--- Mine... The gold eggs are hatching... Surth tentatively told FaizahHis. Faizah sighed, looking at the calender. "At least they are on time." She said. She slowly got to her feet. "Does Kain know?" She asked. Yes. Surth assured her. Faizah nodded, grabbing her paperwork. "I need to stop by the kitchen and let people know to start chopping meat." Already done. I have told them. Surth answered before Faizah got to the door. She nodded again. "Thank you, Surth. Are you heading to the sands?" She asked, already out of her room. Surth assured her that both he and Gorth would soon be in the sands. Faizah again thanked her white as she headed for the sands. She came across Kain and Nakia on the way, and the three of them hurried to the sands. It was early enough that some of the wherlings and wherhandlers might come to the hatching.

Hunter woke with a snort. He had been having a wonderfully hilarious dream about how all of the teachers at Columbia had suddenly started dancing and stripping. The funniest was the ancient biology teacher everyone knew and hated. It was like watching some wied old version of the Go Go Girls.
Yeah. Time for those dinosaurs to give him some pancakes.
Or not. He was guessing not. It wasn't just everyday he woke up and had dragons lounging all over the place. Yeah. He still wanted those pancaked though.
Why was he even up? It wasn't seven o'clock yet. Why had he woken? Was it the flurry of movement or the excited voices? The humming the was shaking his bones? Or just the fact he was here at all.
God bless Brittany.
He flung his blankets off, kmmediately regretting ig when he felt the cold air rush across his sweats and bare chest. He was happilly half-dressed. Not for long! After all that cool looking dragon from the sandbox just yelled at him. Or then. Or someone. Whatever the case, he was supposed to go to the eggs. Wherever they were.
Hey, he had only been there a few days!
Slipping on a robe, not really caring that it wasn't the white one a seething rider had given him, he shuffled out the door and looked around.
"Wake up!" a somewhat familiar voice roared. "Up, I say! A clutch is hatching and you are just sitting here?"
The Candidatemaster had not been getting much sleep lately. He was exhausted between the Two-Gold Clutch and the Isle Hatching, and he fervently wanted to sleep. Now, with next to none Candidates left after this Hatching, he'd be able to relax. Sweet oblivious sleep and peace.
Dear, the new one doesn't know where to go.
J'kent glanced at the disheveled boy that had just emerged from his quarters. Yes, his groggy grey-green eyes were somewhat confused as he looked around. “Dust!" He callex. "Show him to the Sands." The Brown flit chirped in acceptance of the charge and flew to the kid. "Just folow him. He'll get you there," he assured him as he spun him around and gave him a shove.
Lyrah! Wake up! The Clutch is Hatching! Kryninth called, waking a dozing Brownweyrling up. She, like J'kent, had not gotten much sleep. Two ,lutches, one a dead Gold's and one Kyrinth's and Dulchanth's had left her awake for days on end. As it was, she didn't want to move. Let alone walk all the way there.
Are you sure? Last time they were just shifting with Isath when she moved. The Brown was ovbiously embarrassed and slightly emraged that she had brung the incident up. It had been an honest mistake he had argued.
He refused to answer and rie to her gibe.
Fine.... she moaned, pulling herself up. I'm coming....

Recently, Nomics had realized that he hadnt had his own woman for quite some time. This had severely worried him, what if i've lost it?!?, he fretted. So in an effort to get whatever 'it' was back he started exercising every morning to make his dashing figure even more irresistible. Today was a crunches day.
"A one, and two, and three, and four. A One..."
Yurith rose his head from his slumber, a faint humming exuding from him. NomicsMine, Isath's surrogate clutch is hatching. The Bronze dragon didnt know why HisRider suddenly started waking up before sunrise, he didnt particularly care either, except for when His would proudly strut over to him after his routine and "show off" his "rugged good looks". That he found singularly amusing, considering he looked exactly as before.
"oh, is it?" Nomics said a little winded. "thats nice." With all the exercise he had been doing (150 crunches so far today) his brain was a little slow. "Oh! wait a second now! did you just say what i think you said??"
Unless you thought i said something different... he said with a rumble that could only be a dragon chuckle.
The rider scrunched up is face in mock displeasure in his dragon's direction. "well that would be the alternative, now wouldnt it." He started stripping off his sweaty clothes, "hey, do you think i have time for a shower?"
No.
"oh you! you spoil my fun!" But he started getting dressed anyway.
yurith waited patiently to carry HisRider to the sands, humming all the while.

