Name: R'ner/ Rainer
(He prefers Rainer, and won't use R'ner after Noxceventh's illness.)
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Appearance: A man with average white skin tone, standing about five feet and ten inches. He's fond of black clothing, wearing mostly that color, fond of a short-sleeved riding jacket, standard black pants tucked into boots he rarely bothers to fasten all the way, and a thing sleeveless undershirt. He's almost always seen with a pair of black gloves, belted at the wrist and extending a ways up his forearm. (He wears them to cover a nasty threadscore on the back of one arm, and his right hand. it makes using his right hand rather painful, as the scar tissue and burn marks hinder movement.)
His eyes are a dark maroon-brown, though in certain light the tend to appear more strangely red; you'll notice immediately, as he has a habit of staring down people who talk to him, a sort of battle of wills thing; or maybe he's just selective. If you can't meet his gaze, why bother with you? His hair, cut semi-short but left falling over his face and the back of his neck, is a dark slate-gray color, almost seeming tinted a silvery blue in the right light.
His features are sharp, elegant, almost hawk like. His lips are always set in a firm line, and his expression is nearly always a neutral one, tending towards slightly stern. However, he's not rude, nor unpleasant, just serous and goal-oriented. He's slim, but not thin, with a lean coat of muscle that seems to have developed over a period of strict training, rather than a naturally hard life. He's somewhat sleek-looking too, though how to better define that is a hard task. He just seems to radiate a sort of feline slinkiness.
He isn't always the type to start a conversation, but he's more than happy to continue one should he be spoken to. He likes to do physical things, like exercise, or even simply climbing the sides of the weyrs just to do it. He moves with practiced grace, and always tries to move silently. (It's a thing he did when he was a child, and it's persisted even until now.)
He's affectionate to those he's grown close to, and while he won't alienate anyone, he's still sort of distant, and reluctant to reveal too much of himself right off the bat. He can also be annoyingly formal at times, and very chivalrous, to the point where it can get on some people's nerves.
Picture: Rainer
History: Rainer was born a weyrbrat, to a brownrider and a greenrider; he was their first child out of three. He had initially hoped to become a rider, though when he stood for the first time at thirteen, he was not chosen. After that, he contracted a lung disease that made him quite ill for a long time, and made strenuous activity incredibly difficult for years after. (A form of aggressive Pneumonia).
He opted to leave for the Weaver Hall after he recovered enough to travel, and, with his younger sister, (His middle brother became a Harper) went to be apprenticed at the age of fifteen. He stayed at Weaver hall for a few years, even finishing his apprenticeship, and earning his journeyman's mark just after his eighteenth birthday. Before starting anything else, he returned to visit his parents at Telgar's gather, to show off and to just visit.
He ended up staying a little longer than expected when one of Telgar's queen's began bugling the hatching of her latest clutch. There was an abnormally large number of eggs on the sands at the time, and since the eggs were shaking earlier than expected, the Weyr asked anyone of Weyrblood of the right age to stand to have a relatively reasonable amount of candidates. (The last searchriders had yet to return.) Since his parents were both riders, they insisted he try to stand once more, just to see. Rainer did so dutifully.
It was the very end of the hatching, when everyone had their eyes on three indecisive bronzes. None of the dragons could seem to make up their mind, inspecting every male candidate roughly then screaming when he was not theirs. One even examined Rainer, but furiously shoved him aside to meet a Holdboy from Nerat. Rainer just about gave up, but a stiff and nearly insulted voice cut in, asking him why he was so upset. Offhand, Rainer answered that he was sad, because he'd been so hoping to Impress a bronze.
The voice then asked him if he thought he was special.
Rainer said yes, without thinking.
The voice then smugly informed him that if he was special, then why did he want a bronze? They were slow and ugly. R'ner should be proud to have Impressed a lovely sleek blue like Noxceventh; blues were much better.
The new-named R'ner could only laugh, and he gave up his life as a Weaver to partner with the bossy blue.
There was little incident in their training, minus a fight with a fellow weyrling over some stupid thing which eventually led into the first lesson he got on how to tell if someone is being rude or if they're being affected by a proddy green. R'ner apologized to the boy, and made his first close friend when Noxceventh flew his green a few days later.
R'ner was always on the outer edge of any Wing formation, with other blues. Noxceventh was fast, and able to turn on a dime. However, a sudden fall left his wing badly prepared one day, and short on firestone. A clump of thread fell straight at Noxceventh's eye, and R'ner instinctively reached out to protect his beloved dragon. The thread badly scored his arm and hand.
