"I'm what?!"
Samira felt her jaw drop as she stared at the young doctor from atop the paper covered table-couch where she had been commanded to sit. What he was telling her would change everything. Everything. She would go from her uneasy truce with Aurora to a raging war as soon as the news got out. And she knew that that wouldn't be long.
Xenith, I suppose you'd better get Jackaloth to get Tamahome here, she told the gold dragon numbly. She stared at the embroidered dragon on her dress, a likeness of Xenith in flight. Her own work.
Already did, Sam. He should be coming. The egg-heavy Queen told her, her comforting thoughts tinged with love and understanding. I told Faith that it would be wise to bring Aurora, as well.
"You did what? the Rider exclaimed aloud, aghast as what she had done. She paled significantly. Recognizing the speech as one to one's Impressed, the doctor quietly excused himself, gently closing the door to the small check-up room.
It would be better to get it over with, she said firmly, with a small growl. You'll have to get it over with sooner or later, so do it sooner.

After Jackaloth's message, Tamahome hurried to the Infirmiry. All Jackaloth had told him was that Samira was there, and it was important that he get there as soon as possible.
Thus, out of breath and scared out of his wits, Tamahome arrived at the Infirmiry just as the doctor left the exam room. Tamahome stopped him, and didn't even need to speak before the doctor pointed to the room and told him Samira was in there. Nodding thankfully, Tamahome entered the room.
Samira was seated in a chair, looking scared and angry all at the same time. His heart clenched painfully. He went to her, kneeling in front of her, and took hold of her hands with his. "What is it? What is wrong? Are you sick?" He asked in a hurry. He could have sworn his heart skipped a beat.
Unbeknowest to Tamahome or Samira, Aurora had entered the room only a moment after the Weyrleader. Faith had told her to come, beckoned politely by Xenith, and Aurora couldn't help but come to see what the problem was. Perhaps something that would take the girl far from Isle? Yes, that would be best...

Samira jumped as the door was flung open, a worried Weyrleader blocking the sight beyond. You mouth popped open, words stopping in her throat as Tamahome rushed forward and started asking whether or noth she was okay, if she was sick, what was going on, etc.
"I'm fine, really," she finally forced out, her voice deadened still with shock at what she had just learned. "I just...just..." she said, hesitating. Finally she just gave up and virtually flew into the man's arms. She squeezed her eyes shut and hugged him fiercely.
Finally, after a few moments, she let go, and looked at him from an arm's length away. She couldn't help but face the doubts that so many did, about whether or not he would pull away now, or if he wanted a child. But the show must go on right.
"I have a surprise for you. I'll give you a hint. It's something very special, and very hard to take care of - or so I heard. Now guess." Her arms were still around his shoulders, her hazel eyes uncertain and tentative as she gazed at him.

Tamahome breathed a sigh of relief when she told him she was okay. In the next moment, however, she was in his arms and hugging him fiercely. He hugged her back, holding her as close as he dared to. Something was bothering her, this much he could tell, and he swore to himself if it was Aurora he would have some very harsh words with her.
Suddenly she sat back again, the hug ended, and she looked terrified. And uncertain. Tamahome wanted to take that look off her face. It broke his heart.
"I have a surprise for you. I'll give you a hint. It's something very special, and very hard to take care of - or so I heard. Now guess." She said with her arms around his shoulders and her hazel eyes uncertain and tentative as she looked at him.
Tamahome felt his heart clench painfully. He had been right. Something was really bothering Samira. And he wanted to fix whatever it was. He opened his mouth to speak, but another voice stopped him before he could get a word out.
"Don't tell me you're pregnant..."
Aurora's voice was pure venomous. The little twit thought she could get away with carrying Tamahome's child? Aurora would show her that the brat didn't posses such audacity...!