Miriam Jayford could not disagree with the Sergeant's pronouncement of her fate. No matter how much she wanted to.
He was right. They were all right. She was never going to make a soldier. Which meant flipping burgers for the rest of her life. She was sure of it, trapped in that idea, unable to think beyond it.
"But, I believe the Lieutenant wants to talk to you."
She swallowed. She'd said a couple of things to the Lieutenant, too. Throwing his weight around the way officers thought they were...
And there she went again. This was why she had failed, was why she had been bound to fail. She simply was 'not the temperament for the military'.
"Go on."
She went, not because she was good at obeying orders, but because she wanted out of here and no doubt they would not let her leave without talking to him. He sat her down in his office and began to talk.
A semi-military project that needed young people who were tough, independent-minded and physically able. They preferred those with no ties. A base somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. No, not special ops. Something else. Something new. They told her about the dragons only after she swore, literally, to secrecy.
Then the plane ride to the west. The helicopter to the 'base somewhere in the Rocky Mountains'. Words handing her over to these strange people. And the dragons...huge beasts that, surely, were far too big to fly. And, yet, they did. And they needed, somehow, human partners. She had not envisioned herself as a pilot, but here she was.
The moment the soldiers left, though, there was a soft thrumming sound, and then a sudden urgency.
"Okay. Well. We don't have time to waste. Come on."
She found herself hustled...not quite physically...into a barracks area and ordered into what resembled nothing so much as a Catholic child's first communion robe. "What's going on?"
"The eggs are hatching. And we're very short of Candidates."
If she hadn't had it explained to her, she would have balked. As it was, she wanted to hesitate, but somebody had said unpartnered dragons died. She was too bent on fairness to let an animal (such she thought they were) die because she was a little confused. And tired, given she had napped on the plane and it had to be, well. Before breakfast in this timezone. A little later for her.
A huge area with sand on the floor. A dragon, presumably the mother of the eggs. She was rich green marked with deep gold, quite the splendid creature. The man who had hustled her here whispered "Bow to her," and then faded back, leaving her standing there alone. Okay.
Why should she bow? She did it anyway...for all that she didn't care much about rank, the dragon had Big Teeth and even Bigger Talons and females brooding eggs could get aggressive regardless of the species.
But now, what was she supposed to do? Stand there and wait to see what happened? That's what the other young people seemed to be doing. So that was what she did, trying to get the whirl out of her head.

Joseph mumbled and turned over as his blue flit, Gloriu nudged him and chirped. After more nudging and few nips, Joseph sat up, "What is it Gloriu?"
He was hit with happy emotions and images of eggs about to hatch. "A hatching? Wait...Where do I go?" Joseph got up and dressed as quickly as possible, banging into things and breaking others in the process.
Gloriu chirped and headed out, Joseph followed his blue closely, not wanting to be late, or get lost. He knew Gloriu would lead him to the right place. He had the utmost confidence in his flit. It didn't take them long to reach the hatching grounds, but Joseph kept his distance; unsure of if he could approach or not, infact he wasn't entirely sure as to anything he was supposed to do. He was sure someone would direct him in some way or another. Until then he waited, not wanting to incur the wrath of the chimera who had her tail wrapped around the eggs.

