IC Date: Week of Jan. 1st, 2012 IC Time: 3:00 p.m. Nakia wandered around the Weyrbowl with Moss and Delilah flitting over her head, and Caley playing in the snow. The dark brown pit/lab mix seemed to be enjoying the cold as she darted from snowbank to snowbank. Moss and Delilah would flick snow at her with their tails, and Caley would chase them for a bit. But Nakia was freezing out here, already in a bad mood from her progressing pregnancy. The morning sickness she had heard so much of had finally caught up with her. She was spending most of the late morning and some of the early afternoon vomiting. Faizah had gotten the doctor to give her some anti-nausea medicine, but Nakia hated taking pills. It put her in a very bad mood... Delilah and Moss's chirps of welcome, along with Caley's excited bark, brought Nakia's attention back to her surroundings. She looked ahead of her and noticed a girl and her brown dragon sitting in the snow. The girl was bundled up against the snow just like Nakia was, and the brown seemed to be asleep while sunning itself. Nakia decided she would like the company. Sarah noticed the girl with her dog and flits heading that way. Iaruth wasn't sleeping, but he wasn't going to let any visitors know that. He wasn't in the talking mood. But Sarah would relish the company of another, especially one she recognized as the Junior Weyrwoman of Rocky. "Greetings, Nakia. How is chimera Isath?" She asked. Sarah knew the woman had atleast three other flits, and she wondered where they were, but decided not to ask. Nakia might find it rude. Nakia nodded. "Isath is well. How is your brown? And forgive me for not knowing his name." Nakia greeted her fellow rider. Or weyrling, in this case, since she was almost certain that brown was from Crucith and Jadavath's clutch...

Rometh's wing was finally starting to heal up, but despite how much the blue wanted to take to the air, D'mei refused to let him off the ground for anything other than getting back and forth to their weyr. And even then, he kept a very close eye on the straining dragon.
So instead of taking a flight out in the cold air, D'mei had dressed in his riding leathers, built for the cold of between, and was walking alongside his marked blue. And they hadn't gotten very far in their walk when Rometh pointed out, Look, mine. Green-gold Isath's rider and brown Iaruth's rider. Maybe we should take a different route...I don't want them to notice us...
D'mei stifled a laugh, turning it into a guffaw. "Not notice you? You silly blue, it's hard to miss you on a normal day, let alone out in the snow! Iaruth probably knows we're already here. Let alone Nakia's flits."
Mine... Rometh whined.
"Oh, quit your bellyaching. Isath isn't here for now, and I doubt Iaruth is going to snap at you. We'll be fine, you'll see. Come on, then," D'mei said, putting a reassuring hand on the side of his many-hued beast.
Though beast was an inappropriate term...the dragon beside him was less of a dragon and more of a massive, winged...deer? Was that what those flighty animals often seen in the forests were called? Yes. Rometh was more like a deer than a dragon most days. What made the comparison even sadder, Rometh didn't even disagree with the sentiment.
Approaching the two women, D'mei called out to them. "Hello there! It's rather cold out here, isn't it?"

Nakia smiled at the girl with her brown. Moss and Delilah were flitting over the slumbering dragon's head, chirping and calling at the brown. Caley looked confused, staying by Nakia's side as she approached the other girl.
"Isath is fine. Better than fine, actually." Nakia smiled, as talking about her precious green gold was likely to do.
Sarah smiled as Nakia explained Isath was doing well. And then she heard another person. Sarah looked over and noticed a man walking with a rather grumpy looking blue. She smiled and waved. Sarah hadn't expected so many people to be around this afternoon, with the cold weather and all. But she was glad for the company, even if Iaruth was a little sore about it.
There is too much noise... Iaruth decided to let Sarah know his grumpiness.
Sarah patted his shoulder. "You're a big, bad brown. You will adjust." She grinned at her own small joke, remembering a friend who used to say that a lot.
Nakia looked over at the man with the blue. She recognized him vaguely as a new comer, by the name of D'mei. His dragon had Chased Mentari's green. Nakia arched a brow at the man...

D'mei had started to raise his hand in greeting when he saw the women turn, but their silence and seemingly unwelcoming demeanor had his hand freeze mid-motion.
I told you, Mine... Rometh crooned worriedly.
For once, D'mei shared his blue's timid fears. Was he intruding on some private conversation? Or did these two women not particularly like blues and their riders? But Isath was half green, so blue was a likely color to Chase...but Iaruth was a brown. So he wouldn't be surprised if his rider wasn't as friendly to he and Rometh..
"Er, I'm sorry. Was I interrupting something? We can leave if you want us to..." he offered, eyes flicking between the two women quickly.

