IC Date: Week of April 7th, 2013 IC Time: 3:00 pm [/u][/center] The past weeks had been tough on everyone. Faizah had been worried, mostly, over Reyna's newest clutch. The clutching had been late, and there were few eggs to begin with. Usually Reyna had twenty or more eggs. This clutch numbered only five... Faizah was even more worried when the time came and the eggs did not hatch. Reyna didn't seem worried, however, and continued to care for her eggs. As time went on, Faizah became more and more concerned about the eggs. But finally, Reyna started the humming that signaled the hatching of her eggs. She sent the image of the eggs, which were beginning to rock slightly, to everyone in the Weyr. Then, with a flitter grin, she leaned back to watch over her clutch. Gold Reyna X Bronze Keno1. Surprise - A'gar - Green ? - 235a172. W'yatt - T'riel - Blue ? - 0906e83. R'yew - Bronze ? - 4846074. OPEN - T'riel - Green Chiharu - 31ef065. OPEN - L'iyr - Brown ? - 5d2806

((OOC: Since Faizah isn't at the scene yet, and I didn't want our characters not having the food to feed their newly hatched flits, I had Mira send over a servant or two to bring the bowls of meat to the Hatching Sands.
Oh, and I used the color for Matrith's marking instead of her actual hide color in order for the text to be readable.))
Weyrling R'yew & Green Matrith Matrith had been by the Hatching Sands just taking a peek. She knew that the Weyrwoman's flit Gold Reyna had clutched a small number of eggs. She wondered when those eggs would hatch when she heard Reyna humming and received Reyna's sent message regarding the hatching of her eggs. Since Hers didn't have any flits at all, Matrith decided that they at least needed one or two. After all, she is getting bigger and Hers takes more time to give Matrith a decent bath, or the occasional oiling. If Hers had a flit or two, bath time and grooming won't take too much time especially when it comes to fetching things. So, just in case Hers didn't get Reyna's message, she called Hers down to the Hatching Sands. R'yew-Mine, Reyna's small clutch of eggs are finally hatching. You must come here and see if you can Impress a flit or two. Matrith told R'yew, who had been inside the Weyr having an afternoon snack.
When R'yew heard Matrith tell her about the imminent hatching of Reyna's eggs, R'yew snatch the sandwich that she had been about to eat. She also passed by the kitchen to see if she could get some meat scraps for the newly hatched flits. She didn't want the flits to look too far when they hatch starving of hunger. She had already asked the Weyrwoman if she could have one of the eggs. She was sure that Faizah had numbered the eggs like she had been doing in the past hatchings of Reyna's clutches. She just hoped that she'd get there before her egg hatched without her being there.
As R'yew dashed into the kitchen, she almost ran onto Mira, the Headwoman. Having been raised on Pern, R'yew was one of those folks that instantly respected and somewhat feared Mira. With a small voice, she apologized for almost running into Mira. "Sorry about that Headwoman. I heard from Matrith that Reyna's clutch is about to hatch. So... I was hoping to get meat scraps for the flits." R'yew told Mira.
Headwoman Mira Mira just raised her eyebrows at R'yew after hearing the girl's excuse for almost running into her. Much as she had a motherly attitude most of the time, that behavior goes out the window when confronted with potential chaos and disorder. And one pet peeve of hers was running inside the Halls. Still, she wasn't a cruel person, and finding one of the servants ordered him to get a few bowls and put some meat in them. "Well, try not to run inside the Halls next time. Anyways, you go ahead. You don't want to miss the hatching. I'll have one of the servants bring over bowls of meat scraps as soon as possible." Mira said to R'yew. And with that, Mira saw to it that her order was being done, immediately.
Weyrling R'yew and Green Matrith R'yew nodded at Mira's request and once more apologized for running inside the Halls. With her half eaten sandwich still in her hands, she took Mira's advice... well order really, and went ahead towards the Hatching Sands. When she was far enough away from the Dining Hall and hopefully far enough away from Headwoman Mira, R'yew stopped walking and started running, an activity that she had always loved. She reached the Hatching Sands, not even out of breath. As she entered, she saw that she seemed to be the first person to arrive.
Matrith had waited out by the entrance for Hers. When Hers was the first among the others to arrive, she just sent a satisfied emotion towards her Rider. Matrith walked beside Hers, when they entered the Hatching Sands but left Hers to fly up on one of the ledges, and watched R'yew stop near the place where Reyna was watching over her clutch. Like the flits, Matrith added her voice to the humming that was already going on.
R'yew gave Reyna a quick bow of respect when she had stopped near Reyna's clutch of eggs. She wondered when the Weyrwoman would arrive and if enough people were interested in Impressing one of the flits that will hatch. She also wondered when the bowls of meat will arrive. Before the thought was out of her head, she saw two servants bringing over covered bowls of meat on a tray, over to where she stood near the clutch. The servants left the trays down on the ground away from foot traffic, and left R'yew to go back to their job. She nodded her thanks to the servants and reminded of her half-eaten sandwich, she took a bite out of it as she waited for the others to come. Hopefully soon before one of the eggs decided to hatch out of its egg.

