IC Date: February 14, 2013 IC Time: Around 12 noon IC Setting: There's an inch of snow on the ground from the morning's snow shower. But with the sun out, the snow is melting away.
Lesla, Green Houkath, and Green Lovely Lovely's middle was egg heavy and she waddled on the ground as she chose a spot where she would lay her clutch of eggs. She chose a corner of the Hatching Grounds that well away from the entrance and hot enough to scorch the feet of those not used to the heat of the Hatching Sands.
At last, she was satisfied with the spot that she deemed would be hot enough to make sure that her eggs would all hatch when the time comes. Nature took over, and she began laying her eggs. For every egg that she lay, Lovely would bury it with sand, until at last, she lay all five eggs, and there was a small mound of sand where her eggs lay buried and hidden away from potential predators. Her eggs will need to harden in the sand more, until the eggs are ready to hatch. And with the deed over, Lovely lay curled around her small mound of eggs. Despite being a green, she was showing a remarkable motherly trait as she guarded her eggs while she took a light nap.
Not far away, Lesla and Houkath watched as Lovely had clutched her eggs. Lesla's stomach was big with her pregnancy. Lesla was proud of her green flit as she watch Lovely guard over her eggs. Lesla would need to come over here every once in a while, just to make sure that Lovely was eating properly. For now, all seemed well with the flit. And with that, she turned to leave the sleeping green flit alone.
Houkath was instantly by her rider's side to make sure that Hers didn't take any unnecessary slip or tumble. She knew that Hers was "egg-heavy" as well, and she would make sure that no harm come to Hers as they left the Hatching Grounds and back towards their weyr.

IC Date: April 1, 2013 IC Time: Four in the afternoon IC Setting: Sunny day, and still chilly around 40 °F. But it is warm and toasty in the Hatching Sands. Egg Setting:4 2 1 3 5 Egg DescriptionsEgg 1 - The largest egg in the clutch. Mottled like most flitter eggs but, from a distance, the egg looks like a Hedgehog. Status: Still Unhatched Rocking Bonded to: N/A Egg 2 - A medium-sided egg. Has very faint splotches on its shell so that it could be mistaken to be White from afar. Status: Still Unhatched Rocking Bonded to: N/A Egg 3 - The smallest egg. A very average-looking mottled flit egg. Status: Still Unhatched Bonded to: N/A Egg 4 - The second largest egg. For whatever reason, the eggshell has a very shiny mottled surface. It could have been a glass egg for all its shiny surface. Status: Still Unhatched Bonded to: N/A Egg 5 - A small-sized egg. It's a dark-colored egg because of how heavily mottled the eggshell is. Status: Still Unhatched Bonded to: N/A Green LovelyLovely had been a marvel with her mothering instincts despite her color-disadvantage. After all, most folks believed that Greens weren't the best in keeping their clutch of eggs intact. Anyways, maybe it was because Lovely was in a different planet. Whatever the case, Lovely had guarded and protected her small clutch of eggs until all had hardened and now seemed ready to hatch. A couple of eggs were rocking and with that evidence of imminent hatching, Lovely began humming as well as calling out to Hers wordlessly to come to the Hatching Sands. And a few seconds after she started humming, the other flits (Brown Seichou, Bronze Zeus, Brown Dragomir, Green Jade, and Green Xena) that also looked to Hers, were suddenly around her, humming as well. Lesla & Green HoukathLesla felt Lovely's wordless call. Lesla was blessed that she had such deep bonds with her flock of flits. She got up from the bed that she had been resting on. It has been some month's since she was pregnant. And she had a very big belly to show for it. Lesla grunted as she walked, still not used to having a big belly in front of her. She wondered if she'd have time to walk all the way from her weyr to the Hatching Sands. If she decided to use the hallways, she really will be late, but if she used the stairs that have been carved outside, then she probably won't be late. The thing is, she's very much pregnant and going down those steps would be tricky if she can't see the steps in front of her. Houkath had been napping outside, taking advantage of the sun that was still up. She had also felt Lovely's call. And she was excited to see Lovely's clutch hatch. She nudged open the tapestry that closed the weyr off from the outside elements. She saw Hers in the middle