"No. Not at all. You can join us." Sarah said. She kept her smile, but deep down she wondered if she had insulted the man. And then she wondered if he was intimidated by her, a female brown rider...
Nakia shook her head. "I'm in agreement with Sarah. You can join us. I was just wondering if your blue was the one that chased my sister's green the other day." Nakia said.
Moss and Delilah began chattering, flying over D'mei and Rometh's head. Nakia sighed, but let them do as they pleased. There was no point in trying to control them. They wouldn't listen...

"The very same. Bloody beast did some serious damage to his wing, though. I'm keeping him on the ground for that reason," D'mei said with a nod. Then his attention went up to the flits above their heads and grinned slightly. "Hyper little things, eh? Are they friendly?"
Maybe he was a little intimidated by Sarah, but it wasn't a conscious decision to be intimidated. Hell, he'd probably be intimidated if she was a male brownrider. Brown and bronzeriders scared the bluerider...The bronzeriders especially thought they were the best thing to happen to the Weyr...Brownriders were usually more modest, but they would still pull rank if it helped...
In D'mei's experience, anyway.
He wasn't trying to ignore Sarah, he just wasn't sure what to say to her to ease the sudden tension there.

Sarah wasn't even conscious of D'mei unease around her. It wasn't as if she knew what her rank as a brownrider meant. She didn't even know how to excersize it, considering Rocky didn't put any emphasis on rank. Unless it was an emergency, like the one that had caused her to come to Rocky to begin with...
Nakia nodded. "Friendly, yes. Hyper, yes. Intelligent, not really." She answered, laughing at her own joke. She didn't know what but she felt comfortable around this guy, despite the fact that he very well could have won Ladeth's flight. And slept with her smallest sister...
Nakia's hands went to her stomach, where she felt the baby kick. She smiled at the feeling. She didn't feel anything motherly towards the child growing within her, but the feeling of having a miracle inside her did improve her mood most times.
Moss landed on Nakia's shoulder, rubbing her head along the girl's cheek. Nakia smiled and stroked the green's eye ridges. At the same time, Nakia noticed Delilah contemplate the blue dragon before her. She even chirped at him, as if asking permission to land between his head knobs.

Rometh raised his head slightly to contemplate the green who chirped at him, then nodded at her, leveling his head out so she could land. He crooned slightly at the little firelizard, watching her.
D'mei looked back at his blue, then back to Nakia and Sarah. "What do you think of this weather? It's cold, but I think High Reaches got colder from time to time."

Nakia shrugged. "I never got to High Reaches. Only Benden, and that was during the spring." She paused for a moment, then continued. "I do remember Benden being quite beautiful though."
Sarah shook her head. "I wouldn't know. I've never been to Pern. And I'm rather used to the cold here. Born and raised just down the mountain." She explained. She smiled slightly.
Delilah chirped a thanks and landed, enjoying the view from the blue's headknobs. She flared her wings a little, showing off for any males that might be around. And teasing Moss about being perched on the dragon's head.

D'mei looked over to Sarah. "I miss Pern, but there's nothing for me to go back to." He shrugged slightly, then added, "I can't really even get back. With Rometh's inability to jump to the right coordinates, we could possibly end up somewhere in space..."
Then he looked over to Nakia. "And Benden is quite beautiful. Any time of the year, really, but spring makes it more blatantly obvious. The best part of fighting Thread was coming out over the Weyrs, waiting for the fight to begin."

Sarah nodded, almost able to sense the man's feelings. He seemed to be terribly homesick, but at the same time he seemed to be making it a point to adjust to Earth. She frowned at the mention of Thread. Iaruth was healthy, so their place should have been back on Pern. Fighting. She grimaced slightly. She didn't want to risk her wonderful Iaruth...
Nakia's eyes lit up at the mention of Thread. "I want to fight. But they wouldn't let Isath train at all... She's only a Chimera. Not like Aurora's green, who can control even golds..." Nakia grumbled the last part of it. It was obvious that she was bitter about being kicked off Pern just because her dragon was two sisters that combined bodies...

