Name: Riley
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Appearance: Average height, roughly five feet, seven inches. He's thin, but in a very defined I've-spent-a-good-deal-of-my-life-making-sure-I-look-good sort of way that's just so fashionable. He's really quite handsome, in a sort of sleek but decidedly male way.
He's got short blonde hair with bangs that are constantly falling into his face, though the rest of it is shorter and swept back. (He constantly pushes his hair out of his eyes; Kye has taken to keeping a running tally of how many times he does so.)
His eyes are a rather odd blue-grey; sometimes more grey, sometimes dark blue. It really depends on the light. (And if he's been crying. But he'll never admit to anything like that.) He almost always wears white uniformly, occasionally a black waistcoat or high-necked sweater if his father is complaining he looks too pale. He's very fond of long double-breasted coats, and wears one as much as possible. Also? He almost always wears a pair of black gloves. Contrast, he says. (Why? Who knows.) He always looks presentable, and even if he's been doing something absolutely and entirely physical, he still never has a mark on him and his clothing is never mussed. (He claims it's a genetic skill passed down through his family.)
Picture:
This is Riley's "Not paying attention to you" face. Also known as his "I may possibly be scheming" face.
History: The only child of the Lord Holder of Lemos hold, and hardly his father's beloved son. They don't exactly get along, and Lord Raiden has frequently lamented his wife's death before she could give him "A son more worthy of inheriting the Lord Holder's Duties." It hardly helps that his father has stated he would much rather give the title to one of Riley's cousins or half-siblings.
Riley doesn't care, and would much rather just wait for his father to die before trying to convince anyone he'd actually be halfway decent at being the Lord Holder.
He was, at fifteen, sent away and given the duties of managing one of the much smaller minorholds, but after two years, he returned to Lemos' major urban center, to constantly be a thorn in his father side. He now works under the Steward of Lemos Hold, learning how to keep the place running.
(It was on his sixteenth birthday that his half-sister gifted him with his flit's egg, as well, midsummer.)
Despite disliking eachother, Lord Raiden gave Riley bodyguards after a dispute involving the threat to "Purify Lemos' bloodline."
That's where Kye comes in. Hired and given the task of keeping Riley alive, the wherhandler quickly ended up with responsibilities he didn't actually want, or expect, as he was originally tasked with acting as the Hold's wherhandler, not a personal bodyguard and babysitter. But the pay was good, and the Lord Holder agreed to forget certain mishaps that marred the man's history at some of the minorholds, and Kye agreed. Along with a few others and the steward of the hold, Riley relocated to the minorhold he'd managed previously, and given the same duties as before.
It was only a few weeks before Kye ended up in bed with the Lordling. It was almost entirely an accident, and involved a bit too much wine, and too little resistance on Kye's part. The others were hardly blind to what was going on, but they quite ignored the fact after Kye threatened to 'accidentally' sic Kyesk on them sometime if they got too mouthy. Riley stayed at the Minorhold then, and though he was hardly praised as the best Holder ever, no one disliked him.
(Though the Lord Holder kept insisting Riley find a wife from one of the holdwomen. That didn't work out so well.)
Then came the search. Not aware of what was going on, Riley somehow 'mistakenly'- read, knew what he was doing and did it anyway as part of some ultimate plan- agreed to stand for a hatching. And suceeded, on his Eighteenth birthday. (Either wher or dragon, he simply was there.) He was immediately taken from the possible candidates to inherit Lemos as Lord Holder, something which aggravated Riley greatly but quite nicely settled his cousin into the position after Lord Raiden chose to step down.
However, when it was found that his bonded was hatched with a defect, the only solution was to send him to Rocky. Again, aggravating Riley, but pleasing his father a great deal. (After all, what better way to be rid of the son you never wanted than to send him away; to a tiny hold no one cared about; even better, to a planet no one cared about, full of dragons Pern rejected. The Lord Holder is a little crazy, for the record. And is the type to cut off his own nose to spite his face.)
However it happened, though, Riley ended up at Rocky Weyr, with a flitter, a bonded wher and a rather bemused Kye, who through some manner, ended up as Wherlingmaster.
(Riley wonders if the Weyrleader was on some sort of drugs at that decision. Admittedly, Kye know a lot about whers, but Kye is...Kye. Really.)
Fate apparently laughs in Riley's face at every turn.
