IC Date: July 19th, 2012 IC Time: 3:30 am The labor had started a full day earlier, and it had started with a bang. It had been a very long, arduous and painful labor. Only the doctor and midwife had been allowed into the room, and Faith had barely permitted them. The pain leaking through the bond from rider to dragon was extreme, and Faith didn't like it one bit. There had been one point when the doctor had told Tamahome, there for his role as Weyrleader, that it was unlikely that Aurora would make it through the labor. Tamahome had begged that they try to help her as much as possible, and then the doctor had returned to the room. Finally, after 29 hours of labor, the weak cries of a baby could be heard. It was another few minutes before anyone came out of the room, and then it was only the doctor. He pulled Tamahome aside to speak to him. "The baby will be fine for the most part. He needs a lot of help and attention, but he will make it. Aurora is another story. The labor was hard on her, and she is exhausted on top of other problems. If she survives, she will be in the Infirmiry for a long time to come." He explained quietly. Tamahome nodded in understanding. The doctor continued to talk. "We need someone who will be able to take care of the child until we know what will happen with Aurora. Do you know anyone in the Weyr that would be able to take care of him for a short amount of time?" Tamahome shook his head. "Not from the top of my head. But I can ask around and see if anyone has experience with infants." He said. The doctor nodded. "That will be fine. The last thing is trivial in comparison, but the boy needs a name. Do you have any idea for what Aurora wanted to name him? And if not, what the father would like to name him?"

In all truth, F'tem and Kenteth had arrived only a few hours after Aurora went into labor. The Bronze that had brung them, a grumpy traditionalist of many Turns, had solidly refused to time it, therefore they pair reached the weyr appoximately twenty-four hours before the boy was born. Being three in the morning, none were around to guide them to thier respected areas. Eventually, they decided, after a while to just sleep in the infirmary, which was the easiest place to find.
And so they discovered the going-ons of Isle. When F'tem awoke awoke nearer to noon, Earthian doctors were changing the Blue's bandages. When the Rider asked where he might find the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader, he was told, quite solemnly, that they were 'indisposed' at the moment. Kenteth informed the annoyed Rider that Aurora was in labor, and it was not going well at that time.
After finding someone to show him to his room, he helped Kenteth find ways around the weyr in which it was not mandated that he fly. Eventually, he managed to get back to Isle and begin his own exploration. It was toward the end that he stumbled across what must have been the Weyrwoman's weyr.
He overheard the quiet conversation, and despite Kenteth's warnings, interupted. "If you need some help, I volunteer," he growled. "I know infants and thier needs, and don't have anything better to do for the moment." And it was true. Growing up in such a large family as his gave him a certain amount of experience. "I'm F'tem, Bluerider of Kenteth. I just got here yesterday."

Tamahome turned to see who had spoken up, and his brows furrowed slightly in confusion. He didn't recognize this rider, even though he vaguely remembered something about a blue pair coming to Isle. Which meant this must be the man, and his blue must be in the Infirmiry. Interesting. Tamahome hadn't been expecting someone with knowledge of infants to be arriving.
He straightened before approaching the man. "You're sure you want to take on the responsibility of the Weyrwoman's son?" He asked, just to make sure.
Not many people wanted to cross Aurora. And she wasn't unheard of. Faith's ability had made sure that the pair of them would be well known about, atleast on Pern. And so far it had proven true. Not many came to Isle or Rocky without knowing that they most likely would run into Aurora and her queenly green Faith...
Tamahome sighed. "As much as I would love to give her the benefit of the doubt, Aurora is not a pleasant woman to deal with. And her green is worse. Taking on her son means she will either owe you a great debt, or give you a great verbal lashing." At the end of that Tamahome managed a small and humorless smile.

Everyone had thier own truths of life. F'tem's truth about the infamous Aurora and Faith was quite simple: he wasn't scared of them. Sure, Faith might cause some damage to Kenteth, but he really doubted the Green could do anything worse than the others had done. And Aurora? A tongue lashing would give the Bluerider a nice reminder of his youth. Honestly.
He could not help but snort in derision. "And I should be afraid of a brat's snarling? If she says something ... nasty ... to me, I'll say something right back! I wouldn't regret it, either." He glanced at the doctor, who stood awkwardly behind the Weyrleader. "The way I see it, no one else is around to help. I might as well. I come from a large family; I helped raise my younger siblings."
Perhaps you shoulf gentle your appearance a little, my friend? It might further your cause just a little... Kenteth murmured from his perch in what must be the Bowl. He knew his Rider, and knew also that one way or another F'tem was going to take care of the boy. He was quite willing to speak to Faith himself, if the need arose.

