Picture:
Base Personality: Determined, Curious, Moody, Reclusive
History: Quora was born, as far as anyone can tell, in mid-winter to a group of holdless travellers. She was still reddish when Crom guards found her tucked away in a corner of the caves set aside for the holdless during Threadfall. None would claim her, and when somebody finally stepped forward to say something, it was only to say that a woman, recently pregnant by the looks of it, had fled with her family and quite a few stolen goods.
The tiny baby was brung to the main Crom Hold, and was put into the care of a sweet, at least by Crom standards, old woman called Aunt Inare. She was an old cook from the kitchens, and legend had it she was quite a beautiful woman when she was still young. However, those days had passed long ago.
She named the babe Quora, after her sister, she said, whom had died when struck by lghtning many years before.
Quora was always a free spirit, never able to sit still for long. By age five, she had a reputation as the 'troublemaker.' By age ten, she was the 'wild child.' By age fifteen, she was the open rebel against any who thought themselves better than her, which, on one fateful occasion, was the Lord Holder himself.
After the incident with the Lor Holder of Crom, she was sent away as a Glass-smith Apprentice. She went without incident, and with little regret. She had never truly loved it there and had yearned to be elsewhere. Ista, with the Weyr and the endless beaches to explore was a dream come true.
She immersed herself in her studies, quickly learning the necesary arithmetic and technical rules of glass-making. She was sent to study under one Master Kortamer when she exhibeted skill in the making of colorful, decorative sculptures.
It was at this time that she first saw the pup that would come to be named Shiff.
Shiff was a scrawny, mangy pup with little meat and fur on his body. He was cowering against a wall as some of her fellow apprentices threw clods are dirt and rocks at him. She was immediately angry, and marched up to them. They laughed her, knowing that she was one of the only girl apprentices in the craft, and turned their backs on her. That was thier mistake. Without making a sound, she kicked the first from behind, causing him to double over and hold himself. As the other turned, she made use of her long fingers and sharp nails by pressng her fingertip into the gap between the boy's shoulder-blade and breast-bone. He yelped and whimpered for about twenty seconds before she slowly released him to run off. Without the aid of his friend, the other - who was finally recovering, the pathetic wimp - ran after him, yelling back at her.
The pup was one that often came to the Crafthall to beg for food, and was usually chased off. Just to make a point, the girl cleaned the poor thing up and fed it leftovers from her meals. She even asked the Healer in residence what else she could do; after looking Shiff over, he prescribed fish oil to aid in fur growth and health, and exercise. Soon, the pup followed her almost everywhere.
The girl had never had many friends. Instead, she had always been a bit of a recluse, a part on her own clique, one that no one else was allowed to join. It was obvious, when the Dragons at Ista Weyr came on Search, that she was a good Candidate. At least it was obvious to them.
She was reclusive and headstrong, and rarely listenned to anyone other than her Master, if she even listened to him. The Blue that Searched her said something akin to And what are most Riders? Reclusive, moody humans that rarely listen to what they are told. Being a Dragon that had many times Searched Bronze and Brown and Gold Riders in his life, his opinion was treated with respect.
And so she stood for the first time at age sixteen. She had been Searched a few days before that, and she would always remain close by. The Riders could not keep her, however, and after the first failed attempt at Impression, she returned to the study of her craft. The dragons always came back for her, though, and she always stood at the Hatchings, be they Green or Gold.
Halfway through her eighteenth year, word came of the hatchings on Earth, and the opportunities to expand knowledge of the crafts. Candidates were desperately needed, it was said. She thought long and hard upon the decision to go to Earth, and finally, she agreed. Master Kortimer petitioned to have her made Journeywoman, because he said, beaming, that 'she was a natural and there was precious little more he could teach her in a Hall.'
And so Journeywoman Glass-smith and Dragon Candidate Quora was brought to Earth, to Rocky Weyr, to await the next Clutch.
