Waking up in somebody else's weyr? That wasn't an experience Tad had had before.
It took him a moment to realize that he was not in his own weyr, that Kimath was not there...no doubt either in their weyr or sleeping outside, as dragons sometimes preferred. And that he was lying next to something very warm and definitely female.
As the Pernese would say Shards...what had he done? But no, she had seemed entirely willing at the time, even taking the lead. As his head cleared, he knew he had done nothing wrong...except amongst those who believed that one should wait for marriage.
Marriage, apparently, was not a dragonrider tradition, although perhaps it should be here...but he did not remove the arm he found he had curled over Mentari's warm form.
What had they done? Would it have consequences?

Mentari began to stir. She knew upon waking that she was in her weyr, and she knew that she was curled up next to someone. A very warm and comfortable someone. She smiled, turning over to face them, and cuddling closer.
She opened her eyes, looking up at Tad. Waking up to someone that was not her family was a new experience to the young woman, but one she found she welcomed. She smiled up at Tad. Ladeth was likely in her half of the weyr, or even more likely sleeping outside. Mentari found she didn't care at the moment. If there was a problem, Ladeth would let her know.
"Morning, Tad." Mentari said, her voice heavy with sleep. She cleared her throat a little. A slight blush appeared on Mentari's cheeks.

"Morning." She wasn't pulling away or freaking out, so everything had to be good. Slowly, he removed his arm to give her more freedom of motion.
She wasn't freaking out. They had a moment and he suspected they might have more. He could hope anyway. He didn't ever, right now, want her to leave.
But they would have to. His stomach reminded him that it was, after all, morning and that breakfast was probably a good idea. He told it off firmly, but it kept protesting.
He still wondered what Faizah would think, but they could handle that if she said something. As long as she did not, he would assume she either did not know or was happy with the situation.
But for right now, Mentari was here. Maybe they could go get breakfast together - which would probably let half the Weyr know what had happened, but he examined all of his feelings and decided he did not care.
"I suppose we might have to move..."

Mentari moved a little closer to Tad. He wasn't freaking out, although he did seem a little awkward. Mentari hoped it would change anything between them. Mentari wanted many more moments like they had shared. She didn't want Tad leave...
Mentari didn't worry about what Faizah would think. Faizah was usually very laid back about relationships her sisters got into. She would warn the guy not to hurt them, then she went her own way. Mentari knew Faizah liked and respected Tad, and she hoped that Faizah might welcome their relationship.
If this became a relationship...
"I suppose we might have to move..."
Mentari looked up at Tad, brow furrowed. She was just about to ask why they would have to move when she heard a small growling from her own stomach. She blushed a little more, laughing slightly.
"I suppose breakfast would be a good idea." She smiled.

"It would, and unless you have a stash of food here, that's going to mean getting dressed."
Which didn't appeal right now, but Tad's stomach was clearly not going to leave him alone until he put something in it. But there might well be other nights.
He wanted there to be other nights. He knew how fragile things were, though. This was a Weyr, where relationships were affected by the dragons, by their choices... He idly wondered how the Pernese were sure of paternity.
Maybe they weren't, and if a female slept with somebody other than her weyrmate as a result of a flight they assumed that the offspring could be either guy's.
Children. Oh, he didn't want to think about that. "Let's go find some breakfast," he interrupted himself with. But he wanted a relationship with her. He knew that for sure...the only question was whether she wanted the same thing.

Mentari grinned. "I do indeed have a stash of food here. Give me a moment." She said, leaping up and towards her desk.
Mentari rummaged through the drawers of the desk, pulling out various snack food bags and boxes. When she had an armful of them, she headed back over to the bed. Sitting on the edge, she dumped the snacks on the bed, between Tad and herself.
"Not very good for us, but better than getting dressed and going down to the dining hall..." Mentari let the end of the sentence hang there, looking at Tad nervously.
Was it possible she was having the same thoughts as Tad? Not exactly. While children weren't on her mind, a relationship was. Mentari wanted to spend more mornings like this, with Tad. She didn't know how relationships worked on Pern, having never been there, but she knew it must be difficult in a Weyr. The dragons rose to mate, greens about four times a year did so, and they chose their mate. Their rider's prefference seemed to have no holding for the dragons...
But Mentari wanted a relationship with Tad. More than she wanted anything else. Mentari just didn't have the heart to bring it up first.