((Meh, I'm just going for it. Please tell me if this is not allowed, and I'll make him just an observer.))
L'iyr was in the library musing over some book or another, mainly avoiding his partners and responsibilities. (Why? Because A'gar had gotten into a row with him the day before over something trivial, which had escalated into their normal shouting match, which had resulted in L'iyr blocking both A'gar and Einherjath from his mind and sulking in the library. Thought he was finding it rather enlightening- there was a lot of information he was finding useful in here.)
So he was visibly shaken when, despite his mental shields being up, an image sprang into his mind from some little gold somewhere of her eggs. Pale blue eyes narrowed in suspicious and then annoyance, but at the same time...
Curiosity got the better of him. With a huff and a catlike, fluid motion, he was up and off the couch, swinging his long jacket back over his shoulders from it';s resting place on the arm of a chair, and he was pacing out to the hatching sands.
He might as well- he didn't have much better to do. Also, he had the sneaking suspicion it would irritate A'gar to no end. Always a plus.
He arrived in the hatching sands by one of the upper entrances, near the higher ends of the stands, and made his way down quietly, taking note of the few in attendance. Two drudges with some food, though they quickly exited as soon as they dropped off the trays- hm. From what he remembered, those were to tempt and feed the little creatures once they hatched. Made sense, really; he remembered Einherjath being starving after the brown had hatched... he also remembered he was still angry with the brown and his partner-rider, and so he glanced at the only other person there.
Something bothered him about her.
He just couldn't quite place it... she seemed familiar, sure, but so did many of the other riders at Rocky- he had a good memory for faces (could have been a nice politician if it hadn't been for his elder brother taking the leadership position in his Hold...)
The gold dragonet on the sands caught his attention for a moment, though, and he watched her a moment. As an afterthought, he waved to her, not quite a greeting or a bow, but an acknowledgement that he was there to observe her clutch. He leaned his elbows on the guard around the stands nearest her, leaning forward to get a better look at the eggs.
And then... he flicked his gaze back to the brunette girl.
"You used to serve the Lord Holder of Ruatha." He said abruptly, but his voice was so soft it was almost hard to tell if he'd intended to be heard at all. And maybe he hadn't- but he'd been the son of a Lord Holder in Ruatha himself- and he had a good memory. However, while he kept watching R;yew impassively, he didn't really appear to have much more to say, and after a second, he went back to watching the rocking eggs.
((Feel free to ignore him, but I figured it said in R'yew's profile that she used to serve the Lord Holder... and Liyr is Holderborn [son of a lesser Lord Holder I guess? Idek how closely we're following book canon or who the LH of Ruatha is in our timeline] and Ruathan. He might remember having seen her... but she can always ignore him completely.))

Faizah finally made it to the hatching grounds, before even one egg cracked. She was just slightly ahead of the servant bringing the meat up. She hurried over to Reyna and the clutch, looking them over. Then she consulted her list, looking between R'yew and L'iyr.
Faizah nodded towards R'yew. "You have egg number three. Its the one to the left. You can pick it up and take it somewhere else in the sands, if you want." She told the weyrling. Then Faizah glanced at L'iyr.
"Are you here just to watch, or did you want an egg?" She asked.
Just at that moment the egg with a red 5 painted on it cracked audibly.

