I.C. Date: Week of 15 January 2012 I.C. Time: 7:37 a.m. It began with the sound of humming, deep and unbroken. Xenith had begun it, but slowly other dragons were joining in and adding their voices. Even the little. small-minded firelizards were humming now. The Queen had risen from her protective circle and stood back, watching the now slowly rocking, hardenned eggs as the occupants began to prepare to Hatch. Only her smallest, the possible White, still sat still. She nestled it between her enormous paws. Sam, Jackaloth, it's happening! came her excited voice, ringing with hope and adoration. Sam had just risen herself, her hair still mussed as she gathered food from the kitchens. She was happily confused at the impromptu summons. For a good five to ten seconds she just stood there, staring at the sugared peaches and milk in her hands as her half-asleep brain processed what she had been told. Finally, it registered. Yelping, she dropped the food and made a mad dash toward the Sands. You silly creature, tell the Candidates! And tell the Rocky dragons! she very nearly shrieked mentally, remembering that the Candidates of both Weyrs were participating in this Hatching. Six eggs lay in the Sands before the towering Gold, trembling with the life they held trapped from the world outside. Dozens of flits had arrived by now, all zooming through the air above and around the eggs and Gold. At first the Gold paid no mind, but when one, a Green, tried to land on a plain khaki shell the roared, snapping at the creature, who squealed and vanished between. "Momi. You are to stay here," Tatsuya informed his very young green. She cheeped at him.
"Here." He backed up his words with the image of her staying right where she was until he called for her. He didn't want to risk the hatchling firelizard becoming a meal for a hungry gold.
Something fluttered in his stomach as he thought about the gold dragon. She had laid only six eggs and apparently driven off another female that had intended to clutch. And there were candidates coming from the other Weyr.
Well, that went both ways. Surely if they were letting Rocky Candidates come here, they'd let him go there if he didn't Impress a dragon this time.
If he didn't. He hoped not a green...Momi was gorgeous and adorable and a wonderful color, but he knew what they said about men who Impressed greens and then he'd have no chance of getting a girlfriend. It was hard enough as it was.
White robes made him feel like something out of an anime, but he pulled them on anyway. Sandals to protect his feet without overheating them. Don't run. He wanted to run, because he was afraid in that moment that the eggs would hatch without him. He knew if he ran, he'd probably trip on something and embarrass himself, though.
So, he walked, quickly, to the Hatching sands, then bowed to the queen, with a degree that indicated that for now he thought of her as a superior. She was the mother of his dragon. He hoped.
Having arrived at about the time of the clutching, he had not seen the gold up close. She was huge, bigger than any other dragon, and light yellow-gold in color. She held the smallest egg, which wasn't twitching, between her paws. He would love, he thought, a picture of that to hang on his walls...the tender way she held it, the maternal gentleness at odds with her tremendous size.

