Lyrah stroked the blue, her attention divided in half now. The already-fed blue beside her and the egg before her. She thought of what she might name the flit that hatched. She hoped it wasn't another green. It wasn't that she didn't love Kaena, but one green was plenty enough.
She hadn't really thought of any names when the egg did hatch.
The broken shell revealed a rich, dark colored Bronze who immediately began hissing at Prince. The blue jerked back, an almost shocked expression on his sweet face before he turned firm and marched up to the now bowing bronze. With a flare of condemnation in his steely eyes, he pushed the bronze over and nodded, as if his work was deemed satisfactory.
Lyrah bit her lip to keep from laughing. She scooped up the bronze in one hand and placed handful of raw meat in front of him. As if remembering the demands of newborn life, he lunged and began to eat. "Yes, you are a fistful, aren't you? What about Fox. You can be Fox." He ignored her.

Miriam's egg remained unmoved for the most part. But it did hatch. Very quietly, the egg shells flaked away from the little flitter inside. Within a few moments, Miriam had a green flit standing in her hand. The green was a pretty little girl. She was a light green flit with white greyish green membrane outline on her wings. And as she stood there she flared her wings lighting, chirping at Miriam with rainbow eyes. She knew she was a pretty green, and she wanted to act the part as well. Egg #4 #04fe85 Membrane outline of 8bf497 Glamorous and Responsible Looks to MiriamAnother egg started violently shaking at that time. It shook so hard that it tipped over into the egg next to it, causing cracks to appear on both shells. It hatched a moment later, egg shell fragments flying everywhere. One of the pieces of shell may even have cut the person near these two eggs. A brown flit stood there, growling around him. He paid no attention to the egg next to him, but instead turned to the boy before him. He growled again, baring his teeth. He was a handsome brown, with a bright brown, chocolate brown legs and tail, and mud brown stripes. The brown caught a whiff of something that smelled delicous and he ran for the bowl of meat. The brown almost literally jumped into the bowl, and began eating the meat. A movement out of the corner of his eye caught the brown's attention, and he turned to growl at it. At the same time it's eyes whirled with rainbow colors. Egg #17 #cc6002 Legs and tail of 834502 and Stripes of 321a01 Dangerous and Restless Looks to Hunter

And then, finally, the egg broke apart to reveal...oh, a miniature Rityth. She had two girls after all.
And a very pretty girl she was, although not as pretty as Rityth. But she had really nice... "You have the prettiest wings," she told the little flit, reaching for the food she had to cement the bond. Apparently she was hatched knowing it, too.
Maybe that should be her name. Pretty Wings. Or was it too long? It was borderline on failing the call test, so important for pet names. Just Wings was silly, with there being so many winged creatures around and just Pretty was...
No. None of those would work. She would have to think a little more about this. Maybe a lot more. Either way...the green was posing again.
No. No thought at all, in the end. "You're just like a little fashion Model." The Pernese might not get it, but Miriam did not care.

So many eggs hatching!! Shasta looked around at all the newly impressed blues, browns, bronzes, and greens. Then she turned back to her own egg with the '15' marked on its side. When would it finally hatch? "Come on little guy! Dont you know I want to meet'cha?" she pleaded with the creamy shell. She reached out and stroked it gently.
Jas popped in unexpectedly from Between, causing the Weyrling to jump a little. "You goose! Dont do that!" she scolded the Blue. But she didnt mean it, she was glad of his company. He settled down on the sand next to her and looked quizzically at the egg. "Yeah! you're gonna have a new friend." She murmured to him. She scratched his eye ridges absentmindedly as she continued to watch her little prize.

