IC Date: July 28th, 2013 IC Time: Noon [/u][/center] Nakia was in the Infirmary, ready for an ultrasound that would tell her what in the hell was going on. She was as big as a whale! And she was beginning to think she was carrying more than one child in there. She had invited L'iyr and S'tor to this as well. They should know what was going on. And since one of them was the father, surely they would like to know. Perhaps she would even be able to find out the gender of the baby. This time around she was hopeing for a girl. She already had a boy, but now she wanted to see how gorgeous a girl would be. Especially considering how handsome a boy Naktor was. And he was only a year old!

S'tor was not sure what he hoped. If it was his, he thought he would rather have a daughter this time. Naktor was strong and healthy, as good a son as any man could ask for. Unlike those who worried that the world was ending, S'tor was absolutely secure in his belief that things would work out.
Or, perhaps, too bullheaded to worry about it. He worried about nothing other than Naktor and what was going on with Nakia now. He wasn't even really jealous of L'iyr.
It wasn't as if he expected to be monogamous with Nakia even if they were weyrmated, and they weren't. True, Ryath hadn't flown anyone else and he hadn't really had other liaisons, but it wasn't out of fidelity so much as...he hadn't really wanted to bother with it. Or that was how he saw it, anyway.

L'iyr.... simply wanted to be elsewhere. These Earth healer-facilities had some certain smell about them that set him on edge, and even in the areas that didn't smell of astringent and blood, there was something about them that had him gritting his teeth and hissing any time someone asked him if he needed directions.
By the time he finally made it to the room Nakia was in, he looked like a pissy wet cat, and was growling fit to rival one. Of course, he stopped at the sight of Nakia, biting back a hiss of... well. Something. But he seemed to behave a bit better around her- whether because he was trying to impress her or because he just genuinely didn't want to upset her, it wasn't clear.
S'tor however, still got the barest of ill-concealed sneers, and L'iyr had to remind himself that he didn;t actually hate the man- it was more the principle of the matter. As for the whole ultra-sound or whatever it was... he just wanted answers.

The doctor came in at that moment, nodding in recognition to the three of them. He was surprised at how large Nakia had been growing recently. The doctor had his suspiscions that she was carrying more than one fetus. Possibly more than two...
"How have you been feeling, Nakia?" He asked, taking a seat next to the exam table.
"I feel like a damn whale. Can we hurry this along?" She growled. She was in as much a good mood as L'iyr apparently.
The doctor nodded, understanding why Nakia would be in a hurry. It couldn't be comfortable laying on her back, not with all that pressure there. So, quickly as he could, he spread the ultrasound gel. He was glad that the nurses had gotten everything ready ahead of time.
Nakia sighed in exasperation. She wanted this to hurry up and be over with. It was highly uncomfortable to be laying like this, and sh wondered why. It hadn't felt like this when she was pregnant with Naktor...
"As you know, Nakia, that you will have to have many more ultrasounds this time around." The doctor said. He knew Nakia wanted to have the procedure to find out the paternity of the child before it being born.
She nodded in irritation. "Can you just tell me about the baby, already?" She growled.
The doctor nodded, sighing, and turned his attention to the ultrasound screen. He moved the wand a bit, but couldn't believe what he saw. He blinkd, moved it about once more, then shook his head. He turned to Nakia. "Do you see this?" He asked, gesturing towards the ultrasound.
Nakia shook her head. "No. It's all shapeless to me." She said. Now she wondered what it was he saw...

S'tor peered at the ultrasound, but immediately started to worry. Was something wrong with the kid? Even if it was L'iyr's, he didn't want anything to be wrong with it.
A deformed child was a burden on the Weyr and might die, or never be anything more than a drudge. He had no doubt that Earth's better medicine could fix at least some problems, but not all of them. He didn't want to see any child doomed to being a drudge.
The child of two riders should have his chance to fly. Or even, he had started to accept, her. The world wasn't ending because of all of the female riders.
Well.
He didn't think it was, anyway.

L'iyr let the ghost of a smirk cross his face at Nakia's grumpiness- he knew there'd been a reason he liked her. The doctor got a rather arrogant look, like a cat at the vets, and he just waited for there to be something he knew about to happen.
So he looked like the same cat who's just fallen in a lake when the doctor was vague. "Can you possibly explain what we're supposed to be seeing here?" He hissed. "For all I know she's birthing a nest of tunnelsnakes."
((Yep.))

The doctor looked over at L'iyr once. Then chose to ignore him. He had heard about the young man, heard he had good qualities hidden under the surly, sarcastic exterior.
He turned back to the ultrasound, circling five small and moving objects. Then he gestured to Nakia to look at what he had circled. "Five heartbeats." He told her.
Nakia looked at the image, noticing the five little pinpricks of brighter light. Now that the doctor had mentioned it, she remembered seeing something similiar with Naktor's first ultrasound. But she hadn't gotten the full meaning of just what five heartbeats meant. She looked at the doctor, a brow arched.
"Can you stop with the puzzle treatment. What is going on in there?" She all but growled.
The doctor sighed. He pointed to each individual heartbeat. "There are five heartbeats. Meaning there are five infants within your womb. Meaning, Nakia, that you are going to have quintuplets." He said, trying to simplify it as much as possible.
He turned to S'tor and L'iyr, nodding once to them. "And I wish whichever of you is the father the best of luck." With that, the doctor turned and left the room.

"Quintuplets!" S'tor could not help but exclaim.
Five.
He'd heard of that many, but it was also rare for them all to survive, and...oh shards. He couldn't lose Nakia.
He couldn't. All he could do was pray that Earth science knew something to do to make the chances better.
Five.
That wasn't twins. It was a litter. And human females weren't meant to have litters. They'd be small, they'd likely be premature.
And it didn't matter in that moment which one of them was the father. All that mattered was Nakia...and somehow making sure she was okay. Heck. Maybe she should...but it was already close to too late to abort through Betweening.
All he could do was stand there, those three words all that came from him. This was...terrible.

Five.
That was about where L'ir's brain stopped. He stood there, frozen, and just...stared. For once in his life, he appeared to be...absolutely dumbfounded.
For a moment he stared at S'tor, too... but... he watched Nakia go, a worried look crossing his face. Then he faced the doctor. "Can that even be healthy...?"
