lengthen that out in any way.))

Dulchanth watched as two of the chasers did their best to impress her, while the third seemed to be there unwillingly. Well, fine. She brought herself up in front of the dark Brown, flaring her wings to give the appearance that she was larger than she was.
'Leave. Now. You refuse to participate, so you shall leave.'
Turning her back to the Chaser, not caring to force him to leave if he didn't go on his own, she then pumped her wings to regain lost speed and shot out toward the rock wall that was destroyed when Xenith Rose. It looked like there was enough space between most of the rocks that she would be able to use it as another sort of obstacle course. She dropped down among the crags, somewhat folding her wings to streamline herself.
Her energy was waning, though. This would have to be the last challenge she presented or she would fall from the sky, spent. And she would not let that happen to she, who lit the night in its darkest hours.
'I issue to you your last challenge, my males! Follow me through these rocks, prove to me you are better than your competitors!'
-----
Reya noticed she was unnoticed by the Weyrleader, and curiosity morbidly piqued, she continued to follow him. He was in a daze, so he had to have been left behind. She advanced a little closer, then hesitantly reached out and poked his shoulder. "Hey? You okay?" she asked.
((Sorry for the meh post, guys, I'm kinda being chased out. Also, Wolfy, you're fine.))

Someone touched him, at the same time he heard someone's voice. A voice he didn't recognize. Kain knew the flight was almost over. Gorth couldn't keep up with the green...
Kain spun around and grabbed whoever it was. For a moment he thought he had grabbed a hold of Faizah. But it didn't matter either way. Kain crushed his lips over their's and his hands pulled the person's body closer to his. He groaned as he felt the distinctive body of a woman. But as Kain realized what he was doing, he pushed the person away from him. He kept hold of their hand, just to make sure they didn't fall.
"Shit!" He exclaimed to himself.
Gorth wouldn't be able to follow the green. His body just would not fly another foot. His wings refused to work and his breathing was labored. Bloody foam came from his mouth and nostrils. With regret, Gorth went between to Rocky. He landed in the Weyrbowl, gasping for breath. He laid his head on the ground, calling out for a healer.

Kyrinth blinked his sightless eyes, astounded that he was suddenly the last one in the Chase. The other Brown had told to get away because he did not wish to cooperate and would not rise to the challenges set by Dulchanth. The Bronze could not continue, reminding the young Brown what his infirmity was; he had about as much stamina as a newly hatched dragonet. Only he was left. Him, the mostly blind dragon!
He dove, the fact that he was alone giving him more strength than he had felt in quite a while. He Chased the Green through the tumbled boulders, pumping his wings until he had caught up with her, and hovered just above and behind her. He crooned, dipping his head to touch her neck only just slightly.
Dulchanth, he murmured softly, there is no one else Chasing. They have left. He watched her strain in her flight, her muscles shaking with her exhaustion. He could, as some did, take her without her consent. He could take her since he was the last. But he would not. Though he ached to complete the Chase, he could not force something like this. She glowed not just from without, but also from within; he liked her.
Lyrah broke into a quick jog as she felt Seeth's banishment from the Chase. She could see A'jax clearly now, was almost there....when Gorth betweened home in defeat. She stumbled, eyes widenning as she understood what that meant. Her love, her Kyrinth, had done it! Beaming she sprinted those last few yards to the Greenrider and sliding to a stop, her eyes intense. She reached out toward him, then stopped, unsure.

Dulchanth burst out of the rocks, gasping for breath. She was so exhausted, even her healed leg, missing the forelimb from the elbow down, ached and throbbed. And with only one Chaser left, that made her choice that much easier.
With a brass trumpet, she rocketed into the sky, pushing her wings to the limit to reach the height she desired. And as the sky lightened, her shining beauty matched only by the glow of the rising sun, she made her choice.
'Kyrinth! You are blind, yet you have shown me more courage and have impressed me more than those with sight. Now! Kyrinth! You are my choice! Come claim your prize!
A'jax sensed Lyrah rather than felt or saw her there. And when Dulchanth made her choice, he had no chance to avoid the feelings that came crashing over him. With a small cry, he pushed himself away from the rocks he had somehow stumbled against, and nearly collapsed into Lyrah before slightly righting himself.
-----
Reya barely had time to comprehend what was going on as she was first crushed against the man, then pushed away with such force that she would have fallen over were it not for his hand around her wrist. As her mind caught up with what had happened, she realized how utterly desperate the man was.
Having had spent some time on Pern, she understood the basics of dragonflight and how the lust affected the rider. While she knew what she could do to help this man, she wasn't sure if she could convince herself to give herself up like that. She had had plans of finding someone she loved to give herself to, but not only was this man desperate, he wasn't that bad looking. And reclusive or not, she had to admit that he must have been a good man, else he wouldn't have bonded a dragon, nor would he have been deemed Weyrleader.
Seeing no other option, she pulled the man closer to her while pulling herself closer to him, and purred, "Where's your weyr, elusive Weyrleader Kain?"