The egg that Garrik cradled so gently suddenly started shaking. It shook for a few moments, perhaps encouraged by the sounds of its siblings, before cracks began to appear on the surface of the egg. One large crack went around the entire egg, dividing it diagonally. Suddenly, cleanly, it hatched. The top half of the egg slid to the side, and a bright blue flit lay curled up in the bottom half of the egg. He lifted his wedge shaped head and looked at Garrik, eyes swirling with rainbows. Then the little flit opened its mouth and started cheeping. Egg #12 #15ebe8 Garrulous and Self-centered Looks to GarrikA slight hush fell over the gathered flits as the egg labeled with a red '1' began to hatch. Cracks appeared slowly, the egg rocking almost peacfully. Reyna nudged the slight egg, seemingly to encourage the flitter inside to hatch. When it finally did everyone seemed surprised. Except for the firelizards around the sands. A creamy gold flit stood in the remains of the egg, flaring her wings. She had dusty gold stripes adorning her body. She moved her head around slowly, taking in the scene, before she moved. Picking her way across the hot sands, the little gold came to sit at the feet of someone already holding her green sister. Chirping at the girl, the gold stared up at her with rainbow swirling eyes. Egg #1 #fae861 Stripes of dec402 Peaceful and Sociable Looks to Miriam

Miriam was pretty much focused on Model. She hadn't even noticed, really, Garrik's egg hatching. Or the unclaimed one...perhaps set aside for some reason. The other unclaimed firelizard had gone to Lyrah, so the unclaimed egg would probably end up with...somebody.
What she did notice was that the firelizards were actually humming even louder, if that was possible, and when she looked up, she saw the unclaimed egg fall apart to reveal...oh! A queen! Well, it had been the larger egg and even though firelizard golds did not have metallic shells, it shouldn't have been a surprise...or should it?
She was the most beautiful thing imaginable...second to Model and Rityth, of course. And she was taking her time moving, wandering across the Sands...then...Miriam realized that her course, while not exactly straight, was pretty much towards her. Part of her was holding her breath. Another part was, well...she didn't know if she wanted Model to be eclipsed by this princess, her hide light with dusky stripes and she was, absolutely, perfect.
They both were. No, all three of them were...no firelizard, really, could compete with her dragon. Not even a queen, not even a queen that was clearly determined to share her with Model. "Well..." A quiet little princess, she thought...there was a sense of peace form her. "Diana," Miriam decided after a moment.

"Yow!" Hunter yelled suddenly, clutching at his bleeding arm. A piece of shell from the egg that had explosed had landed to slice right through his arm on the way to who knows where. Guess it wanted a little taste of him for the ride. Looking at the brown, snarling creature before him, the shell matched the disposition of the dragon lizard thingie. Already he was snarling and hissing and ready to take a chunk out of him. Until he saw the bowls of meat and bowled right into them.
Hunter just sat and glared at the gorgeous, dangerous looking brown. He almost looked feral; on second thought, maybe he was. Carefully manuevering his uninjured arm, he managed to grab the remaining egg. For his effort, he got another growl and a pair of swirly rainbowy eyes.
He paid no attention to the others. He didn't really understand the importance of a Gold flit being hatched, so he paid no mind. Later, perhaps, he would understand, but not today; today, he was caught in the bliss of ignorance.
After a few minutes of staring, he would remember the fact that all little ones new to the world needed names. "Roc," he would say, remembering the bad tempered myths. Yep, perfect for the beast.
((ran out of time to do anyone else. I'll be back on tomorrow morning!))

Yamina paid the gold flit little attention. She was too focused on the egg in her own hands, which had begun to hatch. Big chunks of the shell had fallen away, and she could see a dark hide within. She smiled, wishing and hopeing and begging silently for the beloved little creature inside to hatch. It finally did, very simply. With a chirp a dark green head popped out of the weakened shell. Slowly an olive green body followed. Lastly the tail emerged, whipping side to side, and revealed rich green rings on it. The little green spread her wings, flapping them slightly to dry them, and turned around. She caught sight of Yamina, who had reached down to grab some meat and offer it to her, and chirped again. She gently took the meat from Yamina's hand, chirping a thanks with almost every offering. Yamina couldn't help the smile on her face as she watched her new flit. "I'll call you Charm." She whispered to the green. Egg #10 #577c26 Head of 2e5002, tail rings of 04a825 Reliable and Charming Looks to YaminaThe egg nestled in the hands of a weyrling suddenly broke, a small hole opening in the top of the shell. Chirps and growls could be heard from within, and it wasn't long before a rich dark blue nose appeared. As the flit fought to get out of the egg, the cracked shell scratched him. The blue seemed fearless, however, as he continued to fight his way out. Finally, with many scratches adorning his body, he stood on the hand of the Healer weyrling that had held his egg. With a chirp the blue looked around, searching for food.

