Aurora waited for the insufferable gold weyrling. She had sent a message to Samira days ago, telling her to be here today. If she was eventually going to take over Isle, then she needed to appear for this lesson...
Faith was napping on the beach, enjoying the feeling of the cool waves on her heated hide. Aurora knew she would fly soon. And when she did, she would make sure that Jackaloth and Tamahome were denied the chance to chase. They deserved that, and so much more, for daring to chase the defective gold...
Aurora was mad as mad could be as she stood there, waiting for Samira.
Tamahome, on the other side of the Weyr pacing along the beach, was waiting patiently for Z'ran. The bronze weyrling was due for his first lesson in leading a Weyr today, and Tamahome hoped he wouldn't be late.
Jackaloth was off somewhere, probably with Xenith. They had been inseperable since the brown had won the flight. Tamahome smiled at the memory. He wished he and Samira had been as inseperable, but Aurora had been pretty determined to keep that from happening. It seemed to Tamahome that she was doing her best to keep the two of them apart.
He would just have to take all of it in stride. Because he would be damned if Aurora ruined this new relationship with Samira...

Samira sighed, knowing that waiting any longer would only excaberate the peevishness that Aurora had felt ever since Xenith's Flight. She had tried to stay away from the Weyrwoman as much as possible lately, trying to give her a chance to cool down; that, however, seemed to be a long ways in the future, if ever. Figures that Sam, the eldest, would fear the younger woman. But she did, and couldn't help that. Faith did not, in any way, help that.
Closing her book, she stood. Her weyr was not far from wher she was supposed to meet the Greenriding Weyrwoman. She scratched at her hair, for once in a ponytail, not let down. She was wearing some jeans, and a thin cami under a thin shirt under a sleeveless thick sweater. And sneakers. You cannot forget the sneakers. Closing the door behind her, she walked, head held high.
"Hello, Aurora," she said, standing a few yards away. She was prepared, and she had no wish to rise to any jibes directed at her. "And before you start off, I am exactly on time; not late, not early."

With a rustle of leathery wings, Uthekielth leapt up from the Feeding Grounds, having just ate his fill. Z'ran was already on his back in his usual place, and the pair took a glide to their meeting with Tamahome.
"If you hadn't gone for that last pheasant, we'd have been on time for our meeting with the Weyrleader!" Z'ran berated. Uthekielth grumbled a lazy reply.
'You mean your meeting with the Weyrleader. I think I'm going to either take a swim or a nap. I've no desire to interact with that blasted Brown of his.'
Z'ran laughed. "You're just jealous because Jackaloth won Xenith's Flight. Tamahome and Jackaloth aren't that bad once you get to know them," he said. And he meant it. During the Flight, while their dragons were fighting for Xenith's attention, he had glared at Tamahome before otherwise ignoring him. "And besides, you need to listen in too. This is for both of us, you know." Uthekielth just snorted testily, leading Z'ran to laugh some more. "Alright, let me down here, Uth. I can see Tamahome."
With a rumble, the massive bronze alighted within easy walking distance to the meeting with the Weyrleader. Once his rider was on the ground, he leapt into the air again, gliding out over the water before folding his wings and diving into the water.
Z'ran walked over to where Tamahome was pacing. "Sorry I'm late, Weyrleader. Uthekielth decided to take his time in the Feeding Grounds, and I'd rather not push him. He is...not having a good day today."

Tamahome turned to Z'ran and smiled, shrugging. "A few minutes isn't anything to be worried about. I trust he ate his fill?" Tamahome asked the weyrling.
---
Aurora scoffed at the weyrling. She thought she was so perfect now, didn't she? Thought she was so special since her queen had chosen Jackaloth... Aurora secretly wished the pesky gold didn't clutch. Perhaps then it would teach Samira and her dragon that they couldn't have everything!
Aurora turned and started to walk. "Keep up. I'm not going to repeat anything." She called back at Samira.
((Sorry for the bad post. My muses aren't happy... ))

"Actually, he ate rather light. I think he's had plans to swim today for a while. I'm sure once he's done in the ocean, he'll fill that cave he calls a belly." With a bit of an embarassed smile, he said, "I'm sure he did it just to make us late and spite Jackaloth, though it seems your Brown is not present."

Sam winced as she saw the look on her Weyrwoman's face: part disbelief, part disgust, part hatred. Jeesh, what a way to get to know people. And it wasn't even her fault Xenith picked Jackaloth!
She followed silently behind Aurora, unconciously bringing her fingernails to the reach of her teeth. "Yes, ma'am," she mumbled, refraining from pointing out that she was no simpleton and there would be no need of repeated prompts.
((Ack, my muse isnt working either!))