We come! Jackaloth called back to Xenith as Tamahome leapt astride the brown dragon. As Jackaloth took to the skies, he called to white Surth at Rocky. Xenith's eggs hatch. Bring your Candidates!
Jackaloth and Tamahome landed in the Sands. Jackaloth let Tamahome dismount and take his place in the Stands before sidling up next to Xenith. Tamahome smiled at his dragon, and waved slightly at Tatsuya. The boy was obviously nervous about Impressing. Jackaloth noticed she cradled the smallest of their eggs in her forepaws. He rubbed his muzzle along her jawbone, humming as he did so.
Aurora was grudgingly on her way to the Sands for the hatching. Faith had already left, and had apparently taken over one of the ledges. Aurora was walking through the halls, very mad, and hating the gold and her rider more than ever before. The weyrling's pregnancy with the Weyrleaders child was what had caused Aurora's bad mood for days now...
---
Surth's head lifted, and he started humming. Faizah, doing some paperwork, heard the humming and leapt to her feet. "The gold clutch? But it's too soon!" She cried. She had already grabbed her shoes and were hurrying to put them on when Surth stopped her.
Not our gold clutch. Isle's. Brown Jackaloth tells me that gold Xenith's clutch is hatching. Our Candidates are expected.
Faizah breathed a sigh of relief. The strange gold clutch on the sands of Rocky had been constantly on her mind since it had been laid. She was expecting something, anything to go wrong with the clutch.
But the suddenly she actually understood what Surth had said. "Then call our Candidates! We have to get them over to the Sands..." Faizah exclaimed, hurrying to put her shoes on. Once they were on she ran down to Kain's weyr, letting him know what was happening. Kain began hurrying as well.
Candidates! Get your robes on and get to the Weyrbowl. We are going to a hatching! Surth called out to the Candidates.
---
Nathan had only been at Isle for a few days when he heard the obvious humming. He was in his room when he heard it, from his flit, and reached over lazily for the robe. He knew what to do. He had read the instructions a thousand and one times. But today he was slightly depressed. Thoughts of his mother, and his family, were circling his head.
Nathan pulled the robe on, commanded his flit to stay in the room, and headed for the Sands. He had never seen the gold, and he was looking forward to it a bit. It would be exciting, to say the least. Today was the day he might Impress a dragon...
Nathan got to the Sands before the eggs hatched. Most of them were shaking, but what really caught his attention was the massive gold dragon. She was obviously the mother, curled around the eggs as she was. And the brown next to her was smaller than her, but no less impressive in size. If anything, it caught Nathan's attention more because of the severe scarring on the brown's hide.
Forgetting himself for a moment, Nathan shook his head. He approached and bowed to the gold, then to the brown. For added measure. He didn't want to insult either of the parents of the clutch. They very well might be the parents to his dragon...

As Raynee heard the news of the hatching she scrambled around to look for Faizah. "Faizah! Where are you?!" As she ran around the weyr looking for Faizah she nearly ran straight into her. "There you are!" She exclaimed. "Did you hear the news?"

Ayanna heard the news and hurried to get ready. Her white robe and the matching sandals were in her room, and she had been in the library when the summons came. With a giant grin on her face, Ayanna ran to her room.
Gold Xenith's clutch was hatching! And while there were only six eggs on the sands, it was enough of a chance for her to Impress. As far as she knew, there were only two other Candidates here at Isle. Ayanna was more than ready and willing to Impress.
After throwing on her robe and the sandals, she ran for the sands. She didn't want to be late for the Hatching. She wanted a fair chance to Impress a young dragon. And the only way she would get that fair chance was if she arrived before they broke shell.
As she reached the sands she paused and gasped. There were two other candidates there already, both boys, and the golden queen curled around her eggs was quite the scene. Ayanna had stood at a Hatching before, and she knew that usually the Queen held the gold egg between her forepaws. There was no gold egg in this clutch, but she did notice that the Queen was clutching the smallest of the eggs between her claws. Ayanna smiled at the motherly scene.
She approached the Queen and bowed deeply. Then she turned and bowed to brown Jackaloth, the father of the clutch.

Marith trumpetted as she relayed the news to her Rider, J'kent. Rally them, friend-of-mine! Get your students away and to the Sands of Isle! Marith had needed some good news very badly lately, and for the moment, this was the perfect opportunity to be a happy, cheerful dragon.
The tall, mischievious eyed man laughed and jogged into the Candidate barracks. "Get your scrawny buts up, you lazy things! You are needed elsewhere!" he roared, as he began passing Candidates' doors. "There's a Hatching and you're still in bed? Don't you want to Impress! Up! Up!" He supposed Marith's sudden good humor had infected him as well.
He laughed as Rune and Dust suddenly appeared, flyng in quick circles and lazy loops respectively. He well remembered his own Impression day, all those years ago. He hoped some of the Candidates here Impressed like he did. ______________________
An old Pernese superstition stated that if a Green hatched first in a Hatching, bad luck was coming to the Weyr. It may or may not be true, but it was the nature of people to gossip and speculate such things. In recent times, it had become an all too real reality. With the great size of clutches and Dragonets, Greens were often Hatched first. On Pern, before the treaties and agreements with this new world, the bad luck was the fact that so many young Dragonets went between without ever having Impressed. Lately, with the motherless clutch in Rocky's Sands and the taking of unhatched eggs some months ago, that ancient theory had again come to play within the front of some minds.
And just to prove them right, an egg suddenly shattered not so suddenly. It was more like a slow shower of small fragments of shell, falling slowly of of the membrane of one of the smaller eggs. The membrane within seemed untouched.
Very few saw the spectacle. The egg didn't seem to care that it did not have an audience of grand proportions. It just slowly broke the shell apart from within the membrane, leaving the thin skin untouched and without tears. When finally only about half of the shell remained as a kind of bowl, the falling fragments ceased to exist except for the low pile serving as a powdery nest on top of the hot sands.
A Green emerged, stretching slowly and somewhat dramatically as the membrane slid down her neck and slim shoulders. For those who knew Earth history and fashion, a French masquerade mask shrouded her face from view. She was slim and rather small, one had to admit, but she was well-proportioned and altogether rather dainty and precious looking.
As if forgeting the small crowd watching her past that first shy glance, she gracefully arced her neck and began to carefully clean herself. Maybe she would Impress, she reasoned. But not yet. No, not yet. She must look her best when she found her Heart.

