CHARACTER PROFILE

UPDATED AS OF IC DATE AUGUST 5, 2012
Honorific Name: Y'ume
Former Name: Yarume
Birth Date: December 25, 1984
Age: 27 Years Old
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual but leaning towards females
Origin: Harper Hall of Pern
Rank: Brownrider/Searchrider
Weyr: Rocky Weyr of Earth
Appearance: Y'ume has shiny, thick, and slightly wavy hair. Being a Searchrider, Y'ume likes to keep his hair clean and cut well above his shoulders while his bangs are cut just above his eyebrows. He rarely styles his hair and yet, it is as if someone has taken a comb through his hair for his hair is never out of... well, out of position. One would never find his hair dishiveled in any time of day even after flying drills. Under the sun, his hair gives off blonde yellow highlights. However, in the shade, his hair is just your average brown the color of mud.
He has light brown eyes, almost amber in color, under somewhat thick but well-shaped brows. They are a bit wide-spaced in his triangular-shaped face but they still look in proportion to everthing else. Y'ume has up-turned almond shape eyes making him forever look well... smirking at you. They may not be the windows to his soul but they cannot also tell a lie. His eyes are restless whenever he is trying to lie or hope that he does not get caught when he knows he has done something wrong.
Inheriting his height from his mother, Y'ume may be considered petite back in Pern since he only stands at five feet and ten inches tall. But on Earth, he is considered average in height. Yarume does not have, what one would term as a muscular build. Actually, strangers often mistake him as being frail because of the absense of visible muscles that men his age should have especially a dragonrider like Y'ume. Despite his small size and the lack of visible muscles within in body, Yarume is quite strong and is able to lift objects twice, and at extremes, even three times his weight. Moreover, although his legs may not look like runner's legs, Y'ume can run swiftly when necessary.
His skin may be termed as fair and almost alabaster-like in color but, under the sun, one may notice a sprinkling of freckles, a very light brown in color, upon his chest and back, near his nose, and the outer areas of his arms and legs. He may not have the perfect set of teeth but, at least he always brushes them every night. He was not born with marks but over the Turns, he has acquired a number of scars which are, thank Faranth, barely visible to the naked eye. He had gotten them, the scars, during practice drills and the ever popular Weyr Games. It is fortunate however that so far, he has not had any injuries or scars to mar his face.

Personality: Two words describe Y'ume's personality, and that is, he is a "steady rock." Y'ume is not one to be found panicking needlessly and usually helps to find solutions to problems. He likes to take things leisurely almost to the point of procrastinating although he does get the job done. For all his smiling face, is a very serious person. He gives everyone the benifit of the doubt and will reserve judgement until one gives evidence to the contrary. Although he may not give out jokes, he will laugh at them readily enough. However, most of the time he is slow in getting the joke that he is usually the last one to laugh when everyone else is already laughing.
Despite his serious demeanor, Y'ume is pretty approachable and easy to talk to. Ladies have been known to ask for his comfort whenever they, the ladies, have been dumped by the men. And no, there is nothing sexual going between them at all. Y'ume is a good listener and also gives good advice. He does not take advantage of vulnerable ladies and is the very epitome of an ideal gentleman.
Y'ume is a hard worker and a somewhat obedient follower. He will finish his task without asking for help, even though the task set to him must be accomplished with two people. If this is so, Y'ume finds ways wherein he is able to complete the task by himself. He has grown quite efficient in doing things on his own or with the help of his dragon, Firenth. He is a friendly fellow who is quick to offer his help when needed. Otherwise, one will have to figure things out on their own for Y'ume will not help those that do not consciously try to do things on their own without asking for help from others.
Y'ume is not one for being bullied and would likely retaliate should anyone try to bully their way with him. Nor does he like seeing someone else being bullied and would defend that person against the bully even if that bully is twice his size. He rather likes to mend his own clothes or even do some embroidering when he has some free time. He has the presence to instill proper behavior with every young person that he meets even though this trait of his, is often unacknowledged by Y'ume. He always just thought that the youngsters behaved well because they wanted to be dragonriders in the future like himself. And being likened to a rock, Y'ume can become quite stubborn in things especially when he wants to do things to perfection.
