IC Date: December 9th, 2012 IC Time: Early Morning [/b][/u] Nakia was woken up early in the morning by Isath, who had gotten a message from Surth that Nakia was going to shadow Faizah that day. As the Junior Weyrwoman. The only reason she was there was because she had been assured that S'tor had been summoned as well. She sat at one of the tables in the Main Hall, sipping some coffee. There was a bagel sitting in front of her, but so far Nakia wasn't awake enough to eat it. Hell, she was hardly awake enough to be drinking coffee, but that's what it was for. Nakia was grumpy, to say the least. She was not a morning person, and Faizah knew that. Yet here she was, awake before even six in the morning. It was absolutely ridiculous! She should be in bed, sleeping soundly, and getting up much later in the day...

The brownrider...well. Certain things had not yet occurred to S'tor. With Lordly perched on his shoulder, he made his way to the main hall.
It was too early. "Grah. What did I do to deserve this treatment?" he asked Nakia. "For that matter, what did *you* do to deserve it?"
He couldn't think of anything either of them had done to warrant being woken up before dawn. Faizah was just... "Oh. wait. I know. Faizah's getting revenge for all the times Naktor's woken her up in the middle of the night."
That had to be it. Babies DID that, after all.

Nakia laughed slightly, then shook her head. "As far as I know, my sister doesn't sleep." She said incredulously.
She waved at the coffee pots, one that held coffee and one that held klah. "I'm assuming Faizah made them for us. But there is coffee and klah, which ever you prefer. And I suggest a cup or two. Today might very well be a long day..." She muttered grumpily.
She smiled at S'tor though. Ever since Isath's flight, they hadn't seen much of each other. And while she wouldn't admit it outloud, she had missed the man. She was afraid she was becoming attached to him, which she always tried to avoid. Yet at the same time, she thought she could see S'tor's feeling becoming similiar as her feelings.
Even if he didn't show it...

Showing it? That was not likely to happen. S'tor gratefully poured himself a cup of klah, sinking into a chair next to Nakia.
"Again, what did we do to deserve it...and I don't think Weyrwomen ever sleep. I used to think they lost the ability on Impressing golds, but Surth..."
...was emphatically not gold. Or even female. That still felt wrong to him. True, the woman was very competent, and the Earth people were weird. They did not grasp that a gold dragon only chose a woman who was capable...the soldiers all thought people should prove their merit regardless of dragon color. Which was how Isle Weyr somehow had a greenrider leading it.
And from what little he had heard, that had proved as bad an idea as it seemed.

Nakia nodded. "Faizah didn't sleep even before she Impressed Surth." She said.
Nakia leaned over, leaning against S'tor, and laid her head on his shoulder. She sighed, closing her eyes slightly. She was tired, more tired than she ever remembered being. And the coffee still hadn't kicked in yet. Which was annoying her slightly.
So she turned the conversation to something else. "Have you seen Naktor lately? He's getting big." She muttered sleepily.

"He's definitely growing." S'tor sipped at his klah...and unlike Nakia, it was actually having an effect on him.
"They do that, though, I'm told, and I doubt he'll be small." S'tor was not a particularly small man and neither was anyone else in his family.
Hopefully, Naktor's dragon wouldn't be too small either...although there was no dishonor to being a greenrider, S'tor could not help but want better for his son. Maybe even a bronze. That, though, was natural fatherly pride. ALL riders wanted their sons to ride bronze.

Nakia smiled slightly. She was feeling a little more awake. She sipped at the coffee for another few moments. Then she turned to S'tor.
"He looks like he's going to take mostly after you. He looks almost identical to you already." She said with a smile.
She fell silent for a moment, sipping her coffee while he sipped his klah. She was beginning to wonder how he felt about now being the Junior Weyrleader. It wasn't tradition, but it was a good oppurtunity for him... She decided she would be better off asking.
"So, how are you enjoying being the Junior Weyrleader?"
((When are you going to post Loren's baby? She was due yesterday according to the calender.))