"Oh!" Shasta murmured. She was a little surprised to see a gold hatchling, it looked like Reyna was laying a Gold almost every clutch! Faizah must be very proud! Jas' eyes whirled a pleasant blue at the addition of another Gold to the Weyrs' fair. He gave a happy cheep of hello and then went back to looking at the little egg that belonged to HisPrettyOne. Shasta kept looking around though, and saw the cute green and then the spunky blue hatch.
Longingly, The Green Weyrling's gaze returned to her little egg. She so wanted to know what kind of flitter was hiding behind that shell. Was it Green? Bronze? Was it Pristine? Sassy? She glanced around at the other weyrfolk there and took a little solace in the fact that hers wasn't the only one that had yet to hatch. Gah! Waiting, though manageable, was so... suspenseful!

And, indeed, the hatching was not over yet, but Miriam was actually moving back from it with her two flits.
She really did not feel it would be at all fair for her to end up with a third, when one of the two she had was the clutch's queen...and such a gorgeous creature she was, too.
She made a mental note not to treat Model as in any way lesser than her sister, even if her eggs would not be in so much demand. Rityth, waking, sent curious tendrils into her mind. She sent her dragon back images of the little ones, and got an interested mental purr in response.
Good, her beautiful green was not at all or remotely jealous, as she had been a little worried she might.

Three eggs hatched almost in unison. One egg, a second or two before the others, hatched in the hands of the Candidatemaster. The egg shells fell from around the flit, falling to the sands, as the chocolate brown stood there. His wings were flared slightly and his tail whipped from side to side almost aggressively. He was a highly marked flitter, but he just continued to watch J'kent. The second one was Shasta's. It hatched only a second after the first, and it also revealed a brown. This revealed a coffee brown flitter. Almost as soon as he was hatched he bowed his head, looking at the hand holding him. His wings fluttered sullenly, and his tail was half tucked under him like a scared dog. Last was the egg held by Sarah. It was the slowest of the three to hatch, but the flit inside was quite a fellow. Another brown hatched, a medium brown this time, and he looked at Sarah's food offering as if it was going to bite him. Then, almost visciously, he began to gobble down the food. Sarah giggled slightly. This was interesting. She had a brown dragon, a brown horse, and now a brown flit! She shook her head, trying to think of a name for the little flitter. And almost as suddenly as he had hatched, she had a name for him. "Spark! That's what I'll call you." She said with a smile. The brown looked up at the sound of her voice, slowly swallowing the food he had in his mouth. His eyes swirled rainbow for a moment, then he turned back to his food. ((Assuming that he is the only Healer Weyrling on the premises....)
Th'orn frowned down at his egg as furious scratching and growling could be heard within. Holding the egg a little farther away from his torso, he watched patiently as, finally, a blue nose peaked out, forcing itself out roughly even as he fought to get the rest of his body out. the Stormweyrling's frown deepened as he noticed the scratches that had begun to adorn the small body.
However, he would not interfer with the hatching.
After what would seem like forever to some, h calmly sat the bowl of meat before the hungry firelizard.
Th'ornused his eyes to search the blue's body over for serious bleeding. The little thing couldn't go between for a while, not with so many scratches. He had a salve that he could use to hasten the healing....but until the thing Impressed, he wasn't going to do to much. At the moment, all he could was hold him and feedhim the small globules of meat.
J'kent eyed the flitter in his hands just as the flitter eyed him. Weighing each other up, checking each other out, they stood there as the telltale near-chaos spun around them. Eventually one would break, and the Greenrider was positive it wouldn't be him, even if he had to resort to cheating.
"Boo!" he blurted suddenly, jumping forward slightly and startling the thing enoungh that it jumped and blinked. With a smirk, the Candidate Master offered him a gob of bloody meat, freshly hacked. He kept it just out of reach, aiming to get the thing to move from his hand to his upper arm and shoulder.