A rush of heat, and Alyssa came out from between over the Earth Weyr, above the Sands. The brownrider who had first brought her to Pern was also her ride back home, though she was on the wrong side of the country from the rest of her family, small though it was.
Already in the candidate's attire, she merely had to respect the dragon curled around the eggs. She knew the dragon, who looked like the green-gold chimera Isath she had been warned about, was not the eggs real mother, but a gold only recently gone between. Even the dragons on Pern had reacted violently to the loss of the gold, but it was a relief to know that the eggs, at least, were safe.
Dismounting from the brown's back nimbly, Alyssagave a farewell wave to the brown and his rider as the pair took to the air once more, going between back to Pern. Turning her attention back to Earth, keeping her thoughts from straying, she approached only slightly closer to the clutch before bowing deeply to Isath, unwilling to insult the surrogate mother who could easily forbid her to Stand.
Coming out of her bow, she took a look around, taking stock of the situation. There weren't many other people on the Sands or in the Stands, but people were running in now and then. It was almost like the Weyr was in shock over the loss of a gold dragon, and the hatching of the clutch she had left behind was shaking them out of their stupor. Or so it seemed to Alyssa.
She brushed her black hair out of her face and behind her ear, looking back to the eggs. After having been told that a gold only laid one gold egg per clutch at best, it came as a shock to see two golden hued eggs.

M'aati and Greens Herath and Nylath
The sound of humming vibrating through four different throats, was what alerted M'aati that something was happening. Unlike many of the people of the weyr, he hadn't been asleep. He hadn't slept passed dawn in some time. A nearly month old firelizard who could be oh so very instant that he had to eat now, despite the sun not yet being up, tended to do that to a person.
What's happening? He asked his girls. Isath says the eggs are hatching Nylath replied, the young female poking her yellow green nose through the doorway to M'aati's part of their weyr. "Really?" M'aati blinked, still not completely awake yet. He'd learned to feed Kenta almost on autopilot after the first few pre-dawn feedings. Yes really Herath snapped. Go get dressed so we can go and look at them
The young man hurried to get dressed, pulling on the thick coat some kind folks had found for the formerly Istan rider. It was so terribly cold here compared to the tropical island he'd lived on all his life, and being rather slender, he didn't have much in the way of body mass to be producing warmth. As soon as he was dressed, and Kenta and Imel safely set on his shoulders, he and the twins set out to the hatching grounds.
M'aati settled easily into the stands, undoing several of the buttons of his jacket now that he was in the warmth of the hatching grounds, while Herath and Nylath were unusually silent as they watched the strange clutch with it's two queen eggs, the only sound from them the soft greeting hum. ------- Candidate Alexandra Paige
It was early. Very early. Early enough that Alexandra had been getting herself some well earned rest, after a hard couple of days. She'd been having trouble balancing being a candidate and learning all the things a candidate needed to learn, with her duties as both Doctor and Lieutenant. Even now, she still had trouble sleeping deeply. The fact that, for once, she was dead to the world, was not going to be working in her favour today.
She roused groggily at Isath's call, knowing someone was calling her, but not processing the words, or the fact that it was a rather disembodied voice which was calling. She blearily looked around her room. It wasn't until Keero flicked out of between, the blue chirping and humming at the top of his voice, that it all kicked into place.
Alexandra all but shot out of bed, getting a squeak of protest from her kitten, who was suddenly covered in bedspread. "Not now Mika" Alex hushed the ball of fluff as she hurried through getting dressed. She hurried out of her room, turned, picked up the kitten who was following her, put Mika back on the bed and this time firmly shut the door behind her. She didn't want her fuzzy little pet out and wandering into trouble while she was on the sands.
She hurried across the bowl and into the hatching grounds, making a bow to the green-gold female who had guarded the eggs since their golden mother had lain them, and took her place among the candidates. Spotting a rather confused looking girl, Alex made her way over. The doctor didn't recognise the girl, and by this point she knew most of the other candidates by sight, if not necessarily by name.
"Hey, you're new here right?" The girl had the stunned sort of expression which people who'd only recently arrived all seemed to wear. Alexandra knew she'd had that look herself when she'd first come here. "I'm Alexandra. Most folks just call me Alex though"