Tatsuya eyed the green warily. He knew of the superstition, but thought it silly. Half of all dragons were green, so there was a very high chance of one of them hatching first.
But he did not want a green. He did not want all the Pernese girls thinking he was gay and ignoring him...especially as most girls reacted that way to him anyway.
The green, though, was in no hurry to Impress. In fact, she was too busy...cleaning herself? He laughed a bit. Silly, vain creature...although he was glad Momi was not there. He definitely would not trust the hatchling dragons, already far larger than Momi would be as an adult, not to eat her. Deliberately or even accidentally.
The green was very...female, he thought. Feminine and delicate, in fact, she made him think of... "She's a geisha," he murmured. "A geisha dragon." Such made sense to a mind steeped in Japanese tradition. Except she was wearing a mask rather than hiding her elegant features behind a fan.
Still, it was a great image. And he had to admit she was pretty, even if he hoped she would not choose him.

Tamahome agreed with Tatsuya. The green was gorgeous, but with only three Candidates on the sands, he had to wonder where the Rocky Candidates were. He and Faizah had agreed that they would stand for Xenith's clutch. But he wouldn't be insulted if she decided not to give up her precious Candidates. Rocky did have the abandoned Gold clutch on the sands...
Aurora sighed, remembering that day many years ago when she Impressed a green dragonet. She sent waves of love and adoration to Faith, who just continued to hum.
---
Faizah turned when Raynee almost ran into her. She nodded to the girl. "Get changed into your robe and get to the 'bowl. Surth and I will give you a ride." She said. Kain nodded, leaving his weyr and hurrying out to the Weyrbowl ahead of Faizah. Gorth and Surth both had their riding harnesses on and were waiting in the 'bowl.
Theody, the second failed wher Candidate, heard the summons. She wondered, thinking maybe she should try to Impress a dragon. She sighed and crawled out of bed, grabbing the white robe they gave to all Candidates. She pulled it on and headed out to the Weyrbowl. It was freezing outside, but she quickly talked to Kain and he agreed to let her try her luck.
Yamina jumped out of bed, changed into her robe and ran out of the door. There she almost ran into J'kent. "Is it the Gold clutch? Is it hatching early?" She asked in a rush.
---
Nathan watched the green, cringing from it a little. He didn't want a green any more than the other boy Candidate next to him. Greens were too out there. Too much energy, too little stamina...
Not to mention that green, while pretty, screamed gay if it Impressed a guy. He didn't want to appear gay, even though he had to problem with gays.