A few years later, after another fall, in another place, Nox began to complain of pain in his hindleg. The healers couldn't figure out anything, so they applied numbweed (which didn't help), and sent him off. Days later it was his eye as well, and after that, his right wing. It wasn't until it got to the point Noxceventh could no longer walk that they inspected further.
That was when the disease was discovered. By that point, it had weakened the blue's immune system, and was spreading rapidly. The healers sent the pair to Rocky, where they did the surgeries needed to remove the affected tissue.
Noxceventh is healing now, and getting much better, but R'ner blames himself. Until Nox is healed and able to fly again at full strength, and recovers his weight and is healthy, the rider refuses to use his traditional shortened name, insisting to all he be called Rainer, as he doesn't deserve the honor of the foreshortened name until he can say he's done everything to help his partner.
(Nox thinks he's ridiculous, but does it to soothe him anyway.)
Firelizard Name: Lucis
Firelizard Color: Blue
Dragon Name: Noxceventh ( Nocks-sevv-enth; Nicknamed Nox)
Dragon Color: Blue
Dragon Defect/Injury: Amputation/ Flesh-eating disease.
Blue Noxceventh (#001132):
A disease of the flesh-destroying type severely affected Noxceventh's skin and organs, resulting in the eventual amputation of some body parts to keep the disease from spreading.
In total, Noxceventh lost his right eye, right hind leg to the knee, a section of the end of his tail, part of his left wing, four toes (the outermost and innermost on his left hindleg, his left foreleg's thumb and 'pinky') , and part of his left headknob, along with a few patches of skin/muscle that ended up grafted on along his side and right foreleg.
Due to the aggressiveness of the disease, they had to remove parts of his muscle and body to heal him. The right side of his head is gruesome, with the eye removed and part of the muscle taken to reveal the bone of his cheek and eye socket, around his cheek and up his muzzle along the bridge of his nose, giving his nose a skeletal look where the skin does not connect the middle. This is from a function of the bacteria that made it nearly impossible for the skin to re-grow over the affected areas.
(Rainer keeps a heavy bandage over the socket area to keep it sterile and healing, though he needs to change it occasionally.)
He is also missing the end of his tail and his right hind leg, amputated, and part of his left wing, near the shoulder joint, was removed, making it slightly weaker than his right. On the left wing, also, at the end of his wing phalanges, the skin was eaten away, as well as the muscle, revealing the bone. The wing membrane here does not connect until further up, where the skin is.
He's got a weak area on his left foreleg as well, where they had to surgically remove part of the muscle in his forearm, and a thin patch of scarred skin along his right-side ribs where the same thing was done. In these places, the skin was not affected, and healed over the wound, though the muscle did not.
There are still places the virus touched, giving him a somewhat zombie-like appearance, as if certain patches of his skin were decaying; but the virus is gone, it just left damage in it's wake; he's got nerve damage and some sensory disabilities where he can't feel touch certain places.
He's still able to fly, but it's slower and somewhat more difficult, though he practices to improve. He's learned to walk again, but long distances weary his still-sore foreleg. He has occasional flare ups of pain from the damaged areas of his body.
(He's also almost skeletally thin due to a severe lack of wanting to eat while he was being treated; he's rebuilding muscle and bodyweight now. HOWEVER, he will likely always be incredibly bony.)
Noxceventh is a very thin blue, both naturally and recently also due to his illness. His color as a very somber steel-blue mixed with gray, and he only is accented by a series of gray-blue markings; some darker, some lighter, that give him a very regal look.
Blue Lucis (#CCCCFF): Lucis is a cheerful if quiet little flit. He was gifted to R'ner before Noxceventh went in for his first sugery, as a way to keep the rider from going too mad while the dragon was under anesthesia.
Lucis adores his, and adores His' darkywingyblue. His favorite thing to do is to fly, and he likes the feeling of the nighttime air particularly. He was named for an old Terran word generally meaning 'Light', since after studying some of the elder Terran dialects, R'ner dicovered a word similarly like Noxceventh's name, (Noxcis) to mean 'Night' or 'Dark', hence he chose to name his flitter the opposite. And Lucis' cheerful personality and loving demeanor do indeed bring about thoughts of light.
Lucis is your average blue, his hide a very pale color that almost resembles periwinkle, but definitely reflects to a sky-blue. His wings are what set him apart, being a deep navy with nearly-white sky-blue and light blue markings in a pattern that resembles the night sky. This pattern also stretches into navy and pale-sky-blue speckles across his back and shoulders.
Flit's Age: 1.5 years- Spring Hatching
Dragon's Age: 10 Years- Summer Hatching