Yamina hurried onto the sands, dressed in her white Candidate robe, and bowed to Isath. She couldn't believe that she was one of the last Candidates on the sands... But then she looked around. Yamina couldn't believe how few Candidates there were! Only six, counting herself...
It didn't matter at that moment. She needed to focus on the eggs that were shaking steadily. They would hatch at any moment, and she wanted to make sure that she had her entire attention on them.
---
Faizah watched excitedly. The Pernese Candidates should be coming soon. She had sent La'as and Sarah to go get the five Pernese Candidates, and she knew how those two didn't daudle. Faizah smiled as Kain appeared next to her. Kain was smiling as well, and he leaned down to be heard above the hums of dragons and flits alike.
"I told you that clutch was going to be fine."
Faizah laughed a little at that. But then her attention snapped to the sands as the first egg cracked. It was a jagged crack down the front of the egg, and the dragonet inside was obviously determined to get out. But to no avail as of yet.
Just then she noticed a shadow appear above them. Faizah looked up and noticed Sarah and her brown, Iaruth, above them. She smiled, knowing that some of the Candidates were here.
---
Iaruth landed gently in the sands, away from the other Candidates and the clutch. He bent his foreleg so that the three Candidates could easily get down. The two boys and the girl smiled and thanked Sarah and Iaruth before heading over to the clutch. They bowed deeply to Isath, then took up places around the clutch. Sarah dismounted as well, patting him on the foreleg.
"Thank you, Iaruth. And I'm sure the Weyrwoman is grateful. Now go join the others." She scratched his eyeridges before moving off to the Stands.
---
La'as and Taspoloth appeared then, landing just as gently. Taspoloth was a little winded, carrying more than she should have, but she hummed along with the others. Their two candidates, a boy and girl, dismounted quickly and ran over to the clutch. He smiled at them, remembering his own excitement when he first came to Earth to Impress. He dismounted as well, rubbing Taspoloth's eyyridges to try and relax her.
After she regained her breath, a few moments after landing, she rubbed her muzzle against his chest. La'as smiled and started for the stands and Taspoloth flew off to take a perch among the other dragons.

Nomics sat in the sands admiring Isath and the lovely clutch she guarded. He wondered if the little egg in her claws would be able to hatch. Then he got to looking at the candidates for this clutch. He recognized Yamina, of course, but didn’t really know the others. So few! thought Nomics to his Bronze. Barely enough for one for each dragon!
Yes, but they can hardly be blamed. Yurith rumbled.
Nomics gave a noncommittal shrug. “You’re right, of course. I hope we get more though. Those queen eggs at least deserve a good selection!”
Yes, The Bronze thought gravely, It would be a horrible tragedy if one or even both went Between because TheirBonded wasn’t present.
The Rider gave a little shiver of horror at the thought, “I hate to even think such things!”
---
Sandra briskly walked onto the sands but stopped. How HUGE these dragons were! Sure she had seen them flying, eating, and laying around, but that was at a distance! If she impressed would her dragon grow so large? But then her excitement kicked in. There were dragons! What an honor it was to even be able to look at them! How many other people got an opportunity like this! She thought of her friends and family back home and wondered what they would think of this spectacle. She giggled a little; they certainly wouldn’t have reacted as calmly as she had!
Now composed, the candidate marched strongly onto the sands. The heat from the ground made her a little drowsy, but it wasn’t unpleasant. She walked to where the other candidates stood, bowed her reverence to Isath, and waited. Little butterflies churning in her excited stomach.
---
Punctuality. If he had learned anything from his years as a candidate it was to be punctual and he had blown it. Hopefully the eggs hadn’t started hatching yet! What a disturbing thought, to never meet your bonded because he had hatched and Betweened before you even reached the sands.
Ziervan shuddered and closed his eyes for a moment. For so long now he had been dragonless, watching as candidate after candidate was chosen instead of him. This was his chance though; he had a feeling, deep in his bones, that this was it.
The young man walked briskly onto the sands and to the Green/Gold Chimera who watched over the clutch. He bowed deeply to her, honored to be able to stand in her presence and at this hatching. Ziervan saw with relief that none of the dragonettes had hatched yet. A good sign for him, he thought. A good sign. He waited with tangible excitement for the first egg to crack open.