R'yew & Green Matrith R'yew's focus had shifted towards the egg and not focusing on her surroundings, would not have heard anybody else had joined her if not for Matrith informing her about it.
R'yew-Mine, that young man just said that you used to serve a Lord Holder of Ruatha. Matrith told Hers then went back to humming.
R'yew stopped before she took another bite out of her sandwich and turning to the young man answered, "Well, I was a Runner before I was Searched. But I don't think I was ever assigned a message for you. But I think I have seen you from afar even if we were never formally introduced." with a smile and then a shrug at what was the past. After the pause, she transferred her sandwich to her left hand, and making sure her right hand was clean of crumbs, stretched it out to the lad for a handshake and said, "I'm Weyrling R'yew of Green Matrith."
As she waited for the young man's reply, Faizah arrived. She informed R'yew that she had egg number 3. R'yew said, "Thanks Weyrwoman." as she hoped that the egg won't hatch until she took hold of it. She dearly wanted to take up the egg, but her left hand was holding her sandwich and she was waiting for the young man to shake her right hand. It would be so, rude to just up and take her hand away without giving him the chance to shake her hand.
Matrith noticed that Hers seemed to be having conflicting emotions. She paused from humming and asked, What's the matter Mine? with a concerned tone.
R'yew turned her head slightly in order to look at Matrith while still being able to look at the young man and answered, "Nothing's wrong Matrith." with a fond smile on her face. Inwardly, she calmed her mind so that it won't affect Matrith.
Upon hearing that Hers was okay. Matrith's attention went back to the eggs and was excited when one of the eggs finally cracked. Look, Mine! One of the eggs has cracked. Ooo, I wonder what color will emerge. Matrith announced excitedly, not caring if the other people heard her or not. If she could have wagged her tail like an excited dog, Matrith would be seen doing such a thing right now.

L'iyr glanced at Faizah under half-lidded eyes, appearing for all the world deeply unamused. "Why, was there an option for one?" He said. Somehow he managed to be disgustingly sarcastic about the statement, despite genuinely asking a question. Skills, the man had skills. (Skills used to irritate people, mainly.)
Then again- "I might be interested, in fact, if you'll allow me the privilege." He said suddenly, glancing at the eggs. Not that he was overly fond of the creatures, but he knew they were useful, and at this point, he also knew A'gar found them to be rather irritating (always a bonus) and third- L'iyr knew if he did in fact convince one to bond to him it would be something solely his- he hoped.
"Yes, actually, Weyrwoman. If I could...?" Still sounded borderline frosty, but there was civility in his tone now.
And then- the girl. He shrugged faintly, and nodded. "I understand. I cannot say I was ever important enough to be remembered, but my father impressed upon my brothers and I the importance of remembering faces." He gave a weak smile. "He wanted us to be politicians, I think." He debated a moment, examining the girl- R'yew- and her outstretched hand. After just longer than necessary he took her hand, a careful, quick motion that indicated his displeasure with the very action. (Not with her, simply with handshaking.) "L'iyr." He introduced himself simply. He was still wary of associating himself with Einherjath (though he loved the dragon more deeply than anything else in the world) and A'gar. He was always afraid of the judgement he'd been raised around- even if it was more imagined than he ever thought. Still- he was self-conscious.

Faizah shot L'iyr a small glare before she nodded to the eggs. "You have a choice of egg four or five. Has anyone seen W'yatt?" She asked, looking around her.
The servants shook their heads, setting down the bowls of meat before quickly leaving. She nodded to them before they left completely, thanking them silently for bringing the meat for the hatchlings. Then she turned her attention back to the clutch.
The number five egg had cracked more. And now the number two egg was showing signs of hatching. Other than that there was nothing else to comment on, and none of the flitters within had broke the shell. Faizah kept a close eye on them.