of the weyr, with a most peculiar expression. With an excited mind voice, she asked Hers, What are you doing just standing in there in the middle of the room? Lovely's eggs are about to hatch. Houkath said excitedly. With an impatient drawl she added, Come on, we need to get to the Hatching Sands. Houkath didn't know that Hers was having a dilemma on how to get to where she needed to go, in the fastest way possible. Lesla startled when she heard Houkath speaking to her. She had been so engrossed in her dilemma that she hadn't heard the dragon come inside the weyr. "I heard her. But at the moment, I'm having trouble thinking of the best way to get to the Hatching Sands, Houkath-Love." Lesla replied to her beloved Green with a smile on her face. She always smiled in the presence of Houkath. Always marveled at her Green, despite the Green's defect. And besides, Houkath found ways to overcome her problem. Houkath had forgotten that Hers was pregnant in the excitement. She thought of how to get hers down, and decided that they could glide down without harm to Hers. That's easy. We'll glide down. It'll take too long for you to walk down the stairs. And this way, you won't tire yourself walking. Houkath said as she made her way outside and waited for Hers to climb on board. Lesla believed in her dragon and if Houkath said they'll glide down, then Lesla was all for it, unafraid that she'll get into trouble. Getting a jacket, she made sure she was dressed warm before going outside. She'd be too warm when she got to the Hatching Sands, but it was still cold these days, and she didn't want to chance getting sick because she went outside without a jacket on.

Ah...Lovely's eggs are hatching. Skirth commented rather offhandedly, making Liam look up from the pile of rather grungy machine parts he had spread pout on a table in front of him.
"Yes, that's fantastic. Why are you telling me this?" Liam snapped, more irritated by the inability to figure out why his motorcycle was still making that odd noise even after he'd dismantled the engine twice.
Oh, you said you wanted me to tell you. You wanted to be sure Lesla didn't stress herself. The black dragon returned, resting his head back on his forelegs, one eye cracked to watch his rider react to that. (Shh- Skirth might have had a bit of a vindictive side to him.) Or are you going to let an egg-laden female have to worry about her pet all on her own with no help at all?
Liam paused, and very carefully tapped the wrench against his other hand. "You know, someday I'm going to throw something big and heavy at you, and neither of us will be happy. I regret the day I ever taught you about sarcasm."
Skirth chuckled in his dragon way, and Liam swore to himself, flailed, and tried to find a shirt that was't covered in machine oil. "Get up, you useless reptile. Even Spock is making a fuss- come on, you. Take me to the hatching sands?" Even if Liam sounded irritated at his dragon, there was no way of hiding the loving caress he ran over the black creature's head as he pulled on a clean shirt and sent Spock off to the kitchens with a note. "How do you know that, anyway?"
I'm watching Houkath. The dragon answered.
"Oh, and that's not creepy at all."
Now who's being sarcastic...?
Soon Skirth was winging his way over the bowl to the sands, tossing his head in a voiceless greeting to Houkath, eventually circling and waiting for the green to land before landing beside her and letting his rider off.
"Hey, Lesla..." Liam began, as always, losing all ability to form words when confronted with other people. "Your green...right? She's got a clutch..." As he searched for more words, Spock popped back in, the little brown clinging to His' back and butting his head up under the human's chin. Then he chirped at Lesla, crooned, and began to hum quietly for Lovely.
"Oh... " He remembered something. "I...uh. I probably overacted here, but I sent Spock to the kitchens to send someone with some scraps for her eggs... so you wouldn't have to worry about it. Food, I mean." Oh dear. It appeared the man was blushing here. Skirth resisted the urge to laugh at his rider, and just looked elsewhere as if he hadn't noticed.
Ypu're going to be the most awkward father on the face of the planet.
What do you know, dragon? You've never had a clutch.
It's cute.
Shut up.
((I'm guessing Lesla's at the sands already? I will fix this if I've read that wrong! It's 4:30 am, I am derpy.))

((OOC: If nobody else posts aside from red, I'll start hatching eggs and having the flits Impress on my next post.))
