Ayanna watched as dragonet after dragonet Impressed and hatched. First a green, which Impressed to the other female Isle candidate. Ayanna offered her a smile as she and her pretty green walked past her.
Then there was a bronze, who Impressed the almost girly looking boy. She offered him a smile as well. He was lucky to get the bronze, especially considering there was only one other male candidate on the sands...
A blue hatched next, and Impressed to one of the female Rocky candidates. That was something Ayanna was happy for. Rocky had brought their candidates, to make sure that the clutch had enough people. She smiled. Rocky and Isle were more accomodating than the Weyrs on Pern. They tended to hoarde their candidates...
Another green, Impressing to a girl who seemed to be ecstatic at Impressing. From the way she was clothed, Ayanna could tell she was from Earth. The Earthians tended to dress differently than the Pernese. But Ayanna liked the way the Earthians dressed. And the green she had Impressed was very pretty, with such wonderful markings.
A brown then hatched, although no one seemed to notice it. Ayanna wondered what the little thing was doing as he started backing up. He bumped into the only egg remaining, the smallest one that was clutched between Xenith's claws. He pawed at it then, and Ayanna was almost worried that the brown would break the egg before it was ready to hatch.
And Xenith wasn't doing anything...
The brown did end up breaking the egg, and Ayanna had to fight herself from lurching forward. The little brown had broken the egg! And only now did Xenith seem to notice. She growled and batted the little brown away from the crushed egg. Vaguely, as her eyes darted between the brown and the crushed egg, she wondered if the dragonet was okay...