T'riel, Bronze Heironeoth, & Brown Shadow Shadow had been exploring the Hatching Sands hoping to take a sneak peek at the eggs when he heard the humming issue from the gold flit, Reyna. He wanted to take a closer look and so, he flew closer as he started humming to welcome the flits that will emerge from their eggs soon. In addition, he sent an image of a cracked egg to His and hoped that His would decide to come investigate.
T'riel was actually just taking a walk around the lake near the Weyr when he received the image from Shadow. He looked over at Heironeoth, who was just napping and taking advantage of the sun that was still up in the sky.
Heironeoth who was deeply bonded with His, had also seen the image sent to His by Shadow. Before Heironeoth could ask His whether he wanted to go or not, His started talking.
"Hmm, Shadow just told me there's a Hatching going on. Since, you're not humming, I imagine it's a flit hatching. So, you want to go watch?" T'riel asked Heironeoth. He wasn't really thinking about Impressing another flit but it has been a while since he attended a hatching whether it be for a flit hatching or a dragon hatching.
Heironeoth got up and stretched. He didn't even have to think about it. He wanted His to have more flits who will help His with bathing and grooming. Besides, he missed those times when there were flocks of wild flits that helped him with his bathing. Yes, we shall go watch. And maybe, you'll be lucky and Impress another flit.
T'riel wasn't surprised when Heironeoth said he hoped that T'riel would Impress another flit. He climbed up Heironeoth and strapped himself securely. When he was ready, he told Heironeoth to launch.
Heironeoth easily climbed the sky and soon, they were spiraling down near the entrance of the Hatching Sands. He let His down and then flew to land on one of the ledges overlooking the Hatching Sands. Once he settled himself, he joined his voice to the humming that was already well under way.
Once on the ground, T'riel made his way to where he saw Shadow. As T'riel arrived near the group, he saw that two of the eggs, #2 and #5, already had cracks on them. He nodded a greeting at the others, and said to the Weyrwoman, "Greetings Weyrwoman. I'm here to watch. But Heironeoth over there hopes that I might be able to Impress a flit if there's an egg that hasn't been spoken for yet." T'riel has been at Rocky Weyr long enough to know of Faizah's odd habit of numbering the eggs and having folks reserve it for themselves.
R'yew & Green Matrith When she felt the man shake her hand, R'yew didn't even notice that the other seemed to not like having to shake her hand. After all, her attention had swung over to the egg that had hatched and then she quickly looked at the egg reserved for her and was relieved that it hadn't cracked yet. She did hear him name himself as L'iyr. "Pleasure to meet you." R'yew said absentmindedly with a smile on her face, her attention now focused on her reserved egg. Turning so that she could crouch down, she nodded a greeting at the gold, Reyna, and proceeded to gently take the #3 egg into her right hand, the sandwich still in her left hand. Once she had the egg cradled gently within her palm, she moved a little way to give others room and gently set down the egg on the sand in front of her. Noticing the bowls of meat, she snagged one for herself and waited for her egg to hatch.
Matrith who was watching the eggs saw another egg crack. Oh, look Mine. Another egg has cracked. Ooo, I wonder which egg will hatch first. Matrith said to Hers very excitedly. She also once more joined her voice in the humming being done by the two flits who were flocked around the small mound of eggs.
R'yew looked at the other eggs and sure enough, she saw that another egg has cracked. But since it wasn't the egg she was really interested in. She didn't voice out a reply and once more looked down at the egg in front of her. She had stood up, since her feet were getting hot, and hopped from one foot to the other. It's what always happened inside Hatching Sands unless one had a well insulated pair of boots to keep the heat from burning one's feet.

L'iyr titled his head at R'yew, seeming somewhat surprised by the response. "It's rare people say that to me." He said, with a smirk. "At least, after they've had a conversation with me. How did A 'gar put it...? Oh, yes. I'm -ahem-" He made little quotation marks in the air with his fingers. " 'Abrasive, annoying, irritating, and generally a jackass.' " Still, he dropped the train of thought as a bronze flew in, his attention caught for a few moments, then realizing the greenrider was more occupied by her egg.
He considered the whole situation, listening half-heartedly to the bronzerider request an egg. Oh- well he should decide then, if he was really going to do this.
"Weyrwoman, if you don't mind, I'll go for number five, then. I do favor a creature that wishes to expedite the experience..." He said, nodding at the shaking, cracking egg.

Faizah smiled as T'riel and his bronze appeared. She hadn't expected many people to show up, what with the clutch being so small. But she was glad that the bronze-rider had come. Even if he might not want another flit. His dragon sure seemed to want the man to Impress once more.
Faizah turned when L'iyr started speaking to her, however. He said he would take the egg numbered five. She nodded at him, then jotted down the fact that he had taken it. It still didn't mean that the hatchling within the egg would choose L'iyr...
"Go ahead and take it, L'iyr." She said, then turned back to T'riel. She smiled slightly. "If you would like to have a go at a flit, you can take egg number four. It's unspoken for." She said calmly.
At that very moment another egg began to crack. The one labeled with a red 4 began to crack, a large crack appearing across the middle of the egg from side to side. Faizah looked over, knowing it wouldn't take long for that egg to hatch. It might even hatch first...