J'kent snarted as a girl came sprinting out, almost screaming at whether the Clutch was hatching early. "Nah! It's the Isle Clutch, and we're late! Go get your robe on and Marith will take you and whoever else is ready. I have more to get up and out of bed." He smiled warmly as he clasped a rough hand on her shoulder. "That clutch of ours is fine. It will hatch strong and healthy drqgonets, you wait and see!" With that, he turned her gently around and gave a small shobe back toward her room.
She worries, as do we all, Marith murmured, her exuberant mood darkening slightly. When I think of what I would do to those oath-breaking, egg-smashing, sharding idiots that did that to them!
Peace, for now, my heart. Let this be a day without hatred? he soothrd, begged. This was a Hatching Day, an Impression Day. There was no need to.poison it. Will her bring Yamina and whoever else needs a ride? she hummed in acceptance of the charge.
Xenith purred as the young Green emerged rather dramatically from her shell. She was very beautiful, pale.with even more pale markings across her head. Yet she did not Impress. She sat down and started to clean herself instead. Oh, well. She would do as she did when she was good and ready.
Ours. and so beautiful, she murmured, meaning not only the Hatchling, but also those unhatched. To her, even the plain, mottled shells were beautiful and more precious than almost anything else. Only Sam could top.that list.
She laid her neck down underneath Jackothoth's, carefully making sure that the tiny egg remained safe. She was content.
Sam smiled as she reached Tamahome in time to see Xenith lay down beside and underneath Jackaloth. She slipped an arm around him, hugging him but slightly. She had seem Aurora a.few moments ago. She was still as black-tempered as a thunderhead, and many times.as dangerous.

"Sweet Jesus on High! Im LATE!!!!!" Katerina was in a frenzy, how could she sleep through a dragon wake up call? Making split second prioritization, she grabbed a robe hoping it was white and pulled out her hair brush to use on her way to the Hatching Sands. I need to be presentable but i NEED TO BE ON TIME!!!! She lamented to herself. She left her room, getting the knots out of her dark locks. She tried a pep talk, I can do this, I can do this! It wasnt working very well, but hey she had nothing to lose as far as nerves went. As she got to the sands she chucked her brush into the hall, no need for anyone to see how she had rushed. She stepped into the grand space and immediately thought not of the beauty of the scene, the hugeness of the dragons, or even that there were so few candidates, but G-d Jesus! My Sandals! She, in her haste, had left without her footwear. It was definitely too late to go back, but she knew that she would be there in the scorching heat for a while. She also knew what she had to do though, so she continued on to where the other candidates stood, masking the discomfort which would soon turn into pain. I guess ill have another memento of this day, itll be worth it times ten though if im chosen.

Tatsuya began to get a little concerned as the green still did not move. If she didn't Impress at all, then that would be bad.
He might not want her, but he didn't want the little geisha to die. "Come on, girl, you need to make a decision."
Maybe she was finding it hard to choose? Maybe there was nobody here. Or maybe... He glanced towards the young woman who had just rushed onto the Sands, without her sandals. Ow. She was going to be regretting that. But maybe she wouldn't...maybe she was who the green was waiting for. He didn't know Katerina particularly well, but he was sure she deserved to Impress and the green might well fit her.
"How about her?" he murmured, not *really* talking to the unImpressed dragon. Talking to himself, really, but it helped calm his nerves about the situation. He was starting to feel tense.

Faizah noticed that everyone was gathered. Surth had received word that Marith and J'kent were transporting Candidate Yamina, and she knew there were no other Candidates. She nodded to Raynee and they quickly mounted Surth. With a leap from the strong dragon, they were in the air and gone between.
They came out above Isle, Surth slowly spiraling down so that Raynee and Faizah could get off. Faizah looked up and noticed Kain, Gorth and Theody above them. She knew soon that J'kent, Marith and Yamina were going to get there.
Surth landed and she and Raynee dismounted. Faizah immediately headed for the stands, where she saw Samira and Tamahome, and where Aurora was just now approaching. Then Faizah's attention fell to the unImpressed green dragonet cleaning herself. She smiled, but was slightly worried. If it didn't Impress it would go between...
Theody ran onto the sands, wondering if any of the dragons would find her worthy. She smiled at the green, wondering how pretty she was. She reminded Theody of a geisha as well, and she smiled at her "sister". Theody fondly remembered her own geisha training.
---
Tamahome hugged Samira back, whispering in her ear. "How do you feel, love?"
Jackaloth hummed slightly deeper when Xenith laid down under him. he laid his head lightly on her neck, watching their children. Jackaloth agreed without words with Xenith. Their children were beautiful.

