Perhaps She Needs A Therapist... (Lanrie)

Faizah paused in the hallway only just outside the Infirmiry. She had just received her first depo shot, which is what her specialist doctors had suggested she try to stop her bleeding and, ultimately, all of her transfusions.

Essentially it was a form of birth control. But it could also be used to stop bleeding caused from a hormonal imbalance, such in Faizah's case. While her doctors said she would only need to be on the shot for a few months, Faizah knew it would be longer than that.

Faizah knew she would be on this form of treatment for the rest of her life...

Which meant that she couldn't have kids. Just another dream that had been taken from her by her mother's irresponsibility. Faizah leaned against the wall, her knees weak as her stomach churned and tears brimmed her green eyes. She knew she should find somewhere else to have her meltdown, but she couldn't find the strength to move from that spot.

She would never be a mother...

That thought kept repeating itself in her mind. Mocking her, it seemed. And why was she the only one of the Pandoras to get this genetic disease? Her sisters had never had a problem, her mother nor aunts had ever had a problem... So why did Faizah get it?

Faizah felt cheated out of the only thing she had ever really wanted in her life. Children. She would never become a mother. She would never hold a baby that she had carried for nine months in her womb. She would never get the chance to look down at a child that was hers, and only hers...

Faizah covered her mouth as she felt a sob escape. Tears began to roll down her cheeks as she slid down the wall until she was sitting. She pulled her knees to her chest and rested her head on them.

She just needed a moment to collect herself. She couldn't have a break down here. If one of the Weyr residents saw her like this, she would never live it down...

Lanrie wasn't entirely sure how she ended up bloodying her knee up this badly. Well, actually, she kind of did. Just for today she'd decided to do something completely crazy, and leapt off Snith's back to the ledge from a foot away. Unlike that night she'd been rescued, her leap wasn't entirely successful this time. To snith's consternation - she'd not said too much against Larie's plan - Lanrie scratched her knee against the jagged edge of the ledge.

So Snith had forced Lanrie ot go to the infirmary. Lanrie hadn't put up much of a fight - it hurt really bad. It wasn't a terribly deep gash or anything, but it was painful. Now she was limping down a hallway towards the infirmary when Lanrie heard something. She could have sworn she heard a....

A sob? Who would be crying? Lanrie limped around the corner and straightened up to see a surprising sight.

"Weyrwoman?" She asked softly, questioningly. She might've had a problem with authority but she was a caring girl; the sight of a normally strong person crying was....

It made her leave the authority matter aside for now. "Are you.. are you alright?" She continued.

Faizah didn't look up. Her face was burning from both holding in her emotions and now from embarrassment. She had been found, crying on the floor like a child. How did she deal with this...?

"I'm fine. Just a headache." She said. Maybe that would appease Lanrie enough that she would head on to wherever she was headed.

Faizah should have known it wasn't going to work...

Lanrie blinked, now concerned for Faizah more than just curious.

"That doesn't look or sound like a headache." She said softly, coming closer and sitting down tentatively next to the weyrwoman, her knees up and arms propped on them. She wasn't so good with sympathy but if she could just figure out what was wrong, maybe she could give sympathy a whirl.

"I'm sure you should tell someone what's bothering you. Might's well be me, since I've got nothing better to do." She hoped that last bit didnt' sound as bad to faizah as it did to her.

your knee, mine? Snith pointed out. Lanrie silently hushed the green.

yeah, yeah, but she looks upset.

"I mean... what's wrong?"

Faizah laughed a little bitterly, still hiding her face. She didn't want anyone to see she had been crying. Vaguely she realized her arm was starting to hurt, no doubt from both the shot and being held up on her legs.

"Nothing that can be changed." Faizah muttered.

She could have smacked herself on the head. Her tone of voice was not only bitter, but angry. She just hoped Lanrie wouldn't take it that Faizah was mad at her...