T'riel T'riel nodded and said, "Thank you, Weyrwoman." as he bent down to take the egg. But before he could do so, the egg with the #4 on it had began to crack. T'riel got nervous and just slided the cracked #4 egg away from the other eggs so that the flit inside can focus on T'riel when it hatches. Noticing the bowls of meat, he snatched one for himself. Having had Shadow, he knew that flits hatched just as hungry as dragons do. And it was the person who first feeds a flit that manages to Impress it, unlike dragons who seems to have a particular person that they want to Impress come hatching time.

L'iyr nodded and stepped down onto the sands to pick up the rattling egg. Which... was actually really strange. He made a face, and rather gingerly held the egg cupped in his hands. "Ah...thank you, Weyrwoman." He said, once more. Now he really was being civil (if not overtly friendly.) He knew well enough to pay his respects, even if he would have enjoyed needling A'gar's old friend further. But he wasn't to do so when he wanted something from her, and certainly not when she was being generous.
(What? He knew he was irritating.)
He focused on the egg for a moment, not entirely certain how this was supposed to happen but appropriating a bowl of meat anyway. Couldn't be that different from a dragon, could it? For once, his attention was almost totally on the egg, and not on some scheme, not bent on annoying someone, not on an inner monologue to himself... he was just deeply curious about the egg.
And then he felt a rather odd 'echo' in the back of his mind... oh. Damn. L'iyr looked up exactly at the time Einherjath dropped into the sands, perching on a ledge just long enough to let a tall blonde man off before both very loudly (if mentally) shouted at him.
L'IYR! MINE! YOU GIANT IDIOT!
L'iyr flinched- those two were going to give him a migraine- and glowered at A'gar and their dragon. "Hush, you two, or you'll insult- ah..." He glanced at the gold flit, and shrugged, not being able to remember her name. "The Queen."
A'gar snarled, seething at his partner, but shut up and made his way to the stands to watch. Faizah got a cheerful grin before he went right back to cursing mentally at L'iyr. Einherjath just settled somewhere between the green and bronze already present on the ledges and kept an eagle eye on the rider of his who had been hiding from them for the past day.

Faizah looked over at L'iyr, wondering if he even knew what to do at a flit hatching. But since he hadn't asked, she guessed she would let him attempt to figure it out on his own. He was an intelligent person, surely he could figure it out. She smiled back at A'gar as he and his brown appeared. Then she focused on the clutch, noticing an egg finally hatching. The one labeled 4, which was held by T'riel, suddenly hatched. The shell seemed to just peel off the flitter inside. There stood a little green flit. She preened, glancing up at the man holding her. Egg #4 Green - 31ef06 No markings Bonded to T'riel Respectful

T'riel & Bronze Heironeoth T'riel was entranced as the egg hatched right in front of him. It still seemed all new to him, as T'riel unconsciously reached out his right hand to the bowl of meat to snatch a tidbit to feet the green flit that has hatched. T'riel smiled fondly at the preening green as he gently scooped her out of her shell and fed her. He could already distantly feel her hunger and even though she wasn't crying for food yet, he knew that she was starving. "There, there, little one." T'riel crooned softly as he let the green flit feed. "No rush, there's plenty where that came from." he added as he watched her suddenly gobble up the offered tidbit of meat. As the green voraciously fed on the offered tidbits of meat, T'riel contemplated on what to call his new friend. She was a solid colored green flit, with no visible markings on her. Still, her green color reminded him of spring, and having been on earth long enough to access their computers, T'riel came up with a Japanese name. "Chiharu." T'riel softly said to the still feeding green flit. "Your name will be Chiharu." T'riel declared once the flit finally stopped demanding for food.
Chiharu sighed in contentment as she curled around herself and promptly fell asleep. She was full, her stomach distended from the amount of good that she ate, and she was happy to be held by Hers. As she slept, she purred like a cat, content and happiness evident in her sleepy posture, withing T'riel's hand.
T'riel gave his new flit a gentle caress as he He carefully transferred her to the crook of his elbow where Chiharu will have more room. And then, T'riel carefully stood up and looked around. It seemed that his Chiharu was the first egg to hatch and there seemed to be another person who had arrived while he wasn't looking. He stepped a little ways from the small clutch of eggs, letting the others have a go at the yet unclaimed and unhatched eggs.
Heironeoth was glad that His had managed to acquire another flit. And seeing it was a green, it would be the perfect mate for Shadow when the green matures. And hopefully, some time in the future, His will have a huge flock of flits. What did you name her? Heironeoth asked His as he looked down to where His was standing with a sleeping green flit.
T'riel looked up at his dragon with a fond smile as he silently replied, I named her, Chiharu.
Hmm, Chiharu... isn't the name a tad long for a flit? Heironeoth asked His.
I don't think so. And besides, it was the only nice name that I could think of. I didn't want to name her Greenie or Spring or even Grass. At least, Chiharu sounds nice. And it also has a nice meaning. Her name is Japanese which means, A Thousand Springs. T'riel commented as he looked down lovingly at the sleeping green flit within his arms.
Heironeoth nodded in agreement as he heard the other names that His had thought of before coming up with the name Chiharu. He was in accord with His that the name Chiharu was better sounding than the others that His had come up with it. Well, if you put it that way, Mine. Then yes, Chiharu is the better sounding name than the others that you thought of. Heironeoth commented. And with that, he once more focused on humming, as he acknowledged the brown who had joined him and other green on the ledge.
R'yew & Green Matrith Being privy to what was going on around Hers, Matrith excitedly announced that one of the eggs had hatched a green. One of the eggs has hatched, R'yew-Mine. It's a green, and she seems to have Impressed that young man over there. Matrith told Hers as she sent the image of the young man with the green flit now in his arms.
R'yew quickly looked up to see and saw the man that Matrith pointed out to her. She didn't know him, personally, but she was happy that he had managed to impress a flit. She idly wondered when hers will hatch. Figures... I'm the first to arrive and get my egg. What's the chance of mine being the last to hatch. R'yew silently commented to herself as she once more focused on her egg. She was crouched on the ground, with the #2 egg in the hot sand in front of her.