As if hearing the urging of that lone Candidate, the Green stood and looked almost shyly around. There were very few to look at, but look at she would. There was her dam and sire, side by side, and their Riders. There were others that had just arrived, now setting some of those without a dragon to the hot Sand beneath the shell that protected her paws. And again, there were more watching her. Her! She ducked her head, arcing her neck so her chin rested on her collar bone.she looked somewhat embarrassed, but yet oddly pleased that she was getting any attention. finally, she unfolded her neck enough to be comfortable as she strode gracefully onto the Sand. She would forever view that as perhaps the biggest mistake she had ever made and would make again. With a high pitched squeal, she leapt back onto the shell that had hatched her. The crystalline grains bit into her delicate hide, giving her a sensation that she had not beenprepared for. Why was it so hard to walk on the heated stuff that she had been in since Clutched? It wasn't fair! My Soul! Help me! Help Wreath! It hurts! she cried out, racing the the one person who she knew would always understand her. Katerina! Why does it hurt me so? Wreath whimpered, cowering in her shell bowl. Tatsuya knew that the green dragon had not really listened to him. He had just made a lucky guess that the reason for her delayed Impression had been because the Candidate meant for her had been late. The delicate green stepped onto the sand, then squealed...apparently, for all that dragons were supposed to be tough, the geisha found the sand a little hot. Or prickly, maybe.
Definitely a geisha, that one, elegant, delicate, ladylike and likely above anything that might be difficult, but then she raced to Katerina, as he had guessed and half-expected. Tatsuya was relieved she had not chosen him, relieved she had chosen, and drawing his attention to the remaining eggs. Maybe one of them...would contain a nice blue, brown or if he was really lucky bronze for him. Bronzes, he had been told, only Impressed straight guys. With one of them, nobody would ever doubt his manhood again.

Katerina was deep in thought to distract herself from her already sore feet. She just knew they were going to blister! Instead she wondered about who the beautiful green hatchling would choose, whether or not she should have said hi to the other candidates when she came in, what she would do if she really was chosen, etc.
Needless to say she was quite unprepared when the little green let out a shrill note of surprise and pain. Katerina's head immediately cleared of all its clutter, that poor dear! What had happened?? Was she ok?? But then she heard the green speak. At first she thought it was meant for someone else, it couldnt be her! But then the dragonette was running toward her! maybe the green was just confused and running the wrong direction? Suddenly however, she was overcome with pain in her feet and hands.
Katerina! Why does it hurt me so?
Now there could be no mistake. That wonderful, innocent, beautiful creature was HERS! And she hers in kind! My darling! my heart! Im here! she cried in her mind. Any semblance of regal propriety she had salvaged from before was tossed out the door as she ran over to her other half to offer comfort and aid. The new green Weyrling scooped her charge into her arms, and though heavy and cumbersome she was Katerina didnt notice. All she could think of was her, yes HER, dragon and how to make it all better. She teetered away a little then plopped to the ground, Wreath carefuly cradled (as best as possible) in her lap. Is this better my heart?
This is perfect KatMine The little green snuggled her head against Katerina's shoulder and let out a prum of happiness.
Kat?, The girl thought to herself, Well, if its from her I like it.
KatMine, now I hunger. As if to punctuate the thought, her stomach made a loud rumbley sound.
"I guess we'll have to fix that then!" Katerina said out loud, grinning from ear to ear.

Faizah watched as the green suddenly made her choice. The Candidate without sandals, it seemed, was now the rider of that gorgeous little green. She smiled. It was good to see people Impressing their own dragonets. And for once, since they were clutched, the gold clutch was far from the redhead's mind.
Kain smiled as well, also glad that the green had chosen. And what a pair those two would make. He couldn't help but chuckle a little. The regal dragonet and the candidate that forgot her sandals. Yup, they would make quite a pair.
Theody watched as the green Impressed what could only be an Isle Candidate. She had hoped the little geisha would choose her, but it wasn't meant to be. That was fine. Theody was here just to see if a dragon might prefer her over a wher. If she didn't Impress, it was okay. She was still young enough to stand again...
---
Nathan sighed with relief when the green Impressed the girl Isle Candidate. It seemed like a good match to him, but what did he know?
Nathan glanced over to see who had arrived, since he had that small luxury without a hatched dragonet on the sands. A candidate had arrived on a very large white dragon, and another had arrived on a bronze dragon. But what caught Nathan's attention was in the stands.
A flash of red hair. Very familiar red hair. Could it possibly be Faizah? Nathan didn't dare hope, but he would have time to explore that possibility after the hatching. He gave a shaky sigh as he turned away from the stands, back to the clutch.