History: Y'ume, formerly known as Yarume, was born and raised in Harper Hall. On his birth, his father, Yaran, and his mother, Umeki, named him by a combination of their names. Yar, from his father, and ume, from his mother. As an infant, he was quite fuzzy and didn't like being handled by strangers. He always cried for his mother which just about drove her crazy when she needed to be working not worrying about her eldest, Yarume. It was just fortunate that as the Turn passed, Yarume became comfortable enough with other people that he stopped being so fuzzy when he was left with the other children in the hold creche. Because of the rather stressful time that Yarume had given his mother, she had opted not to get pregnant anymore despite, Yaran wanting to have more children. And so, he became his father's sole hope for a brigther future. At two Turns, Yarume, finally learned to walk and what a relief that had made his parents for he was getting quite big and heavy to be carried around just to get from point A to point B. At three Turns, Yarume started upon exploring the hold, always devising ways of getting out of the creche without anyone the wiser. As luck would have it, he had a good sense of direction even at such a young age for he never got lost in his wandering ways. At four Turns old, he said his first sentence. Mind, he has never talked in his four Turns and it was such a surprise when he talked for the first time that his parents just gawked at him. And do you know what he said at that time? He said, well... more like stated, "I want to be a dragonrider." At the time, his parents did not really care if he wanted to be a dragonrider or not. All they cared about was that their son was not mute at all. At five Turns, like all the other children in the hold, he learned his letters and numbers. In addition, he was taught the basic Teaching Songs and Ballads. Although he was not an exemplary student, he was good enough to pass his exams whenever they were given out to them.
At six Turns, his dislike for bullies showed itself when... during his free time in the creche, he was playing on stacking blocks and another kid his age came over his side and swiped at he blocks making it all come tumbling down on the floor. At first, Yarume cried because of what happened. But in the next minute, he took a swing at the kid. The kid had been so surprised when Yarume retaliated that Yarume was successful in giving the other kid a blackeye. He was still fuming enough that he cast a baleful glare at anyone who dared to come near him and his toys. His parents had also been surprised to be called from work and told that their son, Yarume had hit another kid. At seven Turns old, Yarume had attended his first ever Gather. There were so many things to see and do that he just couldn't stay put in one place. And guess what happened, he managed to... get away from his ever watchful parents and explore the Gather grounds all by himself. And as you might well know, his parents knew of his wandering ways back in the hold and had tried their best to keep a watch on Yarume to no avail. Therefore, instead of having fun during the Gather, his parents spent a harrowing time trying to look for a "supposedly lost" Yarume who at that time was having fun watching the races. At eight Turns, his experiences thus far has made him always have a ready smile on his face just to make his parents feel more easier and relaxed when he was... out and about. He always came home smiling like he'd had the time of his life which, he usually did. And if for some reason things had gotten wrong during the course of the day, he always hid it behind a smile whenever faced with his parents who were just always clueluess as to Yarume's true feelings. At nine Turns, he saw his first dragon up close and personal. The Bluerider and his dragon were out on Search. Yarume was excited enough that he presented himself to the rider stating that he wanted to be a dragonrider. The Bluerider had looked down on him and much to his embarrassment, the Bluerider smiled and said, "Much as I know you do, little one, but... you're a tad too young for the type of Candidate I'm looking for." Then, the Bluerider did the most humiliating thing of all to him, at least in Yarume's opinion, the Bluerider messed with his hair. Yarume had spent time putting it in some sort of style and here the Bluerider just made a complete mess of it. It was a good thing that Yarume was too conscious of the others around him and of the Bluerider's... well rank that he managed not to make a scene. At ten Turns, Yarume developed a rather unusual hobby for a boy his age. And do you know what that is? He became fascinated with a nice bit of embroidery so much that he wanted to be able to do something like it himself. He was after all rather always nicely dressed with his clothes always color coordinated and never had patterns that clashed. One could even sometimes see him dressed in something red and pink and still not doubt his... masculinity despite red and pink being... well, girl colors.