(( Hrm. I would say when I'm not sleep deprived and exhausted, but gods only know when THAT will be ))
S'tor let out a breath. "Part of me insists I have no right to claim the title...but then, brownriders have been junior weyrleader before."
Not generally senior...but that situation *here* was strange. Surth was a male white, in no position to choose a Weyrleader. "Everything here continues to confuse me. I blame the Earthers..."
He had momentarily forgotten that Nakia herself was, of course, from Earth, not Pern. But that only made life easier for her, he had come to realize.

Nakia nodded in understanding. She had begun to understand that S'tor's views weren't going to change. And this gave her a chance to understand the difference in lifestyle from Pern to Earth. It was interesting to her.
She picked up part of her bagel, starting to eat it lightly. It was barely warm now, but it still tasted good. She offered S'tor the other part of the bagel. "Are you hungry?" She asked as she pushed the small plate towards him.

"You know...I actually rather am." He took the offered bagel. Now that was an Earth invention he could appreciate.
And they did have such a wonderful variety of cheeses, too, much more than Pern. And, well...he was stuck here forever. He might as well appreciate the perks, even if they were mostly food-related. He supposed it had something to do with Earth never having had to suffer through Fall. They had so much Pern didn't.
Chocolate, for example.

Nakia smiled at him. She was feeling a lot better now that the coffee had kicked in. And that S'tor was there. She wouldn't deny that his company made her smile. And he was the father of her son, so it wasn't like he was going anywhere.
Not that there were many places for him to go. He couldn't go back to Pern, with Ryath's "defect". There was Isle, but that was about it. And she couldn't see him going to Isle. A whiterider as a Weyrwoman was a little more acceptable than a greenrider as Weyrwoman. At least to Nakia...

Good job S'tor couldn't read her mind. From what he'd heard of Aurora, she really was a lousy Weyrwoman. He glanced towards the door...how like Faizah, to get them up this early when she herself had not shown yet, although he was sure she would. Or, most likely, her dragon had had some demand. The dragons, even for leaders, came first.
Junior Weyrleader. Of course, it didn't mean that much here. They didn't really have the dragons organized into wings, so there was no wing for him to lead. One of these days they really should come up with something more useful for the Earth Weyrs to *do*.
"So...when do you think she'll show up?"

Nakia blinked owlishly for a moment. "Somehow, I think she will be arriving soon. You can't hear Naktor crying?" She asked S'tor with a smirk.
There was indeed the faint sound of the said infant crying. Nakia finished her coffee, and her bagel, and stood up. She headed to the entrance of the dining hall, peeking out to see if Faizah was coming. She thought she saw a flash of red hair, but she couldn't be sure.
"I still want to know why we're awake so early." She grumbled.

"Like I said, I'm trying to think of something either of us did to deserve this, but I can only thing that Faizah's getting no sleep and thus, why should we?"
He COULD hear the boy now...that was the problem with babies. It was much easier to deal with children once they had a few words. "You know, the nice thing about baby dragons. They can talk right away."
He remembered Ryath as a clumsy hatchling, with distinct fondness. That, of course, was before he knew anything was wrong with his dragon. Anything...well. There was nothing to be done about it, although he wondered how they would have handled it had they not had another world to send him to...

Faizah walked into the room at that moment. She looked at S'tor and gave him a small smile. "I'm getting quite enough sleep, thank you. And as much fun as it would be to deny you sleep, I'm not the vengeful type." She answered to him.
Nakia smirked slightly, covering her smile with a hand. She hadn't known her sister to do something this brash. But she couldn't deny that it was interesting.

S'tor snorted. "Right. With a baby around. I didn't think getting enough sleep was possible until they hit a turn and a half or so."
He couldn't help it...on the one hand, she was the Weyrwoman. On the other hand, she had his kid...and that kind of made things different between them. Or at least he thought so. It was, in any case, hard to cultivate the distance he had once kept from her. And he really couldn't believe she could possibly be getting enough sleep.