Samira beamed up at the Brownrider. "I am fantastic! Perfect!" she laughed, her hazel eyes dancing. And she was. She was feeling the best she had in the last several weeks. "Our guests are here!" she cried as the first of the Rocky dragons appeared from between. Surth, the enormous white, and Gorth, the weaker Bronze, and moments later, a pine-colored Green, probably the Candidatemaster's. Each held two riders, the Impressed, and the Candidate. "Should we go say hello?" Sam asked, eyeing Aurora's dark-humored face. "Good luck, Yamina!" J'kent said as he helped the girl down. The others were already off and virtually running onto the Sands. An egg had already hetched, a Green with a darker mask. Very beautiful, yet not as beautiful as Marith. Marith hummed in satisfaction.
A deafening crack filled the air as another egg hatched, or rather, exploded. Shell scattered for several feet in every direction, even hitting Xenith and Jackaloth. In the midst of the epicenter of momentary chaos, stood a rather large and rich-colored Bronze. A piece of rounded shell perched on one headknob and covered half his head. With some weird, very fluid jerks that required him to bend his neck and move in a sliding motion, he looked around, watching the surrounding crowd of dragons and humans. Broadcasting his thoughts, he said, rather pointedly Sorry I'm late! Those shells just don't give up! Anyone know where my Rider is? You know, he's called, uh.... he looked down, as if searching his memory. Which, of course, he didn't have to. Tatsuya! That's it! He paused, staring even more pointedly at the young man standing not so far away. Waiting for a few more moments, he collapsed in mock horror. Come on! You can't foget me! I'm yours, you're mine, you know the deal! Finally, Chochath stood and marched to the man. Come on. I'm hungry. Can we go eat now? Color: Bronze d3941d Markings: 7d5a17 tiger-like stripes on hind legs Size (full-grown): 39 ft. Apparently, dragon eggs could hatch...well...rather violently. The next one pretty much flew apart, a piece of shell even hitting Tatsuya on the shoulder.
"Hey..." Okay. He couldn't really blame the dragon. Which was, he noted, rather larger than the green female and a rich, almost shiny color. He had interesting markings on his hind legs. Like a tiger. Definitely a he...and loud, too.
Loud? Tatsuya wasn't quite used to dragon telepathy, and for a moment he felt like he was inside the dragon's voice...and if this was a hatchling, what would he...oh, definitely a he...sound like as an adult? And he was asking everyone present if he'd seen his rider. Tatsuya couldn't help but laugh. "Aren't you supposed to know who your rider is?"
The dragon made a great show of collapsing to the ground and Tatsuya felt his laughter as an echo of his own, and an odd sense of being...very hungry. Then the hatchling was standing up and walking right to him. "Oh, right. You do know...who I am."
Everything he had wanted stood there on the sands, and he knew...that there was more to a bronze than just the proof that he was a man (and a straight one, dang it). "And I know who you are, Chochath." He hadn't consciously registered the dragon's name, but he *knew* it.
The way, no doubt, Chochath had known his. And there was more of that rumbling hunger that he realized wasn't his. The hatchlings had to use up all of the yoke well before they hatched. This dragon...his dragon...needed food. And laughter. He could still feel the laughter.
No, this dragon was not the serious creature he had somehow expected, but he was something far better...he was absolutely and utterly *silly*. And that suited Tatsuya just fine.