At eleven Turns, Yarume was fostered out to the Weaver Hall since he does like to do embroidery. Being at the Weaver Hall almost made him forget about wanting to become a dragonrider. He learned so mubh about the different kinds of sewing stitches, different kinds of thread, different kinds of fabric, etc. However, a visit from a dragonrider messenger to the Weaver Hall made him remember his dream about becoming a dragonrider. At twelve Turns, he was now old enough to become a Candidate. And sure enough, he was searched by the same Bluerider that he had met three Turns ago. And as he stood at the Hatching, he Impressed Brown Firenth and life as he knew it, changed entirely after finally meeting his lifemate. Life as a Weyrling made Yarume, now called Y'ume, realize that he had never really knew what hard work meant until Y'ume had to be up at dawn to butcher the meat that his Firenth would need to eat. Y'ume quickly adapted to his new life at the weyr and soon became a model weyrling pair with Brown Firenth. Therefore, the Weyrlingmaster would usually make Y'ume and Brown Firenth as examples of the ideal Weyrling. At fourteen Turns, he and Firenth would usually be sent away during green and gold mating flights because Y'ume was considered as still too young to participate even if his dragon was mature enough to do so. At fifteen Turns, one of the Weyrlings had accidentally discovered Earth while trying to go Between.
At sixteen Turns, Y'ume was finally able to participate in his first mating flight. Unfortunately, Firenth was not the winner, but at least, Y'ume now knows what mating lust could do to a rider. At eighteen Turns, Y'ume's Firenth developed a propensity for searching likely Candidates that would inevitably become the future riders of Benden Weyr. At twenty Turns, Y'ume experienced for the first time, what it means for his dragon to have caught the female green. Y'ume didn't really care whether his partner at the time was male or female, he just cared that his dragon was given the most satisfaction during the mating. At twenty-two Turns, Y'ume was asked to be the Assistant Weyrlingmaster since the younger weyrlings all some to want to behave better whenever Y'ume was around. At twenty-five Turns, Y'ume was one of the few riders who was given the location of Earth so that he and Firenth could Search for Candidates and bring them to Pern and vice-versa, bringing Pernese Candidates to Rocky Weyr on Earth. In the end, after Y'ume turned twenty-six, F'lar had asked Y'ume if he was willing to stay permanently on Earth and be the First Searchrider of Rocky Weyr and carry off Candidates from Earth to Pern or from Pern to Earth if need be. And so we find Y'ume on Brown Firenth arriving at Rocky Weyr to be Rocky Weyr's first ever Searchrider.
As soon as Y'ume and Firenth arrived at Rocky Weyr to permanently stay there, they chanced upon a Green's mating flight that just started. The dragonpair decided to participate even though they haven't properly greeted anyone yet. However, in the end, the dragonpair was not able to win the flight and they learned of the lockdown currently in effect. However, being the only Searchrider for the Weyr, the pair was allowed to fly outside of the weyr in search of Candidates. And that was what the pair did when the clutch of Green Raynith and Green-Gold Isath lay hardening in the Hatching Sands. The pair not only Searched on Earth, but also back in Pern. However, because of the covert nature of their mission on Earth, Y'ume and Firenth weren't able to fully utilize their Searching ability except when Searching back on Pern.

By now, there was one egg left. This one was not yet claimed by the person who reserved it, and no one had any intention of trying to keep the flitter in the shell until said person arrived. After all, you couldn't keep a dragon from hatching. Instead, this one would be left up to chance...
This egg was housing a particularly idiotic flitter. The little creature was poking holes all around the egg, and shoving its weight against each one in turn, but didn't seem to grasp the concept of using just one. It worked at each gap that it made, and from between the shell shards, a dark indigo hide was seen, though it was hard to make out in the darkness of the egg. The flitter screeched, shoving various limbs through different holes in an attempt to find the best way out, but he only managed to get himself stuck.
Flailing about, the fire lizard opened his mouth and let out a startled yell. His eyes were swirling red and orange, and the flitter ran in circles in his stubborn attempt to get out of the egg shell. The sand was a bit much though, and as he noticed he was approaching the boot of someone, he tried to skid to a stop, or at least turn, instead ramming into the boot. The egg shell shattered on impact, and the blue pounded on said footware, gnawing on the material.

With a satisfied croon, the bronze climbed out of the egg, and onto the hand of the person holding him. He was of an orangey dusty bronze color, with a line of black down his spine.