Joseph, after witnessing the other Candidates' actions, also bowed to the Chimera.
At this point, he just felt utterly lost, though he wouldn't admit it. He kept his attention away from all the women that came to the sands, now was not the time to flirt. There was plenty of time for that later.

Okay. Now Miriam was getting a grasp of what to do. One bowed to the dragon guarding the eggs...one of them was tiny and rested between the green-gold forepaws. Was it the runt?
Had to be, she thought, smaller than the others, but it appeared the mother was fond of it. (No, Miriam did not know Isath was not the dam of the clutch).
And then, apparently, one waited. She doubted the wait would be long, but it already felt like half a lifetime. She recalled the briefing. The dragons partnered for life...if the rider died, the dragon committed suicide and if the dragon died the rider often at least wanted to. It was, in other words, a symbiosis, a partnership beyond any she could realistically imagine.
But...but. The dragons might well be worth it. Certainly the dragon mother was an elegant creature, with her odd markings and a distinctly feminine cast to her. Miriam thought that, anyway.
None of the eggs had actually hatched yet, though, although they were moving and twitching in the dim, pre-dawn light.

Pernese believed that luck would come to the Weyr if a bronze hatched first. Which was unlikely to happen, since so little of the clutch consisted of bronzes. But the possibility held true as the first egg hatched from the Two-Gold clutch. With a loud crack and a shattering of shell flakes, the first dragonet entered the world.
A medium bronze dragonet stood on the sands. He fanned his wings a little to dry them, then looked around. If one looked close enough they would notice a burnished bronze color on his legs, almost like socks. The young bronze, already looking large even for a bronze, lowered his head and swung his neck around, looking at the Candidates.

And...wow. There one was. The hatchling was sort of a rich metallic color...with darker points.
Hah. Like a bay horse, Miriam thought. Except emphatically not a horse. His newborn gaze ran over her and she couldn't help but shiver a little. He was so adorable, but she knew in her heart that he was judging her and...apparently finding her wanting.
She had not had time to absorb all of the information. She did not know that bronze dragons did not Impress to girls, ever, so she did not know that she was eternally wanting as far as he was concerned.
But she loved his markings, and the way he moved. She wanted him, but he did not want her. Was that what this would be like?
Speed dating with dragons, she thought suddenly, and couldn't help but laugh.

Nomics had been studying the crowd when the first egg hatched. He gave a startled jump at the sound and quickly turned to see the first dragonette. The Rider whistled quietly to himself while Yurith rumbled his approval, “Two Golds and now a Bronze! Wonderful wonderful!” He couldn’t help smiling at this good omen.
---
Sandra couldn’t help but stare at the collection of eggs on the sands. What would they be, she wondered. The candidate had been told the most important facts on her way to the weyr, and even more once she got here. She knew that only the gold eggs could be distinguished in a clutch, and that all the others were a gambit. She had been told the hierarchy of colors and that the higher level dragons chose gender specific partners. So when the first egg hatched, and after she opened her eyes from the spray of shell, she was both impressed and a little disappointed that it was a Bronze.
She watched him though, with more than a little awe. So this was a baby dragon? He was so large! But she supposed that compared to the full grown dragons around the sands he was quite tiny. She watched him unfurl his sticky wings and smiled, he was a very winsome dragon! Or at least he would be when he grew up, for now he was just plain adorable. Whoever this little one bonds with will be a very lucky guy! She thought.
---
Ziervan was studying the eggs, he know that they wouldn’t tell him what gems they contained – emeralds, saphires, or bronze- but he could guess by the size. He was staring at a relatively large one which he thought might be a bronze when another, larger, egg began to hatch. It emerged quickly and he saw that it was a Bronze. He thought his luck was good before, but he took the hatchling which was supposed to prove good fortune for the weyr as a good omen for himself. His hope was bolstered.
As it stood studying its new surroundings, so much different from the cream colored wall that was his home for so long, Ziervan was studying him, captivated. In the back of his mind he knew that he shouldn’t get his homes up, there were five other male candidates and only this one Bronze, but oh how perfect the little dragon was! Then the dragonette’s head shifted to study the circle of candidates surrounding him. Ziervan caught his breath -- soon, soon he would know if he would be chosen or not.