Faizah shrugged. "You learn to sleep while the baby is asleep. Learned that trick when Nakia was a toddler." She explained.
She went over and poured herself a cup of coffee, adding an insane amount of sugar and creamer to it. Naktor had stopped his fussing, instead attempting to focus on his surroudings. Nakia crept over and kneeled down to watch him, a small smile on her face.

S'tor also smiled at the boy. "He's growing quickly," he noted, in tones entirely complimentary towards Faizah as caregiver. She was doing a very good job given her other duties and the fact that she was not the child's mother.
"And I don't want to think of Nakia being a toddler, thank you." He actually grinned at Nakia at that. He'd forgotten, of course, how much older than both of them Faizah actually was...quite a big gap between the sisters.

Faizah shrugged at S'tor, sipping her coffee slowly. It was hot, and she was not willing to burn her tongue. She wasn't hungry, so she didn't grab anything to eat. Instead, she watched Nakia with Naktor. And the complimentary tones from S'tor weren't unnoticed, at all. Faizah smirked to herself from that.
Nakia laughed slightly. She didn't remember much about her toddler years. But she did remember being very attached to Faizah as a kid. Until she decided to rebel. Then her and Faizah's relationship had been strained, and it had never recovered.
She pushed those thoughts aside. She focused on Naktor, smiling goofily down at him. He smiled and giggled up at her. He was the picture of a happy baby.

S'tor watched this with a growing smile. Whatever Faizah had got them up early for, for right now the brownrider was taking the opportunity to relax with his...
...family. Now that was not a word he had used in a long time. He was weyrbred to the bone, creche raised and with parents as, well, people who were there...but not close. He had always assumed that his relationship with Naktor would be similar, distant affection and pride, but nothing more. Seeing the boy now, though, he felt much more warmth than he had predicted or thought he would allow himself. He reached a hand out to him, wiggling his fingers...and then glanced around to make sure nobody else had seen. Oops.

Faizah and Nakia shared a small look when S'tor reached down and played with Naktor. They didn't say anything, just watched. And their smiles grew bigger when little Naktor reached a hand up, reaching for his father's fingers.
Nakia took a small step back, allowing S'tor and Naktor to bond a bit. Faizah just watched in silence. She enjoyed seeing the three of them bonding.

S'tor grinned. "Go ahead, son, show me your grip."
He could deal with Nakia and Faizah seeing him like this. Anyone else? That would be a problem...he would never recover from the damage to his tough guy reputation that would ensue.
Nobody would ever respect him again as a rider, let alone junior Weyrleader. But there was nobody else there and S'tor resolved, for now, not to worry about anything except the baby. Naktor was just as important to him as this strange, messed up Weyr. Or, perhaps, more so...

Naktor giggled as he reached up and took his father's finger into his hand. Faizah and Nakia grinned again, Nakia stepping up at little closer to be part of the moment. Faizah simply continued to sip her coffee.
Naktor held onto S'tor's finger, pulling it one moment and then shaking it the next. It was really a heart warming and entertaining sight. Nakia laughed slightly as she watched, a smile obvious on her face. She was enjoying this time with her son and his father.

S'tor laughed. "Good strong grip...you'll need that."
When his son rode a dragon, he was thinking, of course...and with two rider parents his chances of Impressing were good. Perhaps S'tor should encourage him to go to Pern, where he could fight Thread, but as he and Ryath were not allowed to return...
It would be up to the boy, like any other transfer. That was the way things should be, but for now, he intended to enjoy the child's company. "You'll be more fun in a few Turns, though." Children were much more fun once they were talking and mobile.

Faizah laughed slightly at S'tor's comment. "And likely getting into everything." She said with a small smile.
Nakia smiled as well. She turned to Faizah, a smirk on her face and her eyes gleaming. "Oh, but I bet you can handle anything Naktor can throw at you." She said almost daringly.
Naktor simply giggled once more. He still had a grip on S'tor's finger, occasionally waving it around. His eyes, somewhat unfocused, were watching everyone. He seemed curious with what was going on around him.