The Goldrider's head snapped toward Aurora as she heard the murderously furious voice hiss at her. You could not ignore such a hateful voice in such close quarters as the room they were in. As she caught sight of the Weyrwoman, she paled significally. "Aurora!" she managed to squeak.
Oh, how Sam wished to repute Aurora's accusation. But she couldn't; her father had always preached the neccesity of honesty. Instead, she bit her lip, unconciously inching in such a way that Tamahome was in between the two feuding women.

Tamahome's head snapped to the door as well. He had been around Aurora enough to know that tone meant business, and often unpleasant business. But why would Aurora jump to Samira being pregnant...?
Tamahome noticed Samira not denying it. He looked from Aurora to Samira, noticing that Samira had moved slightly behind him. At least she knew when Aurora was in a bad mood. And she knew that she was safe behind him. But he frowned slightly.
Tamahome moved his attention to Aurora. "Get out..." He growled in a furious voice. She had not been invited in, and she had no place here. Finally, after years, Tamahome's patience had run out.
"Get out, Aurora. Get out now. This is not your business, and this is not your concern..." Tamahome's voice may have held more venom than the green rider's.
Aurora blinked. Had Tamahome really just told her to get out? How dare he?! She was the Weyrwoman! This was her business. This was her concern. And how could Tamahome, her Tama, growl at her with such hatred...?
Tears brimmed, but Aurora wouldn't let them fall. It was all that blasted gold weyrling's fault. Aurora hated her! And just like that, Aurora leaped at Samira.
Tamahome was in between them, and caught Aurora. At the same time, Faith scream of anger could be heard outside as well. Jackaloth's roar was there as well, challenging the green openly. Tamahome grabbed ahold of Aurora and dragged her to the door. With little effort, for he was much stronger than Aurora, he forced her out of the door before closing it on her again. With a quick turn of the lock, Tamahome made sure Aurora wasn't coming back in.
He ran his hands through his hair, looking over at Samira shyly. He was deeply sorry that she had just seen Aurora at her worst. But he was worried about Samira more. She hadn't denied being pregnant, and if she was then Tamahome knew that he was likely the father.
"Are you pregnant, Samira?" He questioned.

No! Xenith roared at much the same time as the Green did. Her usually semi-blank eyes were whirling with anger and hatred as she snarled at Faith, openly challenging her, just as her mate did. Why would they want to hurt her Heart? What had she done to deserve such punishment? You're quarrel is with me, Faith! He caught me, by my choice, not her's!
Samira looked pale and utterly dejected as Tamahome turned back to face her. Her shoulders were slumped and her eyes were sad and focused downward, her usually grinning face empty of the joy in life that had always been there before. Despite everything, she had just cemented the hatred of Aurora against her.
"Are you pregnant, Samira?"
Samira looked up. Was she pregnant. A day ago she would have laughed and said no, not a chance. But now? She no longer had the luxury of an unknowing mind.
"Yes," she whispered. She ferevently wished he wouldn't turn against her for it. Something told her he wouldn't, but who could say for sure? The look on his face and in his eyes should have been enough to assure her, but it wasn't. Tears welled up and slowly course down one smooth cheek as the situation and what it meant finally caught up to her. "I didn't think I was, but I am."

Tamahome nodded to let her know that he had heard her. Then he took a moment to let it register. Samira was pregnant, probably with his child. And now there was no chance on Earth or Pern that Aurora was going to get along with her...
He sighed, then walked back over to Samira. He reached out and gently took her chin, tilting it so that she would look at him. He smiled down at her before he spoke.
"Don't worry about it, Samira. You shouldn't be sad. A baby is a happy thing." He told her. He leaned down and pressed a slight kiss to her forehead. "I'm going to be there for you and the baby the entire way. No matter what it is, you can come to me." He whispered.
Jackaloth roared at Faith again, even though Xenith was taking the blame onto herself. Just like Tamahome had lost patience with Aurora, so Jackaloth had lost his patience with Faith. And Faith roared back at him, even more angrily. But she didn't give a command. It seemed that she just could not form the words. And Jackaloth was glad for that.
