IC Date: Week of May 19th, 2012 IC Time: Noon [/u][/center] ((I know this is early, but I won't be able to post on Saturday. So I'm posting it now.)) Nakia sat in the common room, a scowl on her pretty face. She hadn't been feeling her best lately, tired mostly, and she had finally gone to the Infirmary. What they had told her had been most unwanted news. Since she had left she had written a note to both S'tor and L'iyr. She had then sent Missy and Chubba with the notes. What had the notes said, you wonder? Simply that Nakia wanted both of them to meet her in the common room. And that she had some news for them. They might find it pleasant news, they may not. Nakia didn't really care. She had also asked to speak to Faizah later that night, having Isath talk to Surth about it. According to the dragons, Faizah had agreed to meet her. Nakia wondered if Surth had even told her sister the circumstances of the sudden talk. Not that it much mattered to her. There wasn't much that did matter to Nakia at that moment. She was in a foul mood, and S'tor and L'iyr had better step lightly. Else they may find themselves on the wrong side of her temper.

At this point, S'tor knew enough of Nakia's moods to almost be able to feel the foulness of *this* mood rolling off her. And he knew it wasn't her dragon's fault.
It was far too early for the green-gold to be proddy, after all. S'tor shook his head. His bronze firelizard rode, for once, on his shoulder, perhaps sensing that the brownrider could use some company as they strode into the common room.
Yup. She was in a bad mood. Lordly could sense it too, and slightly tightened his tail-grip around S'tor's throat. "Enough, Lordly, I won't make a very good perch if I collapse because I can't breathe." Then a beat later. "Nakia, what's wrong?"
Because something was, so clearly. He knew better than to offer her any kind of physical comfort when she was in this mood, unless she initiated it.

L'iyr almost ignored the note entirely, and was very deeply debating the trouble he'd get in for locking that flit in a closet for a week, but there was something that caught his attention.
The name on the note.
Oh. well then.
L'iyr sighed, swept out of his share of the weyr- which had A'gar yelling after him but he ignored the blonde (as usual). Nakia needed him...? What in the world for...? He'd been relatively scarce since...well. But that hadn't been unwanted, he was sure of that. So why the sudden summons...?
Still. He knew enough about women (in general) to know it wouldn't be wise to ignore her. (Also he really did like her enough to not be a complete jackass to her.) He leaned against the doorframe to the common room, watching S'tor with an ill-concealed sneer that he very wisely wiped off his face when he spotted Nakia- and her less-than-pleased expression.
"Nakia." He said, calmly. "Is everything alright...?"

Nakia, still sitting there with her arms crossed, turned her head slightly when the two men appeared. Her blue-green eyes were blazing as she glared at them. Then she shook her head slightly, barely noticeable, before speaking.
"No. Everything is not alright." She said softly.
Her soft voice alone should have put the two of them on edge. It wasn't often that Nakia spoke softly. And she was certainly in a dangerous mood to begin with. The general lack of firelizards around her was testimony enough to that.
Nakia reached over, lifting an object from the side table next to her. She tossed it at the two of them, not really caring if one of them caught it or not. The pregnancy test, with its evil pink plus, would tell them all they needed to know about her foul mood.

S'tor did indeed catch the object...and sighed inwardly.
Nakia was breeding...again. And S'tor glanced at the other man in the room. Clearly, she didn't know which of them was the father, a not uncommon problem at a Weyr, where a woman could take whatever man she wished and there were flights to consider too. As much as he would like it if Nakia was loyal to him, he would not ask it of her.
It might be his. It might be L'iyr's. He opened his mouth. He could think of something to suggest to Nakia, something so far away from Pernese tradition that she would likely be amazed to hear it pass the hidebound brownrider's lips. At the same time...it *was* a solution. He closed his mouth. Then opened it again, and finally murmured, "Birth control." It wouldn't help with this pregnancy, although she had a perfect right to abort.
But if she didn't want to keep going through this, the little pills the Terran doctors gave to women who didn't want children...or who couldn't risk pregnancy...WERE the best solution. Talking about it...heck, thinking about it...made him uncomfortable. But he had at least one son...possibly more than one, although they might never know, and he knew he couldn't put forward a case for it being his. His eyes drifted to his...rival. Yes, rival. He could lose Nakia forever to this man, he feared, but he knew jealousy did not befit a dragonrider.
For all that S'tor thought women had their place, women of the Weyr had always had this freedom...to lie with whichever men they chose, or not, and to bear as many or as few children as they wished.

L'iyr seemed confused. "It would certainly seem not..." He muttered, mostly to himself, and he made no move to catch the object she tossed at them. But he caught sight of it, and of S'tor's face... that was not the sort of face which he liked, either.
He knew well enough the apparent relations between Nakia and S'tor, not the whole story, but enough that could be gleaned from gossip and well, just watching them. (Though he really hadn't heard much, it was apparent it was some deep level of complicated...)
At the same time... that object. "You're with child." L'iyr stated bluntly. (How did he know? Google. No, not how he knew Nakia was pregnant, but he'd been reading up on Earth and this new world since his arrival. Smartphones were amazing things, and he'd acquired one from a candidate by way of bribery. The guess regarding Nakia was just assumption based on her mood and S'tor's face.)
The other rider's words had him raising an eyebrow. "Don;t you think it;s rather late for that now?" He hissed, before gaining control over his tongue once again... and staring at S'tor. "And stop looking at me like that. It could just as easily be yours. I assume..." He glanced once more back at Nakia. "That is why we are here, is it not? Because one of us..." He suddenly couldn't quite finish the sentence, as it seemed to hit him all at once. "Oh. Oh."