L'iyr seemed ...strangely entranced by the hatching eggs. (There had been a reason, after all, that he had initially made his way to the hatching where he'd found Einherjath...)
While he didn't initially seem too enthused, there was something about the look in his eyes, the very, very slight smile on his face that had even A;gar sighing resignedly and committing himself to being here, since clearly, L'iyr was not moving.
Einherjath, though still somewhat irritated by his dark-haired rider, seemed to snort in the exact same manner, and nodded at the bronze. Yours impressed one, did he? Congratulations, ....you. He was trying to be polite, make conversation, but he realized he didn't know the bronze's name. Didn't particularly care, but while he had to be here, he was going to play nice.
L'iyr ignored pretty much everyone around him for the time, pausing only to smile at the bronzerider and his tiny green (yes, lo and behold, a genuine smile) before regarding the egg in the palms of his hands once more. "Anything on yours, there, love?" He asked R'yew softly.

Faizah stood back, watching the hatching carefully. As always she had left the first egg to chance. Whether the little creature would Impress or not was up to it. But all the other eggs were claimed, and she could relax a little bit.
She smiled as the green hatched. That was good. The flit certainly looked healthy from her place. She didn't approach, instead letting T'riel and his green get to know each other before bugging them.
In the meantime, the egg being held by L'iyr cracked a bit more. It might very well be the next egg to hatch...

T'riel & Bronze Heironeoth T'riel scooted a little more away from the small mound of eggs. He was careful not to juggle his precious new flit that was now sleeping peacefully within his arm. He looked at the others who had an egg and wondered which one would hatch next. But noticing the cracked egg, T'riel thought that the other man, might get to have his flit egg hatch before the girl who was crouching in the sand with a flit egg in front of her.
Heironeoth looked over at the brown. He didn't know him yet, and Heironeoth was not one to snub others. With a happy tone in his voice he replied, Yes, T'riel-Mine did. After a pause, he added, I'm Heironeoth by the way, you? Is Yours also hoping to Impress a flit? Heironeoth looked back at the humans trying to get a better look at the rider that had gotten off from the Brown's back earlier.
R'yew & Green Matrith R'yew looked up L'iyr as she heard him ask about her flit egg. With a sigh she answered, "Not even a wiggle yet." Then noticing the crack on L'iyr's flit egg, she added, "But yours seem to be hatching soon." as she nodded her head towards the egg in L'iyr's hands. Since it was getting hot just crouching there in the sand, R'yew finished her sandwich quickly and then carefully lifted the #2 egg into her hands. Then, R'yew carefully stood up and started mincing, her feet were getting hot from the heat in the sands. R'yew wished that there was someone who could make shoes that would prevent heat from getting to her feet. She looked around and noticed that another person had arrived. She didn't know him, and decided to let him be. If he wanted to talk to her, then he can introduce himself then.