Tamahome smiled. "Today's lesson is just for the humans. Next week we will have a lesson with the dragons." He explained. Tamahome continued to look out over the ocean. "Z'ran, tell me what you believe a Weyrleader should behave like." Tamahome asked, looking over his shoulder at the bronzerider.
What Z'ran said next would tell Tamahome exactly what he needed to teach Z'ran. Tamahome knew the bronzerider had some good qualities, especially since his bronze was older than Faith. Z'ran would make a wonderful Weyrleader, given the right amount of time and training.
---
Aurora smiled as she noticed Samira take on a submissive role. That was good. The girl should show her superiors some respect! But she needed to turn her attention to teaching the brat how to lead...
"Samira. What qualities should a Weyrwoman possess in order to keep the Weyr running smoothly?" She growled to the girl.

Z'ran paused to think over his answer to Tamahome's question. "A Weyrleader should put the needs of the Weyr before his own, making sure the Weyr and its inhabitants are taken care of. The safety and continuity of the Weyr should be foremost to the Weyrleader, protecting both from threats. Internal or external," he mused.
With Uthekielth the oldest Bronze in the Weyr, it didn't surprise him that Tamahome was going to tutor him to become Weyrleader after the Brownrider. But with Uthekielth's temperament, he wasn't enturely sure he'd be even a decent Weyrleader...
((Sorry, muse is blah.))

"A Weyrwoman needs to be strong of mind, patient if at all possible, responsible, reliable, understanding, respactable....and not too caught up in herself."
Samira's eyes flicked up as she repaeted what old T'goren, the old Bluerider of had once said when she had asked him what made Lessa and all of the other Ruathan Weyrwomen so great. He had been old then, long since dead now, and hadn't exactly said it that way, but....
She said what she said with no infliction of word or accusatory expressions of voice or face, but her eyes as they bore into the back of Aurora's head was full of resentment and sullen anger. In no way was this idiotic woman responible, patient, understanding, or anything else for that matter. She just wasn't going to say it out loud or voice her opinion.
She glanced above her, eyes going dreamy for a moment as she reached out to Xenith where she lay sunning herself in the cool wind coming in off the sea. She had been doing that often in the days since her Flight, even though her worry about the unclutched eggs was unfounded. The Gold knew how the protect herself.
She shook her head sharply, frowning as Xenith flashed her a mental wink.

Aurora nodded as Samira spoke. She was good. She had named off quite a few attributes a Weyrwoman should have. But if Samira already knew, then why was Aurora being forced to train her...?
Aurora would be having a long talk with Tamahome later. She didn't need to train the brat. She knew the basics. Anything else she would be better off learning on the job...
Aurora sighed. "Very good. Now what is the Weyrwoman's duty within the Weyr?" She asked, more to keep the brat from reading her face than anything else.
---
Tamahome nodded and gave the Bronzerider a smile. "Good." Tamahome paused though. What was Z'ran's bronze's defect again...? "What is Uthekielth's defect?" He asked, looking at Z'ran with furrowed brows.
Tamahome hoped that Z'ran would be able to take the station of Weyrleader from him sometime in the future. Otherwise Tamahome would have to choose another pair to train, and there was no garuntee that he could find a suitable pair to lead...

"He has a problem controlling his anger. I suppose those here on Earth would say he has a severe aggression problem. Our exile to Earth came about because he attacked and severely injured a blue dragon after a failed flight, and then he snapped at R'gul's Hath. We were sent to Earth shortly after that," Z'ran sighed. "Most days, his temper isn't that bad. Except for around flits, but he has yet to hurt one."

"To keep the Weyr running smoothly, to deal with domestic matters that need attention, to make sure that relations with Holders, Crafters, etc remain balanced and good, and to follow up on commands that the weyrleader makes in regards to the leading of the dragons and riders."

Aurora growled to herself. If the girl knew so much, why did she need training! This was a waste of Aurora's time and energy. She could be oiling Faith and the flitters, instead of doing this. Tamahome would pay...
Aurora nodded. "Very good. What do you know of the Earth military's connection with Pern and Isle or Rocky?" Aurora asked. Maybe this she might need to train the brat for. But she still believed Samira would be better off learning it from Faizah. A quick trip to Rocky would relieve a lot of stress from Aurora... Perhaps she could go and see Kain for a little...
---
Tamahome nodded. "Are you against using Earth medicine on your bronze? Because a small tranquilizer might calm him down enough to handle the Weyr." Tamahome suggested.
He could just imagine it now. If the bronze had anger managment problems, then he would not make a likely Weyrleader candidate. The last thing they needed was the bronze to attack another dragon...
Tamahome wasn't sure how to explain that thought to Z'ran though...

Z'ran cocked his head to the side. "No one informed me of such things. There are...temporary cures...for such things? Because the way you word it, it doesn't seem to be permanent," he said.
Then he shrugged. "And it all depends if we can talk Uth into taking this...medicine. But his temper was only so bad the day of the attack on the blue was because of a failed flight. And he feels those are a hit to his ego, and some days he is...prickly about his pride," he added.
He wanted to assure Tamahome that his temper wasn't usually that bad, because he could tell the brownrider wanted him to take over his position as Weyrleader, but he just couldn't think of anything to tell him. Well, he couldn't think of anything that would assuage his concerns over Uthekielth's temper.