Tamahome stood silent and surprised for a moment, then burst into laughter. He laughed so hard he doubled over, resting his hands on his knees. A few moments later, when he had managed to stop laughing and catch his breath, he straightened.
"I like your courage, Rider. You can take care of the child." He said, smiling at him. Tamahome reached over and clapped the man on the shoulder. "I rather think I'm going to like you." He said with good humor.
Tamahome turned to the doctor. "Name? Aurora and Z'ran..." Tamahome paused for a moment.
Zever. Jackaloth answered for his rider.
Tamahome smirked, then nodded at the doctor. "Zever sounds like a good name." He said. The doctor nodded and headed back inside.

F'tem watched sourly as the Weyrleader roared with doubled over, laughing. He didn't think he had said anything funny; he was fairly sure he hadn't, actually. Yet the younger man was standing there, acting a fool, as he stood there, the sure face of perfect seriousness. If this was what the leadership of the Weyr was like, he thought, perhaps he should hsve gone to Rocky.
F'tem, Kenteth said disapprovingly. This is our home now, and you will act accordingly and respectfully. You have yet to get to know Tamahome; do not judge him yet. In response, F'tem humphed mentally.
"Perhaps," he growled when Tamahome expressed his intention to 'like' him. The man had a long way to go before he liked him. The Blue prodded him again, his own annoyance abundantly apparent. "I trust that Zever will stay here until it is sure he will live?" he asked, his voice a little less angry.

Tamahome sobered, seeing the man's obvious seriousness. He would keep it in mind that this rider preferred seriousness. But the Weyrleader nodded. "According to what the doctor said, yes, Zever will stay here for a while. When he is healthy enough to leave the Infimiry, I will come find you." He assured F'tem.
Tamahome wondered if they would be able to see the child soon. He wanted to check himself to make sure the child was okay. Not to mention, it was part of his job as Weyrleader. He turned to F'tem. "Would you like to see your charge?" He asked seriously.

F'tem nodded, not surprised. Though he well knew the stories of Earth's medicinal prowess and great knowledge, he well understood that it was all the doctors could do to save a child after such a ordeal. His aunt had lost a newborn daughter in that way. Later, she had died as well.
"I would like that," F'tem replied. His eyes gentled as he thought of the temporarily orphaned boy. No boy should be unloved; father, whoever he was, obviously could care less, and Aurora was going to be fairly incapable for an undetermined ammount pf time.
"I'll get some things into my room for him," he mused. "Would you know where I could get a cradle and other furniture?" He assumed he would have some clue. He had overheard someone - he didn't know who - saying that the junior weyrwoman had recently bor his child.

Tamahome nodded. "I'll send someone into town tonight to get some things." He said.
Tamahome headed over to the desk, speaking quietly with the nurse for a few moments. He was simply asking her if it would be possible for them to see Aurora's son. The nurse seemed upset for a moment, denying Tamahome. But it didn't last long. Tamahome was able to convince her to let them see the child.
After a few moments the nurse told Tamahome the directions. He thanked her with a smile, then waved F'tem over. He led the way down the hall, looking for the glassed off room where the child was. It wasn't long before he found it, and was surprised to see the child within. The only baby in there, since Samira had taken Hiroto home with her, the baby looked so lonely.
He was small, with a headful of tar black hair. While not sleeping, for his dark grey eyes were looking around, Zever was still. Tamahome had thought that all babies cried when they weren't near someone, but this little boy was proving him wrong. Tamahome shook his head.
"So different from Hiroto..." He muttered to himself. He didn't know whether F'tem had heard him or not.

"Thank you," he mumbled as Tamahome strode away toward a nurse. The woman was certainly reluctant to allow them to see the newborn, but at the Weyrleaders insistance she seemed to give way. He motioned to F'tem and led him to what be the nursury.
Through the thinck glass, the two could see the lone child tucked carefully into one of the odd, plastic bin-like cradles. Zever eyes, unfocused as all newborn's eyes were, roamed the room. A thick swatch of black hair already cushioned his head.
F'tem glanced at Tamahome as he muttered something along the lines of him not being like Hiroto. "Your son?" he asked eyes still on the silent child.

Tamahome nodded. "Hiroto is a very loud and exaterrated child. The only time I've ever heard him quiet is when he was sleeping." He explained.
Tamahome watched Zever for a little while. The child only seemed to be reserved, unlike his mother. But still, compared to the only other infant at Isle, it was a disturbing difference. Tamahome was used to the antics of his son. He was not accustomed to a silent child. Then again, perhaps the boy was ill...?
"Does he look like a normal baby to you?" He asked F'tem, looking over at him breifly.

F'tem understood perfectly why Tamahome would be surprised by such a silent newborn. Loud babies were not uncommon in any way, and silent ones were somewhat rare if not sleeping. Or so he had heard. None of his train had ever been silent.
"Seems normal enough. I don't think he'll stay here long. Zever is going to be a healthy boy." While his voice had been cool before, now it was shaded with a modicum of rare warmth. Blunt features somewhat softenned, he leaned a little closer to the glass watching as the child within turned his head.
((I am quickly running out of muse for this thread, now....))