Nakia glared at the two of them, especially after their comment of birth control. She had been on those little pills, and she had most assuredly not forgotten to take them. But, like their mother, Nakia was apparently too fertile. Like their mother, birth control wasn't going to keep Nakia from getting pregnant.
She shook her head, turning away from S'tor. "I was on birth control. Started right after Naktor was born." She answered. The she gestured at the positive pregnancy test. "Obviously, they didn't work." She all but growled.
She turned away from the men, thinking for a moment. They were here because she didn't know which of them had fathered the child she was currently pregnant with. It could be either of theirs, although she almost wished it was S'tor's. She shook her head slightly.
"As to why you're here, that's obvious. I don't know which of you the father is. But I can assure you that we will find out soon after its born." She said.
Born. Nakia had put a lot of thought into whether or not she was going to keep this one. And while her last pregnancy had been a bother, it hadn't been bad. Not to mention, she had to admit that she had a soft spot for Naktor, even though Faizah was raising him. She wasn't doing a bad job of it either. So, after much contemplating, Nakia had decided that she was going to keep it.
Which was why she had to speak to Faizah later. Perhaps her eldest sister would be willing to raise another child. Faizah seemed to love children. And if not Faizah, then certainly Lakeen. Lakeen was as much a baby lover as Faizah. Again Nakia shook her head. She was getting ahead of herself...

S'tor relaxed a little. "Well...oh wait. The Earth people have ways to find out, don't they." A 'paternity test'. Something he didn't understand.
Something that would resolve the dilemma so common in the Weyr. As hidebound as he was, he did wonder if that could be somehow exported to Pern. Of course, some women were so bed happy they'd have to test half the men around...but that was relatively rare. Usually there was a shortlist, two or three possibles.
And sometimes you could tell pretty soon after the kid was born anyway...you could tell from coloring and the like. He tried to decide how much he cared. He knew Naktor was his. This child...
He did care, he realized, but only inasmuch as a man always wanted children. If it wasn't his, he wouldn't be angry. Especially not with the kid. But they would know...which was strange, in a way, to him.

L'iyr rubbed his forehead and sighed. "No, really?" He hissed, at Nakia's comment on the inexplicable failure of her birth control. He wondered if maybe he shouldn't have been a little more careful himself, but then again, pride bfore the fall and what not, if that's how that funny earth quote went. Or was it with great power came responsibility...? No, that didn't sound right either... ugh.
"Children." He breathed, mostly to himself. What would he do if it WAS his? He'd sort of always assumed eventually he'd end up with a child or two, mostly because what were his other choices? He'd find a wife, have an heir or something, keep helping his brother as Adviser to the Lord Holder... then again, Einherjath had ruined all that quite nicely, and tied him down with responsibilities and a big idiot blonde.
And now Nakia.
L'iyr eyed S'tor carefully, and wondered what HE was thinking. Funny, how his default always seemed to be avoiding whatever was actually what was on his own mind and getting into everyone else's. So he didn;t dwell on what he'd do if Nakia WAS having his child, and instead wondered what S'tor would do, what Nakia was thinking, and... something in the back of his mind did something strange, and he was suddenly aware of his dragon's presence in his head.
...
...
Oh NO. L'iyr thought at his dragon. Don't you DARE tell HIM about this. NO. Not until we know. You won't breathe a WORD! L'iyr shook his head, still not trusting his dragon to keep his secrets for him. "How long, Nakia? Until you can know...?"

Nakia paused, not really sure how long. She didn't even know how far along she was! The only answer she could give to L'iyr would be the truth; that she didn't know.
Nakia was saved, however, as Faizah made her presense known. She was leaning against the doorframe, her arms crossed, and watching the three of them closely. "It would depend on how much Nakia wants to know." Faizah said softly.
The moment Nakia had said she wanted to talk to Faizah, the redhead wondered what it could be about. And then when Reyna had sent her an image of Nakia, S'tor and L'iyr in the common room, Faizah had suspected Nakia was pregnant again. Now, standing here for the past minute or two, her thoughts had been confirmed.
Nakia glared at Faizah, not liking her interruption. But Faizah's words had struck her curiousity, and now Nakia wanted to know what she meant. She cocked her head slightly to the side, but didn't say a word. She was still miffed about Faizah's interruption.
Faizah seemed to know what Nakia was thinking. She smirked slightly. "There is a procedure done by 22 weeks along, that can give us a paternity." She explained vaguely.
Nakia's eyes turned to slits. She knew that tactic of Faizah's. It meant there was possibly bad news with the good. And she wondered what Faizah was thinking...