Joseph's eyes lit up as the first egg hatched. As it's head moved in his direction, he swore his heart had skipped a beat. However, this bronze found him inadequate. Joseph's heart sank a bit, but he remembered there were other eggs that had not hatched yet, that he still had a chance to impress.
He continued to admire the bronze as it judged each Candidate. This will be interesting to watch. I wonder who it will choose? Joseph thought, his eyes moved between the bronze and the eggs that had not hatched yet. There were so few Candidates. What would happen to the hatchlings that did not find their bonded? He hoped nothing bad would happen, that was the last thing he wanted, especially for the golds that remain unhatched.
He knew little of dragons and the weyr life, but he did know that golds were rare and very special. It would be a shame if something happened to them....

Alyssa watched as the first egg to hatch was a bronze, and smiled. He was an adorable little bronze, and would likely grow up to a fine being. Whoever bonded with that little dragon would be a lucky fellow indeed.
She had been around the Pernese long enough to know the basics of dragons and Impression, and knew that the bronze wouldn't pay the women standing around the clutch any attention. Her attention continued to wander over to the gold eggs that were so obvious against the Sands. She wondered what the two golds would be like once they hatched, and who they would bond to...

Suddenly the little bronze moved, heading towards a group of boys. He picked his feet up high when he walked, much like a high stepping horse, and he set his feet down gently again. While the bronze's wings were unfurled a little, probably to keep his balance, his tail swung from side to side in a slow arch. Finally the bronze reached who he wanted. He nudged his head against Ziervan, then proceeded to rub his head on the boy's leg like a cat would. Ghaith has found you, Z'vanMine... The bronze said as he continued to rub his head on the boy's leg. Bronze Ghaith #7F7001 Socks of 491710 Adaptable, Gentle, Squeamish Hatchling size of 7.5ft Adult size of 40ft Ziervan (Z'van) Just as the bronze Impressed, another egg hatched. This one hatched slowly, but still before the other eggs, and revealed a gorgeous light mint green with brighter green stripes. The little green, crouched in what remained of her shell, looked around with jerky motions. She looked quite anxious, and even sounded it when she called out to the Weyr. Mine? Where are you mine? Rityth doesn't like that you won't answer...--- Yamina watched with a smile as the large bronze Impressed to a boy from her Candidate lessons. He deserved that bronze! But soon her focus turned to the little green that had just hatched. And what a green she was... A nice light color, without looking washed out, and with brighter stripes adorning her nose, neck, legs and tail. But Yamina knew something was wrong. The little green just remained crouched in her egg shells. Was she injured? Nope. Yamina heard her call out in the next moment. Mine? Where are you mine? Rityth doesn't like that you won't answer...

Joseph smiled as the bronze found His, but his smile was short-lived as he heard the voice of the newly hatched green Mine? Where are you mine? Rityth doesn't like that you won't answer... Was Hers not here among the Candidates? What would happen to her if Hers didn't come? Joseph wondered if there was anything he could do to help the little green, hoping nothing bad would befall her. He scanned the sands, looking at each Candidate. Answer...One of you answer please... Joseph felt sick to his stomach, he wasn't liking this at all. He didn't know why but he cared a lot about that little green croached, fearful and confused in what remained of her eggshell. This wasn't like him at all, to feel things this deeply. Perhaps it was no more than his nerves. He was on edge with the excitement of possibly Impressing a dragon. Surely that was all it was?

