Appearance: At 5'8", Samantha is tall and skinny, but anyone can tell she's tough and she's strong. Sammy has very dark brown hair that appears almost black in shadow and almost auburn in light, and creamy skin. She has cool vibrant blue eyes which appear to look into your soul. All her emotions show in her eyes, and she has a very expressive face.

History: Sammy was born in the state of Virginia to Her mother, Kathrine, who was 29, and her mother's boyfriend, 31. When Sammy was 3, they got their first pet, and that is when her love of animals truly formed. She named the new puppy Miriam, because she thought the name was a beautiful one. When she was 6, her parents got married, which was a joyous occasion, but it was the last big event she would go to with Miriam. Sammy was 8, when Miriam became sick, and two months later passed away. Samantha was torn with greif, and told her mom she would never love another pet as much as that dog. Samantha is an only child, so the sadness was greater for her, Yet her love of animals did not end completely- it would have been against her nature to do so. She went to school like any other child, at a wonderful little schoolhouse, from kindergarden through 5th grade. After that, she went to a middle-high scool that specialized in sciences. Samantha had thought about becoming a vet, so that would become helpful.
When she was 13, she and her parents moved to Wyoming. Even though sammy had pledged that no other animal could win the same love her dog had, she constantly brought home strays who needed help. Of course, most were given to animal shelters, but sometimes Sam would take care of the stray for a little while, before giving it away. In Wyoming, her new highschool had a veterinary training class, and she tried to get into that one class, but was unsucessful. A 14 year old, sammy thought about it and felt that being a vet wasn't truly what she wanted to do: she couldn't handle seeing any animal in pain, because it reminded her of Miriam. She had laways been an active child, runnign around everywhere, and she found that she was actually intrested when she tried out Karate. And she was a natural at it, in fact. She quickly progressed in her karate classes.
Around her 14th birthday, she was riding her bike home from school, even though it was chilly out, when her bike's tire ran out of air. She led the bike towards the nearest gas station, but stopped as she noticed a curious rock. It was about the size of her palm and sandy-colored, and perfectly round. Sam stuck it in her pocket and thought no more of it for a few days once she put it on her bedside table at home. But a few days later, that "rock" hatched into a tiny, smoothskinned, dragonlike creature! Its expressive, colorful eyes caught her's and before she knew it, it had impressed to her. She, feeling the intense hunger of her new, accidental pet, grabbed a peanut butter sandwhich and tried to feed it to her new friend. the little blue-colored minidragon couldn't eat the peanut butter, because it got stuck in his mouth and sort of stopped him from opening it succesfully. Samantha gave up on that and raided her refridgerator for soemthing a minidragon might like to eat, the creeling blue sitting on her forearm and digging his little nails in. She finally found some fish fillet that was still good and gave little pieces to her new pet. He loved it. Of course, at the time she did not know it was a firelizard, or where it had come from, but she hid it from her all-too realistic parents who would probably view it as a pest or at least a danger to their child. She found that he could teleport, which made her job of keeping him hidden harder- much harder- but whenever she went downstairs she told him to stay upstairs. He started to listen to her when she would give him his favorite snack- fish, in fact- and would even stay out of sight when she went to school, although he was allowed to go wherever he wanted, just not be seen. She did not name her blue right away, because he didn't really give her anything to name him- she tried bluie, which sounded childish, ocean, which sounded too flighty, and tiny, which was an insult to the not-so-small blue. Finally, she came up with a suitable name, when she saw him swimming in her sink in a plastic cup as a boat. "It may sound silly, but your name is Moses." Moses seemed to like his new name, so it stuck. Then, about a week after she impressed the tiny dragon, on a Saturday, a Dragonrider showed up on her doorstep while it was still lightly snowing outside! A shocked and confused ( and a great many other adjectives) Samantha looked out the window, saw the great Dragon, and tentatively opened the front door. There stood a man who was dressed in heavier clothes than the light snow ought to have needed. "Y-you... Is that a Dragon?!" she stuttered, barely able to string two words together coherantly.
She scarcely believed his words about his planet, Pern, and the other things he'd told her at the time, until she met his huge Dragon. Although it was hard to believe, she didn't want her parents to do anything about her firelizard, and decided that she should at least go with him, to Pern. And of course, the idea of bonding to one of the great creatures stirred in her mind a hope and a once-ignored fantasy.
She wrote a note to her parents which they would never believe in, packed a travel bag, and was settled onto the back of the Pernese Dragon.
Two months later, Samantha impressed, at the hatchign of a minor Gold's clutch, at Benden Weyr. Having had a vey short time to get used to Weyrlife, many, including Sam, were surprised when she imrpessed to Green Rianth. Rianth seemed like a simple, childish dragonet, immature compared to the others- but that was all they suspected.
The pair started Weyrling training immediately, but by the first year, signs of a problem with the Green began to show. She wasn't just slow or childish- her thoguht-speech was hard to understand, and they nearly crashed when Rianth misunderstood...somehow...very simple directions in an early flight. In their second year, With Samantha 16, Rianth slipped, by accident, Between when drilling in recognition points- it was then that Samantha realized that there was something really wrong with her Green. Rianth's mindvoice had not changed at all, either, and her level of intelligence was inferior to that of a gold wher, at least it seemed. Healers told her that her dragon had a form of Mental retardation, but when Benden sent for an Earth Doctor from Rocky weyr to come look at Rianth, they found that the Green dragon actually has a medium-degree Down Syndrome, which limited cognition and capabilities. Although it was dangerous to move Sam's beloved Green Between to Earth, it was more dangerous for her to stay on Pern, and so with three experienced, senior Bronze dragonrider pairs - two leading, one following behind Between- they guided Rianth from Pern to the Thread-free Earth. And though Sam is happy to be back on Earth, she now has to deal with not just the knowledge her dragon has down syndrome, but with helping both herself and Rianth cope with the defect. She impressed to Green flitter Miriam, named for her long-loved dog Miriam, a week before they left Pern for Earth. Rocky weyr was alright, but Samantha wasn't sure she liked beign so close to home, and yet unable to go home. The lockdown made her uncomfortable as well, she was sure something would happen soon.

The Green had chosen her mate, and Sam had no true problem with the after effects of the matingflight,, though how this was a 'normal' occurance was beyond her! And with her fears of Rianth's death during her Mating Flight now proven baseless, Sam was a little more relaxed. But Rianth had done several other things that bothered her. The Green had leaped int othe sky without her Rider not once but twice- and not for her mating flight or any seen disasters. She flew around the Weyr before landing in the weyrbowl once more, completely scarign the 18 and a half yyear old Samantha. But she couldn't be angry with her Green, who only said,
I leaped into sky. Sky is pretty. I have wings- why no fly?" In her sweet and adorable voice.
Now 18, Samantha found out about Isle weyr being opened, and decided that moving there, though difficult, might not be a bad thing. The only difficulty was moving the Green.
After telling the weyrwoman and 'leader about her situation, she managed to find some volunteers to help her Green go Between to the new Weyr. Although Sammy and Rianth were both equally nervous, the trip went alright, with only a little slip as they landed at the Isle Weyr. Now Sammy and Rianth have begun to get comfortable in their new weyr.

Dragon Defect/Injury: Down Syndrome-- Medium to near-severe degree of this disease---> cannot fly for long periods of time or to exact locations. is slow at following directions and commands. does more harm than good, but likes to try and help others. She will not be able to go Between unassisted.
Other: she has not had her second mating flight as of yet because of her mental and physical immaturity. It is possible she would be able to clutch in her second mating flight because she will not have had any Firestone, unlike during her first.