"Actually, I suppose I miss my mother more. But she died when I was thirteen. I was never that close with my father, so I just...left. Took the Runner and what little I owned and went to the Weyr. I largely worked in the kitchens, but I just didn't feel...right. I loved it in there, but something seemed to be missing. And I think Isath is more than able to fight Thread, unlike a lot of traditionalists. But she's half gold, isn't she? And golds aren't supposed to have firestone..." D'mei trailed off.

Nakia nodded. "She is half gold. But she hasn't flown in almost a year, and she hasn't clutched a bronze or gold yet. There was a partial bronze in her clutch, but not a true bronze..." Nakia sighed.
Sarah, who was listening, added. "She was caught by Brynath though. He is mainly a blue, and it was lucky that she clutched even a partial bronze. Maybe if she is caught by a brown or bronze next time, she will clutch higher colors..." Sarah thought for a moment, then added one more thing. "She's just an untried gold..."
Nakia shrugged again. "Doesn't matter. They could have given us a flamethrower for all I cared..."

D'mei shrugged. "I don't really see any reason you and Isath shouldn't have been allowed to fight Thread, but I'm only a bluerider. If I were a brown or a bronzerider, I'd try advocating for the chimeras. Just because they're two different colors doesn't mean they're any different than the rest of the dragons." Then he glanced over to Sarah. "And maybe Isath's gold half is just a sort of late bloomer? Dragons don't Fly until they're ready, so maybe her gold half just isn't ready to reveal herself to the whole of the worlds?"

Nakia shrugged. "She does let the green portion dominate. I don't know why, but she does." Nakia said. She shrugged again. "Either way, we're not welcome on Pern. That's why we're here."
Sarah shook her head. "I'm not sure I would want to fight Thread. Iaruth is healthy, but in such a dangerous profession? I don't know how long that would last. And I couldn't bear if he got hurt..." She said, rubbing her dragon's forelimb.
Iaruth growled a little, feeling his rider's sudden upset. He had only been slightly following the conversation, and he knew they were taking about Thread, but he didn't care. They were not on Pern. They were on Earth, where there was no Thread, and he was safe. Iaruth made sure to convey those thoughts and feelings to his rider.

"Rometh and I aren't welcome on Pern either. With his inability to come out from between at the proper coordinates, we were quickly removed from active Threadfighting and it didn't take long for them to decide to send us here..." D'mei muttered.
Then he looked to Sarah. "Some dragons and their riders almost never get any Threadscoring for their whole fighting career," he offered, seeing how upset the thought of Threadscores made her.

Sarah shrugged. "I understand that, but I have heard that female brownriders are frowned upon. Not to mention, I don't know how well I would be... I can't focus very well when I'm stressed out." She laughed a little, a very brittle laugh. Then she smiled slightly and continued. "I get stressed out just thinking about being up in the air with hundreds other dragons and riders, breathing fire and fighting something as dangerous as Thread."
Nakia nodded in understanding. "At least your blue has a real problem. They are afraid he might hurt someone, or get hurt. With the Chimera's its just that the Pernese are afraid of them. For no reason other than they aren't the normal colors..." Nakia said with a little more venom than she intended.
She listened carefully to Sarah, moving Caley's leash from one hand to the other. The dog had calmed down, and was sitting at Nakia's feet happily. The flits were calmed down, and it seemed that Moss had fallen asleep on Nakia's shoulder.

"This big baby? He couldn't hurt a fly if he tried!" D'mei laughed as he patted Rometh's neck, though his eyes held shadows now. He knew the dangers, as well as every other rider, of improper coordinates between. And Rometh somehow came up with random coordinates when they jumped..
They were lucky they were still alive now...
Trying to push aside the dark thoughts, feeling Rometh bump against his back, he looked to Sarah. "It's actually not as bad as you might think. Those other dragons and their riders help protect you, keep an eye out for you. All they want is for you to do the same in return." Then he shrugged. "But it seems to me that people here on Earth view Threadfighting differently than most on Pern."

Nakia chuckled a little, but otherwise she became lost in her own thoughts.
Sarah laughed a little more heartily. Her smile grew slightly, and she nodded at D'mei. Perhaps one day she would give Pern, and Threadfighting, a chance. But that day was not anytime soon. She preferred to stay on Earth just a little bit longer, even if she didn't have any family left. And there wasn't a point to her hurrying off to join the fight. Even if she did leave tomorrow, she would spend God only knows how long training to fight...