When the blue in Th'orn's hands was satisfied, his belly sticking out on both sides, the blue turned to face the man holding him. J'kent chuckled as he finally let the exasperated brown have the chunk of meat. He was a beatiful shade of red-brown, and bviously had expectations befit for a Lord. Perhaps, he mused, he should name him for the touchy Holder's sons he so perfectly seemed to represent.
"Lordling, my friend, we are going to have quite a time together," he said, grinning. Rune would never get a moment's rest with this one, and Dust wouldn't care much. Poor blue. Sometimes, one would wish he wasn't such a natural servant. _________________________________________________________________________
Th'orn, still cool and collected, watched as the bue stuffed himself with the contents of the bowl. Like all other flits, he seemed to have an unsatiable diet, and it wasn't until it was empty that he managed to force himself to turn to face the Weyrling.
Th'orn had long since decided on names for different colors. If blue, he had decided, the name would be Vino, more in memory to an old drunk of Southern than anything.
Standing, looked to the Weyrwoman. "Thank you, Faizah, for the opportunity." With that, he turned on his heal and strode off toward his quarters. Those scartches needed to be looked after.

Hunter, still watching Roc carefully, almost missed his second egg hatching. The disagreeable brown had decided to sleep on the boy's shoulder, but it was not a restful sleep. He twitched and growled like a dog having dreams of a hunt. He could imagine exactly what the brown has hunting, too: Hunter!
In truth, he didn't even notice the second brown until he started to whine, a high pitched thrumming sound by his hand.
"Oh!" he said, startled, as he looked down. He had completely forgotten about the second egg. He reached for the bowl, frowning as he took in the mess Roc had made. "Uh, here. Eat up." And so the brown ate.
What would he name him? he wondered. He seemed so pitiful and pathetic. Wesley was the first name that he came up with. Just a plain, run-of-the-mill, not-fancy name. It worked.
((RIP Wesley! You were an awesome little guy rat! Be happy in rat heaven!)) _________________________________________________________
Lyrah had only stayed thus far because Fox and Prince were still squabbling and she was curious about how the other Impressions would take place. In no way, none whatsoever, had she expected to get a second flit, let alone a third!
And yet, it happened anyway.
She was sitting there, and she watched as a newcomer, she forgot her name, cradled her egg. It cracked and hatched, as always, but this little one seemed to have no wish to Impress her egg-holder. Instead, the greened fanned her wings a few times and glidedto the ground where she took a few shy steps. She glanced around a noticed, to the Weyrlings great dismay, Lyrah and her mostly empty meat bowls. She zippef toward her, and petitely bit into one of the lasts bits of bloody meat.
"Surprise, surprise," she muttered, almost glaring at the green. Now she had five instead of three! Lots of surprises today. "That may as well be your name. Surprise. Figures." Without bothering to look at the most likely furious Blanche, Lyrah stood and herded the blue and brown back toward the clutch. "Guess I'll need another of these," she said dryly as she grasped another bowl. ____________________________________________________
Brittany wasn't paying any attention to what was going on around her. One second, she was alone with Walelu, the next second, there was a pink, yes, a pink, firelizard was chittering at her as he showed of his pretty bluish dots and blue-grey wings.
His eyes were already doing their rainbow thing, and the girl could feel his hunger through a newly formed bond. I guess that you do not have much choice, BrittanyMine. He is yours now,and he needs meat,[/color] Useckot murmured, unperturbed as usual. At his prompting, she stood, balancing the green and blue in her arms and proceeded to collect one of the spare bowls.
Eventually, after a few days of brainstorming, Brittany will think of a name: Peri, after his periwinkle hide. Wasn't the perfect name but it would work.