He couldn’t take his eyes off the young Bronze. who will he choose? Ziervan thought with a twinge of fear. The odds, though not as slim as at a Pern Hatching, were still not in his favor. He wanted this one though! This adorable beast was the one he wanted to spend the rest of forever with. He didn’t know why, he had never felt this way about another dragon before… There had always been the mild disappointment at not being picked, until the very end where the bitterness of being left alone again became obvious. But this Bronze, he just knew— As Ziervan had been lost in his thoughts the Bronze hatchling had been walking towards the group he was in. He continued walking carefully until he reached the one who would be his Bonded.
Ghaith has found you, Z'vanMine...
As the large dragonette nudged him and rubbed his leg with obvious affection, tears began to stream down Ziervan- no Z’van’s- face. His life was complete now, his quest to be whole ended because of this amazing creature. Suddenly he was relieved that he hadn’t been chosen for all these Turns. If he had he wouldn’t have his Ghaith, his one and only. He reached over to his second half and scratched his eye ridges, “That you have my heart.”
--- Sandra was struck by the raw emotion from the new bronze weyrling. So that was what it was like to bond? It seemed a little scary to be so melded with another living thing. scary, she thought, but also so wonderful, I think… She smiled and hoped she would be able to impress a dragon, especially if it would be like that!
Her gaze was torn from the happy couple to a new dragon emerging, this one a pale green. A girl! She thought, and very pretty. But the poor little dear wasn’t moving around like Ghaith had, instead she sat rooted to her old shattered home. She appeared worried; at least she sounded so when she called out to everyone. Sandra hoped that the dragonette would find Hers soon…
Off handedly she wondered what the other dragons would look like. So far these two were so different from each other! What other colors would hatch from the clutch? She was very excited to see.

Now, it seems, the hatching was happening more quickly.
First, the bronze colored hatchling stalked or paced...she wasn't sure which was the right word...over to a boy and rubbed its head against his leg. Aww. Now that was cute. He was just like a dragon-shaped cat.
A rather big cat. Then a second egg fell open, but its contents did not move right away. This one was a light, bright green color and considerably smaller than the first one. Then there was a desperate, female voice in Miriam's head. The poor thing was...apparently having problems finding the right rider for her, and Miriam's heart went out to the young creature. What happened if they didn't bond?
A chill ran through her. They died. That was what he had said. Why they needed people...so the dragons would not die of broken hearts in the moment of their births. Why would hers not answer? The green's mind brushing against hers, so desperate, so...hungry. Hungry in both senses of the word. But Miriam had no clue if she could answer her, if she should, and if so how...but she did know she wanted the dragon to live.
She didn't know the Candidates who stood around her. Maybe somebody was late? But she could not dislodge that feeling that there was none here to answer the green, a feeling she tried to push away. It was not right to be so pessimistic...but she wanted to keep her safe.

The little green finally began moving, at the same time calling out to those at the hatching in the same anxious tone. Miriammine... Why won't you come to your Rityth? The little green, Rityth, was moving quickly across the hot sands, towards where a few Candidates were clustered. Hers was there, in that small group, and she would make sure to claim her before the little queens could. Miriam was Rityth's! Rityth finally reached Miriam, curling herself around the Candidate's legs much like Isath was curled around the remaining eggs. Rityth looked up at Miriam with rainbow swirling eyes. Miriam is mine... Rityth crooned. Green Rityth #A1FAB1 Rings on nose, neck, tail and legs of 08fd35 Productive, Anxious, Instinctive Hatchling Size of 4ft Adult Size of 26ft Miriam
Just as the green Impressed, one of the gold eggs started cracking. Some of the Candidates that were closer to the egg could see the gold hide beneath the cracks, and a wave of excitement went through them. Soon, they all knew. Soon one of the gold eggs would hatch... --- Yamina watched happily as the green Impressed. But then her attention was attracted to the gold eggs. One of them was cracking. So much so that Yamina could see a lighter gold hide underneath the cracks. She smiled, so excited she felt she could jump up and down. But she didn't dare. She had to be composed in order to Impress a gold. Yamina knew she had to keep her wits up. She couldn't help but look over to Nomics, in the crowd, for a moment. She smiled at him a little bashfully, then turned back to the clutch. Soon... Soon she would Impress...