Lesla & Green Houkath Lesla had just arrived at the Hatching Sands when Liam arrived. She turned and smiled at him. There was something about him that always made her glad that he was the one who mated with her first. Despite being merged with Houkath's dragon lust during that maiden mating flight, Lesla still was able to enjoy that time when Liam finally took her as Skirth had caught Houkath. And besides, Liam could act so cute whenever he was with Lesla. She said to him, "That's fine. In all my dilemna about getting here, I totally forgot about asking for food at the Kitchens. It's good that you did that for me and I won't have to worry about food for Lovely's hatchlings." As she looked down at Lovely's clutch of eggs two of which were rocking very hard.
Houkath decided to stay near Hers instead of going up on one of the ledges to watch the hatching. With Hers being so pregnant, Houkath wanted to be close in case something happens. She settled herself where she could watch Hers and the entrance of the Hatching Sands. When Skirth and Liam arrived, Houkath was very glad that they had come. With Liam near Hers, she could somewhat relax and worry less about stuff that might happen to Hers. Houkath turned towards Skirth and gave him a caress with her muzzle, as a sign of greeting. Despite the fact that she hasn't had a second flight yet, Houkath still had a liking for the black dragon out of all the dragons in the Weyr. She looked at the small clutch of eggs and waited for them to hatch.
A'ir, Brown-Bronze Rakymath, Blue-White Xenosmayth, Ryoushi, Blue Finder, and others Finder had been nosing around the Hatching Sands when he heard Lovely start humming. He knew what that meant and so, projecting an image of the rocking eggs towards His, he landed near the others to join them in their humming.
A'ir, Rakymath, Xenosmayth, Ryoushi, and the other flits, had been spending some time in the lake. A'ir was napping beside his dragons on the lake shore despite the chilly afternoon. Ryoushi was resting beside A'ir, but he was on guard and was surverying those around him.
A'ir came partly awake when he started dreaming about eggs about to hatch. Since he came from Pern, such a dream brought him totally awake even though he was no longer a Candidate. It has been a Turn... that is, a year and more since he had been priviledged enough to Impress not one but two dragons. He stretched as he looked fondly as his beloved dragons. He noticed Ryoushi beside him, awake and on guard. It was then, that the remnants of the dream finally clicked and with a startled gasp, he exclaimed, "Lovely's eggs are hatching!" At his exclamation, the rest of his flits who had also been napping around him had dispersed in shocked surprise.
Ryoushi had already stood up and was wondering what had made his master suddenly exclaim out of nowhere. He barked a question at A'ir, hoping that his master would tell him what's going on. A'ir turned towards Ryoushi and with a pat on Ryoushi's head, said, "Sorry about that, Ryo. I didn't mean to startle you, but Lovely's eggs are about to hatch. We better get to the Hatching Sands." A'ir have always treated Ryo as if he was another intelligent being, and Ryo was, even if he can't really express himself with words, unlike Rakymath and Xenosmayth.
Rakymath and Xenosmayth had both startled awake when they had heard Theirs exclaim in surprise about Lovely's eggs hatching. They stretched like cats, getting the kinks out of their muscles. Are you hoping to get another flit, A'ir-Mine? Rakymath asked as he waited for His to hop onto his shoulders. They won't be flying, but he could carry His and they could get to the Hatching Sands much faster.
Xenosmayth, more the follower than a leader, didn't mind that Rakymath usually leads the way and is usually the one carrying Theirs. He didn't mind since Rakymath is much more stronger than him and also, he really didn't mind having to follow after Rakymath, instead of leading the way. With a last stretch, he followed after His who had ridden atop Rakymath, with Ryoushi bounding after. He looked around, wondering where the other flits had gone, but shrugged as he followed after the others making their way towards the Hatching Sands.
A'ir climbed on Rakymath as he replied, I'm not really looking forward to getting another flit. Don't you think I have enough with me? A'ir asked as he made sure he was snug on Raky's shoulder. They haven't been doing any flying lessons yet, but Rakymath was big enough to be able to handle his weight. Besides, it's better for Raky to get used to his weight gradually. He'd already decided that he'll take Raky flying against Thread instead of Xeno. But that didn't mean that he'll let Xeno not get used to having a passenger on him as well. It was just that today was Raky's turn to carry him, so that Raky will get used to A'ir weight.