Personality: Not unpleasant, but his calm and relatively professional demeanor hides a deviously cunning mind paired with a knack for seriously pissing people off. Riley enjoys toying with people, and he is just the slightest bit (ha!) arrogant. He is completely convinced he's the most intelligent person in any group he's in (and unfortunately, he is incredibly smart, so this assumption is sometimes grounded in truth.) He's very goal-oriented, and can be absolutely ruthless when it comes to achieving those goals. So far he hasn't caused any major damage this way, but he and everyone who knows him is aware he could do some frightening things if it came down to it.
Again, though, his attitude is almost always pleasant, or at the very least, civil. (Though if he starts getting too civil, he's in the mood to break things, and pushing him will result in bad things for whoever happens to be on the other end when he explodes.) Despite being agressive and rather manipulative when it comes to achieving a goal, he really does care about the people of his Hold. He was very serious about being a good Lord Holder for emos, and he had dreams of helping to fix some of the errors he thought needed repairing under his father's time.
He is always thinking of his next move, even if it's something as simple as his plans for after lunch. But he is almost never caught off guard, and it's hard to find him without some sort of plan in case someything should go wrong. He's not always completely serious, but even when he's not actively focusing on something, his mind rarely takes a break.
(If one were to comare him to a modern Earth figure, he'd be very comfortable in the role of president of a company, one who is sharp, ruthless, and intolerant of failure. The kind who will stab someone in the back to achieve their goals, so long as the benefits outweigh the risks.)
With people he doesn't know, he keeps up a cold and rather distant front, but if he's around people he trusts (which is very few people, by the way) he relaxes and opens up much more easily. Kye is one of the few people who knows everything about him, and this is Riley's way of showing exactly how fond he is of his guardian. If he dislikes you, you'll rarely hear more than a vague statement that he may or may not verify with a hard-to-fathom expression.
He dislikes being disorganized, and frequently scolds Kye for the man's almost constant state of disorientation and his scattered thoughts, as well as his slovenly and crude habits and ill temper at times. Kye knows how to shut him up pretty well, though.
(Yes, he really does care deeply for Kye, and though they almost always end up screaming at eachother, it never seems to deter them from almost constantly being together.)
Wanted Firelizard Color: Anything works.
Wanted Firelizard Name: Rio- named after his sister, Rionna.
Wanted Wher Color: Any
Wher Defect/Injury: Like I can even think of any anymore.
Edit: He and Kye are keeping their...well, whatever-it-is under wraps. Riley isn't a moron. He's also not entirely comfortable with the way Kye doesn't seem to care about publicly being affectionate, and tends to freak out if even the slightest hint of his 'little secret' seems to be obvious. He's so far in the closet he's practically in Narnia. At least to the public.
Brown Risk - Risk is a cunning beast to match his bonded's determination. He's rather indifferent to others as he's learned from Riley, and is fond of frightening the more timid creatures around him with displays of his power. He is smart, nearly matching a dragon, and displays a surprisingly keen ability to pick up more words or phrases than the average wher. This, combined with his large, well muscled frame, make him an imposing figure both mentally and physically. Risk has a long scar across his muzzle from Raiden's assault, and it remains unclear if this affects him in any way.
Risk is a deep, warm, red-brown color, handsome and somber to go with his attitude. He's got snakelike diamond patterns along the back of his neck and back in a somewhat grayer tone than his body.
Risk and Riley were sent to Rocky not because Risk was in any way defected, but because upon hearing of Riley impressing to a wher of all things (the lazy boy couldn't even get a dragon to like him?) Lord Raiden lost his temper with his son and began to thrash him with his belt; normally, this was hardly anything new, and Riley hardly gave a damn, but the newborn Risk wouldn't stand for anyone hurting his human, and he attacked Raiden, easilly pinning the man and biting into his arm to make him release the belt.
Riley got him to back away, but after attacking a Lord Holder (his own father no less, though Riley was certainly somewhat pleased about that), the wherling and his bonded were told in no uncertain terms to get out; out of the Hold, and if they could manage it, out of Pern.
Kye asked Faizah and Kain if he could bring his protege with him; it couldn't hurt to have another wherling around, and neither he nor Riley were at all sure that Raiden's self-defense hadn't hurt the wher.
Green Rio - Rio is a sweet, motherly green. She loves Hers dearly, and tries her best to make friends with Risk, regardless of his cold demeanor. She acts like a little gold sometimes, ordering other flits around. She would swear it was all for their benefit, but most would just find it overbearing.
Rio is a pretty little thing, with wavelike patterns of turquoise on her body over her natural leafy green. She's actually a rather small green, and she's very petite.