The brown dragon grunted, and flashed a dragon-y grin in the bronze's direction. Einherjath. The brown supplied, with all the somehow arrogant-yet-completely-charming attitude he seemed to steal from L'iyr from time to time. And no, actually, originally I think he was avoiding me and mine-A'gar, but he does seem to have changed his plans, doesn't he? he commented.
A'gar giggled slightly as he -and L'iyr- were privy to that exchange. L'iyr just huffed slightly and ignored them again. (He was getting very good at that.) "Yes, the little he-or-she does seem to be making a valiant effort, doesn't he-or-she?" He remarked, turning the egg gently in his hands. It wiggled very strangely under his fingers, and he was finding it to be quite the odd experience.
"Curious."

While everyone thought the egg L'iyr held would hatch next, another egg had something else in mind. The egg held within R'yew's hands hatched, quite suddenly. It didn't hatch in any particular manner, but it hatched none-the-less. And there, in the green weyrling's hands, was a small bronze flit. Egg #3 Bronze - 484607 No Marks Bonded to R'yew Hostile

T'riel & Bronze Heironeoth T'riel had scooted somewhat closer to the only other lass present in the Hatching Sands. In doing so, he had heard the tail end of her conversation, with the other young man that had a cracked egg within his hands. He watched as the young girl carefully took the egg within her hands and then just as carefully stood up and started hopping from one foot to the next. He inwardly smiled as he remembered his Candidate days when he himself had been hopping from foot to foot as he stood in the Hatching Grounds back in Pern. The heat coming from the Hatching Sands in Rocky Weyr were comparable to that of the Hatching Grounds in Benden Weyr, so he wasn't surprised when folks will start mincing to keep their toes from burning from the heat of the Hatching Sands. He would have commented but then, he saw the egg within the girl's hand to just suddenly hatch and revealed a bronze flitter. He decided to stay where he was to leave the girl room to Impress the flit.
If a dragon could have the ability to express their confusion in their faces, Heironeoth would currently be having such a face. He got confused trying to follow Eiherjath's comment. Wait, I'm confused. I see that Yours is just there to watch. Heironeoth stated thinking of the rider that had hopped off Eiharjath's back. Why to do you say that Yours seems to want to Impress a flit? Heironeoth asked not knowing that Eiherjath was talking of a different person, and not the one that had just gotten off his back.
R'yew & Green Matrith R'yew nodded in agreement at L'iyr's comment regarding the flit egg within his cupped hands. R'yew looked down to her own flit egg and before she could say anything else, the egg just suddenly hatched to reveal a bronze flit in her cupped hands. In the surprise turn of events, R'yew quite forgot that the flit would be hatching hungry.
The bronze flit shook himself to get rid of the clinging egg goo on his body. His eyes were whirling red as hunger was making him quite terribly irritated at everyone & everything. He looked around and then up at the one who was looking down at him. His stomach grumbled loudly and he hissed in anger that he wasn't being fed already. If he wasn't fed soon, he'll just take care of feeding himself.
Matrith was ecstatic when she saw Hers' egg hatch. Excitedly she said, Oh Mine! Yours hatched! And it's a bronze! as she looked at Hers standing dumbfounded in the sands. Since Hers wasn't moving to feed the flit, Matrith commented, You better feed him before he takes off, R'yew-Mine.
R'yew had been shocked when her flit egg just suddenly up and hatched. It was a very good thing that Matrith was looking out for her, or she might have lost the opportunity to Impress the flit. With a mental shake, she silently berated herself for her behavior as she hastily grabbed a few chunks of meat from the bowl she had snagged to feed the very hungry bronze flit in her hands. She presented the bite-sized tidbit of meat to the bronze as she talked softly to him. "Here, now little one. I'm very sorry that I didn't immediately feed you. I was surprised because your egg just suddenly hatched without any warning." R'yew explained to the bronze flit.
The bronze flit had almost decided to leap out R'yew's hands when his nose caught the scent of food. All feelings of being slighted was forgotten as he began to eat and stuff himself silly. As he stopped being so hungry, his demeanor became less hostile, less irritated at his surroundings. When he was finally full and stuffed to bursting, he was now looking up at His with such love in his rainbow swirling eyes.
R'yew was glad that she had been able to feed the flit before he had flown off. She was also glad that the tidbits of meat where so small that they could be safely gobbled up without the fear of flits choking on them should the flit forget to chew their food. As she fed the bronze, R'yew kept projecting her love for the flit, and that if the flit chose, he'll have a warm and safe place to live. She also projected that she could protect the flit from anything that might wish to harm him. Her effort to feed and persuade the bronze flit paid off as the flit now looked up at her with love in his rainbow swirling eyes. Now that the flit seems to have Impressed on her, R'yew needed a name for him. She gently transferred the flit to the crook of her arm. As the flit settled himself, he gave a huge yawn before sleep overtook him. R'yew smiled tenderly at the now sleeping flit. Giving him a gently caress on his little wedge-shaped head, she softly said, "You need a name. But I wonder what kind of name you'll like." Looking up at her beloved green dragon, she asked, So Love, do you have any name suggestions? Then, she looked back at L'iyr's cracked but yet unhatched flit egg. With a shrug of her shoulders, she said, "I didn't think mine would hatch before yours. I guess he was more impatient." as she once again looked down lovingly at her sleeping bronze flit.
When Matrith heard Hers' question, she started to think of names that Hers could use to call the Bronze flit. But after a minute or so of contemplation, she replied, I really think you should be the one to think of a name for him. There's just so many names that you could choose from. After a pause, she added, You could always name him later. It doesn't have to be now, does it? as Matrith looked down at Hers with the sleeping bronze flit.

