Miriam was glad that her dragon was green. Very much not green, the firelizard on her shoulder.
They were all getting stressed and worried...the dragons, the firelizards, the humans. She thought that going between to Pern was running away, but she would do it if the Weyrwoman said she had to.
Part of her...just could not bring herself to abandon the world. But she was only a greenrider. She didn't have to make the decision. So, why was she pacing the bowl fit to wear a groove in the grass? (Actually, there were already quite a few of those).
"Shard it," she said, finally, stealing the Pernese expression. She wasn't sure exactly *how* a term referring to broken eggs had become a swear word - did it imply dead dragons? But it made a good substitute swear when Earth people were around (Her mother had been fond of 'Sugar' for such purposes). And Miriam had trained herself not to actually swear even when nobody was around except her firelizard.