When A'ir and the others reached the Hatching Sands, he saw Lesla and Houkath already there. He also saw that Liam and Skirth arrived just ahead of him. A'ir slid down to the ground and made his way to where Lesla was. She was heavy with child and A'ir was there to help her if she needed it. He greeted her with a smile. He still treated her like a little sister and hoped that Liam wouldn't mind him being close with Lesla. And despite the fact that Liam was there to help Lesla if needed, A'ir grabbed one of the chairs in the Stands as he passed by, and took it to Lesla. He set the chair down and helped Lesla to sit as he said, "You shouldn't be standing on your feet too much." Then he stood beside her with Liam on her other side.
When Rakymath and Xenosmayth saw Houkath settled in the Hatching Sands and decided to also stay in the Hatching Sands near Theirs. But unlike Houkath who remained silent, Rakymath and Xenosmayth began humming to encourage the flit eggs to hatch. The rest of A'ir's flits settled near Lovely and the other flits around the small mound of eggs, and adding their voices to the humming that Lovely and the others were already doing. Ryoushi sat on his haunches beside A'ir as he watched the goings-on around him. This would be his first time being at a flit hatching and he was curious to know what happens.

((Feel free to give Faizah a hatchling if you want.))
Faizah heard the humming, surprised by it, as she dressed Naktor. She didn't recall there being a clutch on the sands. And she knew for a fact that Reyna's didn't have any eggs. So with a frown, she inquired silently to Surth as Naktor amused himself by attempting to pull her fingernails off.
Green Lovely's eggs are hatching. Virika's flit is the sire. Surth told her.
Faizah's frown deepened. She, once again, did not recall the flit clutching. But apparently the green did, and now her eggs were hatching. She wondered if Virika knew about it? Surely the girl would want one of the eggs. They were sired by her brown.
Faizah shrugged to herself. She was the Weyrwoman, and she was expected to make an appearance. So she readied Naktor before heading down to the hatching sands. She wondered how he would react to the heat. Devilish child that he was would probably think it a massive sandbox.
Faizah couldn't help herself from smiling about that. The boy had recently started tottering around, keeping hold of the furniture for balance. At first, Faizah had been worried about it. There wasn't much furniture that wasn't heavy around the Weyr, and Naktor seemed to be a very clumsy baby. But recently he seemed to be getting better at it, wobbling less and less. Of course, that didn't mean Faizah was ready for him to start walking!
She mulled over this for a while, not quite believing that Naktor was almost a year old already. By the time she forced herself to stop thinking about the past year, Faizah found she had reached the hatching sands. Reyna, who had accompanied her, zipped off to sit near Lovely and hum along with the other flits. Surth was on one of the ledges above, where he could watch without getting in the way of Impressions.
Faizah waved to Lesla, Liam and A'ir, who were already here. Then she headed over to the rows of seats, choosing to sit just off the sand. She let Naktor walk around. This was his first time in the sands. Half her attention on the eggs and half her attention on Naktor, Faizah settled back to wait.
---
It wasn't long before Virika arrived. She had been woken by Rannoch, who had somehow known that the eggs he had fathered were about to hatch. He had been a pest since, and Virika was glad that they had finally reached the sands. Her brown flitted off to take a perch next to Lovely, crooning to the green excitedly.
At the same time, Virika was headed for the obviously pregnant Lesla. She wondered if Lesla would allow her to have an egg, or if they were all spoken for already. Either way, Virika was here to watch. She wasn't going to miss this exciting moment. Flit hatchings were always exciting!
"Lesla?" Virika asked hesitantly. She didn't want to disturb the young woman. But she figured she had better ask for an egg before they started hatching. "Are there any available eggs?" She asked quietly.

((Pardon, this is about to be super lame. And yes getting to everything else too.))