Nathan ducked and threw his arms up to protect his eyes when the latest egg hatched. What an explosive entrance! When Nathan looked, he noticed a bright colored dragonet, much bigger than the green, and with stripes on his hind legs. He, a bronze and therefor male, was gorgeous.
Nathan smirked as the dragonet complained about his rider, then collpased onto the ground. That dragon was a drama king! And as the dragonet headed over to the other male Isle Candidate, Nathan knew that those two would make Isle more interesting. He just hoped that the guy wasn't going to pull rank on anyone...
---
Yamina waved back at J'kent when he wished her luck, then ran for the clutch. She bowed to the parents and waited. She had just missed the bronze's Impression, but that was fine. Bronzes didn't Impress to women...
She watched the rest of the clutch with excitement. Would one of these eggs hold ther dragon that would choose her? For a moment, the prospect of Impressing a gold left her mind. But it was back in a flash. She vaguely wondered if a gold and brown would make a gold egg...?
Yamina realized that that wasn't the case. If there was a gold egg, it would have a gold sheen to it. And there was no gold hued egg on the sands. She sighed a little, but still stood there. She wouldn't deny a dragonet, even if it wasn't the gold that she wanted so badly.
---
Theody watched happily as the bronze Impressed. It was good to see. Bronzes were gorgeous creatures, and Theody believed them to be more beautiful than even the golds. But she knew, unless it was a wher, that she wouldn't Impress a bronze. Which was okay.
Just as long as she Impressed something...

With most - or all - of the small crowd watching first the Green's awkward Impression and then the hilarious Impression of the dramatic, joking Bronze, no one really noticed the Hatching of the Blue. It was not slow and careful or explosive and loud, his Hatching. It was merely a crack and there he was, sitting among a few larger fragments of his shell. He glared out, disgust coloring his eyes as he watched his brother and sister from behind the two larger eggs that had yet to Hatch. A pansy and a moron; oh, how very not fun. They were just part of this whole, maniacal world in which ntohing was worthwhile or useful or really even good. Ha ha ha. Humph. He didn't plan to move, really. He was fine-ish where he was. He wouldn't have if someone hadn't nudged him from the back and sent him toppling. Picking himself up, he swirled around, angry to find that it was the Gold whom had Clutched his egg weeks ago. He needed to not hide, she said, and he needed to be in the open and away from the unhatched ones. Her chiding tone only made him more angry. He could have spat. Instead of going out to hind his Rider, he sat down and refused to move. He would wait for her to come to him! He must have sat for quite a while (at least that's what it felt like to him) and every second that went by put him in a blacker mood. She was standing there, as if she didn't know who he was! Well? he snapped finally. Are you going to anknowlegde me existence now, Theody? Color: Blue 267d7d Markings: n/a Size (full-grown): 28 ft. Tatsuya knew there were other eggs hatching. He was, though, focused on Chochath. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a teal colored hatchling sitting in its egg. Presumably one of the blue males, although with its almost greenish hue, it might be hard to tell.
Chochath nudged him and he offered the bronze another small piece of meat. "Don't forget to chew," he murmured. They'd warned him young dragons tended to bolt their food. Especially when first hatched.
Chochath was bigger than the green hatchling already...he had seen a substantial size difference between the colors. Bronzes were huge, although the big golds, the largest females, were larger still. And the ones ultimately in charge...dragons, it seemed, were matriarchal.
But he had...dreamed of this bronze dragon from the second he had had the colors explained to him. Dreamed and desired...and Chochath was perfect, with no visible deformities to affect his form. "You are the most handsome thing ever," he informed the bronze. Who stopped chewing for a moment to croon-purr at the compliment from his rider.

Nathan turned as he saw a teal colored dragonet sit down almost defiantly on the sands, looking up at the gold with hatred in it's eyes. He couldn't help but smirk at the hatchling. It was interesting, and he almost hoped that it would choose him. Nathan thought that the two of them might get along quite well.
But it wasn't meant, as the dragonet turned its head to glare at one of the female candidates. Nathan shrugged to himself and turned back to the clutch.
---
Well? Are you going to acknowledge my existance now, Theody?
Theody turned from the handsome bronze to the blue dragonet sitting before the clutch. She looked around, thinking perhaps she had been wrong, but the blue was looking directly at her. Then she smiled, and started forward. "Yes. I'm sorry I didn't see you earlier, Osoth." She said when she reached him.
She bent down and hugged the blue, burying her face in the damp hide of her dragon. Yes, her dragon. Theody grinned, tears in her eyes, and then sat up again. "Let's get you something to eat, alright?" She asked the blue.
---
Yamina turned from the bronze to the blue only after she noticed Theody moving towards it. So, the blue had Impressed to Theody. Yamina smiled slightly. That would be a good match. Theody had been trying for a while to Impress a wher, but she had failed twice. Yamina wanted to hug the girl.
Theody had been standing at the wrong clutches! That was the only problem.
Yamina turned her attention back to the clutch. She wondered what would hatch next.