The egg labeled with the number 2 hatched then. It was supposed to be left for someone, but they hadn't appeared yet. And now the egg had hatched, and was available to Impress any human that fed it. But first, it had to get out of the shell fragments. The little blue had taken a step forward, curious about the world around it, and ended up stepping on something sharp. With a shriek of pain and surprise, the blue ran blindly. That was, until he ran right into someone's leg. The blue was knocked back for a moment, then looked up at the person he had hit. With a pitiful chirp, the blue practically asked for help from the man above him. Egg #2 Blue - 0906E8 No marks Bonded to T'riel Devoted

L'iyr just laughed softly. "So it would seem. Well. Perhaps patience is a virtue, no?" He said, contemplating the egg in his hands curiously. It had begun so valiantly, shaking and twitching and rocking with such purpose, and now...? Well. He simply hoped the creature within wasn't hurt.
"I suppose I can't complain though, can I? I'm grateful nonetheless." He mused, more to himself. He actually didn't realize he'd said that out loud until he felt/heard Einherjath laughing at him, silently praising him on such an uncharacteristic outward expression of manners. He privately told the dragon something very rude, so the brown tossed his head back and did the draconic equivalent of rolling his eyes.
What was that, bronze? Oh, mine? Yes, mine A'gar is only here to watch. Mine L'iyr is here to impress. Not sure why, I'm more than enough for him, but I suppose it can't hurt to let him do his own thing, right? He chuckled softly, and glanced back at the bronze. Both are mine. It is as simple as that. You do not need to be confused. The brown snorted, and eyed T'riel as the blue pawed at his leg. And it looks like there's another addition to your family...

Finally the last two eggs hatched in unison. The egg with the red number 1 on it revealed another green flitter. She shook the egg goo off her hide, flared her wings slightly and flapped them gently to dry them off. At the same time she was doing this, she was looking around the sands. She noticed that she was standing very close to another flit, much bigger than her and gold in color. She chirped a irritated greeting to the Queen, who chirped back at her. The green huffed, almost like a child's scoff, before she pranced forward. There was a bowl of meat - which smelled wonderful! - at the foot of some bipedal creature she didn't much care about. The green helped herself to the meat in the bowl, and after a few moments of quiet eating, looked up at the man above her when he started muttering. Her eyes swirled with rainbows as she trilled at A'gar. Egg #1 Green - 235a17 No marks Bonded to A'gar Rebellious The egg sitting in L'iyr's hands finally split open to reveal a brown firelizard. He was a bland looking thing, but almost perfectly formed already. Reyna, noticing her brown son, trilled and pruumed with pride. He was a fine flitter indeed! The brown ignored his mother, turning in circles on L'iyr's hands like a dog chasing its tail. He could smell something absolutely mouthwatering, but he couldn't find it! With an aggravated chirp, he turned to look at L'iyr. His eyes swirled with rainbows and the bond was made. The brown then very determinedly impressed upon L'iyr just how hungry he was.