Liam looked both pleased and uncomfortable, and just laughed softly. (Social awkwardness ahoy.) "Anything you need, y'know?" He said lightly. Distantly he felt Skirth laughing at him and he bit his tongue to keep from swearing at the dragon aloud. That just seemed uncouth, right? But Skirth got a whole headful of very creatively inappropriate images flooded his way and the black dragon actually had to duck his head and pretend to be inspecting an itchy patch on his foreleg to keep from revealing the deeply amused turquoise in his eyes. And then he was distracted again, nuzzling Houkath back and looking quite pleased with her presence. He did in fact quite like her- he rather liked most, but yes, flight feelings remained, and even then, she was special in his mind. He did in fact have quite the dragon-crush on her.
Liam just raised an eyebrow at the dragon and shook his head.
Distracted for a moment by the arrival of two more dragons, puzzling over the odd feeling he was forgetting something as he tried to remember the names, then remembering belatedly as A'ir dismounted- right, that was the boy who'd double-impressed. Ooh. Must be hard- Liam had enough trouble with Skirth- well. They wouldn't have picked him if he couldn't handle it, right?
The ...uh... other rider, Liam decided, yes, because brown-bronze-blue-white got to be too much- got a grateful (and only a little bit chagrined) look as he offered Lesla the chair, and Liam waved a sketchy 'hello' in the air with one hand.
He smiled at the bright-red-haired woman who came in next, much more familiar with the weyrwoman. Faizah was a welcome sight, and Liam tilted his head slightly at the appearance of her adopted son. He'd never met the boy, but it made him remember something. Something about children, and how cute they were when they were kids, and how massively little he liked them when they were teenagers-
"Liam where the fu-"
Speak of the devil. Liam sighed, mentally tempered himself, and turned around, moving fast enough to the door of the stands that he caught Gideon's swearing mid-word and slapped his hand over the teenager's mouth. Probably startled to poor girl who'd come in before Gideon- Virika, right?
"Say it and I'll beat you." Liam growled, waiting for a nod of response before he let Gideon go. "Good boy. Now go behave yourself if you're going to insist on being here." He snapped, tired of the kid's constant attitude- and having infinitely more important things to think of. He went back to where A'ir and Lesla were, apologizing. "Sorry about him, he- ah. He... just is. Candidates, right?" He hoped that would be all the explanation he needed to give for the rather odd custody situation involved with the boy. "I can have Skirth take him away if you want, but he's harmless."
The teenage candidate just looked disgusted and stalked off to the stands, muttering under his breath the whole time. He'd just wanted to watch, and see what the whole big deal was with these stupid animals. He didn't like dragons, he kept insisting. Especially the stupid browns Liam liked so much. But he was, secretly, just the tiniest bit curious, and if he HAD to be here in the stupid-ass weyr, he may as well see what the whole big deal was about. "Yeah, lady, just ignore me. Your boyfriend is just being a d-" A sharp glare from the tall dragonrider in question shut Gideon up though he managed to make it look, in a very catlike fashion, that he'd meant to do that. "Dumbass." He finished, though he'd had much more creative words in mind. Go back to your regularly-scheduled stupid dragon stuff."
Well, lovely, he'd gotten is bit in, now he just flipped one of the stands chairs backwards and leaned over it, watching the eggs and ignoring pretty much anything else. Especially Skirth watching him carefully.
((I...swear to god I don't know where Gideon came from, but something told me DAMN I need to play that kid more, and thusly, he invaded. Give him a flit if you want, or don't, lol, I don;t care, I just apparently had the need to let him put in an appearance. ))

((I'm going to take this over since Houka has been missing for a while. All eggs are open, so this is going to be chaos. Lol)) No one quite expected what would happen. Well, of course they did since it was a hatching they were attending. But surely the quickness of the first hatching egg caught them by surprise. One of the smallest eggs, only slightly bigger than the smallest egg, rocked once before the shell split open. It revealed a white flitter, small even in comparison with its mother. It had no visible markings, but not many got a chance to see it before it had taken off. The white hatchling ran as quickly as its little white legs could carry it. Its frantic escape attempt ended just as suddenly as it had started. The white looked up at the person who's footwear he had run into bodily. With a chirp and a swirling of eyes, the white had bonded to Gideon and began to climb his pant leg. It was obvious that the white was paniced and hungry. Egg #5 White - f8f8ff No marks Bonded to Gideon Clingy, Needy, Stalwart Protector