"And letting everyone see us together...you know how fast gossip travels around here. Then again, it's probably too late anyway - this place is full of firelizards."
He had a good point, there, and pretty much all of them were Impressed to somebody and pretty much all of them would tell their handlers everything they had seen.
He grabbed some of the snacks. "Unless, of course, we want everyone to see us." Which might not be too bad. Get it over with...except then people would think they were in a relationship. Were they? He wasn't sure...he knew he wanted it. "They'll think we're together if so. Or just laugh. Hard to tell which, around here...with all the dragon-induced romance.

Mentari blushed a little more. "Are we...together?" She asked. It was hard to keep the hope out of her voice, but she did desperately hope they would start a relationship.
The mention of firelizards made Mentari check on her own two flits. A belated responce, sure, but she found that Christopher and Nicole were sleeping soundly. They were on their usual perch; Ladeth's back and head. She smiled slightly at the waves of sleepy annoyance.
Ladeth was so deeply asleep, Mentari couldn't pry anything from the green.
Mentari reached out and grabbed a swiss roll. She started unwrapping it, watching Tad out of the corner of her eye. Like she had been thinking earlier, she wanted a relationship with him. She wanted to be able to claim him as belonging to her, and she to him.

The food might not be healthy, but it definitely. "I was going to ask you the same question," Tad noted finally, softly.
"I mean, it takes two people to actually be together." The decision could be neither his alone nor entirely hers, but rather had to belong to both of them. Which was, yes, part of what made it so hard...because you had to ask and work things out. Tad knew too many people who boldly stated that so-and-so was their boyfriend or girlfriend when it wasn't even actually true.

Mentari nodded, giggling slightly. "Yeah. It does take two people to be together..." She trailed off, trying to find the courage to ask the question that was heavy on her mind. She took a deep breath.
"Do you want to be my boyfriend?" She asked in a rush, looking at anything except Tad. The blush on her cheeks brightened.
Mentari took another small bite of her swiss roll.

Not a single hesitation, not a single thought before Tad's face broke out into a grin the size of a dragon's maw. "Of course I do."
He then tried to kiss her. Of course, there was a Swiss roll in the way, which was probably not conducive to anything but getting chocolate and cream absolutely everywhere.
Eh. Who care.d. It wasn't like they'd gotten around to actually putting any clothes on that could be mussed...
And besides. It was chocolate, after all, and it might be quite fun to retrieve the crumbs.

Mentari grinned back, squealing in excitement. Tad attempted to kiss her, which got chocolate and crumbs and cream over their faces. But Mentari couldn't have cared less.
She set the swiss roll on its wrapped on her bedside stand. Then she wrapped her arms around Tad's neck and leaned into him. He had just made her the happiest girl at Rocky. She kissed him.
Mentari thrilled. Tad was her boyfriend. She was his girlfriend. There was nothing that could happen that would kill her good mood. As far as Mentari was concerned, everything in the world was perfect. Which is quite an intoxicating feeling to a young girl.
For a moment Mentari wanted to tell Tad that she loved him. Just for a moment. She knew better, of course. That was too big a step to take when they had just started a relationship. Mentari had seen a good many of her mother's relationships fail because her mother had said the "L" word far too soon.
So she said the next best thing she could think of.
"I'm so happy." She whispered to him, breaking the kiss for only a moment.

Of course, had her mother's relationships failed for other reasons? Had they been...well. It was not Tad's problem.
He only had Mentari and he only wanted Mentari. Whether it would last forever, he did not know. But for now, it was enough and more than enough. The kiss lasted a long time...finally, he broke away, then he snagged a second Swiss roll. He broke it in two and tried to feed half of it to Mentari. He did not, of course, expect her to argue with this particular course of action.

Mentari had banished all thoughts of her mother from her mind at that current moment.
The kiss they shared seemed to last for an eternity. But you wouldn't find Mentari complaining about it. She was a little out of breath, but so very happy. She laughed a little, allowing Tad to feed her half the swiss roll. A few crumbs fell as she bit into it, and Mentari giggled a little around a mouth full of swiss roll.
Mentari took the other half from Tad and tried to feed it to him. She smiled as she did so.