Slowly, the egg nestled against it's dame's warm hide began to rock. It wasn't frenzied, but it was beginning. The youngling within began to make a cheeping sound, almost inquiringly, to the world outside. He wondered when he would see the others, and when it would see the day. But he knew he would have to wait but a while longer.
A knocking sound could be heard throughout the small Hatching Bowl. One of the remaining eggs, smaller that the one bside it, was rocking ferociously, bucking forward almost a foot every few cycles of rocking back and forth, back and forth. The knocks were in time with the jump forward. It was tipping precariously those last few jumps, until it finally, though not so surprisingly, tipped over completely. Laying on it's heat-hardened side, the egg was still for mere moments before it began to launch itself forway again, though it was much less sure of course and was even less strong. It's progress slowed to inches every leap. It could have gone on for ages, if hairline cracks had not appeared with one of the lunges, wider with the next, bits of the outer layer of shell with the next, and so one. After what seemed an eternity (but was truly only a few minutes) a head appeared rather suddenly. where some shell was but moments earlier. It was a head to color of new leaves after a long winter. The young Green blinked at the sudden, unexpected light and shook her head quickly as if to dispel some inner fog. And just as suddenly the light came to her eyes, she resumes you inner-egg leaps. Before long, her wings and torso was out. They were slim and neat, nicely proportioned. Unfortunately, the same could not be said of her bottom half. Her hips were not big enough for the hole she had already made. She had rolled around as she struggled out of her shell. Now, she was lying spread eagled on the floor, her steadying wings to each side as she sat up and clawed futily at the offending shell and giving the rest of the Sands a beautiful view of her red, sparkly back. It really was a pretty back. She, after several minutes of unsuccessful tries, stopped and looked at Elizabetha, her rainbowed eyes shining brightly. Help? she asked plaintively. It's not working for me.The pale skinned young woman stared, dumbstruck that the legend had chosen to speak to her. She was a gypsy, showy and full of mystery and color. She was a superstitious girl, and she had been chosen! Elizabetha walked slowly, carefully toward the half-hatched young Green, peering with unsure eyes at the red-spangled back and the stuck back-end. "Um...." she said, glancing around. Please hurry, 'BethaMine! I have a big empty middle that needs filling, the Green complained, wiggling a little more. Feeling the hunger through her bond, the girl finally just started hitting the shell and breaking pieces off when it cracked in places. Finally, the dragonet was free and Elizabetha was leading and hugging her as Mystikth bounced around and toward the meat. Another green was...trying to hatch when Tatsuya glanced over again. Poor thing seemed to be stuck halfway out of her egg. He tried not to find that amusing, but it was hard not to. Chochath nudged him with a meat-bloodied muzzle.
"Okay, I know. You come first." How could the young bronze not come anywhere but first, in anyone's estimation. Although, of course, the green was female, and one day she might catch Chochath's attention. For right now, Chochath just wanted his belly filled. Hopefully he'd be too tired them to try any pranks. Tatsuya had a feeling that this baby, this dragon, was going to wear him out many times in the future...and make him enjoy every moment of it.

It was hard to tell when the Brown had hatched. He was close to the same color as the eggs, maybe a little darker. He was only really noticed when flashed of his light pink, heart-shaped marking was flashed as he slowly spun around, watching the going-ons. He cried piteously as he looked around at the assembled Candidates, or what was left of them. He had few choices to pick from. He back up a little, then a little more, as he searched out the one who would help him.
He stopped as he felt something hard and warm bump against him. Turning, fangs bared against the threat, he snarled at the unseen threat - until he saw that it was a violently shaking egg.
Xenith did not have time to stop him for what came next. That or she was seeing things again. Either way, she made no move toward him as he started to paw at the much smaller egg, more forcefully as the moments went on. Finally, he stood up again (he had been sitting down) and sat down again - on top.
A sharp crack resonated through the air. Only then did the Gold begin to snarl , as if understanding the threat to her egg only then. She lunged, gouging a side the Brown hatchling. The Brown made not a noise however, and promtly turned around, and walked away.