Joseph sighed in relief as the little green found Hers. Wow, she's a possessive little green he thought as he watched the green wrap herself around the woman's legs...Miriam? He'd heard the name, but he really didn't know her. She was very pretty... Joseph shook himself out of his thoughts, dragons now, ladies later!
His attention was removed from the green and Hers to the remaining eggs. He smiled as he noticed a gold starting to crack. The little queen would soon hatch and hopefully impress to one of the ladies here. Whoever impressed her would be very lucky for sure. He didn't know much about dragons but he did know that golds were rare and that they only impressed to women.
He scanned the sands, wondering just who would bond with the gold when she hatched. He was excited but he was sure that he wasn't as excited as the ladies who'd not yet impressed.

Come on, Miriam thought. The green had to choose, had to bond, had to... She had to live and to Miriam, who did not value rank or privilege, the green was every bit as important as the much-longed-for queens.
Then she was rushing over to her, almost without any conscious thought. Why had she not come? Because it had taken her a moment to realize that that desperate, anxious call was truly meant for *her*...and by the time she had, the dragonet had moved with this sudden speed they seemed capable of, wrapping her currently dog-sized form around her.
"If you don't let me move, love, I can't get you food." Which was the absolute truth, there, if she moved a muscle right now, she would trip over Rityth's tail. Or, worse, Rityth's head, looking up at her with those impossible eyes.
No going back now...she was committed to this place, these people, and this gorgeous creature who would eventually grow into a spectacular lady of the skies.

Alyssa must have zoned out for a couple minutes, because one minute there were no hatchlings on the Sands, then there were two new weyrling pairs. The first looked to be a bronze with deeper, burnished socks, Impressing to what looked like a Pernese boy. Or he could have been from Earth, she had no idea. She was only just arriving herserlf!
The second was a pretty, pale green with deeper green rings around her muzzle, neck, legs, and tail. It made the green even cuter, and it was just plain old adorable to see the green all but dart to Hers, curling up around her. The air about the girl was strictly Earthian, though. Alyssa had no doubt whether or not she was Pernese or from Earth, because everything about her just screamed Earth.
The bronze was also cuddling with His, somewhat anyway. He was rubbing the boy's leg much like a cat would, which Alyssa had somewhat seen a lot. In dragons, anyway. Autumn was always throwing herself at somebody to get attention.
That cat was such a graceless clutz...
And there went her attention again. She snapped herself back into the present, not wanting to miss another dragon taking its first steps into the strange world.

Oh how sweet, Nomics thought to Yurith as he watched the Bronze and then the green impress. It was always such a beautiful thing to see dragon and man, or woman as the case may be, united. It made him think of the hatching Yurith found him at. He looked lovingly at his precious friend and companion, still so honored by his choice in him.
The Bronze Rider looked back at the sands and caught Yamina’s eye. He saw her lovely little smile and grinned back at her encouragingly. Nomics was very excited to see what the young lady would get. A stoic Blue? A fiery Green? Berhaps a friendly Brown? Or would she get one of the two coveted Queens? He knew that whatever happened he would be so happy for her!
Suddenly his attention was caught again. Yurith! Look!
The Bronze rumbled with an uncommon display of excitement. I See NomicsMine!
The first of the two Gold eggs was cracked and breaking more every moment, as if the occupant was restless. Nomics knew that the people watching it certainly were!
---
Sandra was quite glad when the little green found Hers. Again she saw and was awed by the great melding of hearts that was the act of Bonding. She was so new to this world of dragons and riders but already she was so enraptured by it! She wanted very much to be a part of what all this place, this new life, had to offer her.
She noticed a disturbance as some of the other candidates, and even riders in the stands, began to look where the queen eggs sat. The excited murmuring concerned her at first, but then she saw the reason for it. One of the Queen eggs looked like it was going to hatch soon! Possibly now! Oh how exciting! the candidate thought. She had never seen a Gold before! What would she look like? Who would the lucky lady be that would bond to such a special dragon? She waited with baited breath to find out.
